Might be interested in the 5970 package. Which heatsink is on the 5970 atm?
Right now the Accelero with the Accelero VRM cooler. I was considering putting on the retail sink before shipping.

185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bug: Forum login registers as post. No posting for 20 seconds on: September 24, 2011, 09:03:36 PM
Title says it all. If you login, the forum registers this as a post and you are unable to post for 20 seconds.

This may be being used to combat spam, but it would be a simple time delay change for someone running a spam bot. Better solution is to force certain variables during registration and send anyone to moderation if they choose the default, bogus one.

188  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dont buy overpriced PCI-E raisers / extenders weight your options! on: September 22, 2011, 07:30:25 AM
I've been purchasing stuff on the internet for well over 11 years. I was in on PayPal when they were still offering $10 for new accounts. I know the alternatives.

However, I have read enough threads of people having problems with extenders that paying an extra 110% for cablesaurus's seemed like a reasonable deal. One person even purchased an extender that was soldered on backwards. Backwards! Paying $5 extra to ensure my $250 card does not let out the black genie was a no brainer.

Phones
$175 shipped - Sony Ericsson Xperia X10a (Sensuous Black) w/8GB microSD - 8.1MP camera, 854 x 480 LCD, 4" display, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 1500mAH battery, 720p HD video. Upgraded to the latest Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with Xrecovery installed. Very good condition, kept in silicon cover with OEM screen protector from day 1. Pop in your SIM card and you are ready to go. No dented corners, a few barely noticeable scuffs at the top right. Screen protector has many fine scratches, but not noticeable while in use and cheap to replace. Using SetCPU, I averaged about 5 days of battery life with minimal use. Locked to AT&T - you can purchase unlock codes online, if you want to use on T-Mobile or internationally. This is a GSM phone so will not work on Verizon/Sprint (CDMA).

The irony of condoms on a bitcoin forum...
194  Economy / Goods / Re: USER: THYDUDE IS IN THE HOSPITAL. on: August 31, 2011, 07:10:31 AM
User X is in the hospital/sick/dying/had his brain amputated/parents died/grandmother died/dog died/gerbil died. Sympathy ploy to cloud your emotions while he runs away. Old.

Anyone that has read the forum in the past few months? I mean, I remember a year ago, this was a peaceful and trusted land. We didn't need cops or guidelines, we were a small and happy community...

Then bitcoins got valued, attracting interest from every kind of person... EVERY kind of person Smiley
There are scammers on every forum. People just need to use common sense.

As for using escrow with random forum member? I don't know you. I don't know person X. It's a hassle. What if person X is a crook? Time on the forum means little - it's just a name. What seller would do that?

Ways to protect yourself:
1. Trust no one. Use an established escrow service like www.escrow.com. Problem: Not many sellers are willing to go through the hassle or fees. Not a great option.
2. Look at their feedback. If it is only a few, be cautious. If it is eBay, e-mail them through that account to confirm that it is a legit. Someone could create a forum name to match an established eBay account. Also, if it is eBay, check their feedback history to make sure it is not just filled with $0.99 purchases. Even feedback is no insurance. I have been ripped off by someone with years of history and 44 all positive feedback on eBay. Fortunately, I and another buyer recovered our money through PayPal and this virtually never happens. You have to have some measure of trust, but be smart about it. Insurance will help you out.
3. Ask them to ship first. If you have significantly more feedback than them, you have built up more trust than they have. It is a reasonable request.
4. Use Heatware. It is an established feedback system that you can carry with you anywhere on the internet. Quickly check that the feedback is legit.
5. Pay with AmazonPayments, PayPal or credit cards. All of these have a level of built-in insurance protection. Bitcoins have none.
6. Seniority on forums is meaningless - don't trust people, just because they have been around awhile. Have seen established members use that "trust" and run away with people's money. Even moderators. It takes 60 seconds to register a new account on a forum. Sometimes people get in desperate situations and are willing to rip off others.
7. No trade history and they won't ship first - how much are you willing to lose?

I was burned early on, but have lost no money from fraud in at least a decade of trading by following these guidelines.

Be safe, guys.
195  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Custom FPGA Mining Board: X6000/X6500 on: August 31, 2011, 06:33:36 AM
sorry, am i missing something? who would pay $600+ for 180MH???
Well you can hook it up to a 30W solar panel which costs another $200...  and you get free bitcoins forever? Well 0.1 BTC per day...
Cool, so you will pay it off in 2.5 years.
You should give a small discount for paying by bitcoins. Basically transfer the paypal savings to the buyer. Plus there's no chance of chargeback. So it's win-win. What do you think?
They still have to pay to withdraw from Mt.Gox/Dwolla to practical currency. Once you factor in conversion costs, it really saves nothing. The only free, major service is AmazonPayments.

You can replace the fans on the MSI with these. 2 pins, but should plug into the 4 pin connector or possibly spliceable.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835119133

MSI will also replace cards with broken fans under warranty.

If you still have the fins, they can also be superglued back on.

I'm more amazed at how much dust is on that stuff. The one fan is completely blocked! (think it's the CPU fan)
Guessing he smokes?

I want them to bring back Salsa Rios, damnit!

E-mail them and tell them you want to bring them back. If enough people whine, they may bring them back. Received a response to that effect when I whined about Salsa Rios.
