181  Economy / Lending / Re: Am about to go homeless, could use some help on: June 14, 2014, 08:44:04 PM

Dank, it seems that perhaps releasing a coin named "punchmeinthefacecoin" would be your best bet.  Then you sell it and let people redeem it in person.  Or maybe just a "kickmeintheballscoin".  Punching in the face is distasteful.

I'm not saying I want to do it, but I hear you were trying to release a coin to solve your problems.  Judging by the nature of this thread, one of the above coins would likely be your best bet.  And if you redeemed it appropriately, no one would ever call it a scamcoin.
182  Economy / Lending / Re: Am about to go homeless, could use some help on: June 14, 2014, 08:41:21 PM

How about we aren't forced to survive by working wage slave jobs?  How about we stop destroying our planet?  2/3rds of the resources gone in 50 years and pretty fucking shitty.

How about we all grow our own food and look out for each other as communities?  Why not have your own business within your house free of charge?  Or if you'd prefer, join an open, collective group, that is looking to advance humanity, together.

I'm setting the example.  I hope you all will follow and we can create our own networked society that basis off love and sharing instead of greed.

It is amusing how you ignored my question twice about why you have chosen the most expensive method of housing.  That being a hotel/motel.  Yes, money is a problem and it is that apparently you spend all of it that you're given on stupid shit.  If you want to be a hippy, be a hippy.  Sell your belongings and take one guitar and go Woody Guthrie.  acoustic guitar + laptop and thats all you need my friend.

If there weren't wage slave jobs, what do you think you'd be doing ?  you'd be busting your ass working the land.  Wage slave jobs only suck because you feel entitled due to modern American society.
183  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coingoo.com Anybody heard of these guys? on: June 14, 2014, 09:08:08 AM
Somebody with a brand new account just posted a link for Coingoo.com on the NXT forum.  The coin offers were really cheap!  Within a couple of minutes the post was taken down.  I am guessing it was spam.  I came on here and this is the only other information I could find about that site.

Looks too good to be true.  I could have made 30% on arbitrage turning around and dumping them.  If Coingoo was so happy to sell coins, why wouldn't they just dump on any regular exchange?

Coingoo.com is so blatantly a scam.  Like I said, they hammered bitsharestalk.org.  Every forum.  They did not act professional in the slightest.  I'd give them benefit of doubt if the links had affiliate ids.  There is no way it could be legitimate.
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 14, 2014, 09:03:42 AM

Bitshares is creating DPOS (delegated POS).  The delegates are voted on

voted on by whom?

-bm

By the stakeholders in the blockchain.
185  Other / Meta / Re: I am receiving repeated death threats from a forum member on: June 13, 2014, 09:03:09 PM

You're more likely to be struck by lightning or win the lottery.  Legitimate hits are a very rare thing in America, and probably approaching non-existent in the geek world.  Just ignore the clown and don't provoke him and he'll likely go away. In the gambling world people loan out 10s of thousands of dollars all the time and when people get stiffed, no one even gets punched in the face.  So forget about it...
186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could bitcoin save the music industry? on: June 13, 2014, 08:59:52 PM

You might wish to read a bit about Bitshares Music.  They're trying to tackle a similar problem, but streaming off the blockchain would be inferior to just downloading an mp3.  A specialized DAC/DAE could do this type of stuff and we may very well see it disrupt the music industry 10 years from now.  You pay the DAC and it gives you the music.  Eliminating the parasitic middlemen that have plagued the music industry for decades.
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Correct move on replacing fan on sapphire dual-x r9-280x ? on: June 13, 2014, 08:56:32 PM
So I have this video card and the fan started clicking and losing RPMs.  The card ran too hot so I took it out of my miner and decide to look into replacing the fan via RMA.  After looking into the process, I have the following concerns.

So once I get an RMA #, it appears that I will receive a different card.  The problem is that unless the warranty card I receive also had a fan problem, I am likely to be stuck with a card that may have some other intermittent issue.  All manufacturers send back refurbs but often refurbs have some small defect that the manufacturer chooses to ignore.  In electronics such defects can be critical.  In addition I pay shipping.

So this leaves me stuck trying to decide... Do I take my chances on an RMA + pay shipping or do I order a fan myself ?  Does anyone have a good suggestion on a source for the fan?  I think I will end up reselling this card on Ebay shortly, or perhaps keeping it for myself.

PS.  How do I make a voting poll on this site?
188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT, the ultimate SCAM, will it die because of 100% pre-mine given to 50 people? on: June 13, 2014, 08:04:24 PM
I do like some of the ideas and development behind NXT. Unfortunately, I tend to think the 100% premine/IPO model is very problematic for distribution.

This is why you should buy a NEM stake on the NXT AE if you don't already have one.  Distribution is such an unrecognized strength in a currency.  NEM may have taken a PR hit lately, but the distribtion of 1k+ veteran members from BTT is still there and the dev team is as strong as ever.
189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 13, 2014, 07:59:35 PM
miners are morons for joining a pool that already has +40% or not switching pools.

you cant fix stupid.
miners are not morons-they are maximising profits in their own interests. Also I think most are not altruistic so would stay with a pool even if there are competing pools (a bit like staying with your bank even if others are equally good/bad). In a previous comment btc was not the problem the market was. Basically correct but previous performance ( good handling of the update fork) is no assurance that another fork will be equally well handled and it makes a lot of people nervous-including me!.

Actually they are morons.  The 1% they save in pool fees is probably lost (in fiat value) due to all the FUD created by the 50% threat of ghash.io.
190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poll about NEM & UTOPIANFUTURE for all NEMsters on: June 13, 2014, 05:37:22 PM
Add more possibilities, i vote for not leading but being a (not leading) part of project. However i still think that bitcointalk polls are empty and just collecting empty bullshits only.

^^^ This.

He is too much of a blackeye on NEM now, but his work was invaluable.  His loss is a real blow to the community in addition to the bad press.  Working behind the scenes on his passion would still be valuable to all NEM holders.
191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 13, 2014, 05:26:20 PM
Peter Todd announced he has sold 50% of his Bitcoins due to the GHashIO situation, citing political biases in the system controlled by (i assume) Bitcoin core dev team and others refusing to address it.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/281ftd/why_i_just_sold_50_of_my_bitcoins_ghashio/

My suggestion was this:

This is a decentralized system.  But sometimes the question will arise:  Who manages the project in a decentralized system?  I suppose the community should be the most powerful influence in a decentralized system, yet there seems to be zero method by which the community can vote / influence the course of the code.  Obviously we don't want votes on every tiny issue, but on major issues like this, yes.

Why doesn't someone institute a worldwide consensus voting system?  Bitcoin is perfect for such a thing, and being the first fraud-proof voting system on earth, this would be ideal.  In the end, powerful people and organizations are going to try to influence the bitcoin core code.  There should be a system put in place that doesn't allow any major changes without worldwide consent.  In this case, miners may be opposed to the proposal.  That wont matter because they will only have so many votes.

I am new here so be gentle.  This is just my idea from a newbie outsider perspective.  Its strange to see everyone just sitting around throwing their hands up doing nothing.  Very weird.

If change is needed.  Someone do something to make it happen.

Even if you don't think its that big of a threat, im pretty sure even you would agree it wouldn't hurt to institute limitations anyways.

-B-

Bitshares is creating DPOS (delegated POS).  The delegates are voted on and they do the equivalent of miners.  I believe they use system metrics to change votes by default.  IE a Delegate/miner is misbehaving or not performing to expecttations, then the vote is automatically changed.  However, there will be a way to override it.

As far as ignoring Peter Todd as some guy on the internet.  LOL.  Peter Todd is probably one of the better BTC core devs.  You people need to wake up.  Stuff like this will keep BTC from ever growing past the current market cap.
192  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coingoo.com Anybody heard of these guys? on: June 13, 2014, 06:33:51 AM

They spammed the hell out of bitsharestalk.org and the links don't even have affiliate codes.  I'm talking like 20 posts on every forum.  Pathetic.
193  Other / Off-topic / Re: Truly time for me to die on: June 13, 2014, 02:53:14 AM
I can't take life anymore. I've come close to killing myself twice, putting myself in the hospital twice and this time I'm just done. I'm a degenerate gambler. I asked Nitrogen to IP ban me and they said they did but they didn't. I didn't change IPs or use anything different and today I went to Nitrogen and was fooling around with the prop bets. I didn't realize my deposit of 1.16 BTC had come in and I placed a bet that will never hit on some nobody for my full balance. I didn't mean to do this. I'm now broke and can't do this anymore. Ive failed everyone in my life, my parents know of my problem and don't want anythingto do with me. I can't do this anymore. I just want to die and im going to go thru with it tonight. Nitrogen wont help, nobody will. It was an accident and my life savings are gone. I wish they would have banned me like they said they did.

https://nitrogensports.eu/betslip/ed5fef4dnhFV0k4SVZ6eHVIckZHeGp5TUEwZz09/r/48971/

Im going to write a letter to my parents and my girlfriend and explain to them what happened. I dont want to live anymore, my problem will never get better. Ill always be a disappointment to everyone. Truly. I dont deserve to live anymore and thus im going to take my whole prescription of sleeping pills once I write the letters and tell everyone goodbye. Probably in an hour or so from this post.

it has been a great experience getting to know all you people in bitcoin and i wish you the best. I hope you all never fall down the path of gambling that i did.

Goodbye.

I don't mean to sound insensitive but I know people in 100ks of debt and they plod on.  Thats 100ks in USD over sports betting.  Always thought they could beat it.  Few can.  The ones who do beat it use math and not hunches.  Go to Gamblers Anonymous.  Try that first.  Not sure your situation with your parents, but if you've fixed your life and your parents are decent people then they'll forgive you for whatever you've done.

I mean if you are taking sleeping pills and have "put yourself in the hospital twice" you have all sorts of issues that go beyond a sports betting habit.  See a shrink.  Do something. You obviously need someone to talk to. Get your head straight.

BTW.

The sports betting racket is dead.  So many of the old timers have given up.  Online you get screwed, Vegas books have turned to low limit shit.  There aren't many outs.  ANd all this is assuming you're smart enough to beat sports.  Give it up.  Now is not the time to get started in sports betting and especially if you ever place bets off "hunches".  That site you mentioned is likely not even pay you out 286 BTC.  Perhaps they would.  Did you look at the sum of all the odds in that related prop bet?  How much juice was the house taking?  If you didn't then you have no business trying to make a career out of betting sports.

194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The NEM Project - The journey starts here on: June 13, 2014, 01:49:31 AM

This is a thoughtful post.  I tend to agree with it, but most of the leaders are going to be developers.  Who knows what reasons they have for being anonymous.  We can't really expect them to put their identity out there for the world to screw with.  It would be nice if there was more upside for a person than downside, but just look at how a team of trolls appeared and spent all day (June 12th) attacking UF and NEM.  Now in the case of UF, he somewhat deserved it, but it isn't necessarily that smart to have your identity tied to a project.  NXT, BTC, PPC and others have all be quite successful with anonymous leaders/devs.

I am not sure about your last statement but I believe NXT is well represented and "identified". https://xrptalk.org/topic/3116-nxt-goes-mainstream-payexpo-sms-payments-atms-nxtcafe-and-market-gains/

Most "anonymous" coins after the first few coins tend to go into oblivion. A classic case of high visibility is ethereum. They have been upfront with all their cards opened in the first place. Look where they are now. Nevermind if it is vaporware or not. It has yet to be seen. Fact is, they have opened their cards and stripped themselves naked for all to see. What's more satisfying to know as a result of that is that you have a huge following of developers contributing.

Besides, if we have a face to a name, this can be promoted on the ground rather than purely virtual as is now. Further, in this game we are playing, there has been too many scams and therefore trust is of utmost importance. Whatever it is, our leader who resigned had not been forthcoming with his honesty. And that's when it is more important now than ever that we need to have a name to the face of the new leader and not just some pseudonym. That can only make matters worse.

It was my understanding that BCNext was and is anonymous.  Putting together enough donations to have a representative show up at a conference is not the same.

Ethereum isn't really valid since it isn't a product yet ?  Yes, they've marketed well.  I am not sure how they are funded, but not everything is equally possible given the limitations of the funding model.

I don't disagree with your general sentiment, I'm just telling you that the leader of all coins if pretty much the lead developer.  If you want top notch dev talent, you can't expect them to put their name out there so they can be swatted or worse.
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should IPOs be banned from the site? Poll on: June 13, 2014, 01:31:51 AM
Unbelievable that within 60 seconds of making the post, there are already five votes against, and five votes for banning.  The unbelievable part is that not a single person that voted no could provide any rational response to my post as to why IPOs should not be treated entirely as scams.  I expect this thread to see a MASSIVE NXT/Ethereum shilling campaign.  The amount of effort and propaganda required to try and debunk the original post is so monumental, we may not see an anti-ban poster reply for weeks, just votes only.

Huh?  Why do you think that miners are not centralized? People who invest capital in mining equipment gets the coins and somehow that is more fair than any of the other 1/2 a dozen ways IPOs can distribute coins.  Yes, IPOs are a hotbed for scams, but to blanket remove them is absurd.

I have a NEM stake.  Even with the ugly stuff that was revealed today I am quite happy with my investment and the coin moving forward. It is a large community. I'm sure there are other compelling coins that I am not aware of.

You obviously have a big interest in mining equipment.  Not sure how mining makes anything less centralized.  People buy coins indirectly through hardware + electricity or they pay the coin creator directly.  (Or other ways).  The hardware + electricity was a great way to bootstrap this wonderous community, but it is far far far from being perfect.  It adds middlemen that are simply no longer needed.

Just because someone didn't respond to your FUD nonsense in 60 seconds doesn't mean you have some big grand point.
196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's already 48%, No one care about Ghash? on: June 13, 2014, 01:25:29 AM

This is why once POS has matured and shown to be stable we need to move BTC over to it.  I don't think now is the right time, because POS and its variants are not tested.  However down the road BTC really needs to get past the mining/pool crap.

How many specialized mining hardware manufacturers are there that haven't been scandalous in some regard ?
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEW ECONOMY MOVEMENT ---Statement on NEM--- {Updates & Discussion} on: June 13, 2014, 01:21:52 AM

Good job guys.  Lets move past this.  Don't feed the trolls anymore as it is a closed case.  I hope this thread is modded so that troll removal can be enforced.

Lets have a bigger, better, badder community than any other coin except BTC itself !  (And maybe one day we'll be bigger than BTC Wink

199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: June 12, 2014, 10:23:10 PM
I love that there were ~70 stakeholders for NXT and NXTers are saying NEM is compromised because of 1 sock puppet among 3,000 stakeholders. It goes to show how hungry the competition was for some negative NEM publicity.

I only see him with two accounts, which is legal if the second stake is meant for someone else.

People keep claiming he has multiple sock puppet accounts but that doesn't seem to be the case until someone can prove it.

The cautious and appropriate point of view would be the opposite from your own. You need to prove to us he doesn't have more sock puppet accounts. Its not the other way around.

Well it is not possible to prove either way.  So that path of thought goes no where.  No one has to prove anything.  UF may very well have many more stakes.  As much as that sucks, it doesn't mean _that_ much for NEM.  It hurts the credibility of the currency and gives people ammo to attack NEM with down the road, but it really has not changed that much.

If you go back and read earlier statements - I'm fairly certain UF was not that harsh on multiple stakeholders, as long as it was kept within a small amount.
200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM's leader utopianfuture convicted after mistake posting w. sockpuppet acc on: June 12, 2014, 09:38:50 PM

Seems like you have an exotic definition of distribution. I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about now!

I was just talking about the plain numbers which you can research.

YOu can say nonsensical stuff and call it 'plain numbers' but that doesn't mean it isn't nonsensical.

What is your definition of distribution?  I editted my previous post to come up with the *one* definition where you guys wouldn't be talking out your ***.
