1781  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin gift to wife on wedding. on: June 16, 2023, 12:35:21 PM
Although I still studied, I invested a small amount in Bitcoin. I will get married if I get a good job. Many people give many things to their wives as wedding gifts, I have a different plan. I am planning to gift bitcoin to my wife on her wedding day. Bitcoin is still illegal in my country so I invested with caution. On my wedding day I want to gift half of my investment to my wife.
Should I gift bitcoin to my wife? I want your advice
Giving your wife bitcoin for a wedding gift isn't a bad idea, for a gift is a gift as long as it's not harmful and has value but such value can only be well appreciated of a gifted by the receiver if he/she knows the value of what is being gifted. From all indication your wife has no crypto knowledge so it would be important and necessary you first of all school her about the uses and value of bitcoin and what makes bitcoin uniquely different from the normal fiat money she knows.

Now, going by the fact that bitcoin is restricted and banned in your country do you think it would be safe enough to have your wife know about your involvement with bitcoin being a banned currency in your country. Can she keep your secret intact from family and close friends? Think critically before getting excited by your decision.

Did you ever thoroughly, properly plan a way of storing your seed safely and backups for it?
  • If you're not storing your seed safely, there are so many possible ways things can go wrong. Are you storing your keys on a piece of paper? Ever thought the text may fade away? Ever thought what you'd do if a fire started in your house while you're away? What if your dog eats your paper? What if your little kid finds it and decides to rip it into multiple pieces or even throw it away without your knowledge? Think of all the possibilities and find a solution to cover most of them. The solution can be as simple as using some washers, a screw and a nut.
Storing your seed in a paper can be a costly risk to take, knowing how fragile paper could be wether laminated or not and apart from an accident of arson it's possible ink used could carefully fade away when expired. A secure way to store your seeds is with the use of metal storage which is almost indestructible and last for decades. https://jlopp.github.io/metal-bitcoin-storage-reviews/

Do you store the majority of your balance on a safely created, properly stored Bitcoin wallet that only YOU own (a seed generated by you)?
  • Never store your coins on a centralized exchange. Exchanges have been hacked before and you don't want to be a victim of it. Just.. keep your coins safe under your own custody. Never allow a stranger to take part in your wallet's security because you never know what could go wrong. Not your keys, not your coins. Never forget this.
One of the wrong ways to start on with bitcoin is having you coins stored in any centralized exchange as you can go to bed as a millionaire and wake up poor the next morning hearing the news that such exchange has been hacked or for any reason concerning your data's your account has been frozen as simple as that. Having you coins stored in a non-custodial wallet where you're completely in charge of your seeds with no proxy knowledge about it from any individual on earth is something everyone should take serious about.

Having a friend have knowledge about your wallet security could be dangerous. For a friend today can be an enemy tomorrow because the future is not known and personal interests may change with time. Having someone else have knowledge about your wallet security apart from just you is no different from storing your coins in a centralized exchange.
1783  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beware of Pig Butchering Scam! on: June 15, 2023, 07:49:44 PM
These Ponzi scheme tricks as exposed by the OP are not exactly new except for the word they have recently coined it into as "big butcher scam", nevertheless there may be a few persons out there that may not be aware of such scam tactics and how advanced they have now programmed it to easily deceive the gullible and scam them of their funds.

A similar scheme they now use is by sending either a text message or email with a link that has some cryptocurrency related data that claiming to hold good amount of crypto asset in them and you are expected to be guessing the password and username to have access ito those funds. And if you're stupid enough to use your actual password and username to try it thinking it may work, you are only giving them a leak to your security details through wish they would use to clear your account.

I don't know the kind of tech they use in doing that but it's like a kind of malware phishing through the link they send you they are able to see any keyword you key into those open spots. Let's be careful and take the security of our assets seriously than ever cause these scammers ain't resting at all.
1784  Other / Meta / Re: Offensive words on the forum on: June 15, 2023, 11:52:37 AM
It is plain to see you are a newbie no wonder you allow the manner of words or statements of members of the forum affects you this much. With time you will learn to ignore many more annoying words liken to this in the future and only focus on picking attention to constructive criticism and correspondents that you think are supportive and developmental to your knowledge here.

Those criticism are what could be described as necessary distractions in the forum and if you are able to rather decipher a positive meaning out of them rather than getting annoyed at them then you would be amazed at how improved and of  quality you have become. There's a popular saying which goes this way: "use the stones people throw at you to build a steps for yourself instead of throwing it back at them"
1785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ambivalent attitude to gambling on: June 15, 2023, 11:19:11 AM
.

Reason 1: Perception of risk
One of the main reasons is the perception of risk. Certain forms of gambling, such as sports betting and casino games, are perceived as high-risk activities that can lead to significant financial losses. On the other hand, lotteries are seen as a relatively low-risk option, perhaps due to the low ticket price and their legality at the government level.
I don't know about other areas but in my own country both sports betting, casino games and the lottery as all recognized by the government and operates legally. So if am to use my vicinity as a case to study to the issue of ambivalence attitude in gambling I'll say a great number of gamblers I have come in contact with around here have never taken part in lottery games, not ones in the entire time as as gamblers in sports bets and casino games.
So the crowd that are into these sports betting and casino games makes it obvious and easy for people to see the negative impact that comes with it whereas that of lotteries ain't noticeable cause the numbers involved are not significant and the negative impact which is same as those of casinos games and sports betting is overlooked. So in summary, the number of people involved in the latter and the former, hence the ambivalent attitude that be.

Quote

What do you think? Why is there such a different attitude to gambling products and will it ever change?
I think preference plays another important role here as to why people give different attitude to certain gambling product against the others whereas in a whole they're all still categorized as gambling activities.
1786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dad's retirement money is invested in Bitcoin! on: June 14, 2023, 10:46:20 PM
His first dream is to build a house with this retirement money. But right now in my country all the materials needed to build a house are very expensive so building a house right now can't be a good decision. And I don't feel safe keeping his pension money in the bank because earlier there was inflation in my country where some banks went bankrupt.
True, starching money in the bank for a long period is only a waste of asset and time as nothing profitable is attached at the end but if I should put myself In your old-boy should I would say you should let the old man breathe fresh air with his money by building for himself and family a place to call a home of his. There's no time the cost of things are going to get better or reduced not even building materials so people should always be ready to build the size of a house their money can afford for them, and I have the feeling that the old man's retirement benefit can afford him a good sizeable house  looking at his years of service. Don't delve into the risk of crypto investment with another person's money despite your relationship with the person always make sure to use your own money and an amount you can overlook just in case. By so doing you have to owe anybody any explanation at anytime.
Quote

So right now I am not able to give him any proper advice as a boy. But one thing I've been wondering for a few days is if I invest half of my father's retirement allowance in Bitcoin, am I doing something wrong?
I feel like if I invest half the amount in Bitcoin for a year after receiving his retirement allowance, I might be able to hand over more money to my dad at the end of the year.
Hope I get proper advice from you.
If it's your own money then you may not be doing wrong but since it's another person's money then you're doing wrong . There are things we're advised not to do as crypto investors and traders: never invest/trade on behalf of someone with their money; never trade/invest with amount beyond what you can absorb in the case of a loss.  Be mindful of the fact that market volatility may end up not working according to your plans for the end of the year.
1787  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Gambling is different from trading on: June 14, 2023, 09:49:31 PM
When it's said that somebody is gambling a thing or a matter, it literally mean he is doing it blindly without a clear vision or idea of what he's doing but trying on the basis of luck with the hope it would work out well. But that's not how trading is for a trader, a trader that's trading already mapped out his strategy and ways to navigate through in the market before placing a trade be it long or short trades. It's only novice traders that could liken trading to gamble as a result of them entering the market blindly without a background of trading experience or knowledge thinking that they can make profit through luck which is self deceiving.

Despite there are few things that both gambling and trading shares in common such as using an amount of money you are ready to lose, disciplining against addiction and so on, yet it doesn't make the two synonymous or interchangeable of the other.

The Market News alone can frustrate you in terms of decision making as a trader that if care isn't taking you might end up trading off your asset loosely, however in gambling the news doesn't have any impact on what the gambler decides about how he wants to gamble in games like roulette or spinning etc.
1788  Economy / Economics / Re: Is poverty a lack of money? on: June 14, 2023, 12:21:42 PM
I see poverty as the inability to provide what you need. So when people assume that poverty is when you don't have money I don't agree. Now what if you have all you need and you don't require money to buy anything, are you poor? Some people live in communities where everyone lives agrarian life. They have all they need because everything they need to survive is available. Food is on the farm, water available and everybody is happy. Although it was hard during the Covid-19 lockdown many people lived without money. I have also seen many people leaving cities and moving to rural areas to live a natural life.

In summary when you have everything you need to survive and you don't need money, are you poor?
According to William BrownWilliam Brown: Poverty is the state of being poor; that is, lacking the basic needs of life such as food, health, education, and shelter. https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/acref/9780199670840.001.0001/acref-9780199670840-e-1716

Poverty refers to the lack of adequate financial resources such that individuals, households, and entire communities don't have the means to subsist or acquire the basic necessities for a flourishing life. This means being so poor as to struggle to obtain food, clothing, shelter, and medicines. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/poverty.asp%23:~:text%3DPoverty%2520refers%2520to%2520the%2520lack,clothing%252C%2520shelter%252C%2520and%2520medicines.&ved=2ahUKEwi3l7KM3ML_AhXDnFwKHTexAy4QFnoECBEQBQ&usg=AOvVaw3yS3yYncpJTsc1jl-xsTFg

In the two definitional context above you can see it all points to same things and criteria that could be said of a person to be poor in the absence or inability of the person to provide for himself and family such needs. But unfortunately today, celebrity lifestyle and the quest for man to acquire and accumulate wealth has increasingly made it difficult to agree that anyone who can only adequately afford shelter, clothes, food and health is not still poor.
The desire to obtain and acquire ostentatious valuables has made even those that can only afford the basic needs of life to still think themselves poor, and this idea has led to ingratitude in today's society among humans.
1789  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is the best board to focus on as a newbie in the forum? on: June 14, 2023, 08:01:03 AM
I'm beginning to understand the forum better by the day, but I'm still under a learning process, cause we learn everyday and I'm big on receiving advise from older members
I find it easier to post on gambling, economics, politics and several others, but I want to know which board to focus more on as a newbie, what's your say on this? I'm open to learning from your opinions.
It all depends on where your interest lies be it that yours might be different from mine and if I should tell you from my own very perspective of interest it may or may not be helpful to you as it has been for me.

There are plenty boards in the forum and all are of benefit to a newbie based on what actually brought them to the forum. Though it's mostly advisable that as newbies the starting ladder of focus should be in the beginners and help board followed by bitcoin discussion board and any other board could depend on your interest. For instance, if you're an enthusiast trader then you can add the Trading discussion board to your menu and any other that meet your interest still.
1790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has become un-useable. Switch to altcoins or short sell on: June 13, 2023, 03:34:27 PM
BTC fees are skyrocketing to the moon in what some are calling a crisis.  Bitcoin has become completely un-useable as an actual functional currency and many are switching to alternatives such as Solana for speed or Monero for privacy.

What caused this and what can you do about it?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11EL7MpqALs

The best anyone can do after reading this post is not to further click the link provided by the OP as it's aimed to confuse the feeble minds, cause it's obvious he's just trying to promote some alts. And such misinformation as this could be misleading to newbies that have just emerged into the crypto space. We all know that BTC is the most trusted cryptocurrency and the leading of all digital currency, there's no alternative to BTC when it comes to safe crypto investment.
1791  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good time to invest in BTC? on: June 13, 2023, 03:08:21 PM
First of all Bitcoin is a digital currency that possess the ability to surpass gold, fine it's is very volatility but it's the most trusted currency amongst all cryptocurrencies. Concerning what you are enquiring about, it all depends on you, are you doing it in the short term or long term?

To me, if it's a long term investment, then the price is very good but if you are buying it for the short term or hence you need to have a deep insight about how to navigate your way in the market. But understand that as long as bitcoin or cryptocurrency is concerned patience is always a needed key to succeed.
1792  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why People Still Gamble? on: June 13, 2023, 08:17:10 AM
People are saying that gambling is not good so nobody should involved themselves in it. Fathers/Mothers (parents) are shouting to their sons and sometimes beating them all because of gambling.
For anyone to get beaten by parents or guardians for taking part in gambling then such a person must be less than 18+ or still under parents care and as such the parents still does legally have a say in their decisions about life. If they love gambling that much then they have to wait for the ripe time when they are independent of themselves.
Quote

Upon all these allegations against gambling. People are still Gambling. WHY? Is There Any Mystery Behind?
People will always criticize what they don't have interest for and it's normal for we humans. And there's no mystery attached to gambling and why people still gambling irrespective of all the so-called critiques. We all gamble for the fun and the profit attached to the fun by when we win, that's why good gamblers frown at gambling addiction.

1794  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you stop gambling (sports betting, casino e.t.c)? on: June 12, 2023, 09:28:29 PM
Stopping from gambling is a personal decision that should be backed by core discipline because the addiction of gambling is not something you can deal with under one day. You need to have a reason(s) why you shouldn't gamble anymore and allow those reasons be your driving force in eliminating the urge to continually gamble.

If you got into gambling out of the idea of killing boredom for example. Then in same vein you find something else fascinating to replace that time you spend on gambling under the idea of killing boredom. Tie your decision of ending gambling on your reasons why you needed to stop it. With doing so it could help you to stop gambling. Purpose in life is everything.
1795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is still a digital currency on: June 12, 2023, 04:57:03 PM

Actually Bitcoin stored in centralized exchange and banks are same, you're don't have full control over your money.
There's no big difference between a centralized exchange and banks actually, only that with your money in centralized exchange you are able to use it to trade at any point in time, you can choose to use it all and you don't need to go through so much paperwork before been allowed to do so unlike with the traditional banks. We can ascribe centralized exchange to be the banks of the 21stC cause just like the traditional banks they also do work with KYC only that they're are mostly crypto focused.  Even though they help facilitate the easy use of bitcoin for various purposes it still doesn't sound wise to keep your asset lying in CEX as it's not just safe.

1796  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is there anyone else who shares the same sentiments? on: June 12, 2023, 04:14:53 PM
I don't know how anyone could come up with a controversial sentiment about the issue between bitcoin and binance and how that got to relate with or ought to affect bitcoin. Except they don't know any better, cause in this very case one doesn't need to be of the technical-know-how to understand that binance and bitcoin has not connectivity as binance is just like every other exchange we can think of. Traders should be worried about BNB not BTC.

As for binance am optimistic they're gonna pull through all of these issues with the SEC as we all can perceive it's just an attack based on sentiment only that it's just not in my place to utter the obvious at least not yet.

1798  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Easy or hard to quit? on: June 12, 2023, 01:17:06 PM
Can you quit gambling if you make a life changing money and never go back to gambling?
I haven't had such luck to win such amount of money that could be referred to as life changing amount for me yet, but if I am luck enough to win such money then quiting gambling and replacing it with a business is the goal.
Quote

I asked this because those who made some money through gambling near me always go back to gamble and they end up losing everything they once made through gambling.

Is it fine to say that people should not go back into gambling once they made high amount of money? Because the chance of losing that money again is very high, even if they don't use all the money to gamble at once, gambling can take it all back in time.
You shouldn't be surprised seeing such people still going back to continuous gambling despite winning such life changing amount. But then I asked, what was the main aim of them gambling? Cause I thought we all gamble to by luck be able to win an amount of money that could change our lives and never for we to have to go back to the gambling again. But I recently realized it's not same for some people.

Sometime in 2019 I had a gambling mate that won an amount of money at around 7.4million in our local currency  but ended up lavishing and squandering the money that could have been a live changing money for him being in his late 20s. A apart of that squandering was exhausted in gambling with the hope that he was going to hit a high win of which he started increasing in wager 3x than normal. Today he's looking like someone that has never gotten a thousand to his name before.

From his actions I gain a little experience and I also observed that what causes people to still head on to gambling after winning a life changing amount of cash is because that never had a business or project plan on ground of what and how they would use any life changing amount of money they may be lucky to win in their gambling endeavors. Hence, their spending does lack direction and purpose.

Quote
Have you ever won a high amount of money from gambling and managed to not lose them all back to gambling? And to date, you are still gambling?
I have managed to win good amount of money but not what I could refer to as high amount. And in every amount of money I win from gambling I always use a good proportion of the total amount to get myself a good property or invest it into my business, while I use the rest to try again...

If they want airdrop from Optimism, they must follow up Optimism's official website and channels.

That website isn't from Optimism project and fortunately the browser shows a warning when anyone visiting that site. I am sure that warning only appears after some people reported that scam, phishing site. So if you are the first one falls to that scam site, you might be scammed by them.
These scammers are so trickish that even experienced people in cryptocurrency that ain't careful enough may easily fall for it not to talk of newbies. These scammer could actually make an unnoticeable change to a site like putting a dot or a comma or anything of sort that at a click in your ignorance it redirect you to their phishing site intercepting your data unknown to you. People should be absolutely meticulous while scouting for these airdrops making sure to differentiate between a genuine site and an infiltrated one.
