And if anyone who has been with Kano for all of 2017 (or before) would be willing to sign up and upload your miner reward data, I can create a CDT (Coin per Day per Th) for the last year between Kano and Slush.  I have the data for slush since they started, but need the data from the mining rewards to get the effective pool hash rate for Kano to compare.  I started in late July, so my rewards do not have enough data.  Thanks to anyone willing to help out and thank to everyone checking out the site.
I would like to thank Sonny for helping us out with complete 2016 and 2017 stats.  The Yearly CDT for Kano and Slush is on the minergain home page.  Thanks and I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

This is vomit inducing.   What say your hard drive got destroyed and all your passwords/wallets were on there and now you have a total loss?

That happens to me right before April every year, just my luck..  along with all my gold sinking in a boating accident.. sorry, nothing to see here - move along

That's why you have a backup.
And if you did report it as earnings before and everything crashes, then you report it as a loss later on.  Yes, you are out some interest, but the piddly bits that get paid by bank accounts these days are hardly worth fretting over it.

This makes me want to vomit just thinking of having to report to the IRS. I need to meet someone that is experienced in tax law and crypto so I can make sure I do things right, or at least as right as possible. I'm going to be saving all of my electric costs over the year. It just makes me have to nervous shit thinking about dealing with all of this.
I am totally green on all this, but my accountant shared the following reposted document.

I think there is a chance you could let is slide for 2017, but here was a reply I made regarding being stupid to report...

I agree on that, but I'd still have to have an extra pc with awesome miner running 24/7. That's why I'd prefer to get the mail directly from the pool.

Or you could do https://ckpoolmonitor.zachmonroe.com/ or https://www.minergain.com/

For a a lot less than 1% fees

Thanks Nazzer.  Just to clarify - minergain is a free work of love for the crypto community that still has a ways to go.  I have the code to monitor workers for a few pools (slush and kano primarily) but have not put the email / text alert for workers going down, but I can add that next week (I 'play' with this on Mondays and Tuesdays).  I finally got rewards with converted dollars at the time of the block working this week for anyone interested.

Cool!!
Thanks for the BTC to $ conversion! Does that use the price of BTC on the date of the reward in the calc?
GREAT Work!

Mine on!
Yes it uses the average price for the day (worst case).  If the reward is in the past few months, the BTC price is gathered every minute (it gets averaged out to 5 minutes after a couple days old).  In most cases it will be the pretty much the price of BTC when the block is found.  I may offer different ways to calculate this in the future (when it gets to your wallet, etc), but this is one of the ways that the IRS recommends you report this if you want to write off your power, equipment and other costs.  So what minergain reports is your income and you already have your costs I suspect.  Then when you convert your BTC to your bank, take the difference of your final bank dollars minus what you reported and that is your long term gain (or short if less than 6 months).  Obviously this is still the wild west as far as "if" and "how" you report, but this will make it much easier if you decide to.

Also, I have daily dollar to about a dozen other international currencies for the past year, so if anyone needs that, let me know and I will get that implemented sooner than later.  You can see the list on this page: https://www.minergain.com/all_virtual_prices

I can't believe I keep doubting this pool. I am a total idiot. I'm still new to this and have slowly gone from 1 S9 to 3 over the last couple of months. Being new I am just in such a hurry to feel like I'm doing the right thing and making the most money back that I can for what I've put into it. In doing so I'm making bad decisions so I can see something each day rather than potentially waiting days or weeks for a payout. This is just not the best way...

I left thinking I was doing the right thing getting consistent payouts and it would even itself out. Yes, maybe I could make more on Kano at the end of the month but Slush would be close enough I wouldn't mind getting a little less for consistency... I looked back at the big months on Kano and thought... wow there were some really big months but they had a lot more hashing power on those months. I thought to myself they only found 10 blocks in December and the hashing is down considerably from mid of last year. I thought, I thought, I thought too much...

If only everyone were half as analytical. Welcome back.
I think all miners "try" to be that analytical but it is really complicated to get a real number for the past.  And yes, the past is the past and it makes no impact on the future, but it does give you the "what if".  It is really complicated to calculate, and even more tricky to keep up with the real numbers.

That is why I created the CDT (Coins per Day per Th) stat on the minergain site.  mtaboneweb, I have had nobody verify those stats and you seem like just the guy to do it!  if you want to spend a few minutes checking my calcs, please pm me and I will get you the raw data.  Speaking of raw data, since the Kano api does not share rewards, the only way I can compute the numbers is to paste rewards data into the site.  I am using my own each time, but I started mining in late July, so can only do 3 month stats yet (soon to be 6).  I would love to get a yearly stat so if anyone has been mining with Kano for more than a year, please create a minergain account, set yourself up in the pools section then click on the monitor tab then rewards.  Select the Kano pool and upload your rewards.  Once I get more data, I will add a yearly CDT on the site since I have slushpool's data since they started.  Already the numbers are heavily swinging towards Kano, and I think that the yearly one will be even more confirmation to all of us here.

Thanks and Mine on!

I signed up yesterday to see what you were all about but couldn't get the rewards to upload. Literally just tried again and no bueno.
it is uploading - just not giving the results yet.  Give me 30 minutes and I will get a "rough" display of the rewards table.  Oh, and in case I did not mention it recently, this is free - and not my full time job - so it is pretty rough yet!

did anyone order through bitmain on the last s9 batch and see how the USD wire transfer worked??   Specifically how much time do they give you to transfer the money to them?  half hour? ahahah  Banks are closed!

Just so I know If I should do a BCH or USD wire to them if I have enough time, the exchange rates fluctuate so much its sometimes 200-250 more than straight USD sent to them.

Its gotta be more than a half hour for the USD though.

I had an order fail a few months ago because the bank of New York bank had a block on that company.  And 'that company' has such terrible customer service that there was no way to get them to change it to virtual.  So if you really want your devices to have a chance, my experience is that it best to stick with virtual payments.

I am so confused... I did check Shift Graph page and that little red line is at the verrrrry bottom. Maybe because I just started mining..? Like 2 hours ago..? And Slush in the meantime scored 4 blocks since then lol.
First off, welcome!  If we find a block right now, you will not get much of anything for 2 hours of work.  In two weeks you will see huge rewards compared to slush.  Check out the home page on minergain dot com.  You will see a stat for CDT which is Coin per Day per Th.  With that, you can compute where your reward "will be" when you are fully "vested" with your 5ND.  The week is the last 7 days, month is the last 30 and quarter is the last 90.  This gets adjusted once per hour based on all the blocks found.  As you see, the CDT is going down on slush and up on Kano.  That is because there are so many miners on slush now compared to a month and quarter ago.  And the quarter for kano is low because there were two 800%+ blocks in October which Kano tells me that he has never seen before in a month.

So yes, the 4 blocks may have paid you some small fee, but it totally is worth it to switch...  Just be patient and mine on!

Hey guys can anyone please tell me what is the HS code for the Bitmain APW++ power supply for me to be able to import into USA?  I want to buy 26 units but I don’t know the HS code.  Huh

Thanks!

Anyone?
If you have not got the answer, this has details on miners in general.  Not sure about power supplies.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=620682.0

Here was another article talking about magna power supplies that should get you close.

Harmonized (HTS) Code / Customs Tariff Code
MagnaDC: 8504.40.9540, Power Supplies (rectifiers and rectifying apparatus) of a rated power output exceeding 500 watts
MagnaLOAD: 8533.40.80, Other, Electrical resistors (including rheostats and potentiometers), other than heating resistors; partsthereof
Export Control Classification Number (ECCN)
EAR99, Under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Commerce and not listed on the Commerce Control List

When I have imported, I google Harmony code and a often description of what it does.  Saved myself a couple thousand that way one time with our pc-2-tv.net devices.

So that puts us over slush for the week by more than double (.00034388 BTC per Day per Th/s versus .00015141 at this moment) and a chunk more for the last 30 days (.00018869 versus 00017036).  Almost there for the quarter even with 2 800+% blocks in October.  You can follow this yourself on the homepage of minergain.  Thanks to everyone who stuck through the tough times - it will be turning soon I suspect.  Mine on!

So I am out in the country in Wisconsin with 140 acres of land, 12 pairs of fiber coming to my house (I currently have dedicated 50/50mb business service through ATT at a grand per month for my home business), a single phase 320kva transformer (in-ground wiring) with a 200A panel in my house and another mostly empty 200A panel in an "outhouse" that just protects the panel.  I was going to build a barn and needed to revise the budget when we built years ago. I have a small (20x40ft?) non insulated metal shed with concrete floor about 50 feet beyond that with a 60Amp panel that is mostly unused.  Super easy to get the full 200 Amps into that building.  My son grabbed about 10 full size server racks that he cannot give away (7.5 foot tall).  I had the thought of building a small building around my outhouse that was specifically designed for miners, but by the time I am done it probably would be 30k+.  So another option is to figure out how to retrofit the shed.  Obviously 200 amps will not do a ton of S9's, so no matter what, it is a small scale operation.  I also had the thought of putting up solar panels and we even have hills to put up a wind turbine - although we are only a couple miles from the interstate where planes follow, so probably some issues getting permits for a full size one.  Again, a big investment when mining may disappear in a couple years?  Anyway, if interested in discussing, feel free to PM me and I'll get you my contact info.  Or you email me through the minergain site links.

As a resident of The Cheddar Curtain, your specs don't match reality here, or North.

AT&T doesn't run "12 pairs of fiber coming to my house"...

Also, "a single phase 320kva transformer (in-ground wiring)" makes no sense, in a Electric Utility context for a Single Family Home.

THEN, there's "we even have hills to put up a wind turbine - although we are only a couple miles from the interstate where planes follow"...

WHAT do hills have to do with wind turbines and last I checked, as a pilot, we navigate using charts and coordinates, NOT by following "the interstate"?

Here's a thought. Put Solar Panels on your "140 acres of land", let your mining gear warm up the "non insulated shed" this Winter and MINE ON.

I laugh when I read this stuff.

Telco's put in 24 fibre becuase it is the smallest they have as a cable.  They treated it as commercial becuase it was not on a residential street with multiple houses.  The commerical ALWAYS gets 24 fibre, and they use 1.  The cost you wrote before 1000?  I think you getting robbed. I can get 150/150 symetrical for 100-125 cnd.

As for the SIZE of your transfromer...  it may be a 320 KVA   Is it a nice big green box about 4x4 feet? or is it a small round one and is probably 32.0 KVA?  Becuase  the 25 KVA one I have behind my house also powers about 12 homes.  Granted you said the guy asked for more power at that location, so it may be that big.

As for the wind turbine agruing going on that if planes follow the interstate... umm, well, not for IFR ( instrument flight rules) but for VFR ( Visual Flight rules) they may indeed use that as the VFR corridor.  They may in fact have zoning regulations if they are near an airport for max height.  I have one on my land titles, and the other DUMB one, Is there has to be a certain amount of insulation in the attic - to quiet down the sound of the planes.  So YES a tall turbine with blades that reach 500 feet above the ground and more than the surrounding ground level around the turbine may in fact be an issue....  it all comes down to if the guy giving the permit does his job and goes OH  flight path, and then does what he needs to do.

SO, yes, please do not argue points that you do not understand fully.  The OP just merley said that he had an oppurtunity and space to put in more miners.  Judging by the number of panels and service that may be there, I would think that it is mostly accurate, but doesnt warrnet an attack on him for what he posted,  just move to the next post..  arguing about if aircraft use roads as routes.... yes... they do, you will see this in mountain passes for VFR routes.  LEARN THEN COMPLAIN.
Thanks AerialGopher .  I almost deleted my response since it really does not matter at all since Bink blew any chance for help.  I always do my best to be honest and this rubbed me the wrong way.  Yes, it is a 4x4 green box that is about 3 feet tall (roughly).  Too cold (and it does not matter) to go out there.  Yes, I am paying $1k per month for 50mb symmetrical dedicated just about to Chicago.  I was running a T1 line for $350 a month though and havng a residential line run in was $50k+ up front install fees (ouch), so this is well worth it.  Plus I write it off.  Once my contract is up in a year, I'll bet there will be many other opportunities to reduce that cost.

Anyway, thanks again.

I may have the kva wording wrong on the transformer, but it is a 320 <something> (the utility was just out to replace my meters). The house was built by a commercial contractor and we have half a dozen panels in the house with generator/ups, etc.  This single family home is also my digital signage business plus we had planned for a big barn so when we built, we had them put up what was needed for two 200A panels.  As for fiber, I too was totally shocked when ATT dug in the 12 pairs for free (in about a month no less) with only a 3 year contract!  And the Ciena and router gear also is overkill for a 50Mb circuit.  I figured it would be a single fiber.  I did tell them that since there was 140 acres here, there was a "slim" chance of a housing development but not likely.

Yes, wind turbine likely is not going to happen, but I suspect there are zoning issues (with potential faa guidelines) that I have not checked into.  I just know you need wind and my thought is having a turbine on top of a hill may allow for more versus the valley that our house is in which is 250 feet lower.  Sorry for mentioning that since I am clueless on it.  As for my miners, they are making my normally heated garage nice and toasty this winter with air intake from the frigid outdoors - so I'm good.

Happy almost new year to everyone and yeah for the block this morning.  I was out moving my daughter when the block was found (15 below Fahrenheit - fun).  I wanted to apologize to everyone that received dozens of emails / text messages alerting you to the block.  Obviously I have a coding issue to fix and after a terrible time figuring out how to get in from "the outside world", I eventually turned off the alerts.  In any case, I sincerely apologize for the snafu and will fix that before turning the alerts back on again.

Smiley  Just don't get discouraged when you don't see much in the way of payouts in the first few found blocks - it takes a few weeks to fully ramp up.  (I'm still working on getting to full level myself.)
very true.  Just remember that it is a benefit to keep pool hoppers from popping in, taking your reward and then leaving again.  Also, your ramp up time will pay you on the ramp down time if you ever leave.

Is #xnsub needed? I know some pools require it.
I do not use #xnsub.  Mine is just stratum+tcp://nya.kano.is:3333 first and stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 second
based on your ping stats, I think you would set it the same.  kano.is is probably using a cdn..

Assuming a more normal block size of about 16 it would be closer to about 0.00060/TH which would be 0.0081BTC for an S9.
Using a worst case of 8 blocks a month that is an estimate of somewhere between 0.06 - 0.08 BTC per month for each S9.
I posted my actual reward page for December so far with one S9 miner.  You are not wrong - I have received .07313722.  Actually the more "normal" block size is around 14... Obviously as difficulty continues to increase - who knows where this could go.  But luck can go either way no matter what the difficulty.  I like the 35 blocks in a month option. Lets shoot for that in January!  Heck, lets do it in December!
