18101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open Letter to GMaxwell and Sincere Rational Core Devs on: March 02, 2017, 07:44:19 AM
So there is no place to explain to the people that are working on the direction of bitcoin, that they are wholly ignoring the macro-economic implications of it?
Did you not read what I wrote? You can go to the IRC channel and talk there. You can also go to the #bitcoin-dev channel and talk there generally to anyone working on anything related to Bitcoin, not just Core. You can also post on the bitcoin-dev mailing list. There are many places to discuss economic implications of technical details. However you may not get any response as most of the people who work on Core (or any Bitcoin software) are software developers, not economists.
I read it, I just an unfamiliar with it, and am not convinced it's an appropriate place for me to be since i'm not a dev.

While I can empathise with you on what I myself have found to be (what I guess I might call) premature pre-emptive defensive attitudes of many otherwise knowledgeable technical people - you should also realise when someone is trying to sincerely help you out. You're pointed in the right direction but insist that you're unfamiliar and unconvinced - then where do we go from there?

In any case, implying that only one dev is sincere and rational by the title of the thread isn't a show of sincerity in itself. I think most technically knowledgeable people (including non devs) in crypto are sincere and rational, if not always friendly and open to what they deem is unacceptable ignorance on the part of the majority.

Hello there.

Always interested in trader offers likes yours (managed accounts to be specific) but find that they don't seem to last long on this forum. Anyway, tried logging into the account to view your live trades but the username and password does not seem to work. Simplefx also seems a bit heavy on my browser.

18103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CKS]Chicks, very rare!! | vote for chicks and get reward!! on: March 01, 2017, 11:46:06 AM
Tradesatoshi is very small exchange. No point in buying votes there. Just vote and we get there.

I was talking about POSwallet, which requires 1000 votes to be listed. At the current rate of 1 vote per week, you'd need 25 members 40 weeks (10 months) to get listed. I think it's worth on POSW just to get more people staking the coin there (I'd vest all my CKS there if they had a wallet!)

OP, thanks for the payment, well received. Looking forward to the new faucet.
18104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: March 01, 2017, 11:31:29 AM
Announcing the entrance of a hitherto unsung self-proclaimed anti-hero of Crypto Kingdom: Sojourner.

Indeed, a fool's move to post first before setting even a first exploratory foot into the Kingdom, yet Sojourner made his name by consistently making - and surviving - an amazing variety of fool's moves.

Sojourner expresses surprise, having thought by the thread title that he was entering 1991, when he was 11, but feels more at home in a 16th century setting so is somewhat pleased with making this entrance.

Off to the tutorial.
18105  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What are the requirements to be "Escrow"? on: March 01, 2017, 08:51:20 AM
This would be a tough thing for an individual who would tend to be an escrow since the competition now is high and there are lots of reputable escrows in the forum. Well its not bad to start an escrow service but people would definitely choose first who are older ones which they could saw thats reliable enough among other just like those starters.

Yeah, I really don't see a way for a complete newbie to gain entrance into this current circle of escrowing. I would think the best route is to start off as a user offering paid services and to gain trust that way. Then to act as a conduit for others selling similar services. Otherwise, scout around the forum for people offering small services for small fees, offer a free escrow first to gain trust?

It's basically a building of trust and reputation.
18106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Person? on: March 01, 2017, 08:46:26 AM
Interesting concept, especially given that in real world social science, the individual is much more difficult to predict once singled out of the group. It could be technically more complex to implement but that to me seems more of a one-time hurdle. At the moment, simple steps like unique email/phone verification can be bypassed easily.

What about borrowing once more from the real world? Biometrics. I would rather give out my unique fingerprint for verification than a passport or ID card, for example.
18107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Electronic Gulden [EFL] vs Guldencoin [NLG] - which Dutch coin do you support? on: February 28, 2017, 11:51:25 AM
Since both coins are clearly capitalist and we're talking about profitability here and which one will "win" in terms of price - oh wait, we're supposed to answer which coin do we support?

Anyway, I see no harm in Guldencoin's tactics in marketing. Saying you're better than your direct competitor works in the sense of profiteering we're all keen to debate. I'd love for more services to be like that as a consumer.

But from the point of advocating, of course, I'd also support EFL.
18108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Mainstreet Investment LP (MIT) SECURITIZED BLOCKCHAIN ASSET 🌟 SALE NOW LIVE!🌟 on: February 28, 2017, 11:42:36 AM
I've actually been watching this thread, and then completely forgot to remind myself of the ICO start date. What's surprising is that it's already raised some 1,300 ETH at the time of writing, despite the verification documents needed (I'm in a country listed as needing to provide a copy of my National ID).

Perhaps if there were a bit more relaxation on that particular part, I wouldn't mind putting my measly ETH into this as a first-time ICO entrant. I'm certain I won't be the only one refraining just because of this single hurdle.

Nevertheless, retaining interest in this thread.

Nice idea for the daily chest, looks like I really need to get my villages up and running now to make all them lovely resources to buy APs.
18110  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 1 Confirmation versus 6 on: February 28, 2017, 10:52:55 AM
Wrong. There is a chance that a 2 block chain will be orphaned. Maybe a miner found 2 blocks a little bit late, and managed to find the third one quickest, orphaning the 2 blocks before. The chance is extremely low, but is a risk to some. There also is the chance that a pool owner might discuss with an attacker, and only confirm blocks without their transactions inside for BTC. I'm not sure what the longest chain that has been orphaned is, but I'm guessing a 2 block orphan has happened before.

There were 2 significant events that caused large forks.

Other than those, I have seen a 2-block orphan happen 8 times since 2012. I have seen a 3-block orphan only 2 times. No 4 or 5-block orphans, but we did have a 6-block orphan happen once.

Very good explanation as originally offered by Herbert2020 which summarises that the majority of users like us only need a single confirmation. Even the risk from a 2-confirmation tx was considered small in 2014, much more so today in 2017. I can easily see how progressively larger txs would require progressively more confirms.

I'd be interested to know how we might find these 3-block or even 6-block orphan you mentioned. What was the story behind that 6-block orphan?
18111  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Poll] What's your Bitcoin Personality Archetype? on: February 28, 2017, 10:44:44 AM
I don't really fit into any category above. If I could create a category, mine would be "hobbyist" - I hold some crypto but due to economic reasons cannot seriously bank any coins to either be a "hodler" or a "smart-money".

However, whatever crypto I do obtain, I have held most. A small portion, about 10% perhaps, I gamble with or buy small services online. I suspect the majority of users here are like me.
18112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CKS]Chicks, very rare!! | vote for chicks and get reward!! on: February 28, 2017, 10:34:01 AM
Not sure what happened but seems the price has stabilised a bit, perhaps thanks to some back efforts by ricardo as mentioned. Added my vote #78 to tradesatoshi. Going to need a lot more users at POSW to hit the 1000 mark though, especially with only 1 vote a week allowed. Any plans to just buy those votes up?

Update:
TS votes 61,69,73 and 78. There were others but I forgot.
POSW: vote #33

18113  Economy / Economics / Re: Capitalism on: February 27, 2017, 02:37:27 PM
One good point posted by Docnaster is that people should promote local products and more important buy local. It doesn't make sense to import products from the opposite of the world. Why buy milk from 10 hours driving when there are farmers in you area. Farmers who struggle to sell their milk for a decent price (as for exemple in Europe the price is controlled by europe, farmers don't decide the price they want to sell, crazy isn't?) There are farmers who for exemple, producing 1L of milk cost them 0.50$ and they are forced to sell it at $0.35. Where are the profits ?
If the big firms were acting like this they would go bankrupt in no time... There are farmers working 60 hours per week and earning less than someone lazy ass and feed by the gov. money each month. Now since some years there are companies that finally realized buying local not only help the local economy but it cost them cheaper at the end. Less import cost, less this, less that.

It is not the fault of big milk companies but we cannot blame the farmers either or the government. But the moment we saw this problems at hand we must in our power to do something about it. The thing we should do is to organize the farmers and create an association and tap the government for assistance. That way those farmers will upgrade their technology while increasing production and capturing a large market.
The majority of Western countries pay subsidies to agricultural workers. I don't know why under capitalism choose such a strategy. This leads to the fact that the price of food is very low and the farmers are always under threat of ruin.

Capitalism is also about extremely good marketing, which to me works to reverse the traditional supply and demand rule. I lived for most of my life in Asia, where food products from Europe are marketed as "better" than local produce. Marketing makes a product like muesli suddenly desirable when local fresh produce is a fraction of the cost but people suddenly demand European products because they now believe they need them.

Capitalist marketing creates demand, and then gets the supply to meet it. Local produce is driven down in price to attract more sales but it never works.
18114  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: New FreeBits bitcoin app Get free Bitcoin on: February 27, 2017, 02:29:09 PM
I don't mind trying out these new apps, especially if they're quite lightweight (this version only needs 16MB). Sharing my initial experience:

Each of the 8 faucet will show you 1/2 videos of 20-30 seconds each, after which the reward is given in the following amounts:

0.0000001 BTC
0.00001 LTC
0 DOGE (No reward)
0.00005 PPC
0.000001 ETH
0.00002 DASH
0.00005 XPM
0.00002 XMR

First impression: not worth the time compared to other faucets. Roughly 100 satoshis or less for 8 minutes. But if you really like the idea of small dust, it's relatively clean.
18115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Travel Standard - Blockchain Travel Service Recruitment Thread on: February 27, 2017, 01:59:32 PM
Before I send a PM (with interest in one of the positions), would you be able to furnish some basic details on remuneration? Hopefully, this will be in existing crypto and not tokens - or at least in part. It will be quite difficult to hold down anyone working only for tokens, as promising as it sounds at the moment!
18116  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Dragon Knights of Valeria - Get paid to play! BTC/LTC/HTML5/HYPER/GP/MOON/RBIES on: February 27, 2017, 11:40:54 AM
Nice a pay to play game that pays in altcoins amazing o.O
And more importantly it's an MMORPG base game this is i guess the first, ive ever seen. I just have a few questions:

Is this a 2D Animation like the web game AQworlds? or its 3D ?
Sorry i havent look at the game yet cause im using a smartphone.
Can i earn altcoin in doing some quest and how much would i earn from doing a normal quest?

I've been playing for over a month now - just restarting actively. I'm more of a hobbyist than a hardcore gamer, so that means I spend perhaps an hour or so per day. It doesn't take long to Level up to 15 which lets you do a lot of significant things. My tip is to wait a bit til you get the EXP bonus from the Chat bonus. It bumps you up the levels in no time at all, allowing you to explore a bit farther.

I haven't earned a LOT of alts from the game, but I should say that for the fun, humour and gamesmanship, it's a lot more worth than dust from faucets. As replied above, the in-game Dragon Points are what you might want to gun for as a serious gamer. That in the long run is worth a lot of crypto.

18118  Economy / Speculation / Re: Get ready to buy on: February 26, 2017, 01:48:19 PM
A mid-term correction has been due for a while, ever since the turn of Christmas - the surprise was that the dip after New Year disappeared so quickly. It's hard NOT to see a return to mid800 and 900 in 2017, even if it has to be only temporary. Bitcoin is in a position of strength now but we've all seen over the years how unexpected (or now shall we say expected) events such as significant security incidents on major exchanges can deal a blow to crypto value.
18119  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Multiple Kraken Accounts, Robbed/Emptied. Kraken say "Fuck you, its your loss" on: February 26, 2017, 01:44:25 PM
There's always that risk of storing crypto online, in site wallets, a lesson that should have been learnt many times over from the past security incidents (I don't want to say again but let's say MG). It's an acceptable risk for myself, having small amounts of coins in various site wallets - easy access and long-term savings on transaction fees - but the point is never to keep the coins you can't afford to compromise in anything other than a wallet you secure yourself.

Overall, bad news for the community, but hardly a surprise.
18120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Chain of Points - Transforming Loyalty Into Rewards on: February 25, 2017, 12:15:54 PM
Just came back to internet and bct, and have applied to the signature campaign for CoP, so will of course be looking forward to developments that I'm helping to promote here.

Reading the tweet/post on loyalty points is possibly one of the truths we can all relate to: never using up loyalty points. Every few years I am in a country and sign up for perhaps 3 or 4 new loyalty cards and collect points which I never end up using. If CoP can find a way to unite this industry, it's going to be an easy sell to people like me.

Good luck!
