Interesting
I hope there's some mustache twirling going on right now...

Definite mustache twiddling going on. Looking like a second batch is pretty doable at this point. Just going over everything on our end to make sure it can happen. Seems like there is interest though. Shouldn't be too hard to fill out the next 3000. Stay tuned.

Well I just saw Punin post this... http://www.bitfurystrikesback.com/product/bitfury-reel-fifo/. Not sure if this will make bitfury boards profitable for Barntech though. I'm still hopeful the bit fury prices will go down!

Delivery starts 20th of September!

I saw that too... I'd be willing to purchase a couple of higher priced boards just to get some hashing going on.

They work out to about US $30 each.

$400 a board for earlier in October isn't bad... I'd certainly be interested in a couple.

Interesting

Hey guys.

Just to clarify on the power front. Each 8 chip board will run at about 20W at full tilt, less if you are not overclocking it to superpowered turbo mode. So a fully stacked miniplane will come in at 80W or less. You won't need a hugely intense PSU to run them.  Smiley

In terms of an update on our progress, we're still bashing away in coding land. We're working on the firmware as we speak. Talking the BitFury dialect of SPI is a delicate task. We're also talking to the cgminer people about device drivers, in particular making sure we get well streamlined work/nonce buffering so that we get the most out of USB comms. Getting this part right may well make a big difference to the hashrate we can get from the chips. Also, one of our community is working on a web based UI for cgminer that will have specific Drillbit integration so tweaking your boards will be nice and easy.  Grin

So does Hashfast have any plans for selling bare chips? I haven't seen anywhere where that was their intention, other than for the protection plans. I'd love to see them throw bare chips on the market at a nice price. I certainly like variation on the market as far as chip designs.

As far as i know they aren't. I have written to them asking and they haven't responded yet. Would be nice though.

Hey guys. Yes we're still working away at getting something good happening for the next project. VMC and COINTERRA are still on the table but now also very interested in these:

Barntech,

How are the test boards going?

Hey Zeek,

Latest update is we're currently hammering away at the firmware and cgminer side of things. Making good progress but still a bit to go. The chips communicate in a unique way and there isn't much documentation out there, so it is quite a bit of work getting it all nutted out, but it's coming along. Current estimate on getting the board up and running is potentially the end of this week, or some time next week. I will of course let you all know as soon as its all happening.

Cheers

Hi Barntech,

Great to see everything is progressing well with the drillbit family of boards.

Just wondering whether you'll be offering the thumb blank boards for sale as well and at what price?

Cheers
Nexus

Hey Nexus.

Yes. Blank thumbs are available. $10 each.  Smiley
188  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [NEW OPPORTUNITY - First Avail. Reserv.] Cointerra/Hashfast Bare Rig Group Buy on: September 09, 2013, 02:24:30 PM
Both sound great guys!!

2. $3200 500GH/s CoinTerra unit; Could be late Dec./Jan.

3. $650 32GH/s unit: also a Jan. timeframe but possibly the easiest of the 3 options.

As long as a backplane & raspi are NOT mandatory for these units to work.A nice option to consolidate the units though,if you want to spend the extra BTC  Wink

A USB cable & some sort of standard ATX PSU plug to keep it simple....oh & BFG or CGminer compatibilty too.

Bringing Barntech in on this Huh  AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!  Cheesy

I have a few friends with cash (I'm waiting on my 70GH of units,Avalon & Drillbit, hope to roll my BTC into something like this) looking to buy a KNC,I'll see if I can get them to hold on for this,if your serious  Wink

Keep us posted!!!!!!!!  Cool

Yes, the idea for the design for the VMC chips would be simple, basically the Drillbit System pimped out for the new chips. Standalone boards that can be stacked if desired. The Cointerra thing would be pretty different, single chip boards that would require serious cooling, most likely not stackable, though at that size, you wouldn't really need to.

Nice to see that there is some decent interest in this. More soon.

Maybe a new thread should be started for discussion regarding future plans so we can keep this one on track?

Agreed. Lets keep this thread about this group buy and the bitfury drillbit hardware. For discussions about other stuff there is already this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=288101.new#new for now.

Hey all

Looks like there is decent amounts of interest in this stuff. Good to see, and thanks everyone for putting yourselves forwards offering assistance. Feels like we could do something cool here. I definitely do like the 500-600 mark for smaller more accessible miners more than the larger offering from Cionterra. I totally agree that getting this stuff moving quickly is ideal, but at this point it seems we're looking at January for either of these chips. As far as i can tell, none of them actually exist yet. I have a phone meeting set up with the guys from VMC on Monday so i will be able to get more details then and share them with you all. If i feel comfortable with their vibe, then it may well be worth moving quite quickly to secure early chips. Bobsag, your offer of some upfront cash may well come in useful to just place an order without having to wait for a group buy to fill up, though i do think we'll be able to reach the batch price quite quickly. 500 chips into two chip miners is 250 miners. I will personally want a decent amount, probably around the 50 mark and i imagine the rest of you would put your hands up for some, so in the end we would maybe only need to find takers for 100-150, which i think will be very easy to do. As always, the epic rising difficulty is a worry, and who knows where it will be by january or february, but i guess its probably still worth taking the plunge. Davmp and Zombei, it could be cool, not quite yet but maybe soon, to start looking at getting a solid order form on a separate page of our site for this stuff. Slightly premature right now, but would be good to have it ready to go from the beginning. On our end, we are still thoroughly tied up in our Bitfury stuff and want to wait at least until we have our prototytpe hashing before taking on any other projects. That should be up and running in the next week or so.

Cheers

Also, just put up a photo of the hub for stacking two full miniplanes, and updated prices for bare boards. 1-5 for $25 each, 5+ for $20 each.  Smiley

If any ASIC miner hosts need vetting, I offer vetting to both Miner Hosts (and new Group Buy Coordinators) as a free service to the community & because we all know John K. is busy as F. I've vetted or am in the process of vetting 5 new GBCs & several miner hosts around the world. You can send me a PM for more details or see Post 6 of my Services page.

Vetted hosts can either be part of my Miner Host Matchmaking Index or they can go solo after that. Being vetted means that you willingly share your ID with a trusted forum member as a means of establishing trust; essentially someone knows who you are & where you live if you're evil or fraudulent.

And believe me: there's nothing more I'd love to do then hand over some scammer to the cops.  Wink

I do recommend that any miner hosts upgrade their insurance (or go buy some if they don't already have renters/home owners insurance), their security, and in certain circumstances such as hosting CT IVs you may want to even go secure a real world surety bond to assuage customer apprehension.

Besides escrowed GB shares/purchases for those that want it, the vetting and arranging of hosting is yet another service I can offer to any bare rig ASIC rig GB & Hosting plan Barntech wants to work on so he can focus on doing what he does best.

I think it is great to have more "John K.'s" but I also think we need deeper protection. We are essentially talking a business here and it needs transparency. Seeing pictures, video, etc. would put a lot of us at ease and would greatly assist the police should anything shady happen. Documents can be forged and such, so we need to be careful. It aids the GB organizers, the builders, the participants as well as people acting as Escrow agents.

In other words, we need some kind of Open Source project regarding all this - a set of generally accepted instructions, to help weed out untrustworthy people. Things like people hosting machines in their home should have theft insurance, etc.

It's about sharing

Yes, if we did go down the route of large miners requiring hosting, we'd have to sort it out properly with contracts, insurance etc to make sure everyone involved feels confident and safe about having something they partly own sitting in somebody else's house or office.

This is part of why i like the idea of local hosting so that people can actually meet eachother and visit their miner. The idea would be to create a bit of a community around it rather than just a business agreement and bitcoin trickling into peoples wallets. If it did turn out that your host was far away, perhaps google hangouts or skype or something could work. Basically it would be about joining forces in a positive, communal, fun and transparent way. No more shady characters lurking on web forums. We are have a shared passion / hobby / interest. So why not share in real life as well as on the internet. On Wednesday this past week, i met some of our members in person at a Bitcoin meetup in Sydney and it was great experience to actually meet people for real. Highly recommended  Wink

Very cool Barntech!!!!!!!!! You need some smokestacks on that thumbs dude & racing stripes too  Cheesy

Racing stripes DO add 3-5 mhash/s, it's true.

Yes, i am aware of the hashing benefits of racing stripes.  Wink May just get them on there for the final production run. Or polkadots? Though the hashing boost from those isn't quite as decent.  Cheesy

Interesting about thailand. Shows you how stuff gets blown up huh?

Here's the fully assembled thumb.  Grin

Great work! Now get that thing hashing!

A general comment about Barntech:

He has been a dream to deal with via PM, I had issues with PayPal a few times (as well as getting in JUST before the close of regular sales). Great communication and showing some awesome progress in a short time.

Pity there probably will not be any further boards for sale at the great price we (some of us) got during the original pre-sales round.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers man.

Thanks for your kind words. It has been a pleasure getting the project happening and having such continued excited input from everyone. Yeah its a shame the price suddenly changed and we couldn't keep everything rolling, but it's also kind of cool because it is forcing us into getting the next one happening, which is also exciting. Seriously considering the Fast-Hash-ONE chips from VNC http://virtualminingcorp.com/shop1/index.php?id_category=8&controller=category. I'm liking the vibe of these more than the Cointerras at this point, mostly because they are smaller and so more accessible to smaller scale miners. We have got a datasheet yet, but potentially we might be able to build these into our existing hardware, meaning that the current miniplanes will also work for the next boards. This wouldn't be possible with Cointerra. That said, still considering them too.

I am tempted by Zefirs chips, but they are over double the price so would still mean that we would have to charge quite a lot more for the boards, which doesn't feel quite right. Will keep everyone updated on plans for the future.  Grin

Cheers

Hey Zombie.

Sounds good. Always nice to have spare hands and brain to keep on top of all this stuff. Sounds like it could be good to see what we can do together. It would be nice to start seeing what kind of interest there is out there for either a fast-hash-one based project http://virtualminingcorp.com/shop1/index.php?id_category=8&controller=category, or a cointerra based project http://cointerra.com/shop/

They are both offering chips for what looks like a January delivery. The smaller size of the fast-hash-one chips is more appealing to us at this point as they can still be accessible to smaller scale miners, and most likely can be built into the expandability of our current equipment. If you are reading this and would be interested in either a $3200ish contera 500 GH/s miner, or a $550ish 32 GH/s miner, please speak up and it may come to pass. Wink

Thanks for the vote of confidence Barntech! I've got some ideas (that I will also share) on how to run a small and efficient operation. Monitoring and compact cooling would be pretty key to keep costs down!

Speaking of the Cointerra chips, I've heard Hashfast may be selling bare chips as well. I know they plan to for the 250TH/s mine they are sourcing. It may be a good idea to contact them and see if they have any plans for additional sales. Has anyone else heard anything about hashfast and bare chips?

EDIT: Speak of the devil... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=288101.new#new

I have made contact with hasfast and not heard anything back yet. Could be a possibility if they do end up offering chips.
199  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [NEW OPPORTUNITY] HashFast Bare Rig Group Buy on: September 05, 2013, 06:52:30 AM
I would be interested in a barebones hashfast chip based rig if the right PCB maker made it.

Have you considered approaching Barntech with the idea? They seem quite open to new designs using their Drillbit system and they seem like really stand up guys to deal with!

Interested. We are thinking about doing a Cointerra thing, but hashfast would work too if there are chips available. I have tried making contact with both and not heard back so far. Have you spoken with or had email contact with either company?

Currently our plan is a Cointerra GB with the option of hosting in small nodes spread around the place, or full units if people want them. Already have some interested parties.

Cheers.

i believe there is no waiting list , but if there is
put me for waiting list as well , 2 8chip boards , thank you

There is currently no waiting list. Further Bitfury chip purchasing is looking very unlikely at this point unfortunately. If i can work something out, i will acknowledge the waiting list requests posted here, but at this point it's most likely just going to be one batch. A shame. If we do get a Cointerra GB happening, you will of course all be invited to join that.  Smiley
