181  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 24, 2014, 05:00:51 PM
The A2 is now at the Dutch hub from DPD, with a bit of luck I will get it tomorrow afternoon.

Perhaps it is, I shall remeasure tomorrow when I get my Kaze fan. That way they will be almost the same in terms of whats in the box, except for power supply.

I have also noticed that the controller board only has two pin fan headers

So a different controller as well. They don't use the output from the Hall generator anyway.
It's a little bit scary, when the fan fails it will probably take the A2Mini with it.
I've been thinking about a fail safe circuit that turns off the A2 when the fan stops or the blades get too hot.
That shouldn't be too difficult.

It has partly to do with the better power supply.

I measured the power that goes to the blades and that is ~265W for the old version.
With a good power supply it should take ~300W from the wall.
However the new version seems to take ~265W from the wall, and that is strange, maybe it is a fluke.

I think the hotter it gets the more power it consumes.

Indeed, when it goes too far you will get a thermal runaway with nice fireworks!

I have seen very strange results over here, when I measure with my power-meter it is about 350 to 370W depending upon room temperature.
I have two power-meters, both give the same result within a few Watt.
When I measure the AC current with my Fluke clamp-meter it is 2.28A * 230V = 525W.
I don't understand how this is possible, the Fluke is brand new, it must have something to do with the power factor.

I'm thinking about having a totally new case made where I can put the four blades together with a PSU in.
At the University where I used to work, they have a large mechanical workshop, when I ask these guy's they will do it for me.

I'd be interested if they want to make a few to earn some beer money :-)

I will ask them, but these things take some time.

And the numbers are in. Both new and old A2 minis running with one blade at 1280Mhz and one at 1200Mhz.

Old silver A2 Mini:  388W
New black A2 Mini: 263W

Wow! That is even less than expected.
Maybe it has something to do with the power-meter it could be sensitive to the cos-phi.
188  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 24, 2014, 10:47:03 AM
Guys, the new A2MINI is from a new factory, the previous seriously fucked up and pissed off not only you guys but us as resellers and innosilicon themselves .
Innosilicon was pursuing for compensation from that factory, but was not successful.
But what is important is that you guys get the shinny new A2MINI now, enjoy.

That is true, I will certainly enjoy it!

The case is much better than the silver one BTW. I've asked MinerEU if their supplier can supply just a case. Then I can transplant silver one into it

Nice pictures, inside is a little bit dark though.

The heat-sinks seem a little bit different.

Does it consume less power with the ATX PSU?

I still have one spare Scyte fan, this is the first thing I will change.
191  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 24, 2014, 10:26:49 AM
Ok, maybe it is policy to put in one good and one lesser blade. Who knows.
192  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 24, 2014, 10:04:33 AM
Yes my first one reports 432 and 428 cores. This new one is showing 432 and 431. My first one I can run one blade at 1280 and the other at 1200 with a reasonable amount of hardware errors. This one seems to be the same, one blade performs better than the other. Temperatures are better, simply because the air flows through the case better. I'll take some pictures shortly and get them up.

Maybe the difference between the blades has something to do with the controller.
I will try to exchange them on the controller to see what happens.
193  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 24, 2014, 09:23:44 AM
Blades are similar, haven't counted the chips. Scripta is reporting 432 cores on each so I guess they are still 8 chips.

At least both your blades are ok. My current A2 gives 432 for the first blade and 422 to 424 cores for the second.
The second blade is also much worse with respect to max. clock freq. and hw errors.
194  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 24, 2014, 09:01:37 AM
Right, well I have it now. It's certainly not the same A2 as the first one. Differences noted so far:

Black Case
Nice chrome handle on the top
Real 400W ATX PSU
Access slot for SD card in top
A nice layer of dust on the fan, and all the internals
Brown PCBs that seem thinner

Edit -  And even louder than the first one

Very interesting. I'll have to wait until at least tomorrow.

I assume the blades are the same? Or do they already have 10 chips.
Too bad I ordered 2 new PSU's and now I only need one.
Let me know the results.

I don't hope they replaced the fiberglass PCB's with Pertinax ones.

Estimated delivery date for my new A2Mini is now the 25th of june, when true that will be a lot quicker than last time.
196  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 23, 2014, 06:51:22 PM
I'll never pre-order, too much uncertainty.
Most of the time they deliver months too late or the equipment uses much more power than promised.
KnC also has a bad track record lately, when you read the KnC-Miner thread on bitcointalk you won't be happy.

My A2's won't take 100 days to ROI, but even if they do, it'll all be profit after that.

I've got a 24V Meanwell running one of my constant current LED circuits at home, been rock solid for the three years it's been running. Have to see if I can get hold of one

They are being sold everywhere, so that should be no problem.
The reseller over here has them in stock, on the Meanwell site it seems to take longer.
198  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 23, 2014, 06:31:18 PM
Capacitors have the score marks in the top for a reason, to allow them to blow when shit goes wrong.

Cheap components, cheap capacitors will mean the stress that those components can take is less. That's why your psu is fubar.

Buy a new one and get a decent one.

BTW A2 will take 100 days at 0.002 btc per MH per day to ROI, calculated at an average of 88MH/s. That's not including power costs. These units will never ROI at 10k each if you buy one now. GAW and KNC will have their bad boy units out at the end of September I reckon, even they will struggle to ROI because of all the 80-90MH units being bought currently.

But don't listen to me, I'm just a cynical bastard after pre-ordering a KNC titan and paying 12k after Vat and now KNC have dropped batch 2 by 3k! And will be shipping those just 1month after batch 1, and let's not mention that batch 1 is 250-300MH and batch 2 is 400MH with no hardware change apparently!

Only one winner in mining hardware these days, the hardware manufacturers....

There is some truth in this, i know. But I first have to see whether KnC and GAW will come with a 500Mh/s machine which consumes low power.

GAW doesn't even make miners, it is only a reseller. That guy Josh has a lot of blah blah but is a mere amateur with respect to mining.

I ordered two Meanwell PSU's they are not very cheap, but they fit in the same spot as the current one.

http://www.meanwell.nl/Images/pdf/datasheets/HRP-450-spec.pdf

They claim 88% efficiency for the 12V version.
200  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MinerEU.com A2BOX 10200 USD on: June 23, 2014, 06:12:44 PM
Chips should use 12W each at 1200Mhz, so 96W per blade theoretically. So assuming everything is efficient (which it isn't), 192W for both blades, <10W for Pi, and ~20W for fan. So should be just over 200W really

Maybe the chips take 12W each, but there is also a lot of power lost in the DC-DC converters that are powering the chips.
And I replaced the fan with the Scyte Ultra Kaze which only takes 7W. The current PSU efficiency is maybe 75% or less.
This week I will get the new PSU's which have 87% efficiency, they will consume about 50W less from the wall outlet.
And also important, less heat.
