The blockchain has been stable lately and has not had any hit-and-run attacks that I have noticed.

I too haven't noticed any hit-and-runs lately. The blockchain has had a stable 400Mh/s+ for a while now. All seems fine there. Even though Nyan is vulnerable to an attack the likelihood is very low.

Is there any way to see more sell orders in cryptsy, rather than just 100 that's displayed?

Currently as much as I can see there's approx 6.8btc in Sell wall and 23.5btc in Buy wall and total of 73k CSC is available up to 12k sat.

Tried the api, but returns the same result: https://bitraise.me/cscsellorders.php

Wow I invested 1 bitcoin in this middle of last year and now logged into my cryptsy and like 280bitcoin worth.?! wtf.. time to sell sell sell

I cant see how is this possible. Lets do a little math: I checked, last summer low was ~150sat. Now the price is ~7000sat. If you invested 1btc, that was approx 666000 csc. Now this amount CSC is worth approx 46btc.

Either Your calculations are wrong, or You missed the original train. Btw, its not late to jump on, CSC is still cheap  Wink

...and he wouldn't  be able to sell 46btc worth of CSC at the current price. If he tried to do so....and I'm sure he doesn't have anywhere near that much....it would drive the price down to nothing.

What would you suggest for placing ads?

I just use google ads. Initially tried some BTC related ad services but quickly found google ads to make much more. One thing you cant do is ask people to click on your ads in support of the site. I hope miners realize that those ads help pay for hosting, etc. and if they see something that interested them they would click on it. Smiley

I really didn't spend much time optimizing the ads for the site. Kinda just threw them up there. I am fortunate that running the pools does not require an additional monthly cost. The equipment used (enterprise class physical servers) was probably in the $7k range (I forget...and that doesn't include all the auxiliary equipment) but had already been paid for and was not being utilized for anything else. Any expansion would have to be paid for out of pocket. I don't see it ever paying for itself.

The only motivation for me is that I consider this a hobby and find it fun to do. As a hobby any expense is just part of the cost to entertain myself.

I am sorry to announce that I'll be closing down Bitraise.me. Due to insufficient donations I can't keep the service up and running as is.

Please stop mining and transfer all your mined CasinoCoins to your own wallet. The stratum servers will go offline next week and the pool will close by the end of november.

Many thanks to all who mined at Bitraise.me!

https://bitraise.me/

What software was this running on?

VPS at DigitalOcean with ubuntu running apache, mysql and PHP. Used MPOS for the mining pool interface. For proxy i configured stratum mining with multiple diff ports for miners with higher hash rates. Also added a cheap ssl certificate. Franko, Globalcoin and gulden are also installed and configured for mining, but there was not enough interest for that, so i decides to deactivate them.

What did this cost per month? If you don't want to shut it down, maybe we can work out something with the hosting.

$20 a month, if that is covered, i can keep things up and running and maintain the pool.

Let me talk to some people, but I don't think this would be a problem. You've built up some value there. Besides a mining pool could become very profitable by the end of the year.

I have found that having ads on your pool may cover that $20/month. I too run on donations but unlike MPOS where miners can donate a % of their rewards it is done manually. Have only received a few one time donations in the last 3 or so years.

Of course I have been around for a while now and support 8 coins so that probably helps. I offer the source code so anyone can run their own P2Pool node but that takes effort and skill most miners don't want to exert. Have thought of running MPOS pools (even bought the domain name onepool.net a while ago) but to be honest I'm out of space where I am currently at and expanding would require that I purchase additional equipment ($$$$). Hosting somewhere else would cost me a monthly fee and it is just not worth it if you are looking to make anything or even cover your costs.

Have thought of operating at a loss just for the fun of it but then I'm afraid I might have to one day shut it down for financial reasons and don't want to do that. It seems like you need some sort of differentiator to entice miners to use your service and remotely have the chance of making any money running a pool.
185  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: October 23, 2015, 11:57:48 PM
you mean this one http://lnlb.sourceforge.net/ for example?

Maybe. I don't know enough about it. I would imagine that p2pool talking to bitcoind is simple enough that simple load balancing would be enough but I don't know enough to say for sure.

I have found crossroads as a load balancer possible able to do this work. I am going soon to test running two bitcoind with two independent internet connections and let my p2pool node to be connected to them over crossroads.

Let us know how it goes!

(great job so far on the client....was worried that it would look awful...like what happened to worldcoin...but it is looking good!)

I always cringe when I hear about coins "changing the rules of the game"....or in other words subsidy....maybe that's just me but it makes me feel like you can't trust that particular currency anymore than you can fiat.

It's understandable if there was an initial mistake after a coin launches but changing just to increase value reminds me of two words: quantitative easing.

...kind of bothers me as one of the primary so called benefits of crypto is stability. Coins that change the rules demonstrate they can not be trusted.

...although, as a somewhat large holder it would benefit me financially Tongue

I wasn't referring to the maximum number of coins. That will always remain at 63m. The subsidy topic has to do more with increasing the time needed to reach 63,000,000. However, if we were to do this and that's a big IF it would be in a future release down the road and only if the community or the casinos that we service were to bless the idea.

Oh..ok. Read your first post incorrectly Smiley Carry on...  Cool

I have been trying different amounts for the max split setting using this address: PSbEfgz1EVA5z2mNwwbiTftgPBzFjhY6p5

The latest amount I have been testing is a max split setting of 100.

Some observations...as we already know, reducing the max stake causes you to stake more often but with a smaller reward. The address above has about 81k worth of Potcoin but only about 6K is currently staked leaving the rest for new blocks or to be spent. The wallet anticipates a new stake every 6 minutes with the current difficulty of .0024.

When I was testing with a max split of 5K about 46k was staked with whatever the difficulty was at the time. We know that decreasing the max split will cause more stakes to occur but also increase the difficulty.

I think the time coins spend being "staked" is 8 hours before they are available again.

Thoughts?

It seems that making the value smaller would make the coin more usable. I brought up earlier that people looking to use the coin in a transaction can't stake their coins, missing out on possible interest. Having a smaller % of coins staked at any one time would help. Plus that's more staking, which should improve the network's health.

I don't know if its really necessary to make it user selectable. I think we should be able to come up with a reasonable value that works well, at least for now while the network is small.

One side effect of staking too often is an increase in the size of your wallet file. Have gone back to using the 5k version as that is currently staking every hour or so (with the current difficulty) vs every 6 minutes. I noticed the difficulty go way down by doing so....from .0021 to .0011.

The default wallet stakes a few times a day (2-3 I think) due to all your coins being used up (if you have under 2 million) and the 8 hours to maturity. I am considering going back to using that as I personally don't need to be staking that often. Yes it will reduce the difficulty but we should still see close to 40 second block times.

On a side note...it looks like I could make the max split a command line option using the command "reservebalance" as a template but that would take more time than I am willing to exert. Have not checked out how hyperstake or other coins do it yet.
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: PotCoin | GROW WITH US | CRITICAL WALLET UPDATE - POSv | on: October 16, 2015, 09:34:36 PM
Here is a version of the Potcoin Windows wallet that reduces the max split from 2 million to 5 thousand:

potcoin-08.7.2-win32-5Kv2.zip

This version will cause you to stake more often if you have over 5K POT. It stakes more often because it divides up each stake into a max of 5 thousand coins instead of 2 million. This will not increase your staking reward. It should average to be about the same as the official wallet.

This version also implements a fix for allowing outputs to merge even if they're from the same transaction as the staked output. It does not include support for uPNP. I may compile in support for uPNP at a future date if time permits.

Very nice...

Any chance you can compile one with the split set to 1k? I want to try something. I am going to see if I can goose the network every few days and get back some of the blocks we have been short Smiley

Sure....ultimately it would be nice if we could have this user selectable. If anyone knows of any coins that have this feature let me know...will see how hard it is to implement.

With the hashrate at 26.5GH/s we need more miners at xpool.net!

Casinocoin's price is rising and going to the moon! I'm very glad I mined this coin when nobody cared about it. Now it has resurrected and I'm very happy because development is back once more. I've also earned good profits due to this price increase.  Grin

Although tempting...I personally am not selling! Imagine where the price could go if it gets adopted.

I would recommend contracting cryptoid.info for the rich list. It is an excellent block explorer.

I would advocate the method of moving to a fresh blockchain with coin redistribution through a trusted exchange partner.

I don't see a need for this? Other coins have transitioned over to POS without having to do this. Why would we want to go through that messy process?

POS is a viable option
if and only if 300+ clients are willing to go online
ie what coin has done this and successfully

Potcoin recently went POSv2 somewhat successfully. Actually it was kinda a mess because they forgot(?) to include all the POSv2 code into the client before the switch (can't imagine!) and did not have a testnet to try out the changes but in the end they are now full POS.

There really does not need to be that many clients online to keep the blockchain going in POS (as I have seen with potcoin). One wallet can have multiple addresses or...have a low or user selectable (ideal?) nStakeCombineThreshold amount.

...but yes, having enough wallets/addresses staking is important and with the low level of interest in GLC I can see that being an issue.

CasinoCoin most profitable coin to mine at the moment (according to CoinWarz)

Careful with using CoinWarz...they are slow to update coin data. Specifically the diff. Right now they say CSC is 37.2816 when it is actually 48.63. Makes a big difference in mining profitability.

I've just pushed a fix to the myriadteam repository that fixes the issues with chain id's. We were supplying 0 as the chain id for auxpow rpc calls, instead of the intended value (90).

See https://redd.it/3mjp7c and https://github.com/myriadteam/myriadcoin/commit/e0a30bf8f7ee533c004040c85369cf457f12d36f

Note - this is only needed for merge mining pool operators. it will be included in a future release for all.

Thanks...this would explain why I wasn't finding blocks  Undecided

Just confirming...finding blocks now! Cheesy

I tried merge mining MYR with scryt this morning after block was > 1402000, hower I am getting errors when I find blocks:
Code:

Is anybody successfully merge-mining MYR?  Do I need more in the conf than "algo=scrypt" now?

Thanks

I could not get it to merge mining scrypt either (using p2pool). I am successfully merge mining Doge, SYS, and VIA.
