if this system is here to stop people trying to climb the scale up, then it is an absolute success.

It probably is. It is essentially freezing the rankings.

you nailed it : it will FREEZE rankings.

Yes, it's a freeze. I'm a full member, and I got 5 sMerits. Suppose I send them to someone, but that user will get only 2.5 sMerits. Only 2 are spendable, because, as I understand, sending fractions is not allowed. The next will get 1 point, and the next will get nothing (0.5 is not spendable). So this system will deplete in no time. There will be "merit sources", but the amount they will get is very low. Only a few chosen ones will get the points. The rank requirements are so ridiculously high that they are essentially unattainable.

what the admin doesn't get, is that if the majority of people are still posting directly or non- directly, to get a better ranking.

Right. Other reasons to post, like to get and to provide help and for reward in signature campaigns, are still there, but there is actually no incentive to make high-quality posts.

when the majority will be tired of these too harsh rules or whatever, they simply lose patience and move somewhere else.

if theymos has a made a full life / earning from the forum, he has to understand, not everybody here is in such situation.

and people may not be willing to farm so hard to get some small and incredibly slow reward.

if i was about to launch a new crypto i would not waste so much time and energy on this forum anymore, and i'm sure tons of new people might start to think this way.

discouraging is easy especially when better alternatives exists.

just like bitcoin, this forum is aging, and sooner or later it will get replaced by some other community.

this is very sad, but such rules might make the end of this forum sooner than later.

This may happen. There will be less spam, but there will be also much less new users potentially interested in an ICO or a new coin.

LOL so basically someone is trying to launch a merit market.

on a bitcoin community, its pretty obvious that some people here are gonna have to buy merits to get up.

also i would like to show that excepted some senior/VIP/moderators members.

Next to no one got "merit" points. and the thread already has almost 40 pages.

With the current allocation rules the merit points are so scarce that selling or buying them makes little sense. And they cannot be very expensive, because nobody is going to pay that much for upranking.

this means to my humble guess, that its gonna take me and other entire year to reach the "full member" level. (ven though its only 40 activity points away ).

where the hell am i gonna find 90merit points ?

For me it is 150 points. I think it does not even worth trying.

if this system is here to stop people trying to climb the scale up, then it is an absolute success.

It probably is. It is essentially freezing the rankings.

anyway i'm not especially negative toward this, i'm quite used to natural selection, and fairness is just a human concept, not a reality.

I'm not sure if it is going to be good for the forum in the long term. Maybe it will change.

what news with price go is so down? And DEV not tell about POS reward after MN release

According to the document about masternodes, Phase 2 with 50% yearly POS reward will start at block 240,000.

Did I miss something, Is there Merit reward for reporting spam posts?

No. Merit points are for good posts only.
185  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 12:26:11 PM
In terms of the merit system, however, I think it has a good chance of being an effective way to distribute the points. The merit sources can't do all the work themselves and scour the whole forum. When they leave points to someone for a good post then that person is also likely to be a reasonable judge of what is deserving.
Can you suggest a better way of doing it?

Maybe it would be better to regularly allocate a small number of sMerits (not Merits) to everyone, probably proportional to their rank/merit. The current system may lead to rapid depletion of sMerits.

  • Its economy is based on a trickle-down effect.

This is especially worrisome. It is well known that the trickle-down effect does not work.
187  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 11:49:39 AM
I can feel the frustration of those who were just a few activity points from full, senior or hero.
No love for us frustrated almost legendary members?  Cry

There is Smiley , but due to the randomness of activity requirement for Legendary you have a chance of getting enough Merit beforehand.
188  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 11:36:02 AM
It is probably too early to judge the new system. Just a few thoughts. It may reduce the number of meaningless posts and account farming, but after some reading I feel it is essentially rank freezing, at least for members and above. sMerits are incredibly scarce and upranking even from member to full member is going to be a very rare occurrence. I can feel the frustration of those who were just a few activity points from full, senior or hero. Well, I suppose I just have to accept that I'm stuck at the full member level forever...

New SONO wallet been crashing quite a few times under Windows 7, this never happened with previous versions.

Anyone also experiencing this?

No. 32-bit Windows 7 in a virtual machine, no crashes, just like the previous ALTCOM wallet. However, I have not tried to send the coins yet, only staking.

Hey guys good news here. Hope this will affect bitcoin price and it will grow up. What do you think?

No ban but regulation, just as expected. Governments want to collect taxes, not to kill this goose laying golden eggs.
191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Transaction fees going down~ on: January 25, 2018, 08:03:43 AM
Yes, and the number of unconfirmed transactions is decreasing. The fastest and cheapest transaction fee seems to have stagnated slightly above 200 satoshis/byte, but, as far as I understand, even 20 satoshis/byte transactions are now feasible (although slow). This may be due to Segwit adoption or because someone stopped spamming the network, or both.
192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Realistically, how do you think bitcoin will perform this year? on: January 24, 2018, 05:33:22 PM
As 2017 has shown, bitcoin is impossible to predict, we can only guess. My guess is that 2018, at least the first half of it, will be rather boring. No new ATH, and even the return to $20k seems to be unlikely. Hovering near $10k is more likely.
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Tangerine (Ex-Mandarin) - Democratic Cryptocurrency Exchange on: January 24, 2018, 07:43:28 AM
it was a good ICO back then now turned to a valueless token. what happened to this project? do you have a plan to put your token on the third party exchange? your exchange platform has no volume as of now.

The developers did not appear here for a long time. It looks like an elaborate scam, the exchange is probably just a mockup. Nothing happens there.

Anyone know when the swap will happen? Or is there no swap just name change with the same address?

Yes, it's just rebranding. No swap needed, simply copy your 'wallet.dat' to the SONO data directory (see instruction on the first page). The address remains the same. Everything works normally now, including staking.
195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finally Bitcoin is becoming normal on: January 23, 2018, 11:24:24 AM
I've also noticed a sharp decline in fees and the number of unconfirmed transactions, but it may be not 'normal'. The insane fees in December may be artificial, caused by spamming or other manipulation.
196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Face up to reality: The game is over on: January 22, 2018, 02:24:59 PM
I do not think this is the end. Whales may sell, but they also want to buy back and pump the price again - if not the same whales, then the others. I'm almost sure that there will be another cycle.
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PoW/PoS180%]SONO [YoBit][Masternodes] OWN EXCHANGE IN THE MAKING on: January 22, 2018, 01:29:17 PM
I have over 1000 altcom coins in an altcom wallet, is it as simple as sending altcom coins to a sono wallet, or will there have to be some mediator to do a one off swap?

It's much simpler. There is no swap and no need to send anything, just copy 'wallet.dat' file to the data directory of the new SONO wallet. Description is on the first page, message #2.
198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PoW/PoS180%]SONO [YoBit][Masternodes] OWN EXCHANGE IN THE MAKING on: January 21, 2018, 10:24:09 AM
Downloaded new wallet, copied wallet.dat, it synced, balance is OK, but staking does not work. The wallet is unlocked for staking only, but it reports "Not staking". 2 active connections, block explorer shows reasonable network statistics. It also says "PoW + PoS Stage 1" - when will the transition to Stage 2 happen?
199  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the bitcoin price recover? on: January 18, 2018, 09:30:27 AM
I think eventually it will, but this crash is much more severe that the previous ones in 2017 (it is not as bad as 2013-2014 one... yet). A new ATH in 2018 does not seem very likely. Right now the price stabilizing above $10k would be a huge success.
200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to fall below $8000 on: January 17, 2018, 02:37:54 PM
I think now it may easily go down to $8k without any shutdowns and crackdowns. $10k is broken and almost nobody is buying. Looks like a major crash. I believe it will recover, but it may take more than a year.
