18023  Economy / Speculation / Re: Say bye to Triple Digits on: March 27, 2017, 12:56:45 PM

The recent pumps and dumps of bitcoin it's heaven for experienced traders, because (without no offence to anyone) current market is full of noobs driven by emotions which panic sell with every little price change. And those pro traders, who then buy low are laughing hard. Wink

I have been HODLing my bitcoins for forever, and I never sold, not even when the price dropped to $250ish after having reached $1300. I don't give a damn, I don't sell for price swings up or down.
But just recently I did sell 25% of my coins and exchanged them for altcoins, because I am getting sick and tired of this blocksize debate, and it's hurting bitcoin.

If this debate isn't resolved soon, bitcoin will die from it.

And the worst thing is, is that bitcoin core had the responsibility to avoid this debate, and they failed. Yet they still have support of many people, even though they failed the one job they had.
[/quote]

With you on this, most of us who've been HODLing will continue to hold, perhaps with some appetite to add to our stock when the price dips to more "affordable" levels. I hardly think those who've been in it for the long haul would feel any concern for price this year. The only significant event was the new high, and that is overall good news.

You're also probably not alone in diversifying to some of the more established alts now, however, what with all the blocksize wars going on. Makes me wish I had a bit more capital to manage that strategy.

Hi guys. today i will pay the last votes for tradesatoshi.
Tomorow only votes for Poswallet get a reward because poswallet open exchange. This site is now more interesting for us. Smiley

thx for your help guys.

OK boss, I still think it's better to have as many exchanges as possible but we will follow your logic =).

So today I put my last vote for Tradesatoshi... and update is below
1. Tradesatoshi: #104, #107, #113, # 119, #123, #128 and #133 (7 votes to date). #133 will be the final vote as OP says this is the last day for rewards on TS.

2. Poswallet: #113, #122, #128, #133, #146 and #160 (5 votes to date).

18025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [HELP] Indian Member of Parliment is Seeking Public Opinion On Bitcoin on: March 27, 2017, 09:17:36 AM
Current opinion in the Indian Parliament is that bitcoin is a ponzi scheme. This is a statement put forward by the ruling party currently.
He said:

"The use of Bitcoin, a hypothetical currency, is increasing at a rapid speed in India as well as in the world. Experts have expressed concern that Bitcoin is a pyramid ponzi type scheme. This issue should be taken very seriously and there is [an] urgent need to have a study on development of Bitcoin in India. There is no regulator. As it is functioning like [a] currency and seems like [a] Ponzi scheme, RBI and SEBI as well as Finance Ministry to take [the] appropriate step to save the people from another big ponzi fraud."

My opinion is that he is trying to cast bitcoin out of India is that it is a kind of currency which cannot be taxed and thus government doesnt get any income from that sort of thing. I think this move should be staunchly opposed as this might result in the banning of BTC in India pretty soon.

Political stance in India is probably very different from public opinion (perhaps though, political parties can sway public opinion if not outright determine it) and any sampling of opinion online would probably reach the very upper middle class at lowest. The current administration seems to be heavy-handed even with the Rupee but as usual, politics is better spent creating distractions from real economic problems.
18026  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Get Bitcoins Sent To Your Wallet Any Time You Spend Bitcoins Online On A Website on: March 27, 2017, 09:10:22 AM
Thanks for the very detailed response in PM OP. The pay structure for some services still isn't very clear, you'd need to be better with this to attract users. In any case, you seem to have some business already and I wish you the best of luck in with your website.
18027  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Coinbase added a fees now on: March 26, 2017, 06:25:54 PM
Time to get used to the idea of having to pay for using a service, people. If it isn't straight up a fee then you'll always end up paying for the service some way or other. No such thing as a free lunch.
18028  Economy / Speculation / Re: So you decide to sell now that Bitcoin is < $1000? on: March 25, 2017, 06:03:16 PM
Well, people like me (people arriving late to the crypto scene, that is) have been hoping for just under $1,000 so we can finally add substantial coins to our wallets. It's completely all right for people to sell, you know. This is what it's all about, isn't it?
18029  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price fall.Where will it stop? on: March 25, 2017, 05:54:24 PM
Bitcoin price is falling rapidly by day,I wonder will it stop falling or will continue till we are back to $1 per btc?
What will happen if hard fork occur?will btc price touch the bottom? Or is it just market manipulation to take advantage of this confusion?

Maybe you just need to look a few months back and see that most people were saying that $800 - $1,000 was the "stable" price for the current and short-term outlook. Bitcoin took everyone by surprise when breaking its previous high and it's really just a matter of logic that it should resettle for the time being.
18030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Recommend me user friendly wallet services in which I can control my public key on: March 25, 2017, 05:05:13 PM
I consider myself quite fortunate as a newbie when googling for a bitcoin wallet that I settled for Electrum to download and install. It was very easy to use, and as I later discovered is perfect for any security concerns. Very lightweight, very quick.

Hi all, update of my votings:

1. Tradesatoshi: #104, #107, #113, # 119 and #123 (5 votes to date). #123 was made after OP announced only paying for poswallet, but hope you can still count all these as we still need many more votes at TS to get listed there!
2. Poswallet: #113 and #122, #128, and #133

18032  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Post your SegWit questions here - open discussion - big week for Bitcoin! on: March 23, 2017, 03:37:05 PM

Hi achow, always respect your answers and insight. If a number of contributors not listed also help decide what goes into Core, how is it that the Hong Kong agreement resulted in a "proposal" by contributors? Does this mean that contributors may have an avenue for opening ideas but a higher layer still calls the shots?
Some contributors (not all, in fact, only 4 IIRC), were at the Hong Kong meeting and are the ones who made the proposal. Any individual can make a proposal, but that does not mean that everyone who works on the project frequently will think that it is a good idea and that everyone will agree to accept the proposal and implement it. There is no "higher up" but rather a group consensus decision.

Where is there documentation on the leadership/direction of "Core". I (think I) understand that decentralisation means just that there is no such thing, but to my uninitiated mind, it seems more a (non-deliberate) lack of transparency rather than decentralisation.
There isn't documentation really, and there really isn't a leadership structure. You can see who is considered a part of the "team" at https://bitcoincore.org/en/team/ but the team does not included everyone who contributes, just those who do so fairly frequently. The leadership consists of the three maintainers as they are the ones who merge everything (and Sipa who has commit access but isn't a maintainer) and I suppose you could say Wladimir is the leader as he is the release maintainer.

Who got to choose who became "Core"? Were they self-appointed?
Basically. People who contribute to Core frequently became noticed by other contributors, and over time, became associated with "Core" as a "Core dev". The only people who were "appointed" were the three maintainers, and only because they were basically doing the position that they were given for a while before they were actually given the titile. E.g Wladimir was setting out release schedules, release TODOs, release notes, and making releases themselves for a while before Gavin officially gave him the title. Jonasschnelli was submitting wallet and GUI pulls and reviewing other wallet and GUI pulls for a long time and he basically became the final say on wallet and GUI related stuff for them to be merged or not until Wladimir eventually made him the wallet and GUI maintainer. The same thing happened with MarcoFalke for him to become the QA maintainer.

Thanks, as always, for taking the time to say it simply. It really is interesting to realise that a lot of what bitcoin is is done voluntarily - though of course one has to think it is paying dividends to the maintainers at least, as it sounds almost like a full-time job.

So I've more or less established the de facto "who are in charge", but do they have a succession plan? What happens if these three very important maintainers suddenly disappear or stop their work (let's not say death but disappearance, maybe like Nakamoto). Is there enough information and resource for someone else to pick things up? And must the devs achieve group consensus on succession?
18033  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CKS]Chicks, very rare!! | vote for chicks and get reward!! on: March 23, 2017, 11:24:24 AM
Ok guys i send the first rewards.
Maybe i forget some people. Later i double check.

In the next week we only start to reward poswallet because their exchange going life Smiley

reward received - thanks, in meantime #116 on Tradesatoshi

can we have some more details about poswallet here, never heard about them.

It's an online wallet staking service for Proof of Stake coins. Basically, you open an account with them and store your PoS coins on their wallet if it supports your coin. They're supposed to just use all your coins for staking, and they share the new coins mined with you. In short, you don't have to open your own wallet and stake, you just let POSWallet site do it for you.
18034  Economy / Economics / Re: If bitcoin price is $10.000, will fiat be worthless? on: March 23, 2017, 09:42:22 AM
Tell you all what, when we stop quoting crypto value in fiat and fiat all over the world start quoting their respective values against bitcoin, then maybe we can think about this question. When people ask if USD price is 0.000001 BTC and every market starts doing their spreads in satoshi, yeah, then we're on our way!
18035  Economy / Economics / Re: Trump tax on foreign remittances could open market share for Bitcoin on: March 23, 2017, 09:38:45 AM
If Trump decides to tax remittance payments from people in the US to people in other countries, these people could seek ways to send the money without paying the tax. I believe Bitcoin can make that happen!

In the US the remittances to Mexico alone total $27B annually. Imagine if that kind of volume all of a sudden was being flowed through Bitcoin. That would be incredible!

How do we spread the word that this is an option if Trump begins to tax these Dollars?

http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/20/news/economy/mexico-remittances-trump/index.html

Great idea, and if you look at many countries which supply workers to the developing world, so much money is being sent home via remittance. It is Philippine's single largest contributor to income as well, and a large percentage of GDP. But changing fiat to bitcoin and for the families back home to change it back to fiat would mean they already lose out at least 5% of their income - and then how do you avoid tax on currency exchange?

Perhaps the way to go is to encourage employers to pay wages in bitcoin.
18036  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Digital Footprint Foundation - Recruitment Thread - Bounties Available on: March 22, 2017, 04:45:13 PM
Hello everyone.

I'm posting to inform that I applied for one of the positions and, following a very good Skype call with OP/President/Lead, have formally joined the nascent foundation (shall I just say DFF from now?) team as PR Lead / Editor - Non-Profit SME.

This is only a personal update to introduce myself to the members of this forum with interest in the goals of DFF and to give an idea about what I'll bring to the team. By way of caution, what I post should not yet be taken as definitive information about the Foundation nor its directions as that should wait for a proper ANN thread. However, I hope that my profile will help you see more of what DFF hopes to become.

Professional Background

- More than a decade working with international aid organisations in post-conflict, disaster response and recovery in the Global South. Some of my most challenging projects were the 2004 Asian Tsunami (Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh), major earthquakes (2006 Pakistan and 2009 Indonesia), the "superfloods" of 2010 in Pakistan and most recently a cholera outbreak amidst civil war in South Sudan (2015/16).
- I am an accountability specialist (within project management) and most of my field work focuses on monitoring and evaluation of community-driven projects in the areas of water and sanitation, shelter and livelihoods. I am also involved in proposal and grant management for these projects, on one end negotiating with high-level donors and governments and on the other, training impoverished communities to implement activities.
- I was a journalist and news bureau chief for two years in Brunei, one of the most media-restricted countries in the world.
- I am currently pursuing an MA in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration.

What I see my role as within DFF
To be perfectly honest, my personal technical knowledge of the crypto world is limited - I have owned and known of crypto for only as long as my forum account has existed (today, just over six months). That been said, I can offer my real-world experience and perspective of non-profit work on the ground, where needs are the most urgent and funding is becoming increasingly difficult.

As OP has posted, our community faces a credibility issue as perceived by the masses. We lack the representation and positive PR that, unfortunately, is necessary for us to be taken seriously.

To start with, I hope to assist with DFF's formation in terms of focused publicity: getting the right messages out to targeted audiences. It may be that my nominal technical know-how of crypto will be a blessing in disguise - our messages must be clear in content, technically sound, yet simple enough to effectively get our desired responses.

As OP stated: DFF will not be a DAPP nor an ICO, but it will face the same challenges of any new project launching. How will it maintain momentum and interest? How will it manage expectations? I hope to assist with those non-technical parts of DFF.

That's all from me for now. Cheers!

18037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miner cartel, Bankster cartel, or an altcoin? Your choice? on: March 22, 2017, 01:45:41 PM
I voted, fully confident I'd be voting for the most-chosen result. And I was wrong. I suppose one should congratulate you for making your point so well, if I can assume your arguments led to the swing in votes.

I am a new crypto user and do hold several alts, but only in negligible amounts. The bulk of my coin is still BTC and always will be, if for no other reason except that it is the most recognised.
18038  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Post your SegWit questions here - open discussion - big week for Bitcoin! on: March 22, 2017, 12:33:41 PM
Who does, represent Bitcoin Core?
No one really represents Core. The closest you could get to "who represents Core" I suppose would be everyone listed on https://bitcoincore.org/en/team/ but any decision about what goes into Core is made by the entire group, plus a number of contributors not listed on that page.

What are Core, bound by?
Nothing really. There is no obligation for Core to do anything and nothing that requires them to do anything. There is a moral obligation for them to do "what is right for Bitcoin", but that is subjective.

Where is there documentation on the leadership/direction of "Core". I (think I) understand that decentralisation means just that there is no such thing, but to my uninitiated mind, it seems more a (non-deliberate) lack of transparency rather than decentralisation.

Who got to choose who became "Core"? Were they self-appointed?

P.S. This thread has really picked up in the last week and that's been really good for learning for most people like myself.
18039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why not treat BU as Alt? on: March 22, 2017, 11:18:35 AM

Do  you  realize that if BU forks with majority hash power, it will be the longest chain... but also the 1mb version will be 4-5x as slow (40-50 minute blocks) and difficulty wont adjust for as long as 8-10 weeks?

That's interesting... although with the blocks taking four to five times as long to find, perhaps it will need a bit of time before it can overtake core as the one with the longest chain. Also, I predict a lot of people who had held off getting into mining will jump in to fill the void left by BU jumping ship... so perhaps hashpower will only be a temporary issue for core.

I just wondering how about if I used 0.1 btc to invest. Will it bring you any decent profit like that? Because to afford that 1 btc is prett hard for me right now since there is always risk in gambling, mostly I lose every balance that I have. Saw that crypto-games investing progress is on good track, might do some invest there

Hey there, I'm a fellow investor at CGN with my own thread in this same forum section, and the good thing about this site is that it doesn't matter how much you invest (other than that you have to meet the minimum and for BTC that's 0.01). You'll still earn the same percentage as all investors. This means that had you invested BTC at the exact same time as Twistedx2, your deposit would have grown 8.64% to date, just like his.
