This should be closed because the title is misleading. Make a note in the token issuance book if needed but "do not buy" thread does not do anything except to confuse people.

Pat take this stuff down. This stuff happens all the time. I feel bad it happened to you. You are a great asset to the NEM community, but there is no point to this and nothing should be halted.

You want to make sure nothing like this happens again?

Well, I would imagine it won't.

What other scams are out there? Countless!!

But we can't let the scammers stop the show. That is much more costly than 6 stakes!!!

I think you can't delete threads here but even if I could I wouldn't.
If we have learned anything from UPs mistake it's that we have to be transparent about stuff like this. That's exactly what I'm doing.
We could have kept this a secret. Noone would have known, Noone could have known.
The fact that we were open about this should actually build up trust instead of hurting it.
This won't stop anything. Don't be absurd Smiley It's a few stakes out of 3000 - worse things have happend.

And just ignore CfA. He's some moron desperate for attention. He's the worst kind of a btt user and the entire forum knows it.

Im talking about issuing tokens. You are right, it shouldn't be taken down. I shouldn't have said that. Leave it up, but let those who want their tokens get them is all i'm saying.

The plan is to resume issueing tokens as soon as we've worked out the detailes of how it'll work in the future to avoid such mistakes.

1784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DO NOT BUY NEMSTAKE FROM THESE ADDRESSES!!!! on: July 05, 2014, 01:49:47 PM

I do not really understand the point of this topic:
1. It for sure will not be read by everybody.
2. When I place a buy order, I do not know who will be the eventual seller.
It is sad that somebody did that, but I do not know what the community can do about it, except collect money to buy 6 stakes.

The point was to be transparent about it. Keeping mistakes secret has fucked us one time - won't happen again.

Wtf pet master are u stupid?

~CfA~

It is easy to say if you talk from above. Careless he may have been, but stupid is an insult.

I appreciate you stepping up but I wasn't careless either.
I care - a lot.

Just auction 6 less stakes. That way noone loses out. It was a clever scam Pat....you did well to notice it.

Actually I noticed it last night.. if you read a page back on the token request thread you'll see. I posted this and sent it to pat:

I just noticed the name "walkingstif" on the token issuance request spreadsheet at the bottom, but I have never requested a token? My name isn't even spelled correctly. Has to be a mistake, can you fix please.

Update:
It looks like somebody created the account "walkingstif" and claimed a stake with the imposter account?

That's fortunate that you noticed the issue. The scam could go on longer otherwise. I suggest to have more than one pair of eyes to look after the stakeholder list. Pat will be the one who can modify the sheet but it will be a good idea to have a couple of other people to watch the sheet consistently for something funny.

Such a system is being worked out right now.
That's why we are temp issueing no stakes. We want to make sure something like this can not happen again.
NEM people have made mistakes in the past but one thing you can not say about us is that we do not take consequences Smiley

You are the reason I took a closer look at all the assets I've issued.

Thanks to you sir Smiley !

Of course the dev team will have to eat the cost some way or another. Meanwhile there looks to be some major dumping going on in the AE, several stakes sold pushing the price down to 25k nxt.

Not the dev team but me. I don't know how but it will be compensated one way or another. No stakeholder or NEM itself will loose anything.

I am sorry to hear about the scam. You should get a big compensation package for all the works. What happened ?

UPDATE: NXT-5SPQ-5AVB-PV6D-F6EJL

Don't by from there.

It is unfortunately impossible given that the price matching is automatic. Unless the whole buy-order book is cleaned out, the scammer can still sell down. These stakes are considered gone since the scammers are watching this thread and it is certain that they are going to sell down instead of waiting for a conversion.

You're right of course.
Didn't realize that it's an automated process.

The purpose was more about being transparent about it.

I think what lordoliver is saying is that you should redeem them. in your other statement you alluded that they couldn't be redeemed.

That wasn't my intention.

Of course they'll be redeemed.
1795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DO NOT BUY NEMSTAKE FROM THESE ADDRESSES!!!! on: July 04, 2014, 01:56:05 PM
surely noone, that bought the scammed stakes should take responsibility for you not paying attention...

Did i say they should ?
Did i even suggest anything like that ?
1796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DO NOT BUY NEMSTAKE FROM THESE ADDRESSES!!!! on: July 04, 2014, 01:34:16 PM
DO NOT BUY NEMStake from the NXT AE.
Some ass has manges to scam assets out of me. Do not buy any more assets until I have assesed the sitution further.

NO STAKES ARE LOST !

Everyone on the list will get they're stakes and everyone who has bought a stake on the AE will (apart from the scammer obviously)

Following accounts have scammed assets:

NXT-XR2N-5SS3-X9BZ-H8BN8
NXT-8SCQ-9S3Q-JP2T-DM6Q5
NXT-8YZK-DV4T-4R3K-5BU5L
NXT-ZHUA-3R7B-G74V-AG5VV
NXT-29UX-LJCV-YAGJ-FZWV9
NXT-W7SY-5SMN-L7QE-E7CLA

So a total of 6 assets have been scammed out of me.
Since almost 600 were issued I think we can safely say worse things have happend.

It would appear as though the best thing to do, would be to go yourself and buy 6 NEMstakes and burn them. This would ensure that everything to continues to run smoothly.

They will go smoothly. Everyone that bought stakes on the AE and everyone on the stakehodlerlist will get their stakes. It's just those 6 stakes that are lost.

Unless noone buys them from him because we sure as hell won't let him redeem stakes from those addresses Smiley
1797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DO NOT BUY NEMSTAKE FROM THESE ADDRESSES!!!! on: July 04, 2014, 01:33:20 PM
How did he scam assets out of you?

He created accounts with names that were almost identical to names on the stakeholderlist.

So there would be dudexxx on the list and he would create an account dudexx.

I always check on the google spreadsheet with the search function if the PMs really came from stakeholders. If the search function finds the text you are looking for it marks the entire cell green not just the letters which is why i didn't notize the one missing character. Cell lit up green so I thought it was a match.

Of course all accounts were brand new but then so are many of our stakeholders so that didn't really ring any alarm bells.

Do we need nem.log.x files in order to properly run NEM? It is already 550MB. Can we delete them?

Yes, you can delete them.

OK. But there is a problem with these big log files. I can't leave my Android TV stick running NEM node for week or so, because my stick memory will be empty. Is there some tweak to prevent these log files?

Don't think there is right now but these sure won't be created in this manner in the final client.

what is a nemstake ?
serious question...

It's the representation of 1 stake of NEM which is traded on the NXT AE.
You can find out more about NEM in my sig Smiley
