Anyone look at the efficiencies of the later batches?
I was talking to my buddy who has a bunch of Batch 6, 4.05TH ones running at 4.4-4.5TH but only using 1150-1190Watts at the wall with EVGA 1300G2's. He told me a few were even clocked at 4.2TH when he received it from factory at 625MH.
So that works out to be more efficient than all the other batches, no? I'm talking about real world @ wall usage , not the BS they usually advertise. Maybe Batch 6's are the ones to get and Batch 7-8 is to be avoided like the plague as a LOT of them are having issues.
why was batch 7 bad? just efficiency? ive seen some getting 5.4th

Using a MultiMeter, the 2 x Dell PSU shows 12.1V even though Avalon shows 12V. Don't see anywhere on the breakout board including the document provided by Holybitcoin / Gekkoscience where I can change the voltage.
it may have an internal pot some do. I personally never opened that psu.. Here is a good example of one inside. A lot are not known till opened like phil mentioned opening PSU's. The Bitmain server PSU Goxed opened up ... and found one - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1060439.msg13156624#msg13156624 . No one even knew it was in there but by opening it up he found one and now this PSU could adjust voltage. But also if you open up a PSU be very careful... electricity can be dangerous. As someone that ran a charge from my right hang to my left hand passing through my cheat and heart listen to and read the blue bolding. BTW It felt like a hot hand squeezed my heart pretty hard. I no longer work on hot circuits for the sake of safety. even if PSU is unplugged? guess it can still be holding a charge

This is a really great article and discussion. One thing I think that was missing from the outset is that this will only work with an input voltage of 220V. It won't work on 120V (nominal) wall power.
I say this based solely on the label which suggests it won't supply enough DC power when powered from a typical 120V outlet.
Which breakout board are you using on this DPS-1200FB power supply?
Mine are all currently running on 120v, including the one that I bumped up the voltage on. are you using 2 of these per avalon then? I dont see how at 900w on 120v you can run one avalon with increased voltage to boot

I would highly recommend Oregonminers. Tom @ Oregon sent me a complimentary USB to miner cable after seeing my post here, even though I bought the miner from a different seller, which didn't include the cable with RPi kit. I wasn't able to run the miner for 3 days after receipt until I got the cable from Oregonminers. I believe they sell it directly by phone or pm.
I remember that it was also Thanksgiving weekend when they did that. I have not dealt with them but I thought that sounded pretty darn nice of him. He was doing a good dead for sure. Like seeing resellers more like that. I got my 5 avalons from them and couldn't be happier. He even texted me when the new firmware hit the website giving me a heads up

Yeah it's pretty awesome they are so active and communicating.. Unlike Bitmain

The BFL monarchs were good too, at least the ones I previously had.
Although the company in general is another story

Get these rare amazing units for sale now! We're clearing out our data center to upgrade to our own custom ASIC and are looking to sell many of our older units.
custom eh? who's the manufacturer?

How quiet are these ?
I'll need to confirm the noise they make. Somewhere between an S3 and S5.
Is it the same as the Avalon 4.1 or is it louder? its a bit louder at stock settings, the 4.1's when underclocked were dead silent

New firmware dropped my hashrate by 100gh
Even overnight it didn't really improve anything
The one unit I flashed runs at 3450gh with the avg being at 3300gh.. Running on a single Seasonic 1200w plat
This is part of reason I think having a RPI as a controller is a huge advantage. On a lot of miners that would be a pain to go back, and reset settings and such.. But with using the RPI you just need to backk it up... and re flash sd card. This is part of why I think RPI beats custom controllers. well they only released new mm.mcs firmware.. not the controller firmware so it's easy to reflash back to an older mm.mcs without having to backup the sdcard and reflash but i agree, the pi's are a good thing to have honestly though i dont think this new mm.mcs did crap, they need to give us the option to turn off smartspeed

Does this have a USB interface with the PI? I ran piles of gridseed blades on PI's and still have them with the software loaded. Guess there is a flash image for the avalon 6? I heard these are 'overbuilt' meaning VERY well built. Would an RM1000 corsair run one?
Yes there is a special adapter to connect to the RPI. Part of this adapter is a cord that you can daisy chain multiple Avalon 6's together. So hook first one in via usb, then daisy chain the other's with cable from one to the other miner. The image I put on front page is from BlockC's RPI kit they get all credit on making it DHCP and easy to set up on static from there. You just have to flash a sd card with it and put in RPI. As far as default no a RM1000 would not do. They suggest using a 1200 watt PSU. It does get around 1k watts... so at default freq no one should be using a 1k watt psu. If you lowered freq yes you can get it to run on lower watts but you lose speed so I would get a proper PSU like they suggest. I take it there are two hash boards. Can each one run on a separate psu? I have about 60 RM1000. yep.. thats how i run a couple of mine

this would make the gear better then the s-7
In what way? I've been pretty disappointed with mine so far to be honest. The only advantage seems to be the sound, and my S7 would be silent as well if I was willing to run it at the temps the Avalon6 runs at. My S7 is at 58 degrees sitting next to an Avalon that is 74 degrees. Not sure that exactly counts as being quieter... I worry about the lifespan of a miner running in the mid 70's. yeah I was curious about this as well.. do these really run this hot? the s7 has a 80c shutoff option.. and these avalons push really close to this temp.. even in a chilled server room

i heard that a new firmware is in the works which fixes the smartspeed issue

yeah I've dealt with Scott from Holybitcoin quite a bit and was always 100% satisfied, great communication and packages everything up perfectly for safe shipping

ive got 3 running at 3250gh.. wondering if its my PSU situation.. im going to mess around a bit more with them
voltage is around 11.9-12.1

How much do they sell them for?
I think they are charging $1450 same as zoomhash. not sure if zoomhash units come from blockC, but oregonmines do.. tons of blockC stickers and serial numbers all over the place.. so you know the warranty is legit from oregonmines/blockC the guys at Oregonmines told me they bought out 1/3 of blockC's initial batch

|

yeah ive got one in the living room at stock settings and its tolerable forsure
S7 in the same spot however would have my wife and kids going haywire

Lol man 0.0018% is nothing don't worry about it

I bought 5 from Matt at oregonmines
He was willing to drive over an hour to meet me in person and was a real cool guy!
Great service and to me these guys are legit, with the great service they provide and the fact the warranty on these avalons they sell are direct from manufacturer (or blockC?) I wouldn't hesitate to order more or host with them if I needed to
