The idiot Republicans in the US congress just massively increased spending. Over the next few years, the yearly deficit will probably double from $600 billion to $1.2 trillion as a result. I have very little faith in congress, and there's a long history of the Republicans and Democrats working together to recklessly increase both military and domestic spending, but even I was surprised by just how ridiculous this spending increase was.
Previously most people would say that although they didn't want to balance the budget this year, in the future it could be balanced. Republicans would sometimes lay out plans to balance the budget in 15 years or some such nonsense. But people will soon be realizing that this is never going to happen now. In a few years just the interest on the debt will be 5% of GDP or more, and this will grow exponentially.
I think that this will come to a point of crisis within the next decade. How do you guys see things playing out? Several possibilities come to my mind:
- The US prints money like crazy, probably to the point of hyperinflation.
- The US explicitly defaults on its bonds. This'd basically be armageddon for everything in contact with the fiat financial system (eg. banks, stocks, retirement funds, etc.), worldwide.
- Taxes are massively increased. Income tax increases probably wouldn't be sufficient; they'd probably need a national VAT of 15-25% to even begin to bring the budget in order. But there are serious political and legal impediments to such a thing.
- I really can't see them cutting spending in any significant way, but maybe it'd be possible if tons of politicians were replaced and/or the crisis grew large enough.
What I'd recommend they do is default on the bonds and just live with the few years of massive fallout, while simultaneously cutting spending massively. But there's very little chance of that. The hyperinflation route seems most likely to me.
(In any case, it's probably good for crypto...)

As other members already stated, this is a private forum, so the owner has any right to do what he thinks is the best move to improve his property.
It doesn't make any sense to complain about any aspect we don't like; much better to be grateful for the opportunity we have to learn a lot and - eventually - to have a little extra income from campaigns.
So, not with the intention to complain, but just to offer some ideas, here are my two cents: the intention behind the merit system is very good, and I think that only spammers and shitposters don't agree. What I find inefficient - and probably more of the "complainers" agree with me - are mainly these two aspect:
1) the system is really too unbalanced in favor of old members. I understand that I have to earn my position, and I agree that only "good members" will rank up. But if I read the old posts of a lot of high rank members, I find a lot of shitpost, and I just wonder why "they" had this privilege by luck in the meanwhile I have to work hard for the same results. I agree, life is unfair, but this aspect is very disturbing.
2) the merits are too scarce. I had ONE. Now I have THREE. Really, a so little number make me anxious to give them. Even if I like a post. I think it's the same for other low rank members. The result is that may be I write a masterwork (I'd like...) but nobody has merit to give to me.
The only members with a lot of merits to give are Legendaries (another privilege..), but it seems that they prefer to reward each other, may be just to show friendship. I'm pretty sure you did some math projections, but in this way the system it's really too rigid. Of course, may be I'm wrong. We'll see.
But please accept the idea that - even if the meirt system is a good point to start - there is a lot of space for improvement.
i agree with you, it is necessary to define a mathematical rule for calculating merits. anew algorithm that solve this problem. i gona to write the algorithm of this system but I doubted for some of the comments to write this algorithm or no.  |

I do work with mysql(though in its basic stages) but what i said and meant is different. However, just to be clear are you stating that just because there is growth in the "database", there may be problems? Again how exactly does growth in volume relate to merit system? It's difficult to comprehend what you're trying to say here. the merit system is a rule that says, your rank will not increase Only by increasing the number of your posts. it means that by this rule, users don't post anything for reaching higher ranks in the forum. so, the volume of the database will not increase like Mushroom species. and users after sometimes only post useful things and this cause decreasing the growth of the database volume |

as you see, recently our forum, use merit system for ranking the user inside user activity. some users are glad for this new system of the ranking and some other no. but Although this merit system is not Pleasant for someone; but it is very necessary for our forum because the ecosystem of bitcointalk forum will some advantage for below reasons: If you don't have a good point which hasn't been stated already, I don't see any reason why this thread should exist. 1-first of all moderation of a forum is very hard work, so when some users sent Successive without searching in the forum, the admin's job to separating all of the posts had been very difficult. I might have thrown up in mouth after reading this. You're trying to say something but it's not at all clear. 2- without merit system; the database volume increased form spam posts! this cause to reduce the speed of loading of the forum and also Cause to Increase resource consumption. After the merit system has been introduced, shitposters and spammers like you didn't know what to do and started shitposting on how to earn merit and how it has ruined their lives. 3- sometimes this spams post if growth most cause to database error (in some sites occurs). Boy you don't know one thing about this forum. The forum becomes slow because of DDOS attacks. 14- searching process and finding useful links was been difficult for newbies.
so after launching these new systems, we see that: It is not that difficult, if you spend a little time away from shitposting, you can find anything and everything. 1- forum loading speed is increased This has nothing to do with the merit system. Rather there have been few more DDOS attacks. 2- Saving time for administrators for moderation of topics It hasn't. Again,shitposters are whining about merit system in every board. 3- resource consumption is optimized What exactly do you mean? 4- newbie users could reach their questions in with consuming low time But yet they chose to whine. 5- the risk of site downing is decreasing and so on. You're just repeating the same thing over and over again. So let me also repeat it and remind you, merit has nothing to do with the forum's loading speed directly 16- the useful posts and topics increasing Sadly it hasn't yet. It's the same but hopefully we can see such in the future. but I think; the crackdown on merits may lead to some problems:
1- some users will be Discourage from bitcointalk forum Then let them stay the fuck away. Remember that these are the ones who ruined the forum with shitposting in the first place. 2- If someone that he wrote a high quality and original post, did not catch merit, may be left the group Yeah sure they'll do that. You don't analyze things well. 3- some people will work on account trading for taking profit. Let them do, they shall face consequences.

I've got a great solution - I use the ignore feature. If I put you on ignore, then I won't be able to award you with any sMerits. Currently my ignore triggers are - - Posting a whole reply in a non-english language on an english board. - Including over-sized embedded graphics - Begging for merit - Posting garbled random english words - Large blocks of text with no paragraph breaks - Oversized or coloured text, and formatting to expand the length of your post. These are purely personal criteria, and I have adopted them to enable me to scan threads quickly. I think, it is necessary to determine some law for merits and so Admins could merit good accounts periodically |
