Rassah, haven't you figured out yet that these two have no idea what NAP means? I think they think we're taking a sleep break Smiley

For those who don't know, the wiki link is pretty decent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-aggression_principle

We've been discussing NAP here for a long time. Right back to the days over two years ago when the NAP proponents were going on about the injustice of violating the rights of a knife juggler practicing his art of juggling on an inflatable raft with five other passengers in the middle of the ocean with sharks circling.

Don't even make assumptions about our awareness of NAP.

We were discussing it back in the days when the NAP proponents were saying how wrong it would be to violate the rights of people who wished to walk about with rain drop triggered nuclear weapons on cloudy days.

All these descriptions suck.

Mention mining, but use the word generate. Mention crypto, but use the word secure. Do not use the word 'wallet'.

Point out the following traits:

- Secure
- Electronic payments
- Capped circulation
- Hedge against inflation
- No single controlling body
- Currently used by merchants
- Unlimited divisibility
- Huge potential for third world countries

you seems quite depressed did you though of consulting a psychiatrist.

It says something about the person when insults start coming out.

M
Oh, they already have insulted me in this and other thread already. Its only fair game.

Two wrongs don't make a right.  But three lefts do.

According to NAP, two wrongs do make a right.

I believe your logic is flawed.  Self defense is not wrong.  You attack me, my property, or my loved ones, I will defend myself.  You would be in the wrong, not I.

And if you insult someone and are wrong, then your idiocy should be pointed out by a returning insult. Thus, not only is my logic not flawed, but you are wrong. However, I will be kind and generous, and not fling an insult your way.

@FirstAscent

Yi Yi Running time: 173 minutes, maybe tomorrow...

Here's the first V's speech: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACUpr5GvVsE

I have seen that clip! It is fun. Regarding Yi Yi, yes, it is nearly three lovely hours long. And you better not watch it on a smartphone, or in the company of chatty friends. It is a film to be paid attention to, to let it seep into your soul one scene at a time, where upon you will find it is more than the sum its parts.
185  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Matrix vs Inception on: September 25, 2013, 12:12:29 AM
I personally found V for Vendetta to be a 'deep' movie and also I could relate the society to our own.

Define deep without describing specifics to V.

You must watch a lot of movies. You seem to know about every movie out there and contribute to every thread about movies. Although Vedetta was a amazing movie. You really need to be awake & concentrate whilst watching.

If you're interested in movies which require being awake and concentrating, and payoff because you do concentrate, I can suggest some. Recently, I try to focus on critically acclaimed films, old and new, foreign or not. There's a difference in such films from Hollywood studio driven material. That's not to say I don't enjoy modern Hollywood cinema, only that I focus more of my time on what I call better cinema.

You've never saw V for Vendetta?

I have the Blu-ray of V for Vendetta still in its shrink wrap from over a year ago. In the interim, I have chosen to watch other movies instead, which I'm pleased to say that I have now watched. Here's a brief clip from one such movie (directed by a director far more famous than the director of V for Vendetta). Said movie has likely given me far more pleasure than I might have derived from V for Vendetta. Here's the clip to that movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wI6LfigwYA

The clip you just watched was from a movie entitled Equinox Flower. You did watch the clip, did you not? I tell you what. I'll watch V for Vendetta if you watch another fine movie entitled Yi Yi. That's a film that has been critically acclaimed, and voted one of the greater films ever made. V for Vendetta was not voted as such. Here's the trailer for Yi Yi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F6tSorwYqw
I have to confess that I'm not a big Japanese cinema fan, I've watched a few from Takeshi Kitano, and others that I don't remember now.

That's irrelevant in this context. Kitano is contemporary, and as with all films, there are different genres. The fifties was an exceptionally fruitful period for Japanese cinema, and many of the films from that time and region are considered to be some of the most revered and acclaimed films of all time. As it turns out, the first clip I posted is from a director who has another film which placed number one on Sight & Sound poll's greatest films of all time, right above Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Another film from him placed at around number fifteen.

More to the point, by building a familiarity with those films, a certain magical thing happens as you develop an affinity for them which results in a great deal of pleasure to be gained from watching them. Furthermore, they're rather heavy in their themes - they are not light and frivolous films.

Quote
I already had Yi Yi on my to watch list, but I can't make promises.

Watch that film now. It is a masterpiece. Seriously. And I'll watch V.

According to NAP, two wrongs do make a right.

According to you (this statement you just made) self defense is wrong.

It sounds like you're trying to have a serious conversation in regard to some some simple banter. Hush now.

Only because that simple quip suggests something seriously wrong, either in your understanding of nap, or your view of defending yourself when attacked.

If you wish to engage in serious debate, argumentation, conversation, speculations, idea sharing, often free of insults, all about political systems and conditions, then it might be a possibility. I tell you what, you have my ears and dialog, if you reciprocate in serious debate, argumentation, and conversation regarding film and film criticism in some other thread.

Not at all! You hit me, I hit back!

And if you insult me, I have no issues insulting back.

But NAP is basically answering a wrong (initiated aggression) with self defense. That's all NAP is, One: Aggression and Two: Self-defense. You claimed the two make a right, which you just said you don't have a problem with, yet you called the two, self-defense, a wrong ("two wrongs do make a right"). What was the second wrong that you believe NAP has if not the self-defense/hitting back/insulting back?

It sounds like you're trying to have a serious conversation in regard to some some simple banter. Hush now.

I am an INTJ.
Oh praise you, you superior being. everyone should be on their knees infront of your unlimited knowledge and wisdom, just because you took some highly biased and limited test of you personality.

I bow to your limitless intellect.

(btw. people who says they are smarter then other people are often not, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect)

I didn't say I was intelligent. Only that my personality type is the kind that tends to overanalyze everything, or overplan for every contingency far into the future, instead of just going on gut instinct and winging it. Doesn't mean I come to the right conclusions. That I might seem intelligent is simply your opinion's reflection of me. I never claim that I am personally (or try not to).
And yes, I'm quite aware of that effect. The rather amusing irony is that Dunning Kruger is used quite often by SA goons against bitcoiners, when they claim that Bitcoiners don't understand finance, economics, or math, because they, the SA goons, do, and thuse understand that bitcoiners wrong. That itself is actually a Dunning Kruger effect, in that the SA goons are SO convinced that Bitcoin doesn't make sense, and are so confident of their own superiority with regards to finance, that they can't even recognize the way more advanced understanding of econ and finance when presented by bitcoiners. It's effectively Dunning Kruger types suffering from the Dunning Kruger effect and accusing the actually smart ones of suffering from it.

Please tell me what issues you thought through.

* Anti-gun laws become obsolete as people are able to print guns and other weapons in private from home.
* Government security struggles to adjust, as tax revenue plummets due to increased cryptocurrency adoption and weakening of government fiat currencies, while at the same time having to contend with more heavily armed criminals.
* Citizens continue to lose trust in government as their currency inflates, and the quality of provided services decreases.
* Government responds to these issues with increased intensity of violence, such as swat team style raids and arrests for increasingly minor infractions, and by adding more things to the list of items it considers illegal (possible even use of cryptocurrency itself).
* The end effect is more expensive use of police powers, combined with reduced tax revenues, resulting in police answering only a limited number of calls for help, and leaving many issues that government considers minor (such as robberies) unresolved.
* As people realize the police is not as effective as they want them to be, they start to purchase or print their own guns for their own defense.
* Initially the rash of shootings increases, as criminals figure out (are more frequently surprised) that they are up against armed citizens, and citizens figure out how to handle their new guns properly. The police is either dismissive of the issue, too busy focusing on their own raids, or is caught in the middle, with increased police casualties and resulting increase in police brutality.
* As the situation comes to a head, and people believe they have had enough, they start to form their own street patrols, which quickly evolve into certain specific people taking charge, and forming their own private police force. Some of these will be neighborhood watches where everyone contributes, some of these will be gangs forming to protect their turf, and some will be started by enterpreneureal types who want to start a private security business. Regardless, they all focus on keeping the neighborhood secure by taking care of only their own small parts of town, where they actually know the people and the areas, instead of a single huge organization trying to take care of the entire city.
* As these groups build more and more reputation, they will be trusted more than the government provided police, who, as more people protest their brutality, will either form into a group protecting a sort of police dictatorship status, or will dissolve if they realize that they are simply not needed any more.
* In the end, for most areas guns will be as necessary, or unnecessary, as they are now, with protection being provided by private local groups, and possibly even competing groups, as well as advances in technology and security systems. In some areas guns will be a necessity due to rampant gang violence (same as in inner cities now), and in some areas guns will be a necessity simply because people will decide that it's cheaper to carry guns and provide their own protection instead of paying someone else, with the private security only providing investigative services.
you seems quite depressed did you though of consulting a psychiatrist.

What I saw was a summary of what's been going on for a hundred years. I'm sure people were saying the same thing eighty years ago. They certainly were saying it fifty years ago. I was earnestly hoping for something with some substance. Nor did he even address the issue. I didn't ask for these cliched prognostications. I asked for his thoughts on what the potential problems are with the privatization of security, police and judicial decisions.

The height of cinema, perhaps? I don't know, I haven't watched it.

Have you seen 1&2?

I never saw saw. I never saw any saws. On the one hand, I really don't want to. On the other hand, I might be inclined to see saw. But really, is this the height of cinema? Share with me what you think might be the best films that you have seen. Note that this might be a little different from your favorite films, but not too much. Additionally, tell me what you might think might be the best film or two that you have not seen, but which you definitely want to see.

First, watch all Saws, amazing gore/traps/storylines.

I like most of Francis Coppola's films, he's an amazing director. Any films with Robert De Niro or Al Pacino.

Transporter (all parts) is a brilliant action film.

I'm waiting for you to put Saw up front and center for analysis, but you have to reciprocate with one my my clips. You can do it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=300564.0

Post your favorite movie clips, but with the caveat that you must offer criticism, analysis, or discussion of some movie clips that have come before yours. Watch your fellow members' clips. Specifically, look for any of the following within the clips, and try and offer insights in to what you have seen, with regard to the following:

- Use of color and color palettes
- Compositional separation
- Mise-en-scène
- Alternative stories or metaphors within reflective surfaces
- Acting
- Underlying subtext
- Confined spaces, voyerustic views
- The withholding of data, through obstructed views
- Note where the director has put questions in your mind about things that you see
- Continuity, or lack of
- The use of pillow shots
- Choice of camera angles
- Choice of camera movements, and what those movements symbolize
- Overarching themes
- Soundtracks, and the possible use of metaphor within song lyrics
- Sound effects, for atmosphere and mood
- Use of slow motion

Anybody may begin. Post a clip you really like. Please provide the title of the movie and the director if you can. Please limit clips to five minutes or less if possible. However, there are no hard and fast rules. Anybody may then post their own analysis, critique, or discussion regarding the clip, and post their own clip. When someone has posted regarding your clip, make an attempt to defend your choice, or learn from it.

If you're unfamiliar with any of the concepts listed above, feel free to ask, or use google.

Every scene in the movie American Beauty with the character played by Kevin Spacey.
That movie is pure gold. If you havent seen it, go watch it.
Trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ycmmJ6rxA8

I read somewhere recently where somebody explains why the film is junk. I don't totally agree with that, nor do I put the film on a pedestal.
