181  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hey guys! Guess what! Feb 2014... on: December 24, 2013, 07:49:31 PM
Quantative easing seems to have helped the US shift some of their manufacturing industries back to them. Don't think it can be sustainably eased any further at the moment, though.
182  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hey guys! Guess what! Feb 2014... on: December 24, 2013, 07:41:30 PM
February 2014 is the debt ceiling deadline
Holy dips, I didn't even think of that. Hey you guys, what would happen if the USD collapsed? What would happen to BTC? Would it be worth alot more dollars since they would be worthless?

I'd say the price per Euro might become the new benchmark.
183  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC FPGA miner monitoring fanspeed RPC linux/win/osx/mip/arm/r-pi 3.9.0 on: December 24, 2013, 09:24:41 AM
Much appreciated! Can now have my Pi using both the Drillbit thumbs and the Block Erupter in the same instance of CGMiner without needing to run two separate versions for each. And it will put my mind at ease a bit when I plan to go on a roadtrip for a couple of weeks over east next month and won't be able to reboot it from there.
Yep my RPi with the thumb also has 2 AMUs - all 3 in a USB3 hub attached to the RPi with an Arctic USB fan on them ... though I've been stealing the mining fans for myself the last few days ... been hot down here ...

If you have any Drillbit boards (not thumbs) I've been told by the drillbit guys, and noticed (though it's probably already been said elsewhere) that if it has problems you simply leave it idle (on power) for a few minutes and then it's OK again.

Also make sure they have the latest firmware 20131217

Yeah, the firmware bit will be tricky from what I've read (particularly making sure the two pins are shorted when the thumbs are powered on), but should be able to do it without extra help. Been lucky to get away with not needing fans, but it hasn't been overly scorching in Perth yet, so will see how that plays out.
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Alternate cryptocurrencies, Is it time for subforums? on: December 24, 2013, 05:46:41 AM
I would also add altcoin mining software and hardware. I'm more interested in those than the 50 million new coin announcements per day.
185  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: December 23, 2013, 05:05:38 PM
It is a fun and novel way to kill SD cards though with of all of the writes.
bitcoind gets to about Feb 2013 (eventually), from then on it gets starts to seriously lag behind (taking ~24 hours to validate ~18hrs worth of blocks) until eventually it kills the SD cards - have been tempted to see if that can be used as a way of stress-testing SSD drives Smiley

Would be interesting to see if microSDs using an SD adaptor can last longer or not under the same conditions.

187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: December 23, 2013, 08:16:17 AM
There are only so many dumps left that the price will eventually have to go above $1000, as the coins will get scarcer and scarcer. Especially given how the Chinese are still vacuuming them up while they can. It'll become a miner's market again, basically.
188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: December 23, 2013, 06:07:02 AM
^Been replaced with www.peercoin.net
189  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do LTC, NMC, & PPC follow proportionately to BTC prices? on: December 22, 2013, 12:23:55 PM
Mt.Gox's planned addition of LTC should be really interesting, as the proposed new trading engine is rumoured to also allow for more altcoins to be traded as well. It might result in more of a decoupling between BTC and the alts.
190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you store all your wealth in BTC? on: December 22, 2013, 12:09:34 PM
I'd balance it out, even with some in Peercoins as a backup. That said, would rather pay off my fiat debts first before converting larger sums of money into BTC and others, though I might also grab a few gold coins for good measure in case I need something tangible if something like a disaster strikes and I need to trade them if fiat money is not enough.
191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The best way for Bitcoin to grow is to integrate with other emerging techs. on: December 21, 2013, 12:32:00 PM
apple should accept bitcoins in there App Store Smiley that would change everything

Apple can go and get fucked, IMO.
192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cars providing USB and Ethernet plug for bitcoins. And fuel!!! on: December 19, 2013, 08:37:23 AM
Cars having a USB plug for charging and an ethernet plug for broadband access that would be available if you sent some coins to a QR code next to the written rules and instructions.
And also selling fuel!!!

Nice idea, except the voltage and current limitations of USB ports would render their use as charging a plugin hybrid or electric car useless.
193  Economy / Speculation / Re: China buying the cheap coins while they can on: December 18, 2013, 06:59:39 PM
that chart depicts coins flowing into china whether they are a bought or sold coin on the btchina market  Roll Eyes

So you don't think the rate should be a lot less given the freeze on RMB deposits with BTCChina?

Watch the amount going into China and weep

Am I reading those stats right? For a country that supposedly put a halt to Bitcoin/fiat trading with its native currency, the Chinese sure are buying up a lot of BTC still.

Yep, it looks like everyone else has been had.
195  Economy / Speculation / China buying the cheap coins while they can on: December 18, 2013, 06:47:19 PM
http://fiatleak.com/

The amount of coins still flowing into China doesn't appear to be slowing down at all. If anything, they look like they might be speeding up the rate at which they are buying.

You've all been played for fools by the PRC, simple as that.
196  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM HODLING on: December 18, 2013, 06:42:41 PM
Can't wait for Hodlcoin! Not even the power of doge would be able to stand up to it.
197  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is China fucking with us so they can get cheap coins? on: December 18, 2013, 06:40:49 PM

Looks like they are buying coins cheap while they can.

At the rate China are buying coins, it looks like everyone else has been duped.

These charts show that the selling is no where near as high as the crash back in April.

http://coinregulations.com/ban-on-btc-china-taking-cash-payments-causes-bump-in-the-road/

Also, the ratio of sellers to buyers is more balanced. This talks to the increased popularity of bitcoin around the world, which is good news. Having one or two countries dominating the landscape is bad news as it causes negative spikes like we are seeing when regulators throw their toys out of the pram.

The more people around the world that use it, the greater the price stability, and it almost goes without saying that there will be greater demand keeping prices rising due to scarcity of supply.

Bitcoin just went on sale for a few weeks, thats all.

nice chart, glad I saw this!

The numbers are extremely deceiving.  The primary catalyst in the April crash was the fact that everyone used the same exchange, MT Gox, and the system crashed during the sell-off.  People could not put in orders.  If they did put in orders, the lag was literally up to an hour.

Exactly, and I plan to buy through other exchanges like Coinjar and BTCMarket to avoid Mt.Gox like the plague.
