181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] [888] [SCRYPT] OctoCoin ◦ The Power of Eight ◦ Don't Blink on: March 08, 2014, 06:50:06 PM
Just so everybody is aware, blocks are being found at the pools - the crons just aren't keeping up. To lower network load, some of the pools have disabled block updates temporarily. There was over 1 Gh/s on the OctoCoin network within minutes and we were experiencing DDoS attacks on one of our main seeds/nodes.

There have been nearly 1000 blocks found at FusionHash and it's a prop pool so everybody in there will receive their shares. These big launches often stumble out of the gates but the biggest losers here are likely the people that tried to solo-mine - the pools are finding all of the blocks right now.

Will continue to post updates throughout the day - it appears everything is stabilizing. We have 7 more days of the 888 OctoCoin blocks.

LOLOLO  - Exactly why you're a scammer.

1. WHY DID YOU NOT RELEASE THE WALLETS BEFORE LAUNCH IN PASS PROTECTED ZIPS

2. WHY DID YOU NOT POST THE WALLET LINK IN THE OP FOR ABOUT 10 MINS?

3. OH WHOOPS YOUR SITE GOT DDOS ON LAUNCH HEHEHEH  - - OH YEAH

SCAM!!!!!!!!

Why exactly do you need your wallet up and running before the launch?

exchange ?

I see earlier in the thread it was linked at Xnigma.com, haven't seen anything else about an exchange.
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [OCTA] Octacoin - The 8-bit Coin - Need Your Feedback on: March 06, 2014, 11:06:34 PM

Octacoin - [OCTA] - The 8-Bit Coin

Launch delayed/nonexistent while awaiting your input

Octacoin is a cryptocurrency, forked from Litecoin, made in commemoration of the 8-bit era. We (the creators: a group of friends and me) created this cryptocurrency because we really like the games of the 8-bit era, and we don't think that we're alone. We don't want that era to die, so we've made this cryptocurrency to keep it alive.

Specifications
  • Total coins: ~20.28 billion
  • Block time: 90 seconds (1.5 minutes)
  • Difficulty retarget: Every block using Kimoto Gravity Well
  • Block reward: 25,000
  • Block reward halves every 400,000 blocks (417 days / 1.14 years)
  • After ~8 years, block reward drops from ~391 to 300 instead of halving. It then decreases by 50 every 400k blocks instead of halving
  • After ~15 years, block reward halves from 50 to 25 instead of decreasing by 50
  • After ~16 years, block reward decreases to 8. After this last 400k block interval (6 million blocks total), reward reaches 0
  • No premine

Why Octacoin?
The 8-bit era was a time when games were measured by gameplay quality instead of graphical quality. This cryptocurrency, in line with our main goal of keeping the 8-bit memory alive, will be mine-able for ~16 years. Instead of early adopters having a large advantage and late adopters having nothing, early adopters will have a large advantage and late adopters will still have a chance. To implement this feature, we modified the block schedule. Instead of an exponentially decaying block reward throughout, Octacoin uses an exponentially decaying block reward only until the 8th year. After that, a linear decrease in the block reward occurs. In the two final block reward intervals, the reward drops according to our design (see Block Schedule below); mining ends after about 16 years. We hope this highlights our belief that anyone, despite their age, can enjoy the 8-bit era.

Block Schedule
Note that values here are rounded to the nearest whole number. Each interval lasts approx. 416.67 days

Premine?
Nope.

FAQ/Criticism
What is 8-bit?
The 8-bit era was a time when everything was wonderfully pixelated. It lives on today with emulators that allow people to play its games on PC.
I love 8-bit! How can I get involved?
First of all, please tell us. We can't actually know that this applies to you, it's just a FAQ.
If you share our values, the best things you can do to help are written here in list form:
  • Spread the word: You can make memes if you'd like, we know that Octacoin is ripe for them. *Please don't do anything unless we're sure we'll launch.*
  • Offer to help: If you have an idea, send us a private message.
  • Donate: If you want to help in a more financial manner, there's a BTC address at the end of this post. This option is mostly for lazy 8-bit fans who want to help but don't want to pursue the above options, and for almost-disturbingly-passionate 8-bit fans (you're among friends) who have already done one of the above options.
-----
We've taken the liberty of criticizing ourselves for you. Some important points are included in this FAQ.
Isn't this just a clone?
Yes and no. Mostly the former, but the latter as well. Octacoin differentiates itself primarily through its purpose and goals. (Admittedly, the same could be said for most cryptocurrencies.) We don't expect Octacoin to be used when buying coffee on your way to work. Octacoin does offer a more fair block reward curve than many, and we hope that this encourages users.
Are you sure there's no premine?
No premine. We know that premining is a divisive topic. We're fine with taking any risk involved.
The 8-bit era is terrible! All those pixels are unbearable!
We commend you for your rhyming criticism. Nevertheless, we disagree.
Scam?
We understand that you have no reason to trust us. That's why there's no premine. As for donations, don't send anything if you don't want to. Ultimately, we'll take the tried and true route to earning trust: Through our actions.
The logo is...it could be better.
We made it using a limited palette to represent 8-bit. We're open to suggestions. If you like pixel art, we'd like to see you're design.

Development/Donate
We've had a lot of fun making this cryptocurrency! However, we are aware of the oversaturated altcoin market. We've decided that we won't launch this cryptocurrency unless we know that someone out there wants us to. We realize that we may be suffering from groupthink, and that the 8-bit memory is dead. If you think this is a good idea, please tell us in the comments or via private message. If you'd like to ridicule us, please do so in the comments or via private message.

NOTICE
We're prepared to abort launch altogether if nobody wants this coin on the market! We want the idea to survive, and if this isn't the best medium we will not launch.

As there is no premine, we have no fund for promotion/development/etc. If you'd like to donate (BTC only until/if we launch), please send to the following address:

LOL.....I think Octocoin beat you to the punch:

Good idea. Voted.

I really like https://www.mintpal.com. Easy to use, and they seem to have had no trouble handling the crazy Mintcoin volume recently.

Until we’re there, https://xnigma.com has worked well for me. The exchange is still young, but they’re making updates all the time.

Also up at www.cryptorush.in

Why do people still mine shit like this?

Pre-mined, delayed launch, about half of the comments in these 8 pages have been people with errors with the wallet, pools, withdrawals and another 25% are calling it when it is, just a poor scam coin!  Don't waste your hash power, mine something worth while people!
189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [WTS][MRY] 35k MURRAYCOIN -Get it before Bill Murray announces the big news! on: February 21, 2014, 06:44:44 AM
You can sell them at Xnigma.com, the only current exchange that has MRY listed.  Decent volume over the past couple days as well!
190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt coins to avoid? on: February 20, 2014, 07:01:17 PM
I came here to this forum to get a NEM stake. Then, I have also been reading of other coins and buying some of them.

What I don't understand is why some Bitcoin supporters feel only Bitcoin is good. This makes no sense to me. How did you get into Bitcoin if you are so close minded. It is a paradox, right?

It's amazing to me. You were open minded, forward thinking, and joined a revolution. Then, this way of thinking just disappeared? No. It did not. I don't believe it, so this just brings me to two conclusions. You are lying. Or, you are so scared of Bitcoin failing that you are delusional.

It's impossible for this many people to just change from what they were, into what they were against in the first place. Maybe a few. But I have found that the more coins that are under your user name, the more suspect you are. Not all, but a see a trend here that's for sure.

So you are all that freaked out that these new coins will steal Bitcoins thunder!! L-O-L

So, let me give you some perspective from a new person. You look extremely transparent, and I think other new people see it too. This hurts Bitcoin!! It makes me think, and I'm sure others too, that you know some weakness of Bitcoin that I have yet to notice.

When you buy and altcoin, don't you use Bitcoin to do it. I heard some one say it is the reserve. I heard someone say that it is the king of coins. You hold Bitcoin. It is THE coin of coins. So what are you so scared of?

OK, yes, many of these coins are not going anywhere. But people can still make money some of them. Oh, I know, thinking like this HURTS the movement. Give me a break, the last thing you people care about at this point is the movement. That's beyond obvious. If I hear one more person say that Dogecoin is going to scare people away from Bitcoin I'm going to puke.
Come on man. REALLY? If Bitcoin was that weak none of us would be here and you all KNOW IT!

Also, there are going to be other coins that are going to rise to general public awareness with Bitcoin. That's just a fact. It will not only be one. It never is one. But we have a Bitcoin ATM popping up in Austin and Seattle now. I see something on Bitcoin in the mainstream media all the time now. It's a success!!

When I see Bitcoin in the media now, I always read the comments. 9 out of 10 of them sound just like you sound. They are negative and sound close minded. They have their fingers in their ears and scream NO, WHAT A JOKE, YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY. etc. They are talking about Bitcoin, saying Fiat is the only way. YOU are talking about Alts, saying Bitcoin is the only way.

Am I going to become just like you if NEM or one of the other Alts I bought happens to go big? If I do please, you heard it here first, I want you new people with one coin under your user name to come throw tomatoes. Thanks!!

agree!

I think it's just a matter of time before one of these 'alts' overtakes bitcoin.

Let's be honest if bitcoin were launched today, I don't think it would fare so well.  Single SHA2 hash, where ASIC's can dominate, and 10 minute block times are a flawed economic model.  I think it will always be around, but in this highly competitive space of growing currencies Im guessing there is one that will pass BTC.

I agree with these guys.  I'm surprised this thread wasn't flooded by more Bitcoin only people.  Just do your research on Alt coins before you pick one or a few.  Are you mining or buying?  Do you plan on keeping or selling?  There are a lot of variables to go by.  If you just started mining, I would mine profitable alts until you get your original investment back and then go from there.

In a forum like this, you will get people responding to the coins they like, have a ton of or are a part of.  Honestly no one knows what coin will blow up.  So many have been hyped.  Becareful whose advice you listen to.
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MRY] Murraycoin ▪ The Only Currency Worthy of the Name ▪ Info & Discussion on: February 20, 2014, 05:05:27 PM
I'm with MEGAman and have been pushing this coin for awhile now.  Difficulty low and the price it's going for on Xnigma.com makes it extremely worth it.  I also think it is way undervalued even going at .00001600 right now.  Get on the train while you can!!
192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are most of the POOLs owned by theives? on: February 19, 2014, 07:16:03 PM
All the pools I have been in, you can track your KH/s, see how many shares your miner has contributed to each block to determine your payout.  That payout should then be directly deposited into your account, along with whatever donation and pool fee there is.  If there are differences in these, yeah then you might have a problem.
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MRY] Murraycoin ▪ The Only Currency Worthy of the Name ▪ Info & Discussion on: February 19, 2014, 05:13:59 PM
Haha, I love it.   Look at those Murries fly out of there!
194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Premines and why they are bad on: February 19, 2014, 04:52:56 PM
Well you hit the nail on the head.

105M coin with a 3% pre-mine is 3.2M coins.  How long is it going to take most of these coins to mine that many coins? Days? Weeks? Months?

The dev will hold between 25-50% of all coins for how long?  If the coin gets listed, they completely control the price.

Any coin launched with any substantial pre-mine or shady launch just tells me that intentions with  the coins usually isn't positive.
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: hashrapid.com pool scam??? [CARBON coin] on: February 19, 2014, 03:43:20 PM
The website looks like a direct rip off of www.fusionhash.com as well.  That's pretty funny.
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MRY] Murraycoin ▪ The Only Currency Worthy of the Name ▪ Info & Discussion on: February 14, 2014, 05:26:39 PM
So, OK
one question; how much is 99450 MRY (roughly 100k) worth at current "market" price? (I realize that it's not existant, can't load that site you mention xnigma or whatever).
I'm getting much confused with prices and some offers I keep receiving, and have came to conclusion that with 100k of coins I'm rather big holder fucker lol.

Well Fushionhash has the price at 0.00009043.  The Xnigma exchange hasn't seen much action yet, but has had trades ranging from .00001000 to .00015000.  I'm not really sure what you should price it out right now.  The KH/S in the pool keeps gaining, they seem to be in demand.
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MRY] Murraycoin - The Next Big Thing! Official Thread | Murray Bros. Foundation on: February 13, 2014, 06:38:47 AM
When MRY hit exchanges?

Wondering the same thing. I voted for it at Cryptsy but there are just so many new coins it could take a while. The vodkacoin/sodacoin guy has made about 20 new 5% premined pumper/dumper coins in the last month polluting the market. I love the concept of Murraycoin and what they're trying to do but I can't risk having it lost in the shuffle of junkcoins. Most people around here just don't care about a good dev team and a good business plan enough and I think the Murraycoin team gave them too much credit. It's all about who can dump the fastest and move on to the next coin and that isn't what Murraycoin is about. I have over 50k MRY right now and was hoping to sell about half of them to pay some bills. If anybody wants to buy some MRY I will sell 25k MRY for 10 LTC (firm.)

EDIT: Still 20k MRY left for 8 LTC 10k MRY left for 5.5 LTC. PM me if interested.

Upping your price? I'll buy them from you for your original offer of 2500 MRY/1 LTC - send me a PM. For future reference, please post all buy/sell stuff in the Altcoin Marketplace section:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=161.0

Love having people contribute to this thread - makes me realize I'm not just talking to myself in here - but we might as well keep things a bit more organized - 3 months from now somebody reading through this thread, getting up to speed on Murraycoin, isn't going to want to scroll through irrelevant wheeling and dealing.

Let me get this right, you want to buy 2500mry for 1LTC.

Current MRY is .00010343 = .0729 x 2500 = 182.25
Current LTC is .02618  =  18.45
Current BTC 704.98

So since you are able to trade on fusions exchange you are able to take the $18.45 you would give that poor sap and turn around and make $182.25 @ current market???  A $163.80 profit not to bad I must say,  better than me considering I'm still waiting to pay me electric...

Dude Phizer! You have been hashing 20K KH/S for weeks man.  You have to have a TON.....if not the most coins out of anyone, you selling any??
