I feel really bad as I always seem to have around 200 sMerits to award, In fact I've had a few difficulties recently, so I'm up to about 250 at the moment. Maybe I'm too strict in applying my rules for good posting behaviour. Have you considered sending more per post? Theymos recommends you empty your source: If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down. I don't really agree with this though: it wouldn't look good to to just dump 50 Merit on a Newbie with one post, but doubling or tripping the amount per post would make sense if that's what you need to empty your source.

I tried to report the last 5 pages (45-49) out of boredom and for additional help to in cleaning the forum. What will happen to those newbie accounts who just created for the sake of giveaway that have been reported? Thanks I don't think anything will happen: posting in Games and Rounds for a Bitcoin giveaway is not against the rules, even when the site is a ponzi/scam. Posting multiple times in a row with alt-accounts is against the rules, but Mods won't have conclusive evidence for that either.

Allow me to add data on users in this topic from Most generous recent merit senders: 560: LoyceV 266: micgoossens 226: ETFbitcoin 169: LFC_Bitcoin 152: o_e_l_e_o 106: nutildah 97: 1miau 88: Quickseller 72 or lower: Alex_Sr (not in the Top 50)
I've added myself to the list too. I'm one spot above bones261, while I know he has a larger source amount. In January, mine was increased from 200 to 400 sMerit. This topic makes me realize once more that's a luxurious position to be in ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) At the increase, I expected I'd have to give more than 1 Merit per post to empty it, but I'm still giving just 1 most of the time. I do merit more posts though. If I'm "slacking" for just a few days, there's a huge amount piling up that feels like my duty to quickly distribute. I've been working hard to get "my own stash" down, it peaked at 560 recently, and is now down to 477. I often find myself deliberately rationing my sMerits so I have some to award in the coming days. I do that on my mobile ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) And I often post my own name from mobile to use Maggiordome to summon myself to Merit a post. I've considered applying my Mobile to be a source too, I think hilariousetc did that too.

Reminder for those that have forgotten: activity requires at least one post per 2-week period in order to gain the potential (and subsequently true) activity. Erase all those posts... and poof, you've used maybe 5% of the amount of time that they have to rubberband them back to 0 for that period. I don't think Mods appreciate reporting long-forgotten posts: Shouldn't it be considered a good thing if people start reporting more bad posts?
Not really. There's a couple of users who have just started frantically spamming the report queue recently with hundreds of reports a day probably because theymos announced the possibility of merit badges. It's clear some of them are actually just looking for things to report because they're reporting old threads that haven't been posted in for ages just to be 'locked' or spam posts from ages ago. Just saw one report from January on a spam post. Is that really essential? Nobody will see or miss that post whether it's there or not. Do I really need to waste my time deleting hundreds of posts long buried in a bounty thread? All it does is swamp the queue with things that are either going to take a long time to handle or not get handled at all and increases the chances of us missing something important that needs handling urgently.

What kinda solution? Any preference you'd share here to make us aware of it? I was thinking of something like KeePass (or KeePassX), or TrueCrypt (although I didn't know until now it's discontinued). What IF: - I've only stored my keys on paper wallet(s) and it is the only source that's prone to fire, water and tearing? You'll need another backup at another location to be safe. I still haven't found the right balance between "the risk of having a wallet compromised" and "the risk of losing access myself". Well, I have a balance, but it still doesn't make me feel totally at easy. On a side note, what's a steel wallet and how does it work? Can it help me save money on one hand while also providing me the level of security needed to store such sensitive data? Basically, any piece of steel with a private key stamped into it will do. You can get a cheap letter punch on eBay, but most sets don't have lower case letters.

I don't like how I got roped into it just by replying to the thread. That's why I've added the earned Merit to the list, it makes it quite obvious who's not very likely to be a spammer. If I'd update the list now, I'd be in it too. You counted the titles, too? :/
Indeed. Not the best way in this case ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) You are a machine LOL. Added to my list ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) I was taking a piss on that guy :-P Being on that list doesn't mean much (unless you're a spammer) ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) I often end up including the ones who warn against a scam.

I'm a professional dice player and have earned 200btc in the last 4 months playing on sites such as Primedice stake.com Bustabit and Bustadice. I have a temporary cash flow issue which will resolve itself by the end of July. So you're saying you have a foolproof system that earned more than 2 million dollars, but you can't balance your checkbook so you're asking for more than a thousand dollar to gamble with? Sounds legit The last person who offered such a service added a live stream of a stripping girl to sweeten the deal ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) ---
Wrong account? LoyceV was this post originally something different? Afraid that someone will kidnap you to make you play dice for them? Seriously, what disadvantages? (I remove quotes before storing posts)

You could combine software that monitors webpages (such as visualping) with a block explorer (such as blockchain.com). Once you've set it up, you'll receive an email when there's a change.

To do that you need to send all of your balance to another address or use the same address if you like but with a very higher transaction fee so that the other transaction with the low fee will be mined at the same time. Correct. But since the remaining amount is only 0.00005090 BTC, there's not much to work with. It could be "burned" as fee entirely (the value is less than the 1 dollar OP wants to spend on it), but I doubt blockchain.info allows that.

I doubt running Bitcointalk is that resource intensive. I think you could be very wrong here ![Shocked](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/shocked.gif) This topic has 192 views, this page is 176 kB in size. Most data is created on the fly. I'm no expert, but I expect there's quite some server power behind it.

If any1 can help me mine that, I can pay 1$ fees. You might be able to use RBF (Replace by Fee) or CPFP (Child pays for Parent, assuming 1fNh9H58oKapPnGm8b7HZAK4yZh9mdkVC is your change address), but I'm not sure how to do exactly this on blockchain.info's web wallet. Alternatively, if you're not in a hurry, wait for the weekend. Usually, the required fee is lowest on Sunday, so I expect your transaction to confirm in 3 days.

Yes, bill gator was initially banned but later the ban was reverted and he received a 2 year signature ban. The current owner of "bill gator" didn't plagiarize, that's why his ban was lifted and his signature ban removed by theymos.

I've made mistake and I understand that. Now all that's left is accepting your punishment. There are thousands of accounts like yours. Instead of contributing to this forum, you steal other people's content to earn money. You won't be missed, so you won't be unbanned.

Merchants transact in fiat, Most immediately convert BTC to fiat upon receipt making sure they don't lose money on btc instability. Lightning network is even worse as the time locks insure no quick fiat conversion.
Meaning if a Merchant does use LN, they do it thru a 3rd party service that offers almost instant fiat conversion. That's basically the same as the current situation: most merchants use a payment processor to take care of the Bitcoin transaction, and get paid directly in fiat. I don't even think the merchant has to choose for LN, once his payment processor accepts it, it gets added just like some merchants accept many different altcoins.

However I'd like to try the bruteforce to a certain extent, at least to be content that I tried that option too. Have you considered contacting a specialist? See Bitcoin Wallet Recovery Services - for forgotten wallet password for Dave's topic on walletrecoveryservices.com. Unless the password is too difficult, they'll have the computing power and knowledge to brute-force it. I haven't tried (nor needed) his services, but from what I've seen, he's legit. Note that there are many "recovery services" that I wouldn't trust at all too, so be very careful which one you use!
