1761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Protein Folding Research based Proof of Work on: May 20, 2017, 12:06:45 PM
...This is not to say the work done by the miners is useless....
If you will not, then I will. The devs designed the difficulty in such a way that every block, POS or POW, punishes miners with a higher difficulty which never decreases until a POW block is found (but, as I said, does increase for every POS block found). Every block found in the last 92 hours 31 minutes has added to the POW difficulty while the POS difficulty is less than it was 100 blocks ago. The devs intended miners to be useless (despite what the OP says about 80:20).  Undecided

...Whether you are heavily-invested in ASIC equipment or still have GPUs and CPUs, you can participate.....
That you can "participate" with ASICs is true, just don't expect 100TH/s of ASICs to get paid enough to cover the electric costs of a CPU.   Roll Eyes
1762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Protein Folding Research based Proof of Work on: May 20, 2017, 07:44:22 AM

Setting aside the fact that you still can't grasp the difference between mining CureCoin(something that less than 20 people do) and folding.... Huh?

Reality check - there are HUNDREDS of folks doing folding on Team Curecoin, not "less than 20"
...
Seems you can't grasp the difference either. Undecided
There are less than 20 people than mine CureCoin on a regular weekly basis (even less that do it on a daily basis).
99.98% of the people that mine (which is everyone that mines except me and 1 other person) mine here: http://cure.cryptopools.com/index.php?page=statistics&action=pool

"Reality check" - Mining, which is a POW (and not POS) version of adding to the Curecoin blockchain, is not folding.

Edit: For clarity, I refer you to the damn OP and the 3 screens dedicated to explaining the difference...
...As someone with ASIC mining power, you can help increase the network security of Curecoin, earn good money from your work (through the proof-of-work block reward of Curecoin), and indirectly support folding efforts through network rebalancing ...

PREMIUM!

...If you break the hash PCB from own firmware version, we will be happy to repair your PCB for you!
...
Under warranty or at a premium?
Yeah, that was my point. Wink   Grin Thanks for the reply.

...[stuff]...
While I'm the 1st to condemn CC for lack of advancements (and their general disdain for ASICs), it seems that you have a misconception about the purpose of the coin and the logic behind it.

Setting aside the fact that you still can't grasp the difference between mining CureCoin(something that less than 20 people do) and folding....

CC and FLDC are meant to be an altruistic form of "reward" for altruistic folders. From the perspective of devs, the fact that such rewards can be monetized is an ancillary bonus. At the core of the Stanford project is the idea of shared, distributed computing power (and the fact that for every 10 participants involved, the workload is 1/10th that of processing on 1 computer). While I do agree (and have stated so on more than one occasion) that the devs should be actively seeking to monetize the coin to the extent of giving it buying power when it comes to the equipment used, I think you're way off base when it comes to intent and purpose.

...bitmain already gave us freq control....fan control is there as well you just have to compile the firmware yourself after altering the code to suite your needs...
That was the case long before you, or anyone else, even began to cry on here about them "taking it away". It's funny to watch you talk yourself in nonsensical circles.

Edit:
OK, so here's the real question:

Did this non-sourced, since you "cant read chinese[sic] so the name on the email is unknown", "engineer" tell you that Bitmain will break from it's long-standing policy and continue to uphold the warranty on any S9 that you "compile the firmware yourself after altering the code to suite[sic] your needs"?  Roll Eyes
1767  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 19, 2017, 05:19:58 PM
...remember how you claimed lowering the speeds wasnt possible because of the design of the boards on the auto tuned miners and asking is pointless?? well asking got the change....the change you claimed was impossible to achieve....it was somehow achievable....
Despite your continued unwillingness to type in coherent English sentences....

1) That's mischaracterization of what I said. While I'm certain that you can take excerpts out of context to support your position, my position is, was, and always will be that:
   a) The frequency is set in the PIC.
   b) When the whole board is "underclocked" to a given frequency, many boards contain chips that would actually be overclocked to a likely unsustainable frequency (i.e., a chip PICed at 415 set to 500).
   c) When a device has an inherently diminishing ROI (which is compounded daily by increase in network size and bi-weekly by diff increase), manually setting that device to intentionally further reduce ROI is counterproductive.
2) I'll believe that Bitmain will scrap a great many hours of writing code which physically protects the equipment that they sell (and provide warranty support for such unprotected devices), simply to pacify a handful of hobbyist consumers, when I see it.

Edit:
3) Bitcoin is at 4.24x since Jun '16:
    a) If you haven't been in at least that long, then you lack the experience to validate your belief system.
    b) If you have been in at least that long and you're not at a point where your ROI* is greater than 1.4 (theoretical should be ~1.7-1.85), then you lack the business acumen to validate your belief system.
    c) There is an almost 100% certainty that anyone that is disbelieving of 1a falls into the "not" portion of 3b.  Wink

...[incoherent babble]...
I find it interesting that your level of narcissism causes you to think that anything I type is towards you on a personal level. I also find it interesting that you find an open discussion, about the ROI (or lack thereof) of equipment, to be something akin to trolling.

Should there come a day where you are willing/able to type in coherent English sentences, I invite you to attempt to get back on topic and explain how an average hobbyist might have a better understanding of the thermodynamics of a piece of computer equipment than the manufacturer of that piece of computer equipment...
1769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CRW] CROWN (SHA256) | Experimental Commodity | Trons | Merge Mining on: May 19, 2017, 03:33:18 PM
The main issue is spotlight/attention. For every ICO there's probably 100 IPOs (99% of which will fail), and every ICO fail will get 100 times more attention than the combined attention of 100 IPO fails. Mainstream wants to see cryptos fail as a whole, so every "fail" or "setback" will be magnified.  Cry

... Could just be the friday feeling but still would be a nice surprise when I get home from work.
One of my VMs has a script that scrapes stats every 60 seconds and will play the "Hey! Listen!" from Zelda (at full volume) when Diff resets.  Grin Tongue

...i[sic] agree most dont[sic] like getting no answer or one they didnt[sic] expect but its your choice lol. i[sic] figured an adult would be more open about things considering me knowing your age wouldnt[sic] hurt you but again its your choice...
Since you bring up how one should act/type in a forum, I have to say that I figure an adult would have learned how to use the shift, " ' ", and " , " keys.  Tongue
Beyond that, if you could explain how my age is relevant to a discussion about hardware (and most specifically the ROI it does/doesn't provide under given conditions), I might be inclined to give an answer which is in line with that which you seek.

I like when donkeys feel the need to announce that they are "ignoring" me, the irony makes me giggle.  Grin Cool
1774  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BETA] ckpool.org 0.5% fee SPLNS segwit mining pool on: May 19, 2017, 12:55:20 AM
Looks like the pool hashrate is dropping, likely due to the BTC price going up...
I'm not sure how one relates to the other.  Huh

Edit: of note, we're ~12 hrs into my "off" day Wink

I very much doubt any of the core devs would take any interest in that idea I had years ago - it's a hard fork ... ....
I very much doubt that they would be interested in any idea that didn't include 100% support for segwit. I get the impression that even if a "perfect" solution presented itself, and that solution didn't include segwit, they still would not be interested in hearing the merits of such a solution. Undecided

...how old r u if u dont mind me asking?
I don't mind anyone asking me anything, the problem is some folks mind not getting the answers that they want.
1777  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 18, 2017, 07:14:46 PM
... retail is the ONLY option available to anyone. you do realize bitmain gives very little off and to get that fraction of a percent off you need to order hundreds of miners which is way beyond anything you or i can purchase....
It's so cute that you actually believe any of those thoughts.  Grin Kiss
1778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FoldingCoin - MINE FOR MEDICINE- PHASE 2.0 on: May 18, 2017, 11:48:13 AM
Its sad how this coin has turned into a pump and dump...
That is the entire purpose of this coin. The devs never had (nor never will have) any intention of having the coin have any purpose beyond being a "reward" for people that fold, they see any real-world value that the coin has as an unintended, incidental "bonus".
.... Until FLDC leaves counterparty the prospects of this coins future are grim at best.
They've stated countless times that FLDC will never leave Counterparty and will never be a stand-alone coin.
1779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 17, 2017, 01:24:59 PM
[blibiddyblablabla]......
Yes, I'm sure that, after ignoring hundreds of hobbyists' requests, Bitmain is going to rewrite the S9 firmware for someone who has so little pull that he still has to buy his L3+s retail and cry about the cost of a given batch.  Cheesy Roll Eyes
