181  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SOLD OUT] ASICMiner Cubes. 30-38gh/s - USA - 1 BTC - Price protection! on: December 16, 2013, 04:23:40 AM
Does anyone had advice for trouble shooting a bad blade in a cube?  Or is it even possible?  The bad blade sometimes works but most of the time it will cause the entire cube to turn 'xxxx'.  I switched power supplies and did a long troubleshooting process to ID the bade blade.  I looked for any obvious damage but couldn't find any.

I should have posted my troubleshooting process...

Took the cube apart.  Labeled blades 1-6.  Removed all blades and tested each blade in each port on the main board.  That took a bit.  Finally found the bad blade.  Tested the cube with the bad blade in each of the 6 ports to confirm.

Exactly - classic troubleshooting. Labeling and keeping track of what slots they were tried in will narrow it down. Don't change more than 1 variable at a time. That was the mistake I made with the hub issue. I know better but took a shortcut.

I would like 1 blade. I would have to wait for coinbase to transfer in. Let me know if that is acceptable.
Thanks

How are these coming in from china? air i presume.

boat would be too slow for the rapid pace of btc. Maybe shipping is causing the issues as I can see them being packed like that as they would have to be tested ("QC mining ;-)  )

I'm an admitted hardware geek and I like to take pictures of them.  I took some while taking apart and prepping my Cube.  I might as well share it.  I hope CrazyGuy doesn't mind:

Thanks for the pic's !!!

Next time anyone has theirs apart I would like to see a pic straight on of the card tops meshing in the slots and of the bottom board again straight on in the slots of the bottom case.

I think that is where the problems are coming from. Asic miner put the cards in too tight in the slots. So any kind of pressure to the case top or bottom is putting pressure on the heat sinks and popping the cards/heatsink screws out. They probably should just flat pack the cards and let a little assembly be done on receipt or increase height of case and use a springy plastic grid retainer with groves to hold the card tops like better workstation class pc's have. Keeps the cards in their slot, but has enough give to accommodate shifts in the motherboard and or heat expansion.

Do you need to connect cube to a computer to run it, or is this like those independent mining machines ?

You can run it that way to get going but I suggest at some point running it through a stratum proxy as it will speed up hashing and reduce the load on your router/wan.

I prefer bfgminer but I'm running OS X.8 with homebrew and I noticed a more consistent higher speed after pointing it from the pool directly to the bfgminer. The only setting to change on the blade is the server ip (your login id on the blade is ignored) which you set to the workstation running stratum (or other client). You can even set failover pools so in my case for example if bitminter is being hammered and or down, it switches to btcguild and will switch back of btcguild stutters or goes down. (setup your pools how ever you want).

Keep in mind that your workstation will need a static ip or dhcp reservation so it doesn't change.

lol... i think the issue isnt a day or 2 delay...   as my tracking info still says the package is at the same place it was dropped off last saturday... SSB ships these things Priority mail.... not parcel post....   these is really no reason the USPS should be taking this long.... its not like its a big surprise every decemeber they have extra packages....   UPS and FEDex plan for it and stuff makes it on time....

on another note....  i did order something had it overnighted......    this is how my USPS guy handed it to me today

oh that package says fragile.... its a football lets kick it around.....

Yes, Got some like that. In fact got one package that was completely open and a miracle I received anything at all ;-)

Remember that video about the stock room people tossing iPads at each other?

Somewhere in a huge USPS sorting center, people are placing bets on how many tosses it takes to "open" the corner on a box or make something that had no noise begin to rattle.

SSB will just have to move to an area with more reliable USPS  Grin

Its standard mail that is costing them money the flat rate package's are making them lots of cash. So much that they are about
to test sunday delivery for Amazon.

Got mine in yesterday and it looks great. With the fans in a push pool configuration, I can actually touch the asic chip's now.

I would space the blades apart till you get more blades.

What fans were those? Link please.

I myself had planned on using the screw terminals by the PS connection to feed fans.

Scheduled delivery says 4 days ago.....  package still showing at sort facility.... still nothing from usps.....cant get a real person on the phone anywhere.....

Only thing I would advise is lookup the main post office for where it was shipped from. Call them directly and ask them to look into it.

ive called they wont answer the phone.....   Sad

Call right at opening time. Also look up and see if there is another branch nearby, call them.

My tracking says it will deliver today as it has last couple days but with NO updates since being sorted at original location.  Here is hoping it comes today and its just a lag in the updates and not a lag in the shipping!!!

USPS tracking either works semi or not at all. Packages often arrive to me days earlier than it estimates. It depends on the post office they are dropped off at. If they don't scan it in and just toss them into the bin then its hit or miss if they get scanned during their travels.

I have noticed that when shipping myself. when ever I have personally asked the counter clerk to scan it in, the tracking shows up sooner
195  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Group Buy #23/24 AsicMiner Cube Miners and USB Hubs on: December 12, 2013, 04:51:23 PM
I once received a plastic envelope with the top part of a shipping box containing the label with my address (no contents, just the box top) and a "Were sorry" note.

USPS at their finest   Angry

FYI - shipping companies by law can not undercut USPS on shipping cost. That is why USPS will allways be cheaper.

Another Fun(NOT) fact. If you put a letter in a box or overnite envelope from another shipper etc. It must still have postage on it. Worked at a corp gig years back. mail that came in to main office and needed redirected out to other locations was bundled together in a box and shipped via UPS. Post dude came in one day and saw them boxing it up. Told them that they either needed to put canceled postage for all the letters in the box or ship via USPS and brought back a copy of the legal section that covered it.  Huh
196  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Group Buy #23/24 AsicMiner Cube Miners and USB Hubs on: December 12, 2013, 04:37:40 PM
USPS is driving me nuts!! SSB shipped my cube Saturday night and USPS hasn't updated the tracking info since that night and my cube still isn't here Sad

tracking said mine should be delivered on the 9th....   usps tracking shows no new update since the 7th....

If by some miracle it shows up on my doorstep. Ill be sure to test it for a few days before sending it on  Grin

it appears they should be shipped from hong kong as a diy kit instead of assembled.

But... There is a different kind of scam which is much worse.
Scammer buys the item. Then opens a case with ebay saying the item is broken or not as described.
You are required to tell the buyer to send it back for a refund.
The buyer mails you back an empty box.
Ebay still forces you to refund the money.

A friend sold a phone system. They said it didn't work. But what got returned was a different phone system broken.
They lost because they didn't have enough evidence to prove a swap was done.
