1842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CHINA NEED PRAYERS AND NOT BITCOIN on: February 12, 2020, 05:37:44 AM
The Atheist says:

I have bad news to you... god doesn't exist, it was created by humans to justify their existence. So, if there is no god, then no one can help china now.

On the other hand, we have bitcoin, and bitcoin is real, but since you can't bribe coronavirus with money, then bitcoin can't solve the coronavirus problem.

The last option is science. We only have to find an effective cure to fix the problem.

The Agnostic says:

They need all that they can get, including BTC and other monetary help from other countries. Yes, they are a powerful nation, but they are helpless against this virus spreading at it already lost a lot of lives not just in China but every part of the world. I don't like to touch religion here, it's a sensitive topic. Whether prayers help, it's up for discussions.

The Believer says:

China is communist country i dont think god will help them.
In terms of money you are right they are the riches country and i think government have enough funds for this situation how ever if you  are the one infected and the government cant help you , of course you still need donation and for foods they need it i guess there are no more store will try to open of you know there are virus that can kill you if you do.

God/ Providence/ Randomization cannot help a whole country. There are the lucky ones who would be detected at the right time, get quarantined, take precautions and recover or not get infected out of sheer luck or random choice of universe. Then there are those who will die instead and leave loved ones behind thinking, "Why them, He/She was good?". The loved ones in turn will either reject god or try to find solace in religion. Overall, its a fucked up situation that only the real working men and women down at the ground can control with time, effort and a lot of dedication.

From the way i have seen Chinese workers work, they are mentally designed to strictly follow orders and do what is told to do. They are quite regimental in their work ethic. That works fine under normal circumstances. How this discipline holds up in the face of such calamity is something that remains to be seen?

As of now, the infection seems to be slowing but experts fear that it may still accelerate. Time to keep fingers crossed and trust the men/ women involved to do their jobs with utmost sincerity and dedication.
1843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [D-8] Bitcoin is getting 3 major upgrades - Schnorr, Taproot and Tapscript on: February 12, 2020, 05:19:15 AM
I see a few comments saying that Schnorr signatures will result in making public keys indistinguishable from the transactions and the amounts involved will be invisible, making bitcoin more private. This seems to be a myth as this is not the effect neither the intent of Schnorr induced privacy feature, AFAICT.

Correct, those would require hard fork changes to Bitcoin like the implementation of RingCT in Monero and/or CT on the Liquid sidechain.
Thanks. I'll quote this as a +1 to myself and for clarity on differences between Schnorr's effects and confidential transactions.

Taproot will not hide the actual address/ transaction amounts involved.

True, but combined with Schnorr signatures, there are some pretty interesting applications. One could atomically swap from Bitcoin to a different cryptocurrency, but all an observer could see on the blockchain is a simple payment.

That opens up a whole new world for output mixing and amount obfuscation via private payment channels and atomic swaps.
I am yet to get a hang of the atomic swap concept. That is actually quite interesting that swapping bitcoin would be indistinguishable from a simple payment. While reading about sidechains, i came across the fact that a UTXO generated on parent chain is locked to the SPV proof on the child chain. This gets confusing very quickly and will take some more time to understand, at which point, I'd be happy to share my understanding.

I look at crypto from multiple angles.

--snip--
I don’t think these ideas to make Btc more flexible to move around are bad.

I think they will make old money old idea guys nervous.

kind of like oil vs solar.

Absolutely good sir.. Smiley Such increased functionality gives more power to every bitcoin user to defend themselves from arbitrary bank controls and the overarching effect that central banks world over have on jobs, economy and inflation in cohort with Governments and big corporations. Like nullius would say, "Bitcoin is for everyone."

Bitcoin is more than a technology:  Bitcoin is a social phenomenon.  And it is the first mass social movement in history that does not propose any opinion other than its own value.

People who disagree with each other about everything else, can agree about Bitcoin.  That is what gives Bitcoin its value:  Everybody wants Bitcoin, no matter what their opinions about anything else!  And that is what makes Bitcoin immune to financial censorship.  There are people from completely opposite ends of the political spectrum who came to Bitcoin, because big banks disliked them, closed their accounts, and shut them out of the fiat financial system.

It’s scary that banks can impose an unwritten law of their own, with no accountability and no appeal, just by closing people’s accounts.  Bitcoin stops that.

1844  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: February 11, 2020, 04:08:02 PM
BTW, I don't understand the role of daamad (Ravi Shastri) in the team. I am yet to see any positive contribution from this guy.
Thats the thing. At all previous instances we have head coaches that were contributing in terms of the dynamics within the team. Gary Kirsten came up with the idea of bringing a mental coach and those were some of the things that really helped show way to Ganguly's natural instincts.
Kirsten and Dhoni had a really remarkable partnership too. Things kindda took a bad turn from there as the coaches seem to have lost the same sort of presence or even control. Kumble resigned due to differences with Kohli. Ravi Shastri just seems to have gotten in as a Kohli choice.

This is one of the reasons that every time i see Ravi Shastri sitting nonchalantly wearing his stupid shades and looking like he is sitting on a beach while the team plays, I think to myself  "What the fuck is this man doing? Somebody just give him a martini and complete the look"
1845  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: February 11, 2020, 03:18:37 PM
According to Virat these experiment can help India's cause in the long term as ODI game are not primary focus right now due to T-20 World Cup. They tried 2 back-up openers and it failed but they should keep try new combination even if its fail, same goes with the bowling.
I don't know. Virat seems to be experimenting a bit too much in the ODI format these days. He backed Pant for a long time even when the crowd felt disappointed with his performances and his injury was the primary reason he got replaced.

He needs to continue improving his captaincy skills since he has a long way to go in order to match someone like MSD(Especially in the ODI format). His long term plan seems to be failing since Thakur is easily one of the worst Indian bowlers I have seen in recent times(Even though he takes wickets regularly).
Virat is pretty much the polar opposite of MSD in terms of demeanor and their outward approach to the game. The angry young boy vs the Mr. Cool. T20 seems to have become too much of a forte for the team. There was a time when we used to complain about declining Test performances due to too many ODIs. Is it the ODIs now suffering due to the T20s?

Also, as far as experiments are concerned, What exactly is the non-functioning Head Coach and adopted daamad of Indian cricket doing?
1846  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [DOTA 2] ESL One Los Angeles 2020 MAJOR [GAMBLING DISCUSSION] on: February 11, 2020, 03:06:11 PM
damn thats alot of cash out there for just a video game only , this prizes was more or a bit closer to the sports and other real life events  .

i thought esports arent popular enough  ? becauase look at them , many gambling sites still doesnt support them  . they dont support dota 2 betting   . are they under estimating these kind of games/betting ?    . but its not surprising that the prize is big because the cosmetics that they sell were also expensive  .
That is just one of the tournaments. The Dota Pro Circuit international called as The International or simply TI had a prize pool of 34 Million USD in 2019. That truly is some insane amount of money to imagine being won in a PC game for those who don't know about this..but like Celine Dion would say..Thats the way it is.. Grin

In other news Fnatic and GeekFam are the two teams that have qualified for the ESL one LA 2020. 14 more to go. Team Secret just beat down NiP (Ninjas in Pyjamas) in typical boss fashion.

P.S. This tragedy also happened to Team Cignal Ultra before against TNC.Predator and I think before, Team Cgnal Ultra also already dominates the game before the tragedy happened. I think, some payback, lol. But remember, there are rules about this, so it's okay to resume the game after some minutes given.
Link of the screenshot/replay in youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbHg2eQ0-3I
That sucks.

I have never seen what happens to these competitive matches if such a signal disconnection occurs. Ideally, the match should be replayed or in effect cancelled, like a washed-out game of football.
Just getting finished at the workplace and will go back to see if i can catch a few games on Dota TV. Are you going to update the OP image with the teams?
1848  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [D-8] Bitcoin is getting 3 major upgrades - Schnorr, Taproot and Tapscript on: February 11, 2020, 04:30:29 AM
This should have been an interesting discussion purely on the basis of the implications on security and usability of bitcoin in a business scenario with multiple entities. I am sharing my understanding which may have some chinks. You are welcome to poke holes and discuss.

Talking just about Taproot and Schnorr signatures, Schnorr signature is proposed to be an additional scheme of generating signatures (Public-Private key pairs) along with the existing ECDSA signatures. Apart from increased provable security, the main benefit that is meant to be derived from Schnorr is the ability to implement "Signature aggregation".

It allows the generation of a single signature which is valid for the sum of multiple public keys. This is particularly useful in multisig transactions. A multisig transaction's size is dependent on the number of parties involved. For example, in a typical 2 of 3 Multisig, the 2 collaborating parties put their signatures. Both these signatures need to be included to make the transaction valid. This increases the size of a multisig transaction.

Using Schnorr signatures allow the formation of a signature which is the "aggregate" of the two collaborating signatures but takes up the same space as a single signature.

Next up, the privacy related problem is that such an aggregated transaction is distinguishable from a normal transaction. (How this distinction happens is for technically-higher beings to explain). This is where taproot comes in that enables the formation of aggregate/ multisig transactions in such a way that they are indistinguishable from normal transactions.

Note:I see a few comments saying that Schnorr signatures will result in making public keys indistinguishable from the transactions and the amounts involved will be invisible, making bitcoin more private. This seems to be a myth as this is not the effect neither the intent of Schnorr induced privacy feature, AFAICT.

This brings me to one of the best points raised in terms of pure discussion of things like consensus and privacy which normal users should be interested in.
I look at the over all concept and see it making btc more like a bank/money item then a stock/commodity item.

I am not sure worldwide banking would like this. As it makes btc more threatening to them.
Taproot gives more functionality to bitcoin in terms of implementing complex scripts involving multiple parties while keeping the details private. It opens up several use-cases that "money" should have. Like allowing you to form a "will" or a "trust fund" while taking into consideration several real-world conditions/ contingencies while keeping it hidden that such a collaboration is involved behind the scene. It surely makes bitcoin have more functionality in terms of the buzz word FinTech. This is but an obvious evolution IMO.

So if bittrex coinbase and hitbtc all have trackable multiple signature wallets.  taproot will hide them from us.
...
then they can conspire to raise and crash coin price with very little ability to see they are doing it.
Taproot will not hide the actual address/ transaction amounts involved. It will simply reduce the signature size involved while signing transactions from such a wallet.

So basically the idea scares me.
From what i read, i think the fear is misplaced. If anyone else thinks its a valid fear then this is something worth more discussion and research.
1849  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Are crypto advisers worth to be looking for? on: February 11, 2020, 02:31:41 AM
Replies like the one @mikeywith gave as the first one leave little more to be covered in terms of the opinion on crypto advisers. There are a lot of them giving signals on twitter and other social media too. What is unique to crypto trading though is that you have to first decide your end goal. Do you want to increase your holding in terms of BTC or just get more fiat. You also need to decide that if you want to continue trading on the less secure platforms where your money maybe hacked at anytime or would you consider keeping funds safe on your own computer.

There is a lot of things to decide rather than just learning to trade. As far as experience is concerned you can read from experience of other people on the forum. @JetCash had multiple topics where he talked about his personal experiences with trading on exchanges.
There is a website called Niffler.co that claims to teach you trading with experience of fellow traders. Not sure how good it is but maybe you could look at it and share your experience if you are so inclined.
1850  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Interesting way to get millions of people run full nodes. on: February 10, 2020, 03:30:01 PM
When trying to understand stuff like Sidechains, it is good to read such viewpoints and figure out the differences in your understanding with others. Theoretically, a sidechain will allow you to move bitcoin to a different blockchain, use it there and move it back to main bitcoin blockchain. Moving bitcoin to another blockchain is a complex, non-intuitive process.

The pegged sidechain proposal had a concept of implementing SPV Proofs which needed changes to the bitcoin blockheaders. To avoid this before actual implementation of a sidechain,a federated peg was also suggested in the original sidechain whitepaper. This is the path that was taken in the implementation of Liquid, bitcoin's first sidechain.

When you say having many blockchains, you cannot have many blockchains on the same Bitcoin network, as the network will comprise of nodes that follow the rules of main bitcoin chain and comes to consensus based on those rules. The amount of computation that goes into validating is also dependent on the quality of participants in this network. So you cannot have many bitcoin blockchains on the same network.
1851  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain is now the most in-demand skill in the 🌏 on: February 10, 2020, 08:56:35 AM
i am still not convinced that any real company with real product or service is utilizing blockchain technology since i have not seen any yet. all i have seen so far is random people at home raising funds through ICOs (aka scamming people) which are referred to as "company" and they are not even using blockchain technology, they are just creating a token. and most of the demand is for people who can do something like that which i wouldn't even categorize as a skill.
IBM is pushing its blockchain services in the form of what it calls Hyperledger fabric. It won't be difficult finding an example where a company claims to have used blockchain for some kind of value transfer involving paperwork and documentation. Barclays claimed this back in 2016. Then there are the obvious claims from XRP and Stellar about on-boarding banks. Most of those use cases involve these organizations providing some form of blockchain expertise for making documentation fast and transparent using a distributed ledger.

It seems like most of these offshoots are gradually evolving to become manpower source for companies that would like to have some use of a private, permissioned blockchains.

We are always looking for complete newbies at the India sub hoping to guide them through the myriad of scams and imposters and getting them to become contributing citizens of the cryptosphere.

Merited one of your posts about the blockchain courses. Keep learning and contributing. If you see this message, do drop in here for a quick intro to the scene['url] and maybe introduce yourself too.
1854  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [DOTA 2] ESL One Los Angeles 2020 MAJOR [DISCUSSION] on: February 10, 2020, 05:35:15 AM
I was asking around for something like this with betting on online games. It'd be a good side distraction to follow the DoTA championships and have the option to bet with crypto. The fascination for me in esports is mainly due to the wide difference it has compared to countries like India etc.
The culture of Esports having the potential to be a career opportunity is something that doesn't find much resonance in my society even though I know it is something that a lot of people would love to do. Following the journeys of the "stars" of these esports is as fascinating as the game itself.
1855  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: February 10, 2020, 04:27:00 AM
--snip--because I know for fact that Craig Wright and he alone is Satoshi.
You quote yourself as some sort of expert by saying that "I am the one who had the last laugh when i bought Bitcoin back in 2011". There were countless others like you who chose the same. During the block size debate, they concluded that keeping block size low and working on other structural improvements was necessary so that running a node and self-verification of the blockchain remains as decentralized as possible.

People like you defend this stupiditiy called BullShitVision proclaiming stuff like:

1. That fraud is Satoshi.
2. It doesn't matter that the whole economic activity and financial freedom should be governed by "data centers".
3. Running a basic node should require a minimum 10+ Mbps connection.

You go against the very principles of bitcoin with your childish assumptions that "centralization is professionalization". Any self-respecting bitcoiner recognizes the crap that comes out of Wright's mouth and how far removed he is from Satoshi's principles with his asinine patents and flaunting of credentials like they mean anything.

Your confession that "I am right because i know who Satoshi is" even after all the foolish pranks he is pulling off on newbies in the name of professionalism means little.
1856  Local / India / Re: Prime Minister of India rewarded youth for creating Crypto Price Tracker App on: February 09, 2020, 06:55:10 AM
I am gonna wait for the pro-bitcoin lobby in supreme court to bring the argument that developers and interested kids are making applications based on this technology and you are contemplating a complete ban.

The kid cut her hair short in the pic where she is receiving the prize. I don't know what her motivation would have been but that looks very bad-ass in a futuristic "The Matrix" kind of way. Just like trinity..

1857  Local / India / Re: ZebPay is back? on: February 09, 2020, 06:42:26 AM
Zebpay was probably the most used wallet in India during the 2016-17 BTC breakout. It was where i purchased my first BTC before the banks started closing things down. By the slump got over, i had lost about 50K INR of the investment putting money in worthless ICOs and having decided to no longer "buy" crypto until i understood its use.
I have mostly come to the conclusion that holding and earning SATS is the most worthwhile thing you can do apart from actually getting involved. I had the wallet on my old mobile phone. It asked me for the phone number i registered with and i got the SMS delivered (on a different phone). It worked alright after i entered the 4-digit pin which i luckily recalled.

The wallet looks slicker now but i don't think they have updated crypto-to-crypto trading yet. The BTC wallet also shows a "Lightning" payment tab which i haven't tried because there are no lightning payments to make.I think I'll go and try one from LoyveV's thread to see how it works. Its good news that they are relaunching in India. Hopefully the "Zebpay build" initiative can be of help to developers.
1858  Local / India / Re: [GREAT INDIAN RAFFLE] #2 - Game On until bitcoin in escrow lasts - Win 0.001 btc on: February 09, 2020, 06:22:56 AM
Thanks for the informative thread H. Lets hope we can find enough people to fill up the spots. Maybe the topic should read something like "Pick lucky number for free BTC" so the few newbies coming into the section can find interest in this. For Indians, "Raffle" isn't exactly the word we identify with. Maybe something simpler like "Lottery"..??

Thanks to you for putting the effort to continue this. I am sure more people will come. I'll take 5

1859  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: IPL Mutual Pool Discussion. on: February 09, 2020, 06:06:57 AM
Hey guys. Joining in on the discussion now. Thanks to JSRAW for pointing me to this thread. I haven't joined the TG yet as I am still getting the hang of this. I prefer that I get to know a little bit first before i just drop in and start asking noob questions. I think if i ask those noob questions here, it'd be helpful to others too.

I see that mutual betting threads started with the world cup and IPL and you guys would have wanted to have wider participation. It'd be great if we can lower the entry barrier in terms of information as well as entry fee in the beginning. As a newcomer to this, i feel i don't have enough direction. For example, I have no idea how mutual betting will work. I know i should start with registering the superbru app but it all feels too much self-navigation. I suggest that it'd be awesome if someone experienced can ELI5 things a bit for everyone. For example:

1. What is a mutual betting pool?
2. What do i place my bets on? Match results? Player rankings?
3. How do i win or lose?
4. Even if i don't care about winning or losing, whats the fun part in it?

Sorry if these questions sound like an imposition to someone, please rest assured, they are not. Smiley This is just an honest viewpoint from someone completely new to this but interested. I hope that this would also give the newbie's perspective to Royse and JSRAW who are leading the effort to build a community here.
1860  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What p2p games will you play? on: February 09, 2020, 05:43:36 AM
For P2P games to be successful, they'd have to be much more engaging in terms of the gaming experience. Betting is not a gaming experience. Its more about the individual's adrenaline rush coming from putting something on stake for an instantaneous reward.

P2P on the other hand needs to be about the rush of winning over another human player or even a bot if the game lends itself to a fair enough algorithm. The rush of winning also comes from the game experience itself like in the visually and mentally engaging online strategy games like DoTA, WoW or fight games like Mortal Kombat. If you can wager on the outcome and call that P2P betting, it'd be fine. Other than that, P2P feels redundant against normal betting systems.
