181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized Satellite System on: December 23, 2016, 08:42:04 AM
I don't get the point of all that crazy decentralisation. What would that bring more ? Also do you imagine how much a satellite costs ? Why would some people on the Internet pay between 250 and 300 millions of euros for something that will be useless because no one will be able to use it because the neighbour will be able to claim it for its own usage (if a satellite has some usage for a man). And talk about the insurance, 10% of the total cost, to which name should it be registered ?

Heck my mining days might be coming to a close
Power company is inceasing rate by 7% starting July 1

Every year, our electricity goes up by 9%.

Wow ! In which crazy country are you living ? You know here, the if the price goes higher by 2% that's a very big increase, and that's not yearly of course ! Well if you start at 0,01$/KWh that might be worth but I doubt that it is the case !
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is gpu mining dead? on: December 22, 2016, 08:37:26 AM
No it isn't. All will depends of your power cost. Someone paying 0,18$+/KWh won't be much profitable, so he will probably stop, but for people getting the kilowatthour at 0,05$ will be very profitable, even for now.
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Uh, you might want to start buying some Litecoins... on: December 22, 2016, 08:35:45 AM
So the billionnaire (a guy that has a portfolio of at least 1 000 000 000$) is the guy with the cap on the chair ? Also, for a bilionnaire buying so few ASICs is not a big deal. No offense to you, but I don't understand what is the link between the pictures and what you've been saying.
185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SHA256 low power mining (Any advices) on: December 16, 2016, 05:53:52 PM
The Antminer ASICs are the ones that are the best, definitely. Take the one that has the best ratio Th/s/price and pick this one. However I'd recommend you to buy them using fiat money so that way you're ASIC will always break even due to the price of Bitcoin to rise in the years to come.
186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What temperature to keep the idle cards ? on: December 14, 2016, 02:46:20 PM
So I'v stopped mining for now, and probably for ever. I'll probably convert the cards into gaming setups, and for the older ones (RX 380 and 970) that's certain. But until that time that might not come very soon, I need to keep them somewhere. For the about 2 or 3 weeks that passed since I've shutted them down, they've not moved. The basement where they are was once heated by them, but not it isn't anymore and temperature is probably getting under 10°C at night. Is it a risk for them ?

Can you not make some profit with Ethereum and/or Zcash mining? This should even be more so if you can offset your heat bill somewhat by leaving them run, which it sounds like you can from your description.

Well, I could, but I'd only earn 240$ 60$ a month with my 5 cards setup... That may be not that bad when thinking about it... Last time I checked, it was a lot less, so it seems it has climbed back a bit. Thanks to you I'm considering putting it back to work. I hesitate Huh.

Edit : 240$ is the raw revenue, 60$ is what I get after paying the electricity bill. Not worth it, as I told me one month ago !

For the other replies, thank you, that's nice, I'll sleep with a welcome peace of mind Wink ! I'll just check the humidity tonight.
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: -----SCAM ALERT, 99.9% of coins below this line are scams------ on: December 11, 2016, 04:32:34 PM
That's a rough statement, that I do not understand. I'd understand if you said that just Bitcoin was valuable, but why include Litecoin ? I see a lot more future in Ethereum than in Litecoin just for exemple. So assuming all the other altcoins are scams is rather cynical.

You can get 29 MH/s at 90W when underclocking the bad ones (those with Elpida memory). So 6*100=600W. Count 250W for the system to be large. A 850W gold PSU will be perfect Wink ! If you want further hints just ask me here !

I am trying to use this to blow out the hot air in my warehouse.

I have tried many different positions but the temps seems unchanged

I may doing this wrong way or wrong placement

Anybody has seen this in action?

How is exactly your warehouse ? Has it open windows ? Do you have access to a source of fresh air ? Another possibility would be blowing that fresh air directly on the cards, even if I'm not sure that it will work. A solution, complicated, I know, would be to create a network of fans that would push the hot air into a funnel, connected to that machine.
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on idle VPS on: December 06, 2016, 06:38:13 PM
In case what eckmar said just above doesn't apply to you, you'll still have to be sure that a bigger bandwith consumption is free, or you'll end up happy... Finally, it depends what the VPS have as CPU, because except in some rare cases, you'll need very highend CPUs to make any profit.
192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Starting mining rig on: December 06, 2016, 06:34:33 PM
Even assuming that you have free electricity and even cards, if you have to buy the rest of the mining rig at not a very good rate, that's a bad idea. Tell us at which price you can get a whole system and we'll then tell you if that's a good idea or not.
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Did anyone already assembled a 1050 rig ? on: December 03, 2016, 12:57:37 PM
If you plan on buying them (not already bought them) i think you should stay away from nvidia. I know you mentioned you don't want to make money, but buying them will be just a loss and no one want that. Going with AMD will at least get some of your money back

I've for now gave up on mining, as with my incredibly high electricity rate I have a pure profit of something like 50$ a month. Definitely not interesting for now. I doubt I'll buy anything in the coming year. That's just maybe some anticipation for in one year and a half from now if I move to another country to launch a big-scale mining operation, that will be driven by money at that time. I'll probably avoid 1050, Ti or not though given the poor numbers showed in the thread linked by Amph. I hope new cards will be released by then !
194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Did anyone already assembled a 1050 rig ? on: December 03, 2016, 09:32:29 AM
I'd like to know how it looks like, what are the consumptions... What I like most in mining is not making money, as I don't make that much, but more buying hardware parts Tongue... So with 1050, I could buy more, so I'm interested in it.
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: rx490? on: December 03, 2016, 09:30:38 AM
AriesIV10 said today that the RX 490 will be announced on December 12th on Phil's thread. Check it here. I'm not sure about that, but that might be good for us because cards price should be lowered a bit.
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My new ZEC + XMR+ ETH thread builds info links thoughts and photos. on: December 02, 2016, 05:52:52 AM
@ xleejohnx you are welcome.

I just took apart the solar array  zec rig.
I pulled the ram the cpu the cpu cooler.  keeps blue screening.

I built a new booster four card rig. I used all visiontek rx 460 cards.
This is a two wire rig! That is correct it uses the 8 pin cpu wire and the 24 pin mobo wire nothing else for power.

I want to make the most compact rig with the least amount of wires for power.

Can not be less then the mobo and the cpu wire.

It does 295H at 210 watts.

To further the build to the smallest size I ordered this psu.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CGGOXWQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

so this should be the smallest cleanest 4 card build possible.

and since the psu has a pcie cable I could pull 1 rx 460  and add 1 rx470 or rx480 to boast hash to about 400h

Hi Phil,

the RX460s.... some say its underpowered for hashing ZEC.... thoughts?

I am mulling over 480s or 470s for my next 5 Biostar Z170 4xGPU builds.

Or should I just wait for the illusive 490s?

Thanks

The rx 460s are weaker but they fit with out any cables. Fun build.

So we do not need to power it with a PCI-e cable ? I love that. That advanatge was near to make me take 750 Tis, but that might now make my heart pulse for those little beasts Tongue !
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Wrong calculations? on: November 30, 2016, 06:48:45 PM
What you're not taking in account, as unfortunately so many newbies, is that you'll earn less and less each day, so any calculation over one week is very hard Undecided.

Hye guitarplinker ! I confirm that I received my payment on time, as always Wink ! I'd like to request you to change my address to 1Rose3i3TqQoCteUzpQPz9RA89kL2QBhE.
199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: end of ETH mining on 2G cards on: November 28, 2016, 07:02:57 PM
I bought the 2gb cards because back in February who knew it would remain profitable this long. And the 4gb were mostly overpriced.

Then you were here before I was. I gave my advices to people looking to do as us and start mining in June or July with kind of cards.

Here's my build:

My dear, I award you the prize of the most beautiful and clean setup I've ever seen Wink ! It's very clean and I love the vertical motherboard. The little MINES panel is also very nice Wink !
