181  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chances of $150 again on: October 25, 2013, 12:47:38 AM
I just looked at a graph of the past month, and that gave more perspective. It's not like we've been above 150 for very long...
182  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC becomes mature and stable currency on: October 24, 2013, 11:11:28 PM
You people are crazy!  Shocked

There was a $58 drop, followed by a $42 rise and now it's down another ~$20. If that isn't highly volatile, I don't know what is. Resilient would be the word I'd use for it, but hardly "stable"

Well, not stable, but a 25% drop is a lot less than we've seen in the past... But who knows what tomorrow will bring? I think it's hard to ever declare anything about the price of Bitcoin, other than it's volatile!
183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin analysis – The coming weeks on: October 24, 2013, 11:02:49 PM
Not sure if this was your goal, but I subscribed to your newsletter. Hey, it's free! And now we can sit back and see how accurate your crystal ball is.

I do get a bit confused by predictions based on chart analysis. I mean, in a bubble, they might have meaning. But I think news about major Bitcoin-related events, plus whale traders pushing up and down on the market, are something that looking at a chart of past prices ignores.
184  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chances of $150 again on: October 24, 2013, 10:50:13 PM
Where your fiat was one week ago? $150 might never come again.
So close!

My fiat, was, precisely one week ago, in my bank account, waiting to be debited by COINBASE UNTIL THEY CANCELED MY ORDER DUE TO "HIGH RISK"!

Odd, I worry about my bank canceling my accounts due to transfers to Bitcoin exchanges, not the other way around. Not that you owe an explanation, but do you have a clue why they considered you hight risk?

I would bet yes, we will revisit $150. I think extreme volatility (up and down) is something we should be expecting. But the trend is clearly up, and that's all that matters to me. Volatility is a gift to buy in on dips. I guess traders try to play it both ways (and the big ones try to push it both ways).

Put a buy order (or many) wherever you want. Worst that can happen is it doesn't execute.
185  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2-sided Bitcoin Keychain & Litecoin Keychain on: October 24, 2013, 04:44:17 PM
Just to update, Amazon.com has these Bitcoin Keychains back in stock. So if you're an Amazon Prime member, it's free 2-day shipping in the U.S. (or free with orders over $35).
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJWEVHE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00DJWEVHE&linkCode=as2&tag=papercl-20

However, with Bitcoin's nice gains lately, perhaps paying in BTC from either of these stores makes more sense?
Ships from USA: http://cryptoanarchy.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=64&product_id=131
Ships from EU: http://btctrinkets.com/presta2/index.php?id_product=23&controller=product

Our new Litecoin Keychains are available at http://Lkeychain.com, and will soon also be fulfilled on Amazon.com.

Anybody? Even a guess from someone knowledgeable?
187  Economy / Collectibles / Re: New Bitcoin Specie by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: October 24, 2013, 02:57:44 PM
I haven't seen the Mulligan Mint coin in person, only in photos. Aesthetically, I think the Mulligan Mint coin looks much less sophisticated (reminds me of a token I used to get as a kid to play video games at the mall, rather than what comes to mind when I think of a silver coin).
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will October's bubble burst? on: October 24, 2013, 02:53:39 PM
So how does one know if a trader's success is due superior skill or just plain old luck?
According to every serious study that has been done on this topic: there is no such thing as skill - just illusions created by our inability to understand randomness accurately.

The only way to consistently beat the market is to cheat.

So are you cheating when you buy BTC which outperforms the S&P 500?

My guess is he meant that those who have performed well (managing mutual funds and hedge funds) benefitted from trading on illegal inside information (hence, cheating). I also think there's a difference between being long BTC (as I am, and that's how I read your statement) and actively trading in-and-out on trends.

Wish I was awake last night, I probably would have bought some BTC on Coinbase (since Dwolla shut to BTC, I haven't funded any exchange accounts to place limit orders). I'm not a trader, but being long BTC, I will buy on what appear to be dips.
189  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Blockchain - Bitcoin transaction failed on: October 24, 2013, 03:11:18 AM
I just had a very similar thing happen, can anyone tell me what this means? My email says exactly the same thing as the previous post about a failed transaction, except with different addresses, and the final amount coming in is supposedly 0.00000001 BTC. Unlike the previous post, the transaction failed about an hour or so after the transaction appeared in my list of Blockchain.info transactions. The transaction appeared shortly after someone sent some BTC to one of my Blockchain.info addresses. And here's a link to check out the crazy failed transaction:

https://blockchain.info/address/1D9LdyMZzeKpTicXpr1npiwKCBMmoSdTyp

Any thoughts? My only guess is it's internal Blockchain.info housekeeping, for lack of better words and understanding.
190  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will October's bubble burst? on: October 23, 2013, 11:05:51 PM
I know traders posses skills and knowledge that I do not. But I also know there's some randomness in the mix. How much of trading success is due to skill vs. randomness? I think statistics dictates that if there are 1,000 traders of equal skill, a small percentage will do extremely well, simply due to being on the extreme edge of a probability curve -- in other words, some of those who look like geniuses will really just have benefitted from luck. So how does one know if a trader's success is due superior skill or just plain old luck? And how does one know the trading tactics that worked well before will work again, when a much larger set of skilled traders may now be competing with them?

I'm long BTC, and while I buy on dips, I have yet to sell to take profits. I assume I might sell a portion of BTC at some level, but I'm certainly not knowledgeable to actively trade.

Congrats on all the media using photos of your coins! Those great photos of your coins are really paying off.
192  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Silk Road Hollywood Movie on: October 23, 2013, 10:31:44 PM
After the Silk Road bust, I kept telling my cousin that, if they ever made a Silk Road movie, he should play the lead. Not only is he an actor, but he looks a LOT like Ross Ulbricht.

Well, now that a movie is in the works, I'm wondering if there's a chance my cousin might be able to audition for the roll. Not that any of you are the casting agent for the project, but here are a couple of comparison pics (I grabbed the photos from my cousin from his FB page). Do you see the resemblance?

193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Stolen coins on: October 22, 2013, 08:20:18 PM
Good point.

I've edited my post to no longer indicate that your assumption was "silly".

Then mission accomplished, thanks.
194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Stolen coins on: October 22, 2013, 05:15:21 PM
Look at the transaction silly.

His friend didn't loose 500 BTC. This isn't 500+ BTC stolen from a single person.

This is a total of over 500 BTC stolen in smaller amounts from MANY people all in one big transaction.

I suspect the OP is correct.  If 2FA wasn't turned on and a weak password was used, then the thief probably grabbed as many identifiers as they could, used them to download as many encrypted private keys as possible, and then used brute-force to decrypt as many private keys as they could.

Finally, they used all those private keys to create one big transaction sending all the funds from all the cracked addresses to a single address.

Ahhh, okay. To defend myself as not being silly, isn't it theoretically possible that all these addresses belonged to one person's blockchain.info account? I use many addresses in my blockchain.info account, just to keep track of different payments, etc.  So my payment transactions from Blockchain.info often are coming from multiple addresses. With that background, is there some way you could look at this transaction and know it was definitely more than one Blockchain.info account that was hacked?
195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Stolen coins on: October 21, 2013, 10:26:14 PM
My friend had a wallet at blockchain.info created back in april - he has just checked the balance, and it's all gone. I've had a look at the transaction - over 500BTC in one go. My guess is that someone got hold of a bunch of identifiers and had a go bruteforcing the passwords. Any weak passwords would have lost coins. Can anyone shed a bit more light on this?

https://blockchain.info/tx/89f8223bc1d9140889496dea843df1854f17aee35b8ac5006ec1efee2ba5bd80

500 BTC??? Please tell me he has lots more BTC spread around in other wallets. I'm so paranoid, I can't imagine keeping that much Bitcoin in one wallet. For that matter, I can't imagine having that much Bitcoin at all.

Regardless, your friend must be devastated. My genuine condolences.
196  Economy / Collectibles / Re: A new 2-sided Bitcoin Keychain on: October 19, 2013, 09:33:56 PM
Why can't we buy some from you?

Are you talking Bitcoin or Litecoin keychains? I've tried to support my Bitcoin Keychain retailers by not actively selling them retail myself (other than via Amazon, as that channel is pretty powerful for fiat buyers). But I do not yet have Litecoin keychain retailers in place, so I will be selling those myself, at least until I can get some online stores to carry them.

But the bottom line is, my life and day-job keep me super-busy, and I've found I get pretty stressed when I add the responsibility of fulfilling keychain orders. So I prefer to offload online retail sales to businesses that specialize in it. I make dramatically less profit that way, but I've decided the trade-off is necessary to keep my stress levels at check. Hope that makes sense. If I had spare time in my life, I would try to fulfill every keychain myself, and make several times the profit on every keychain, vs. wholesale! But my life is so busy, it's a bit sad... Someday I'd love to have time to watch a couple of episodes of Breaking Bad, and see what everyone is talking about.

I'm available by PM if anyone really wants to buy either of these products direct. It's not something I'm pushing, but I also want to make these products available to people.
197  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will October's bubble burst? on: October 19, 2013, 09:06:45 PM
I sure can't answer you, but the gains (and volatility in general) really stir up the chemicals in my brain. While I know stability is good for Bitcoin in some ways, it's clear we're a long way from seeing that. Big gains make me happy for the increased value of my Bitcoins (plus I think it drives Bitcoin interest). Big crashes make me happy for the buying opportunities.

I just tried but can't even venture a guess.
198  Economy / Collectibles / Re: A new 2-sided Bitcoin Keychain on: October 19, 2013, 08:48:14 PM
Thanks everyone! NewLiberty, you made me laugh! I do think the Holiday season will be a good time to be giving gifts of cryptocurrency and associated products. I may need to get a few more of your silver coins, for those on my list who deserve a little more than a keychain.

For anyone desperate to own a Litecoin Keycain quickly, it is now available on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G10SR5S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00G10SR5S&linkCode=as2&tag=papercl-20

Might be a couple of days before I have a page up to buy with Bitcoin checkout. Litecoin payments will be a little trickier to implement, I've still got to figure that out. If anyone is desperate to own a Litecoin keychain and pay with BTC or LTC, feel free to PM me, and we can work it out.

For Bitcoin Keychains, I still would like to direct people to CryptoAnarchy.com (U.S.) and BTCtrinkets.com (EU), who only accept Bitcoin. Amazon is a third option, but if you are an Amazon Prime member, you should wait until next week, when they'll have a new batch to fulfill themselves (free 2-day shipping for Amazon Prime members).
199  Economy / Collectibles / Re: A new 2-sided Bitcoin Keychain on: October 18, 2013, 11:06:09 PM
New Litecoin Keychains, more info coming next week!

While I know the Litecoin market is smaller than the Bitcoin market, I figure Litecoiners might also like a very affordable physical representation to show off their cryptocurrency passion. Of course, there's the AMAZING Lealana physical Litecoins, but I figured a less-expensive coin-like Litecoin Keychain might be of interest. Here's a pic of both the silver-plated Litecoin keychain and brass-plated Bitcoin keychain.

200  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bye bye bitcoin (Split: Morality of Bitcoin vs. Fiat Discussion) on: October 17, 2013, 04:13:16 PM
The most common misunderstanding about Bitcoin is:

"there will never be more than 21 Million bitcoins". True or false?

Well, unfortunately, false for most use cases.

I've personally lent a bitcoin or two to someone.
For any economist in the world it is clear that i thereby created bitcoins.
Not "physical" or "digital" ones, sure, but "deposit" bitcoins.

In the future, banks might adopt Bitcoin. Let's just assume for the moment that they do, and that they treat it like any other good ol' currency. Legally, they are free to use fractional reserve on bitcoins the same way they do with the Dollar. And you damn well bet they will. After all, that's how they make money and get their little bonuses. And people will use those "deposit" bitcoins, just the way they use their "deposit" Dollars and Euros today. And why wouldn't they? It served them well. So, for any practical reason, we should not think of the number of bitcoins as being limited to 21 Million. It just doesn't make sense.
Very interesting point.
