17961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How hot is it safe to mine GPUs? on: April 30, 2017, 05:23:10 PM
Curious to ask, because I live in a place with above 80 or even 90% humidity at times, does "wet" air effect the reasonable amount of heat PCs can take or even the fan efficiency? I always suspected that my computers didn't last as long in non-air conditioned (still cool, but just much more humid) rooms.

Oh this is a wonderful little site, thank you for doing this!

Will it be possible as well, to attach a date to each new entry so we can also track against specific timeframes for each "holding" of coin? I'm still playing around with the graphs also, and can't seem to find a way to do this manually. I know it says there's a 2-week limit. is space really an issue for you?

Hey gekko, I couldn't verify your message... could you try it again? use the code tags before and after your msg so we can see it more clearly also.
P.S. your username misspelt?

And now, if someone could kindly do the favour for me. I've posted before in another thread but perhaps this one can get more attention!

17964  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Use Poloniex for receiving payments on: April 30, 2017, 12:04:38 PM
I think by default, minimum security measures would mean that you should be in full control of funds you deposit into any exchange/site. However, when dealing with sometimes relatively small amounts, I myself make my withdraws from one site to another using the addresses from both, without it routing through my own wallet.

It's not recommended, and I accept the risk but the risk of depositing my own funds from my wallet to me is the same: the exchange could delist or simply lose my funds for whatever reason.

The only think you must check is if the site insists on withdrawing to the same deposit address. Then you've no choice but to use your own wallet.
17965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help me get a transaction 3 confirmations faster on: April 28, 2017, 04:58:23 PM
Looks like you got the help you needed! Consider using a wallet like Electrum next time, setting your fees to the current recommended fee using the link in the 2nd post... or RBF if this happens again. Would possibly be far cheaper than the $5 you'd like to pay:)
17966  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MetaGold - Indie games using blockchain [JOIN ICO] on: April 28, 2017, 04:53:22 PM
Devs... maybe a good idea to look in this forum for some long running MMORPGs that have used cryptos at least in part for the running of their in-game economies. I can remember the name of one I joined, Dark Knights, unfortunately it lost the entire db a month ago. It was even moved to micro earnings in this forum (unfortunate) but that's part of the perception you've to fight if you want to build a similar game.
17967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you a member of the Millionaire Club? on: April 28, 2017, 05:02:40 AM
A bit of a misleading thread title because you're asking if we're in the One Million club, not if we're millionaires. 21 BTC is not even 40,000 dollars at its highest price yet.

Now if there were a satoshi millionaire club then I can proudly tell you I reached membership in just over a month since installing my first wallet.

In fact, I have over 10 million satoshi right now.

Hi there! I just wanted to check back here after posting my signed message and address above a month ago. Did I post in the wrong format or is this thread no longer usable? If that's so, is there a thread I could use to do this?

Thanks in advance!

I need to dig really deep when I look at Announcements, because I always listen to web radio anyway and to think I could have had a simple alt just collecting for doing that. Installed wallet, started listening: looking good!
17970  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are signature campaigns really working for gambling sites? on: April 27, 2017, 03:33:30 PM
Across the board, I don't know the true value of signature campaigns, but I can say that unlike ads I see outside of the forum, I've clicked on quite a few sigs. Mainly because I know most aren't referrals and most lead to information that's at least relevant, if not always useful. I've even joined some sites as a member purely as a result from their exposure on sigs.

17971  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Need A Partner on: April 27, 2017, 05:19:13 AM
Let's put it this way. Leave a list of 3 things you expect from this partner, and 3 skills you think this partner should have as a minimum. Then at least if people apply you aren't wasting their time or yours asking these basic pre-application questions.

Might be nice to share some insight as a response to the first query here too.
17972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen to your BTC and alts if you died ? on: April 26, 2017, 04:34:58 PM
There's an idea here, I wonder if it can be implemented - is there a chance for some sort of legacy transition feature that could be built into the code to ensure that bitcoins are not lost due to death? Or is the security compromise too great for it to be part of the code?

I foresee conventional will writers taking on Bitcoin inheritance... in fact, I wonder if I might start a non-profit idea like this.
17973  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 26, 2017, 03:46:21 PM
Another early good morning Bitcoinland.

I see the price is continuing to creep slowly upward... currently $1295USD (Bitcoinaverage).

The battle over $1300 should be fun. As I'm typing I see it hit $1300 on Stamp.

I don't see any rocket train GIFs, just doom-and-gloom predictions of some huge expected crash. Be greedy when others are fearful, etc.

Glad I'm an investor not a trader. Maybe they'll be right and we'll get a big dip. In that case I'll buy more.

Meanwhile I'm enjoying the show. Go Bitcoin go.

Has it been a week if not more now holding near this $1,300 price? I don't remember anything holding for a week this year so far, so am surprised each day to find that it hasn't shot up or tumbled down. If the dip happens, I'm hoping for it to happen in two months or it'll be a wasted opportunity for me to buy more.
17974  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Market Cap: an All-Time High on: April 26, 2017, 03:37:19 PM
I think the most remarkable fact is not so much the absolute amount, but rather the tendency away from bitcoin.

Absolutely agree. This growing market cap for crypto is not only expected but arguably disappointing considering the incredible expectations of hodlers. But what took everyone by surprise was the spurt contributed by alts. Good take on the 3 outcomes, at least in the short term. I must confess that the cynical pump and dump view is the one that I find is most likely.
17975  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Poll: Are you in favor of patching covertASICBOOST? on: April 26, 2017, 11:04:38 AM
Been discussed ad nauseam. It's not related to asicboost (though theoretically covert asicboost might need to occasionally make empty blocks):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1085800.0

Thanks for the link... I've spent months as a longstanding newbie and don't recall seeing any discussion like that. Happy to be shown the way. Thanks!
17976  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Poll: Are you in favor of patching covertASICBOOST? on: April 26, 2017, 06:16:40 AM
Speaking of empty blocks, I recently discovered pools like OneHash (if I recall correctly) mining a number of empty (single transaction) blocks and wondered in fact if this eas deliberate. Why wouldn't they want to include txs in their blocks? Don't they make extra from the fees or does it somehow add to their difficulty?
17977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: My Portfolio on: April 25, 2017, 05:56:31 PM
I should say that I hate the so-called Bitcoin maximalists who are blind and still insisting how great is Bitcoin. Bitcoin is coming to be like Windows95 or Vista in 2030 and it is not about scalability and cheap TX fees. It is about technology and centralization. BTC power consumption is hell and PoW has no future. Only miners are profiting from the high TX fees. Look how the consumption of power is growing to sustain the Bitcoin network and it will only grow in the future. Bitcoin core are centralized entity absolutely controling BTC. Actually, BTC is the coin of core and chinese miners. I'm happy that I sold everything and I have strong belief in alts. The technology is only underway. Forget BTC despite they are manipulating the price shouting "to the moon", BTC is going to reach $5000, 10k, 100k 1 million bla bla bla. Bullshit.

Didn't hear the term BTC maximalists until now, so I should thank you for that. However, BTC minimalists (I'm assuming that's what you are from natural deduction of your post) might do well to compare crypto currencies on their vast unseen merits, not merely those of face value, which you refer to.

Price? Cost? The coin of core and chinese miners? Are you saying alts are the ones that will go to the moon? Will never run into problems of cost? Will never gain anything resembling "core" (that's a bad thing, isn't it?) and won't have cartels of minters?

Let's all be crypto maximalists instead!
17978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We knew the Large Bitcoin Collider was useless, now we know it's also rootkit on: April 25, 2017, 03:43:29 PM
You crazy ass computer people.  I had to google what rootkit meant, lol.  Feel like an old fart and thus my feeling is catching up with reality--but there's no way in fuck to hack bitcoin.  The story keeps changing but the result is always the same.

The first time I came across rootkit was when I tried using an app that was supposedly only useable with rootkit, I googled... followed instructions and promptly set about destroying my Android phone. That was years ago and I still don't really know what it is, except that because I am an old fart like you, I must avoid using rootkit if I have to follow a guide.

No *realistic* way to hack Bitcoin, you do mean, right? Wink
17979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia Opens the Door to Cryptocurrencies on: April 25, 2017, 03:31:48 PM
You can't really open your doors to a guest that doesn't need your invitation to enter (or, for that matter, enters before you're aware!). Seriously though, it's very progressive of countries on both ends of the world (Japan and Russia) to accept Bitcoin - perhaps embracing it is too premature, but the mere act of legalising it could mean increased adoption behind the old Iron Curtain.
17980  Economy / Economics / Re: Loans too risky? on: April 25, 2017, 11:22:49 AM
Loaning with interest is the oldest way of making money from money. Most conventional investment funds have a small amount from loans as they're considered the least risky form of investment. It's still the most sought after service from banks after savings. Loaning privately though,a very different story if you don't have the means to collect.
