1801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would someone send 4 BTC to Satoshi (Genesis block) on: January 13, 2023, 06:03:05 AM
Idunno, let's probably not underestimate how rich some of the earliest bitcoin whales can be especially when bought in the single digits or cheaper. I totally doubt this was a mistake.

This exactly. There's so many former bitcointalk forum users who hoarded a ton of bitcoin in the early days when it cost next to nothing, or was essentially free minus some basic computing power.  That four bitcoins sent to whomever it was, is likely a drop in the bucket for them.  They wanted to do something kind of cool as well as decrease the pool of available bitcoin which makes all other bitcoin more valuable.

Any interest in an NFL playoff pool? Basically an entry could be like $25 bucks or whatever ( I don't even care if we did $5 worth of bitcoin each, any amount would be some fun action for the playoffs)... each team/person makes picks on each game all the way down to the winner of the Super Bowl.  Each round would have a certain amount of points that you get for correctly picking the winner.  Player with the most points at the end, wins the pot.

If anyone is interested...

By the way, thank you YodasRedRocket for sharing the information as quickly as you did!

This

@everyone- don't be afraid to speak up about things. If you discover something like Yoda did here, say so immediately.  The faster you act, the better the chance of less people being hurt.  If you're uncomfortable doing so, tell someone like myself who will.  I have seen too much of a lack of action when it comes to scamming incidents over the years. The lack of action is extremely harmful.

Peeling the cards- as others have said just use a pocket knife or razor and slightly peel one edge just far enough that you can then use your fingers to peel it off.  I was unable to redeem multiple cold key cards using Ballet, but Coinomi eventually worked for me.  I did have to do some cleaning of the cards, a little sticker residue prevented the cameras from being able to scan the QR's.

I would encourage everyone to sweep any funded cards you have right now, don't wait.

As for everything else, I am holding my tongue this evening.  I knew Yogg well, and communicated with him via phone chats a good bit.  I am at a loss for words and feel sick to my stomach.

1804  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can players bet on their own games on: January 12, 2023, 05:51:37 AM
I’m curious to know if there’s any players (fighters, footballers….) who have been caught betting on themselves or on their own team to lose or win, i know it’s not allowed for any player as a part of their contract for example Ufc fighters are strictly forbidden from betting on their own fights. And the reason is pretty obvious since the player can easily manipulate the final score of whatever he is playing or fighting.
But surely in small or unknown leagues there must be some people doing it. For example a goalkeeper of small devision league in Africa where some bookmakers cover betting on the match can create an account on it, if they ask for KYC verification can easily ask his friend or family member to do it for him. And can earn much money by letting his team lose. Fighters can manipulate that even more.
So i would like to know if you heard of any player been caught doing that? and if my example is right?

This has been a sizably big deal in American Sports history. Some of the most famous ones are like with MLB star Pete Rose who’s famously been held out of the baseball Hall of Fame due to being caught gambling on his own games (he would bet on his team). Then you’ve got the recent case of Calvin Ridley, a star Wide Receiver in the NFL who was just suspended for this past entire season for getting caught gambling on his team as well (was for like a silly small amount. Some real sloppy gambling).

Man what an ugly game by the Bulls tonight. I am glad I didn’t put down any more btc on it than I did.  They might not have Demar right now, but they don’t need him to be beating teams like the freakin Washington Wizards.  All I can do as a Bulls fan right now is sit and hope for Ball to come back and everyone be healthy, then maybe they’ll have something.

1807  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NCAA Football National Championship Game - TCU vs Georgia - Betting Thoughts on: January 11, 2023, 08:33:17 AM
Just seen this thread and wow what a game, Georgia completely innihilated the horned frogs.  This has to be one of the most lopsided national championship games ever, no?  I didn't bet on the game because I couldn't figure out either way but if I did it probably would have been on the under.  Fun fact georgia is again favored by vegas to 3 peat next year.  What a dominant season they had.

Edit: just checked, 36 point victory was the widest margin before Georgia crushed that tonight. 58 points! Lol.

This game was interesting for just a couple minutes lol. I don’t get a ton in to college football but always try and watch the championship game, so I stuck it out for most of the game for some reason. What an embarrassment. I asked a few of my buddies which way they were betting ahead of the game and all I got back was a “I’m taking the over”. I regret not following suit.

Thanks for posting, i think my KeepKey died during the last firmware update (frozen) so am currently looking for a new hardware wallet, i will check this one out

This wallet looks interesting (and I appreciate OP posting it, as I like to collect some of the more unique hardware wallets) but I would also recommend looking at Trezor and ColdCard wallets. They tend to get the most recognition for all the right reasons. Here’s a good write up on ColdCard- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5405919.msg60552395#msg60552395
1809  Economy / Economics / Re: Your way of living the wage what you need to live normal life on: January 11, 2023, 01:22:44 AM
by doing calculations with economic experts they have disvored next prices.

If you live in generally canada you should earn at least 3500 in order to function normally.
Euro zone it's about 3500 EUR
In USA it's varied but If you live in los Angeles or new York it's a 7000$ + for sure
In UK London is more expensive but its about 4000 + for sure.

The goverment should restrict prices of rent for example If you rent out the Property goverment should check what could be the price of rent so to make sure person who rent will not use most of the work salary for rent

If we talking about countries like Norway where food price Are very high then Norway minimum wage should be atleast 100,000 NOK + it's about 10,000$ value.

Business who dont comply with minimum wage rules should get highest penalty and not allowed to operate anymore.

If person have more skills and experinces then salary should go up immediately otherwise penalty for company.

If we do this then instant paradize all around the world

I know that in some places here in the United States, there are certain rules about how much and how often landlords can raise the price of rent.. but I'm not sure this is something that is very wide spread throughout the United States.  You mention Los Angeles and New York, but keep in mind those are pretty much the two most expensive cities in the United States.  Not to mention is one's choice if they want to live in these insanely overpriced areas.

I think some of these proposal are good ideas, but at the end of the day you don't want to get too close too a communistic type state.
1810  Economy / Speculation / Re: what If Bitcoin Price never comes up on: January 11, 2023, 01:19:16 AM
There's all sorts of different things that could make the price of bitcoin rise back up to an all time high, but it's certainly not something I think will happen anytime soon.  I think this FTX deal has been a pretty crappy drag on things, but once that blows over, and some other finance companies take on bitcoin buying/selling etc, things will start to recover.

All sorts of things could make it go lower.  If the financial markets tank again, even worse, it could certainly take bitcoin down with it.
1811  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 11, 2023, 01:10:04 AM
I'm currently on vacation and getting caught up on all the latest and greatest movies that have gone on this past year.  Tomorrow I've got a ticket for a $7 entry to Wakanda Forever (the nice lazy boy seats) and plan on going to see Avatar the day after or the following.  Plan on watching The Whale really soon as well.  Certainly will have to put the Spielberg movie on my watch list as well.  Will report back for my picks!

Never thought that the ticket prices here in India would be higher than those in the United States. If I want to watch Avatar: The Way of Water, then I need to spend around $12 to purchase tickets for 3D IMAX. Cheaper options are also available, but those are 2D or 3D without IMAX. Cheapest tickets are available for around $2.50. BTW, this movie has already collected more than $2 billion from all around the world and may end up overtaking Avatar 1 by today. At this point, Avatar 1 has a gross collection of $2,922 million compared to $2,797 million for Avatar 2.

The $7 dollar entry fee for Wakanda Forever is at a "specialty" theatre where they've got just 50 seats and they all recline and what not.  This movie is also close to being out of theatres so it was $7 for a during the day ticket.  The screen quality is also pretty crappy.  I do plan to go so Avatar soon at my local high end theatre with IMAX and all that, those tickets are currently $16.19, but I'm guessing this does not cover taxes, so it's probably close to $18.
1812  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: January 11, 2023, 01:03:35 AM
Celtics vs Bulls might be the best entertaining game of all. Two offensive teams, expecting a high scoring game.

Let's see if Bulls' Zach Lavine will continue his good numbers against the Boston Celtics. It's been notable that Bulls fans are really happy with his recent performance where he joined the Steph Curry 3-point party after establishing 11 3s last game. Although LaVine is playing like that, others want to work him on making defense as purely focusing on offense won't take them always to win. But for me, if he's really not good at that, let them focus on his specialty and trust his teammates to do what's lacking for him. It's a team effort, by the way, to win.

But according to rumors, that doesn't change the fact that LaVine has the chance to still get traded before the trade deadline.

As far as the rumor list is concerned, his name is still hot there and not until the trade deadline ends, we can ruled out that possibility.

They got defeated by the Boston Celtics earlier, but LaVine still got a good stats in the game and managed to put 27 points with rebounds and assists. It's just that the Celtics now are quite dominant leaded by Tatum and Brown, they have been dominating since the season have started which is why they are at the top in the league leading both West and East conference.

Anyway, back to the Chicago Bulls. Is LaVine that hot in the trade talks? Care to share some information.

I remember when others are doubting the performance of the Boston Celtics because they established losing steaks before and the notable one is against Orlando Magic which others thought should be an easy win for the Celtics. Those people didn't realize that even a dominant team does have a bad night that might last for several games. Look at Celtics now, maintaining their rhythm again and going strong at .707 above the winning percentage.

Back to your question, yes Zach LaVine is being part of the trade rumor but maybe things have changed now when he is putting up good numbers recently on their previous games. Not just LaVine but other core players of the Chicago Bulls too are being put on trading rumors.

Some teams that are rumored to seem interested in acquiring him are; New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Miami Heat.

Trade talks for Zach Lavine are not that hot.  I'm a Chicagoan/Bulls fan and listen to Chicago sports radio daily and it's not something that has brought up very much at all.  If there was serious talks going on, I would be hearing about it all the time, especially during Bulls specific segments which Bulls beat writers, and it's just not something that's really being discussed.  Regardless of the fact that he's playing better, this was/is a long shot after just signing a max deal in the offseason.
1813  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can we really make a living in sports betting? on: January 11, 2023, 01:00:08 AM
I heard lots of stories online that there are people who are making a living in sports betting, and honestly it really inspires me that's why I'm still gambling now. So I'm just curious, do we have members of the forum here that are making a living in sports betting? Can they share some inputs on how to be successful like them?

I hope they will share so we will know if it's really possible. I mean, as the saying goes, casinos always win because they have the advantage, so how come people are making a living in sports betting?

I am a sports gambler but not a real serious one.  I have heard this question being proposed to professional sports gamblers however, and I can say it's certainly not something for most people to try and obtain a living from.  The guy who went on a really long run on Jeopardy recently who was from Illinois is a professional sports gambler.  I remember him saying it's extremely stressful and there's many times where he loses crazy amounts of money.

I think those whom are highly intelligent and highly proficient in math/charts things of that nature are the ones who could make this a possibility.
1814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We have been told: Invest only Extra money in bitcoin on: January 10, 2023, 12:06:20 AM
As a financial advisor by trade, I would like to chime in here.  I would never recommend my clients "invest" in anything that is very volatile, especially something that is an entirely new asset class, like cryptocurrency is.  The "middle-class" typically does not fall in to the category of not being able to afford to invest/lose money in bitcoin.  Typically the middle class has a little bit of extra income to try and hit those "home run" investments.

Always make sure you've got a sound portfolio established that's on track for retirement with traditional investments ( 401k's , IRA's, brokerage accounts etc) as well as a safety net of money in case you lose your job or something of that nature.  Then, when you've established these, it's time to be able to invest in things like bitcoin.
1815  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Kialara... to load or not to load? on: January 09, 2023, 11:48:25 PM
I loaded one of my Kialara Labyrinth's years back, before any forks had taken place, and I unfortunately decided to sell it.  My thought was this is a great way to force yourself to lock up bitcoin/hodl, for some time way in the future ( of course in hopes that it is really worth breaking or selling ).  I kind of saw it like purchasing a long term bond.  I will likely load one or two Kialara's soon, now that I think about all this.

Max/Kialara is good buddy, and I trust them, which is one of few coin makers I fully trust.  For whatever that's worth.  Cheers.

1817  Economy / Gambling discussion / NCAA Football National Championship Game - TCU vs Georgia - Betting Thoughts on: January 09, 2023, 11:43:58 PM
Tonight the Georgia Bulldogs take on the TCU Horned Frogs for the NCAA college football National Championship game.  As of right now, the Georgia Bulldogs are a sizable favorite, as the line for the game is Georgia at -13.5pts.  The Over/Under for the game is at 62.5 points.

So what do you guys think.  Have any good bets in mind for the game tonight? I'm not sure which way to bet myself. I would find it pretty hard to bet on Georgia to cover 13.5 pts, which is quite a bit.

Thoughts?

I second that this will be the most entertaining game of the night ( of course NBA game, as the NCAAF National Championship game is going on and should be quite entertaining).  As a Bulls fan, I'm looking forward to this game as they've been finally playing quite well and as you've noted Lavine has been balling.

I'm not sure there's any chance the Bulls actually trade their max-contract player, but that certainly would be interesting.  If they were to do this, I of course would hope that they traded Demar / Vuc etc.
1819  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anyone making 4 or 5 digits (USD) monthly from Crypto Sports betting? on: January 09, 2023, 11:34:16 PM
You're using all sorts of terms I do not understand, so obviously I do not fit in to the category of making 4 or 5 digits monthly from Crypto Sports betting.  I do know the casino I advertise for on my profile (Duelbits) does a great job of making this easy as well as Bovada, which I have also used for many years.  There are some months where I've cashed out a good bit, without any issues, but not on a consistent basis.
1820  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: January 09, 2023, 04:34:18 AM
There were some leagues I saw where they decided that they would set up a Madden match, build the teams with their same fantasy players, whoever wins, takes it down lol.

I couldn’t be happier about the Bears losing and the Texans winning. It feels pretty good as a Bears fan going in to the off-season with a quarterback who just might be legitimate as well as having the #1 overall pick. I assume they will trade the pick, but of course I expect some very nice draft capital back in return.

Green Bay Packers losing to the Detroit Lions was icing on the cake.  Maybe Rodgers should focus on building a better team around him rather than his main focus being the top paid quarterback in the league. Enjoy the playoffs from your couch Aaron Smiley
