Hi guys, i dont have money for a Nano Ledger X or S

and i also feel FOR ME that if something goes wrong with the unit , like if it does not turn on one day or just a button doesnt work or sommething stupid, then i dont know what i would do.
If you keep your 24 seed word phrase safe, you can just buy a new Ledger and restore everything.

I feel for me, my best alternative to not store my coins on an exchange like i am currently doing, is to put my coins on a bitcoin core wallet.
Offline storage is safer, if your Bitcoin Core runs on an online computer, it could be compromised, especially on Windows.

I have fully downloaded and synchronized the blockchain of 250 gigs, BUT now i would like to confirm what i should do in case something breaks....
How can i keep my wallet and my stuff safe , before i send my fraction of my bitcoin to my wallet....
And here's the ***: if you have a load of Bitcoin, you have money for a hardware wallet.
To answer your question: make a backup of wallet.dat. Then, make another backup, and once in a while make another backup on a new storage medium (say USB-stick) just in case the hardware where you made the other backups fails.

That's weird. The current recommended fee is 1 sat/byte
I think coinb.in's estimate is currently broken, Bitcoin Core gives a much higher estimate.

Trust list for: LoyceV (Trust: +20 / =2 / -0) (DT1! (48) 3365 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP) (created 2019-08-10_Sat_06.04h)

I have only one neutral feedback rating from a DT-member, but since I left myself neutral feedback from "LoyceBot" (which I use for scraping), loyce.club shows 2 of them.

17988  Other / Meta / Re: Opinions on who to add to my trust list. on: August 20, 2019, 04:41:16 PM
What I am getting at is, picking on the 1st name in your trust list. Why do you trust dooglus? Have you seen his posts here and trust his judgement on others because of it? Have you had trades with him and see how he treats others in trading and how he responds to them? Is he generally a useful person on the forum and helps out others? OR have you known him as a tech geek for 10 years and think he is great person, even if you have no real idea how they are really behaving here? Remember, he is your friend, you are much more likely to give the person you have known and hung out with for a decade the benefit of the doubt if he is generating a bit of spam and pumping some alt coin then you would give to me an unknown person on a forum. That is just human nature.
I can answer this: From what I've seen, dooglus is what I would call "level headed". I've seen his posts (but not all of them), and trust his judgement based on his posts and the feedback I've seen from him. He's been a forum member for 8.5 years,  I've seen him be helpful to others (example) and as an early adopter he's probably a tech geek indeed (and rich enough to make scamming very unlikely). He's not my friend, I don't know him and I don't think I've ever had any personal interaction.
17989  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Using mouse input for extra entropy on: August 20, 2019, 04:07:49 PM
You move your mouse until you make the necessary entropy. You can use your keyboard as well with your mouse movements. After that, your private key is generated.
When I do this, I move my mouse with my other hand, and criss cross my hands on the keyboards to make it less likely to use a repetitive pattern.

Quote
However, I read somewhere that humans are not good sources of entropy.... so maybe that is not a good idea. We problably keep moving the mouse in some crazy pattern.
I always assumed this isn't the only source of entropy they use, but it's added to some other random generator in the computer. I've just tested it on https://www.bitaddress.org: without using my mouse (Tab many times to be able to type in the entry field), I filled it by holding the A-button. After that, I did the same again. As expected, this produced 2 different private keys.
17990  Other / Meta / Re: Opinions on who to add to my trust list. on: August 20, 2019, 03:55:10 PM
Have you seen my Trust list viewer (direct link) yet? You can use it to see who others have on their Trust list. Theymos' Trust list could be a good starting point.

There are a few people here, that I have had dealings with in the real world, with 0 interactions here. Not even posting on the same boards. They are mostly altcoiners. Do I add them? I know ‘IRL’ they can be trusted and have good judgement. Here, is a bit more difficult.
Have they left any feedback on others? If so, you can use those to assess their judgement on others. If you think they have good judgement: add them to your Trust list.

And:
Don't confuse your Trust list with Feedback though:
  • Feedback: people you trust (or don't trust: red)
  • Trust list: people who's judgement on others you trust (or don't trust: ~)
17991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Abstract Analysis on: August 20, 2019, 03:33:38 PM
The chart below shows a sideways parabola fitted to bitcoin price minima on the log chart.  This curve hits ten thousand dollars in September 2020.

I noticed another thing in this log view recently: whenever Bitcoin reaches an ATH, it never again dropped under the value it has approximately 6 months before the ATH.

"It was the mod".

No it wasn't, don't lie. EDIT: https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php
It's a post from (exactly!) a year ago:
I wish i could have known where this dickhead is living so that i could hire someone to put him down or atleast break his arms and legs ive got a couple of spare BTCs.
What a waste of money. Even if these weren't empty threats, are you seriously going to use all that effort for someone who is mostly irrelevant in your life? It seems childish.
I didn't scrape modlog yet back then, so I can't verify it myself.

Hinting at hiring a hitman to injure somebody on this forum = negative feedback as far as I’m concerned
Anything covered by forum rules should be handled by Mods:
Forum rules

8. No threats to inflict bodily harm, death threats.
I'd say hinting something ("I wish I'd know where he lives so I can do x") should be threated the same as a direct thread ("I'm going to do x"), and shouldn't get a free pass.
The post got deleted though, I don't know if it was done by a Mod or by xolxol himself.
17994  Other / Meta / Re: How often do you "clean" your trust list. on: August 20, 2019, 10:09:22 AM
My Trust list is the same as it was in January. I'm very conservative with adding people.
My Distrust list got a bit bigger though, and I removed someone (now DT1).

Lets face it, if their account wakes up they may or may not be the same user that they were back then.
Some old users, like guitarplinker, I've trusted for a long time. He's on my Trust list because I value his ratings, even though he's barely been active in the past years.
If you're afraid someone is going to be someone else when the accounts reactivates, he shouldn't have been on your Trust list in the first place. I'm fairly certain the users on my list are unlikely to sell their account.

It seems to be headed in the opposite direction, particularly due to the low barrier of entry to DT1 and random selection. There will be more and more DT1-eligible users but the pool of responsible high-integrity individuals is not growing as fast. If anything it's getting smaller due to sane non-drama people opting out via voluntary blacklisting or simply by wiping out their trust lists, and new-ish DT1 members are not going to risk their positions by excluding some account farmer who can retaliate with a handful of counter-exclusions.
The hostile takeover scenario. Retaliation exclusions make that a DT1 can only exclude so many others until he's excluded on his own. It's the "political battle" theymos wanted/predicted.

So my first instinct was correct: it's Humbertin (also known by many variations on this name), a known scammer. I'll tag him.
17996  Other / Meta / Re: Limit signature campaigns on: August 20, 2019, 09:13:26 AM
I think there are not exact standards for post-length or spam megathread, so let it be verified by managers.
A good post is worthless if it's posted on page 200 of a spam thread. Nobody is going to read it.
On the other hand, a much smaller thread on the same topic as thousands of other threads doesn't add any value, even if it only has one page.
17997  Other / Meta / Re: @small improvement request. In merited posts, show your name in red or bold or.. on: August 20, 2019, 09:11:46 AM
Why is the creation date of the bitcointalk account an important factor?
I don't think it's important, it's probably an arbitrary choice. Trust settings uses the same order. From a programmer's perspective it makes sense to just sort the (user) numbers.

Quote
So if your account is older than mine but we send the same amount of merits for the same post, your name would appear before before mine every time?
Correct Cheesy
I stand corrected!

By "oldest account first", LoyceV tried to mean the account which merited the post first followed by the subsequent accounts meriting the same amount of merits.
No, that's not what I meant. It's also not how it's sorted.

I highly doubt that. Whenever a problem came up, it was always resolved within a few days.

Can I ask that which are differences between DT1, DT2 members?
DT1 members select DT2 members, just like DT2 members select DT3 members.

Quote
I ask because I saw both DT1 and DT2 members can leave negative feedbacks on users
All users can leave feedback, just not all of them are shown by default.

I saw theymos' updated trust list every month, does it mean that DT1 members are users added in Trust list of theymos?
