181  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Semi-passively looking for 775 socket t cpu Core 2 Duo, Quad, Dual Pentium on: October 25, 2012, 05:35:01 PM
I have Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, I have tried selling it on eBay together with motherboard and a case. Didn't end up so well. I do not have a fan for it, just the CPU.
I am in WA too

If you buy hardware for xxx, then sell xxx bitcoins to pay off that hardware that wouldn't count towards income, would it?
Correct, you can deduct your expenses (hardware and electricity) from your revenues.

Just tell them you bought them sometime when the price was really low  Smiley

"Oh I bought 10 000 for $50 2 years ago."
When you sold these coins, you would owe taxes on the capital gains.

Edit: This is not tax or legal advice

Do you owe capital gains on anything that increases in value or only registered/titles things? Real estate and stocks having a named owner. If you bought a bag of potting soil, then for some reason that soil became worth $1000, originally it was $10. Would you owe capital gains tax since it was just some item that gained in value? IANAL and would like to know.
You'd really have to talk to a tax professional to understand all the nuance and possibilities, but in general in the United States capital gains tax can be owed on most things that increase in value.

Some examples are:
bottles of wine, rare stamps, books, coins, antiques, gold and silver bullion

Unless the laws regarding such items have changed since I last looked into it, the short term capital gains tax rate on these times is the same as your personal income tax rate. "Short term" meaning that you held the item for less than a year.  The long term capital gains tax rate on these items was 28% the last I checked.  Note that this is a higher rate than the 15% long term capital gains tax rate for stocks and bonds.  I'm not really sure which rate should be used for long term capital gains on bitcoin.

I'm not sure that the IRS would consider bitcoin a "foreign currency", but if they do, then Publication 525 states the following:

Quote
If you have a gain on a personal foreign currency transaction because of changes in exchange rates, you do not have to include that gain in your income unless it is more than $200. If the gain is more than $200, report it as a capital gain

Would it be possible to have an item gain value in tax as much as your income, would you still have to pay?

JFC.

Sorry for wondering but what does it mean?

It means Jesus Fucking Christ, you fucking scammer. Get a life and die.

And what I am scamming about? I asked for a loan, so I can pay off my debt.
And I do have a life, quite beautiful.

Don't just start pouring compliments all over her, pick a moment (walking in a park/ accidental pause in the middle of the conversation/ looking in her eyes for some time) and tell her how beautiful she is. Beautiful just sounds so much more powerful than saying pretty.

I think humans are collectively destined to destroy ourselves. The question is how much we take down with us.

In the end humans will stay, people who support environment and regenerative medicine will become elves, people who likes to destroy everything will become orcs, people who master science will become wizards and the life will bloom.  Tongue

I think I read that book. Wink

Shocked didn't know there was a book

It's similar to the plot of the Shannara series of books, but I haven't read them all, so I don't know the whole story.

Interesting, maybe I could find time to read them. I just always thought if our technology would evolve a bit it could possible to make some things true like elves; with the help of regenerative medicine and studies from Dr. Aubrey De Grey.
188  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AMD Layoffs on: October 25, 2012, 07:17:46 AM
I've kind of been out of the loop on mobile chips lately, but have been looking at buying a new laptop... are the "APU's" the chips that contain both a process and a GPU?  And they are good?  I'm looking in the $600 or less range, but can only find integrated graphics on the Intel side with those, and decent dedicated GPUs on the AMD side.  So I like the looks of the AMD offerings on paper, but I am just concerned about the CPUs themselves - power usage, actual processing power compared to the i3/i5's, etc.  And what's the difference between A6/A8/A10?

I have a laptop with AMD A10 processor and it has an integrated graphics 6620G. A6/A8 and A10 I believe differ in what graphics card integrated into them.
My laptop also has a dedicated 6650 and what I love about amd apus is that you can crossfire them.

I have gotten paid from them, 4 times, but didn't count how many videos I did watch. Sometimes it took more time for them to process pay out.
It seems sometimes add blocking software may cause the problem or do not track me feature in the browser.
191  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTCJam Fees? on: October 25, 2012, 05:47:33 AM
Are there any fees associated with BTCJam? If not, how do they make their coins?

I noticed there is a 1% fee on taking out the loan.

What I don't understand is how someone with 3k+ on eBay is able to get away with it and I can't. Call me an idiot if you want, but it's not like I'm the only one that took the chance.

What is the person who is doing that actually works for PayPal, cuz then they can do whatever they want.
Or maybe because they have such a long verification process.

I am sorry to hear that your account got put on hold though.  Undecided I try not to keep a big amount of money in PayPal just in cases like that.

110 BTC @ 3.0% - is that 3.0% annually or monthly?
I actually do not know what is it default's to on btcjam. I just set the rate at 3%.
It shows monthly payment as 10.34, in  12 month that would be about 124 bitcoins total paid.
That is 14 bitcoins more than originally borrowed
196  Economy / Lending / [BTCJam] Loan for consolidating debt on: October 24, 2012, 10:52:38 PM
Hey guys,

I have a loan request on btcjam - https://btcjam.com/listings/239
I am new and I do not have reputation build yet around here. I requested a loan because my job hours got caught and I am kind of person who pays in full at the end of the month.
Credit card rates are much higher than the rate I am requesting at so it would help me to minimize my fees.

I recently got back in mining on all of my graphics cards. (2 5970s and 2 5870s)
I also did got my old job back (that is part-time too and will take a month to make so monies)
And I can give you a copy of a my credit report from creditkarma.com if you want to invest a big amount in me. Let me know and/or if you have any questions.
Could even show you the outstanding debt I am trying to pay off.

Thanks.

The destruction of our race is a result of ego.   Even if we colonized other planets, we wouldn't solve the problem, ego.  As long as people look out for their self over others, we will always have the same problem with ego.

Luckily, part of evolution is for humanity to become aware of ego and it's harmful effects on society.  The next leap in evolution is man's collective ego death.

Now how do you suppose this 'ego death' will come about?

It's already happening.

Really? I think at this very moment the world is more corrupt and filled with greed than ever before. Humanity's ego can only be inflating.

There are always good and bad people.
Are you saying that at times when people were heading wards onto each other because their religion views were different there was less corruption and greed?

No mining rigs plugged it yet, obviously.

I'm loving it. So colorful.

Just thought I'd start a singularity thread on here. After being reminded by someone on here about it, I decided to start a discussion thread for it.

Also, for those who are interested, there's this site.

http://www.isthesingularityhereyet.com/

(Try hitting [Ctrl]+U or that funky little Mac key + U and checking out the source)

Anyways, discuss!

Hm, did I inspire you for a thread.  Tongue

I believe in singularity cuz you would think it's kind of inevitable. History shows computing power doubles every decade. I think it's faster now.
Scientists were saying something that we will achieve full singularity at around 2045, time when we will be at that point where we merge with technologies by upgrading ourselves.
Mmm, so exciting.
Hm, I so wish I could have a memory cheap implanted in my brain that can just download information ... Roll Eyes
