This is cool, but with such a non-stability of the price of the crypto currency, I think it is not profitable for them to receive it. Today, one price, and tomorrow woke up less than 2 times. Shocked

Wow, its good to hear about that. He became the first athlete to be paid in crypto. I think that is because he is under the sponsorship of ONG Social. However, that could be a good news at the end, even though the crypto couldn't be at high price at the moment. I hope other athletes follow the steps done by  Ted-Jan Bloemen. And the crypto sponsorship should be widen up to cross online game competition.

It should be profitable, the price is going up some. All the Olympian needs to do is hold the coin and that's it.

It is good to see someone gets paid in crypto currency, but by looking at the heading i really thought the athlete is getting paid by bitcoin,it is really hard to get sponsors for winter Olympic athletes and he is getting paid in some new tokens,it is good for him as he is the first athlete to get in that coin, either way it is a good start and hopefully we will see more.

I agree - this is very good news! If all athletes are transferred to salary in bitcoin, then this will be a very serious support for the development of bitcoin and other currencies! The main thing is to start paying salaries to football players to see where they then spend such big money!)))

This is good news for both crypto-community and the athlete himself.
Never heard about ONG so far by the way...it looks to be a very little project, with low volumes, only traded on etherdelta. Not exactly the top of cryptocoins...

Olympic gold shines twice brightly when it supported by crypto gold. Wink
IOC now should split rewards like:
Gold - reward in Bitcoin
Silver - reward in Ethereum
Bronze - reward in Litecoin
4th place - smth like Doge coin Grin

Good news, today cryptocurrency reached Olympic games industry! Smiley
Speed skater Ted-Jan Bloemen gets paid in cryptocurrency

Reading the news is a good one though because to a large extent, its bringing some level of publicity to crypto community but its still not addressing the bone of contention and not going to be any different from the series of celebrities that have come out to declare support for one crypto currency or the other.

The publicity he is trying to garner is already there and his actions to me is more selfish because whether the results come or not, he is already taken care of. What really matters that people are interested in is the security of their funds and the guarantee that they won't wake up tomorrow to realize that their entire wealth has gone. Until then, every form or celebrity campaigns are just cosmetic approaches.

I think events when someone, that is present in media, use Bitcoin or cryptocurrency for their business is very important.

Rapper 50 cent did something similar in 2014 and back than it didn't matter that much. But fast forward to 2018 the same news is well received.
Of course the price is more serious now, but still its a great breakthrough.

Smart guy, I wish my boyfriend would be like that! Smiley
Seriously, than more publicity like this crypto gets, than better it is, but it's a very complicated and not user-friendly thing to get into at the moment :/

This is part of the growth of cryptocurrencies in the world. Little by little it is introduced in all sectors of the population: in industry, commerce, tourism, and now in sport; Surely soon it will cover health, culture and other sectors of the population.

It's not easy to deal with the transactions and wallets today, but we are just 10 years from the beginning of crypto.
In next 10 years we will start to use it every day Smiley

Ok, I do not want to be a downer here, but what happens if this athlete gets his payment in Crypto and this coin drops to

zero. Looks like this is not payment in Bitcoin, so the chance is high that this might fail. We do not want the media to report

that a world class athlete got paid say $100 000 at the time and after a year, when he cashed out..... the value dropped to

$100.  Roll Eyes

That's very exciting. Is is the first time Bitcoin is officially used during a worldwide event? I think it might be a great promotion for Bitcoin, especially if others will take up the initiative, who knows, maybe this year Oscars will have something associated with cryptocurrencies.

This is definitely excellent promotion for crypto. Hope to hear more of such positive news related to crypto and Olympic games.

Wow, I didn't expect that. I think some of them athletes have already set their eyes on the cryptocurrency market, at least those who have signed up with getting paid through cryptocurrencies. However, as I know, that may be an incentive from their government because athletes join the Olympics  to represent their countries are actually not getting paid for it. So having read that they accept cryptos as payment, then that means whatever country they are coming from, is showing their support on embracing the market, which is an even better news.

Thats awesome, but it will be more great if that athlete get paid with reliable cryptocurrency such as bitcoin or ethereum, not just some cryptocurrency just newly born and have no value. it has value but with really low volume.

That would be great; however, they are pricey to even be considered. I think that the so called payment they are getting is also a means of promotion for whatever developer or company is backing those coins. By getting their coins in the hands of those athletes, which are known world-wide, it could give them great traction to promote their coins and have more people talk about it, and hopefully, invest in it as well. I don't think the athletes are giving too much attention with that because I would think that they don't bother themselves with the cryptomarket, in general.
