181  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB 131 BTC at 13.43 USD on BitFloor.com on: December 29, 2012, 04:01:30 PM
Thanks to the seller(s) who sold me the 131 BTC. If I need to buy some more I'll place a bid on BitFloor and post a WTB here on the forum. To the seller(s), if you want to sell some more, place an offer on BitFloor and post a WTS here on the forum. Thanks again.
182  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB 131 BTC at 13.43 USD on BitFloor.com on: December 29, 2012, 02:09:39 PM
I just raised my Bid to 13.43 USD for 131 BTC, cancels 13.40 USD.

I just raised my Bid to 13.40 USD for 131 BTC, cancels 13.35 USD.
184  Economy / Currency exchange / WTB 131 BTC at 13.43 USD on BitFloor.com on: December 29, 2012, 01:08:14 PM
I am bidding 13.35 USD for 131 BTC on BitFloor.com
If you are interested in selling some or all 131 BTC to me at that price just transfer your BTC to BitFloor and sell them to me. BitFloor offers free ACH (direct deposit) transfers of USD to your American checking account. So if you have a checking account in the USA you can easily get your USD after selling your BTC.

are cash deposits halted?

For now cash deposits are not available. From the blog post on December 2nd, 2012.
https://plus.google.com/109620439233076225324/posts

"Many users have been asking about cash deposits. There are no new updates for cash deposits at this time. BitFloor is working on getting cash deposits at bank branches running again and will post updates as they are available."

Good to hear!

Have ACH transfers been resumed? The bank account used to conduct them was apparently migrated about 2 weeks ago and so they were held. I had mine cancelled (Roman was very quick with this btw) and withdrawn through other means but would like to know if ACH is back up and running.

I just did an ACH withdrawal on Dec 3rd and it was credited to my bank account on Dec 5th. From the BitFloor blod Dec 2nd "ACH withdrawals are still available and continue to be free. There have been several delays recently with ACH. These have been due to backend and bank changes which have unfortunately gone on longer than anticipated. I do apologize for the inconvenience and am assured that everything is on track for normal operation starting this week."

At least my ACH withdrawal when through quickly without a hitch.

I am thinking not only is Roman TRYING to pay us back, but rather he IS paying us back. Great news! I received a little over 1.7% of my held balance back. Actions speak louder than words. Going to BitFloor to place some orders now.
188  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Big Buyer on BitFloor on: November 28, 2012, 03:21:12 AM
$12.30 Bid for 604 BTC right now on BitFloor. Looks a good price to sell at compared to the bids at other BTC/USD exchanges.
189  Economy / Trading Discussion / Big Buyer on BitFloor on: November 27, 2012, 04:52:58 PM
Right now I see a $12.16 bid for 409 BTC at BitFloor.com. Earlier he was bidding for over 2,000 BTC. It's good to see a larger order coming back to BitFloor. I like that exchange and would like to see more activity there.

And by the way, you guys wanna know what is the only thing I HATE about the WHOLE bitcoin scene? The weakest link, Mt. Gox. I hate that it is that exchange that dictates the price. We need more better unregulated exchanges, period.

Maria.

Which exchanges do you use? I would think someone who has been mining as long as you have could add a lot of liquidity to whichever exchange you choose. If you don't like an exchange, don't trade there. Vote with your bitcoins.

I have an ING Direct Electric Orange (EO) checking account. The P2P payment service is easy to use, no hassle once you have the EO account set up. Even if you don't keep any money in the EO account (no minimum balance required), transferring USD from another bank to EO to BitFloor is faster than transferring USD from another bank to Dwolla to Mt Gox. If you do keep some USD in the EO account, then transfers are even quicker. I actually like the EO checking account and replaced 1 of my other checking accounts with EO. Another comparative advantage is that P2P transfers are free and Dwolla costs 25 cents per transfer (for transfers of more than $10).

I'm 27 BTC bid for this laptop.

FYI, BitFloor support wrote to me saying that USD withdrawals via ACH are back to normal. That's good news.
194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Real life bitcoin scenario for non-bitcoiners on: October 29, 2012, 07:40:27 PM
Let's face it - we're all geeky idealists here. We love the mathematical beauty of bitcoin and its concept of true financial freedom and we try to promote it that way. But masses don't really care about any currency's fundamentals, they just want to go to a store and buy things. Wheter it's for greenback, btc or some loyalty program points, they don't care. Majority of people will never understand bitcoin, or fiat; most of them don't even know what inflation is.

Why do I write all this? I found promoting bitcoin quite hard and I think it's because my explanation of it always starts from what I personaly like about it (no central banking, cryptography). Fail. The story must be told from listener's perspective. So what would impress these people? That they can go to a store and actually buy things with btc in a simple way, like with cash.

So I would like to create a real-life scenario, step by step, to make sure this is possible. It starts with customer entering a store and ends with him leaving with the stuff he bought. I want to only include technologies that already exist or are in a final stage of development, so this scenario would be feasible lets say bu teh end of mid 2013. We can then use this story when introducing bitcoin to non-geeky people.

I'm kicking off: It's June 2013, Adam enters a store, picks up some snacks and takes it to the counter. What happens next?

If he's in the USA he pays with USD in some form. Fiat money works very well as a medium of exchange and as a unit of account. I think the main function that BTC can do better than fiat currencies is that it can, and hopefully will, serve as a better store of value than fiat currencies which lose value due to the increase in supply of fiat currency created by central banks and their fractional reserve banking systems.

Perhaps one of the large creditors that had a large amount of USD or BTC on BitFloor has some balls and wants to double down. Where's Matthew when you need him Wink
196  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: bitfloor needs your help! on: September 05, 2012, 08:33:07 AM
Here's a chance for someone to buy part or all of BitFloor. Potential investors include other BTC exchanges, large mining pools, holders of large quantities of BTC and developers of bitcoin and bitcoin related products and services or an angel investor. BitFloor did have a lot of positive characteristics prior to this hack.
197  Economy / Service Discussion / Details of Pirate's Investment Strategy on: August 31, 2012, 12:39:24 AM
Anybody have any details on what Pirate was doing? Was it just a simple ponzi scheme or something else?
198  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A strong caution to anyone considering buying Pirate obligations on: August 22, 2012, 02:40:09 PM
Why not buy someones debt, then bet the same amount you paid against Matthew? Worst case, you get your money back. Best case, Pirate pays. Can't lose.

Why does he show at "pirateat40" in some posts and "@pirateat40" in others? Is one an imposter?
200  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: August 21, 2012, 08:40:09 PM
Well if Pirate investors see Pirate posting on here to take Matthew's bet they know they are in trouble.
