18321  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: November 24, 2018, 03:51:09 PM
This was my suspicion too. Some as we've seen have already thrown in the towel, but there's sure to be others who're willing and financially able to dig in and mine, counting on a significant price recovery not too far away. Those patient in the past were rewarded, it's not just the buyers and holders who're the permabulls, buying and holding and gritting their teeth. Sure to be a handful of hardcore miners in that camp.

Hey I got a piece of the solar array with buysolar  my gear always profits.

50-50 coin split   so 100th of btc gear = 50th for no cost  the diff drop  helps the array as we are power capped at 20kwatts.

I am not the only solar miner.  if you opened a solar array  in 2016 the runup last year was great.
18322  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: November 24, 2018, 03:16:43 PM
Loving the drop in diff though my concern is if the hashrate continues to decline on BTC are we not running the risk of allowing  2nd chain to catch up in Log2(POW)  if an attacker has been "covert" building upon a 2nd secret chain could this not allow for a much easier 51% attack in the future if things continue to decline.

While it might be a good thing for some in the short term the drop in hash and diff I think there is something we are missing here.

my theory is hashnest manipulated market.

quite a bit.

they loaded it with s11's (they are real)

back in feb/march

still charged  all s9 owners of hashnest  power fees based on s9 power cost say 100 watts a th.  not the 70 watts  a th the s11 uses.

they then sold the s9s as s9i's  with pcb dipped and cleaned  and new fans.  this is how they sold all those cheapo s9i's and s9j's  for months on end.

so  from march to nov 1  they made  extra on the hashnest  gear and turned over the s9's  they were fully roi'd

has to be 10 to 20 percent of the network.

now price is crashing and they are offloading s11's  but not to the states

some s11 photos

Does anyone know when the softwares gonna be released? I received my acorn yesterday (and had to pay $60 in customs) but its pretty much a paper weight without the SQRL mining software.

ive heard next week. we will see.

btw just got my order in too. pretty lights is all they do at the moment..

So they gave you all a toy with no software?

I will hold my tongue to say anything bad right now.

I will say I took a lot of abuse  fomr a lot of people saying I was too hard on gpu_hoarder in the early parts of the thread.

Hmm this  something like Take your order mid june deliver in july.

that became  take your order mid july deliver in august .

then deliver in sept
then deliver in oct

finally delivery starts in late nov

but no software..

Yeah not for me I guess I was not hard enough .

Maybe working software shows next week good luck to all.
18324  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: US Tariff Ruling N297495 = 2.6% mandatory tariff on bitcoin mining hardware on: November 24, 2018, 02:02:20 AM
ah...back in the day I did pay fees on miners coming in....so perhaps it will not be much of an issue in my case ....(fingers cross)

currently selling at the Black Friday low ...its how I roll....got to stay retired next year...what are the rest of you doing?

the needs must when the devil drives....don't ya know

Anyway. I just think we are gonna see quite a big weekend dump....

brad

I think i will end up paying about 800 to fed ex.  maybe less.

I just grabbed a good black friday deal   a 2 tb ssd for 286 - 57 coupon = 229  - 4% rebate = 219.84 for this 2 tb ssd.

all in all last year was a good year this year not too good.

everyone above 7 cents is dead.

Now bitmain had a huge Hashnest operation which was around 8cents for power and said it was s9's.
I think they simply shut that down this would cause the drop.
I also think they would ask quite a bit for the miner to get shipped to you.  So you will say no then
they could simple mine  the gear now  and if they are 4 cent power they make money on it.

Happy ThanksGiving as always I want to thank my eye surgon  for repairing my cataratcts if it were 1950 I would be pretty much blind.  Instead I will be looking at the parade shortly.

I also want to mention thanks for 2017 and the rise of crypto.

Lot of blood in the water  sharks are circling.
18333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: November 21, 2018, 04:16:29 PM
I'd say it was a GOOD thing if Bitmain got out. They're such a toxic terrible company and influence.

Toxic and terrible is not exactly what is wrong with just them it is mostly  all asic companies they were fucking morons and ate their babies (altcoins)  with all the asics they built.

BY doing this  along with forking btc  they revealed all the weaknesses of BTC

Dilution of btc  from 1 to 3 chains = fucked up

Destroying  all the gpu alts via asics = fucked up.

So the smarter guy now knows  holding  any alt for anytime is high risk.  What does he do he  gets a few buddies  and manipulates whatever coin he pleases.

As of now any coin  can be attacked  big time  making   large drops and nice short money for those in the know.
18334  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 21, 2018, 01:28:33 PM
I have a folder for my windows mining it is on desktop I call it virus free.  I exclude it from windows defender.

in that folder I have cgminer folder I exclude it from windows defender.

I copy that set of nested folders  to   a usb stick. for  backup

I then will do   a new folder call it  new cgminer  put it in  the desktop set of folders.

So

{virus free folder} -----( cgminer folder + new cgminer folder)

I then test both versions against each other for a day

Lastly I make a new usb stick  with  the new and older folders for backup
18335  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 21, 2018, 02:46:02 AM
I expect the efficiency to be better. The worst-case efficiency with the chips I'd be using is on par with the best-case (meaning, bottom voltage and AB enabled) for the NewPac's BM1387. Couple that with only one regulation step (12V->5V instead of 12V->5V->0.83V) at a higher efficiency (upwards of 95%) and it should be markedly better.

yeah I got a meter on the stick at the plug 1.1 to 1.3 amps at 5.1 volts  that would be 5.61 to 6.63 watts at the usb plug.

at the kwatt meter 24.2/3 = 8.0667 watts so  82 % efficient at the high number 70% at the low since it fluxes  say 76% eff.  from wall to usb plug.

if it were 95% or even 90 %  these sticks would be at 21 watts not 24 watts   maybe 20 watts at the kill-a-watt

since they could do 57-60 gh at freq 250

I could do 180gh at 20 watts
Not 180gh at 24-25 watts

3 sticks
18336  Economy / Speculation / Re: $2000 prospective low for bitcoin says Bitmex CEO Arthur Hayes on: November 21, 2018, 02:02:12 AM
$3,400 & $1,900 appear to be the next 2 major support levels now that $4,800 has broken. I would expect the bottom to be one of those 2 numbers. I also don’t think it will jump overnight, so slowly accumulating over the next year is probably the smart way to play this.

 I get

3400-3600   as the floor for 6 cent mining

with

the lowest it will go 1600 to 1900  which will only support 3 cent mining

I could see the drop coming on the diff end as early as  Oct 4 I posted this thread and drew a LTC to BTC parallel with the diff numbers

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5043713.0

Got a lot of grief early on in that thread not so much any more.

I have a strong cash position and will snipe at BTC buys if it continues to drop in price.

BCH needs to go to 750 or more.  Maybe 1000

we are looking at a major play  that could backfire.

you need to go all the way back to the Hunt brothers and their play to own the silver market back around 1977-1978  to see anything like this move.
18339  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Rumor that Bitmain is going belly up! can't pay its chip builder! on: November 20, 2018, 10:19:16 PM
This is fake news. That footage is from the flood that destroyed a Bitcoin mine.

^Damn, HagssFIN beat me to it.

That makes more sense If you have 100 watt a th gear

the red numbers at current diff are

12 cent power and 7697 price mines at a loss
11 cent power and 7055 price mines at a loss
10 cent power and 6414 price mines at a loss
I suspect these miners have shut down a lot of  thier gear

9 cent power and 5772.10 price mines at a  loss
8 cent power and 5131.10 price mines at a  loss
7 cent power and 4489.10 price mines at a  loss
this is the group that will be shutting down if this lingers at these prices

6 cent power and 3848.10 price mines at a  loss
5 cent power and 3207.10 price mines at a  loss = these miners may do okay  since diff will drop a bit.

4 cent power and 2565.10 price mines at a  loss
3 cent power and 1923.10 price mines at a  loss =  these are doing just fine for today and I am think they  don't feel pain unless we drop  to 1750
18340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: November 20, 2018, 06:59:54 PM
looks like people will have gear by monday the 26th

be fun to see how well it works.

good luck  to all that have it.
