Just saw this on my tracking from UPS "The receiver must pay the duties or taxes due on the package."

how much do I have to pay?  Im in Oregon, generally never had to pay any duties or taxes.. but never had anything sent this value before

This is really pissing me off!!!  I ordered nine (9) units myself.  I hope I don't have to pay a hell of a lot on top of what I already paid.  I would like to know what the tax/duties is for?  Damn government.

WOW!!!  I've never seen this before either.  How many units did you purchase?  How much do they say you owe in duties/taxes?

RIP profitable hobbyist mining on 120V circuits.

The ROI math using assumed pricing for these beasts doesn't even make them seem that profitable for large-scale mining.  I don't think any of the current gen hardware will ROI before the halving less than a year away.

It's an impressive machine, but coming on the heels of the S5+ and S7 I don't like the trend of "bigger bigger bigger" in both physical footprint and electricity demand.

I wonder where we'll be a year from now, 12.5 btc block rewards and 100 billion network diff...

I anticipate a BIG boost in bitcoin price by the halving.  We can expect the climb to begin by March/April 2016.  Buy BTC cheap now while you still can.

Here's a great thread to follow regarding bitcoin price and speculation:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=274613.3820;topicseen

We could see a price tag of $47,850 to $50,000 on the SP50 quite easily.  I would think the more bought in bulk, the cheaper they would be.  Bulk pricing MIGHT start at 3 units.  We'll see...

did you inquire or a guessed?
if so, buyers would waste a lot of money...fast.
with 8.5c (Great north data), and minimal difficulty rise, you will be in the red for a tune of 7.5K+own canada $2.5K for import=minus $10K after a year of operation at current low difficulty rise (yeah, right, it will stay low-NOT)

I've thought about this more after my previous post.  $39,600 to $44,000 is more like it.

It's all kinda speculation no one knows.  And I'm guessing it varies on number you purchase.  So it could be hard to get a number.

Anways I forgot to say it earlier congratz SP on new miner.  It is one heck of a unit.

Agreed...

I made an edit to my previous quote as you posted that it could be $35,000 per unit with the purchase of 30+ units.  Something tells me the minimum purchase will probably be close to $120,000 (3 units).

The initial cost in the beginning for the case, fans and PSU's make the up front cost significant but upgrades in the future will make costs cheaper.

Spoondoolies is done. so don't worry about them adding hashrate.  KNC has a ton of overhead and isn't as competitive anymore.  They produced solar on 16nm fin 2 process, but at a huge costs for tapeout and being an early adapter.  Sure they are private and have huge efficiency but take a look at how small there total hashrate is... Its tiny.  4% of the network for KNC... We have more than that and our company is a fraction of the capital investments.  I would agree we're at about .05 cents all in including cooling and overhead.  Lets face it, if your in the bitcoin mining world, bitmain sort of crushed the competition.  The logistics and capabilities that company have far exceed any capabilities KNC, and Bitfury have of keeping up...  Spoondoolies is gone, and everything else is gone.

I don't think even with a huge price jump that you would be extremely profitable.  Your best way as a home miner to make money is, buy direct from Bitmain, mine for 2 months at high profits, then sell the miner for 90% of cost, and make money by reselling.  That's about your best bet.

I don't know why I said, "KnC."  I meant to say, "Bitfury."  I had a brain fart.  lol

Shhhhhh about the selling after a couple of months.   Grin  I will have my trigger finger ready on selling mine rather quickly like I did all of my other rigs if the difficulty gets outrageous while BTC price remains low.

I suppose it's still a slim chance I could be moving to Washington State.  If I do, it may be in December or January.  I'm just kind of straddling the fence at the moment about Washington State.  It is quite a gamble.  I may end up increasing my power at the house to 400 or 500 amps and stay here instead of moving to Washington State.  Just hard to say at the moment.  I have many options to consider.  I really like the sound of the E-Cig stores as well while mining.
1811  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Pics of Large Miner Hosting Center Under Construction on: September 10, 2015, 03:30:28 AM
soo bitcoin mining still profitable to some big miners invest 1 milion at this point i would call it insanity for sure, why not buy direct the bitcoins into the market instead try to mine?well the dream keeps alive for some who has balls to invest .

Yes, one has to be a bit ballsy right now to mine.  I'm doing it still with $0.10 cents per kWH.  I don't think I will make the move to Washington State the last quarter of this year or first quarter of next year as previously planned.  I'm in "wait and see" mode concerning what KnC and Spondoolie's will add to the network hash rate in the future.  I would hate to get out there, only to find I need to double my hash rate 3 or 4 months after arriving to mine the same amount of bitcoin I mined when I first arrived.

I ordered 9 x S7's the other day.  I was planning on ordering 21 more S7's in December but now I'm only going to order 11 more S7's in December.  I'm using the rest of the money I would have spent on the other ten S7's to open up an E-Cig store here in Alabama.  A buddy of mine has 13 E-Cig stores open now and is clearing over $60,000 a month from all of them combined.  He's riding around in a convertible Mercedes after two years with his house paid off.  So, I figure it's worth a shot to open one and open another one 4 months afterwards.  Then open two of them every 4 months until I have 10 or more of them within a 100 mile radius of my location.

I'm doing this cause I think it's important to be a bit more cautious at this point in the game as a serious home miner.  I want to have some rigs mining in the hope of having rigs going at the right point in time before a potential pump in bitcoin price.  The rigs could easily pay for themselves in a much shorter time if we have a big pump within the next 3 to 6 months.  I think everyone knows the price of the S7 would rise considerably if bitcoin price rises considerably.  It would be advantageous to buy the S7 now while it's cheap or do not buy it at all.  If one waits until a BTC price pump, the price of the S7 will out of ROI reach for many who choose to get in that late after a pump.

So, I'm gambling by mining with 20 of them by end of December in the hopes of a BTC pump coming soon.  I think it's too risky for me to buy anymore than that at this time with $0.10 cents per kWH.  One who is paying less than $0.05 cents per kWH is in more of a position to gamble with more HW than I am.  Yet, still it is gambling quite a bit.  We just don't know yet how much HW KnC and Spondoolie's will add to the network.
1812  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: September 10, 2015, 03:02:45 AM
If you have hardware sitting around you're mistake was hanging on to it for too long, you should sell off your hardware after using if for six to eight months or a year at max, then use the process to buy new shit

I dont have any of my sp30s, sp20s from last year

Agree 100%.  The moment I saw BITMAIN's thread on the new chip on the S7, I logged in to eBay and put up 44 of my rigs up for auction.  I had them all listed by the time we BITMAIN's thread had started it's 2nd page.  I re-invested that into 9 x S7's.

I'm not sure what SFard's will do now with the price of their SF100 now that the S7 is out.  They might stop manufacturing the SF100 all together.  I just don't see them selling too many more of these.
1813  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: September 04, 2015, 03:01:56 AM
It is all relative to btc price. If you start your investment with $$, then you would not mind 20% diff increase as long as the price increased 30-300% in the same time period, right?
What we have, on the other hand, is stable (last 7 mo) or declining (last 20 mo) btc price, while difficulty is still rising.
We have a distorted market because market participants don't have equal free excess to mining equpment as many manufactureres don't even make such equipment available at any price.

In other words, the stakes are against home miners, this is clear.

Not necessarily.

If you buy a miner for 2 bitcoins when bitcoin is at $200 your total cost is $400.  The difficulty increases until it is no longer profitable to mine. You end up mining 1.5 bitcoin but the price is now $400.  You say, hey I now have $600 when I started with $400, so I made money.  But if you look at the return of bitcoins, you just lost money because you started with 2 and now have 1.5.

On the flip side, if price is stagnant or decreasing slightly, and as a result difficulty remains stagnant or even decreases some, that miner may run profitably for a long while, and you may end up with 4 bitcoins at $150 by the time the miner isn't profitable. In this case you've essentially purchased 4 bitcoins for $100 each and you started with $400 and ended with $600. But if you had bought 2 bitcoins instead you'd  have spent $400 and ended with $300.

Obviously there's other variables at play, but mining could be a way to protect against a drop in price at the expense of some upside if the price increases.

You offer another positive way of looking at this.  Thanks for your input.

We are worried to order because of the payment methods ...

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks !
they have a really good record of shipping gear that you paid for.

Phillip, is telling you right.  Look at his stats on his reputation.
Bitmain, is the best in the business and fulfilling orders and backing up their warranty.  You're in good hands!!!

Good rigs, but i am in need of s5+ as i don't have costly electricity,i prefer s5+ with more Th and less price.

S5+ will be few and far between to find anywhere other than China.  Those who were able to get them will probably hold on to them for a while.

Love the colored power cables.

LOL   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I love them myself.  Makes it easier to identify easier as well if I need to.

My thoughts exactly.  I'm going to have to get me some sets.  Pain to trace a spaghetti monster of black cables.

Thumbs up!!!

I actually think the other companies will hit the network hard with a lot of hash at less than 0.12 per GH/s to push out a lot of miners.  It will be rough in the beginning for them but they will ultimately push everyone out.  The chances of them doing this during the winter is not as good as this coming spring.  So, if people are going to continue mining, this winter may be their final opportunity to do it at this low of difficulty.  I can see 90+ billion in difficulty quite easily by spring time with the new rigs about to hit the network.

Oh how the the times have changed. 90+ billion difficulty is only a 90% increase and this is in more than 6 months. We used to have 100% increases every month back in the good days Smiley

I agree.  In the fall of 2013, the difficulty was increasing 35% each time.  And so was the price so it was all good around.  Sadly, those days are long gone.

Agreed, those days are gone.  If one compares the difficulty to what we had a year ago, one will see it has increased by 100% (doubled).  That is decreasing.  By December, we may see it's only 40% to 70% if the price of bitcoin remains between $225 and $300.
