1841  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S6 and S7 Speculation on: August 21, 2015, 04:42:41 PM
In terms of the cost for the S7, I'll just bet it's more than you'll want to pay. I think that the primary driver for the S7 price will be "Whatever the market will bear". Unless they have some serious competition in terms of gear, they will try and extract every dollar they can for each miner. I don't think they care about ROI times, except to the extent that their customers do calculations and then buy or refuse to buy. Since the price of BTC also factors into customer calculations on return, that will fold in, but the number one driver will be what folks are willing to pay, large or small.

Right now, they seem to have approximately zero credible competition. The SFARDS pricing provided them with plenty of room to the upside. Besides, it's easy to lower the price later if folks aren't buying. I expect they they think there is plenty of pent up demand for new hardware, and they are probably correct. That won't lead to a low price.

Just my rather cynical $.02 on the pricing guesses for the S7.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, alh.

I only wish I knew what that amount will be...

I would almost be willing to bet the first batch will be gone in less than 12 to 24 hours.  Many more would be miners with power costs as high as $0.20 cents per kWH will be priced into buying this rig with almost double the hash rate at half the power.  We already know large farms, small farms, hobbiest, etc... will want to get their hands on this rig.  I can see the difficulty getting as high as 100 to 110 Billion by end of April 2016.

I may not jump on the S7 band wagon until batch 2 or 3.
1842  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S6 and S7 Speculation on: August 21, 2015, 04:17:23 PM
Unless they continue that monster trend of 3x units.

15 or 16th monster..... muahahahhahah
i'd buy!

If they sell an 11th to 15th beast I will buy it.

If they go big

I rather they sell something that maxes at 2700 watts  not 3500 watts

I would have to agree with you there, Phil.

All of my circuits are 240 Volt @ 30 Amps = 7,200 watts.  It would be beneficial to put two big rigs on a 30 amp circuit without pushing it to its 7,200 watt limit for safety purposes.  If less than 2,700 watts, it would be nice to have the rig low enough to put 3 or 4 rigs on one 240V/30A circuit.

Does anyone have any speculation about the "cost" per GH on the S7?

The problem with the FHP-141 is that you will also need a external system to power them since the sp20 fan is using a special connector.

You will also need to find a way to make the airflow correct into the sp20. This is a lot of work but you could try.

This is the "special connector" used by the SP20.

1845  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Bladecenter H 2880W Breakout Boards. First batch closed, now selling from stock on: August 17, 2015, 03:38:31 AM
I have had about a 96% success rate in these used power supplies. I have yet to have one of these breakout boards go dead. Even the prototypes I received back in December are still ticking strong and have many hours on them now. The breakout board has nothing to do with the fans at all, that is all done inside the power supply.

So if you see one light with the power switch flipped to off, then when you switch it on you see two green lights, and still have no fan - it is most definitely the power supply.

Well, I had a few of mine do what you said, made the proper solder connections on the breakout board and everything is just fine now.  Meaning it was not the power supply.  Be careful of making flat statements.

I'm not saying this to discredit the breakout boards at all.  I absolutely love them!!!  I just thought the record should be set straight.

If you have had this problem you should elaborate exactly what you had to solder to fix your breakout boards for the previous poster that is having this issue, instead of just telling me I'm wrong. Nothing is really accessible anyway. I'm curious exactly what traces you are correcting. J4bberwock can easily confirm if a defect in his board could ever precipitate this issue. Out of the 68 boards I have been running for over 6 months now I have had no issue with any of them in any case. I just paid for 50 more.

My apologies, LordPaco.  I did not mean to disrespect you, Sir.  That was not my "intent" at all.  I assumed you had already seen the post in this thread regarding the solder connections needed for the fans to work.  This was discussed earlier in the thread before.  I assumed you had already read this in earlier pages in the thread.

If anyone from the initial group buy in North America has any problems with any of their boards, I would be happy to have replacements sent out immediately on behalf of J4bberwock.  Send me and J4bberwock a PM if you have any defects at all and we'll get you sorted out.

I live in the USA but I bought mine straight from J4bberwock.  I bought 8 of them and 4 of them turn on the PSU but do not turn on the fan.  I'm going to tear away the white glue stuff and make the following solder connections myself...

If this voids any type of warranty on them doing it myself, please let me know.

I did follow up with J4bberwock about this fixing the problem after making proper solder connections but I did not follow up with the thread.  If I had done so, we would probably not be having this discussion.

So, again, please don't take my comment as trying to win points in an argument.  That was not my intent at all.  I simply wasn't thinking.  It must have been when I was very tired and not thinking straight.  I'm up at all hours of the night quite often.

I like you, LordPaco, and I love what you are doing with your farm.  Keep up the great work and I wish you the best in your mining endeavor.

Cheers M8

All the settings are OK, I have set them again after RESET to defaults.

Numbers under GetWorks and LocalWork are changing in MINER STATUS. Any ideea?

I have 2 S5, I can try to change controler boards and see what happens.

I would recommend swapping controller boards so you can use it as a process of elimination.  It took me less than 5 or 6 minutes to swap them when I determined I had a bad controller.  It's nothing to it.
1847  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 16, 2015, 10:28:47 AM
It was running with no problems for 6 months in climate conditions.

I know it will take a while before the website will let you respond to this because you are still in "Newbie" status...  I'm just curious if the red light is blinking once every 15 seconds?

If it is blinking once every 15 seconds, it may have properly reset but somehow the pool info is altered or missing and that's the reason it would not be hashing.  Then try finding the IP address to log into it so you can set up the proper pool info.

I get what your saying with no problems the past 6 months.

Do you have multiple S5's so you can swap controllers to see if it will work with another controller?
1848  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 16, 2015, 10:20:09 AM

Tupsu,

Do you suppose it's possible that Shadow is actually getting a blinking red button every 15 seconds [Meaning it has properly reset], however, the proper pool information has somehow been deleted or altered and that's why it's not hashing?  This would also mean he would have to go back to initial setup as if he just pulled it out of the box [Meaning, find out the IP if set up for DHCP, etc...]?  Then log in with "root" and "root" to go to "miner configuration" to set up the pool.

It's the same. I reconnected them in other holes and also in the same, but no result. I think that controler board is faulty.

If you have multiple S5's, you can disconnect the controllers in both rigs and put the "working" controller in this "problem" rig to see if it begins to work.  I had one with a bad controller arrive from the factory and they had me swap like that to determine that I actually had a bad controller.

It may very well be faulty.  How long have you had the rig?

What the black button inside S5, near the fan connection ?

Hmmmmm, that is a black button.  What it does, I have no idea.  I don't see where it would hurt to press it and see what would happen.  It could have something to do with the fan.  Hard to say...  Maybe doggie knows.
1853  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 16, 2015, 09:30:01 AM
Yes after few seconds there is beep and red light. In first place in my opinion, there wasn't problem in fan. Beacuse I recall, before changinfg fan it was same situation, like now. No hash. S5 was running for 6 months.

What the black button inside S5, near the fan connection ?

Do me a favor...

Unplug the 2 white ribbon cables that connect the hashing boards to the controller and plug them into the other two vacant slots and try the reset again [Make sure rig is off when swapping slots].  OR  Have you tried that already?

I've unplugged mine before on an S3 and plugged them right back into the same slots and it started working again.  I've never had a problem with it since.  Your ribbon cables may not be long enough to plug into the vacant slots.  Sometimes, they make them too short.
1854  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 16, 2015, 09:24:15 AM
I have connected old fan, that was originaly on S5. Everything is the same. The board read the RPM, both red LED lights are OFF and no hashing. I tried also changing PSU, that is working and no resolution, still the same problem. I tried also with reset ( hole in front ), problem stays. How can I do HARD reset with black button ? Is my S5 broken and unusable ?

Wow...  This entire episode sounds weird.  Never heard of this.  Maybe doggie can help.  Shoot him a PM if he doesn't answer here soon.

BY THE WAY - I found a 2.0 amp fan for the S5:  http://www.amazon.com/Delta-Electronics-FFB1212EHE-120x120x38mm-connector/dp/B002UO0WEI/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1439716620&sr=1-2&keywords=Delta+Electronics+120x120x38mm+Cooling+Fan+%2C+4+pin

Are you certain you are feeling a "click" when you stick a paper clip (or equivalent) inside the "hard" reset hole?
1855  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 12, 2015, 10:22:48 AM
The original S5 fan appears to be the PWM version of the Delta FFB1212EHE-F00 - 2 amp, 4000 rpm, 190 CFM, 120x120x38mm. I can't find a link to the exact model though.

They are DEFINITLY a delta design, as that "flow director" setup is patented as far as I can recall....

Delta makes good fans, but they aren't the only folks that do so - I've had very good luck with NMB and some mixed but usually good luck with YS Tech, but THE longest lasting fan I have is an ancient Rotron metal-frame 115VAC that's been running for literally decades. Mostly fan duability comes down to being a ball-bearing design - most of these recent "rifle/fluid dynamic/etc" just are just fancy sleeve bearing stuff that does NOT last nearly as well as a well-done ball bearing.

Whynot - there is a "for sale" area of the forum to try to sell stuff in.

Thank you for your analysis and advice.

Sorry i don't know the actual stats some one told me once but  now i can't recall then but i do remeber don't go over  2 amps if he didn't keep trying to make it work , turning it off, unplug etc  then doing a hardware reset should fix it .

fans have  to be below 2 amps for the S5 these work  just fine on them i use them on my S5's http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y1HLA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00  I have OC with two of these  fans on one S5 with no temps over 60 c so i know they work well . Sense i don't like OC i usually dont much but i run two S5 once @ 400 for two days. HW error were low enough and no temps ever went over 60 C but most of the time or all of the time i keep my S5 at 350  unless something goes a mess then il OC them just to get back on track . that's if speeds drop for no reason etc  and a reboot won't fix it. if this helps it doesn't have to be a PCEI cable most fan come with the right converter plug or molex and even  G-blade does it just plug it in using one of the Sata plugs from the PSU that has the 4 pin molex on one end all ATX psu come with that unless you buy oem, the fan all most all ways comes with the right converter plug .

with the fans I use he needs two and do it push pull which make better sense then have one and stand them up it does lower temp 3 to 4 degree or more standing them up using a box fan didn't work for me it made the S5 temps go up and work harder .

IN fact atm  all my S5 use one of these each http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y1HLA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 as push and one of these as pull http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A460TK6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00  i used to have two http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y1HLA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00  Phillip made a post to some else about noise so i tried it and it work well for me on 4 S5 , i have 9 miner in my house atm I'm about to my limit i want ever .

last thought these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFCRATC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 as pull  with one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y1HLA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00  but its little bit nosier. I have yet to try two http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KFCRATC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Thank you very much for the information you've provided from "actual" experience.  I see now I should not connect the 4.9 amp Delta's I have in storage to the S5's.  I should keep them on reserve for the S4's.  I've installed a total of five of these 4.9 amp Delta's in S4's thus far and they have worked great!!!  All of my S4's are batch 2 and I have yet to have problems with factory PSU's [Knocking on wood].  Only fans breaking down.

Thanks again for the very informative post!!!
1858  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 11, 2015, 11:09:29 PM
Yup those deltas wont work on the controler, but you can connect them directly to the PSU and have them working 100% rpm which is what you want at the end. And that way if pool goes down or internet goes down your device wont be fried...

Sorry for my question, but how can I connect this fan directly to PSU ?

Shadow,

Sorry to hear the 3.9 amp fan you chose did not work.  I bought all of my fans initially for my S4's.  I assumed they would be fine as well for SP20's and S5's.  It appears now I could be mistaken.  I paid more attention to CFM and RPM rather than amps or watts.

I hope your rig is not ruined.

Does anyone here have specifications for the watts and/or amps for fans with the S5?

I'm not sure about the fan someone else recommended that does not have quite the RPM's the BITMAIN fan installed in the S5.  Bitmain's fan could easily go up to 4,000 RPM's.  The one someone recommended was 3700 RPM's maximum.

The only fan I'm aware of at the moment to offer greater than 4000 RPM's with a lower amperage than the Delco 1212 series fans is the following:  http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-Denki-SAN-Ace-120mm/dp/B00QWB1X3O/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1439317263&sr=1-2-fkmr0&keywords=Sanyo+Denki+SunAce+120+9GV1212P1J091

Here are the specs for the fan:

Sanyo Denki SunAce 120 9GV1212P1J091
Voltage: 12V
Power consumption: 6400RPM 36W
Rated current: DutyCycle 100% @ 3A
Air Flow: 6400RPM @ 224CFM
Noise: 6400RPM @ 64 dB-A
Air Pressure: 6400RPM 36.82 MM-H2O
Life Expectancy: 40000 hrs @ 40°C
Connector: 2510-4P

CONNECTING STRAIGHT TO PSU:

First, you may need to get a 4-Pin Molex Male to 6-Pin PCI-E Female Power Adapter Cable if your PSU did not come with this cable included. Some people are using server grade PSU's with custom made breakout boards that more than likely did not include the cable I mentioned previously.  Here is a link to several choices of that cable:  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=6+pin+pcie+to+4+pin+molex

Second, you may need to get a 4 pin molex to 4 pin fan connector if your PSU did not come with this cable included.  Here is a link to several choices of that cable:  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_34?url=search-alias%3Dcomputers&field-keywords=4+pin+molex+to+4+pin+fan+connector&sprefix=4+pin+molex+to+4+pin+fan+connector%2Celectronics%2C167&rh=n%3A541966%2Ck%3A4+pin+molex+to+4+pin+fan+connector

I just find it very odd the fan could hurt the rig.  If anything, it's the fan that could be harmed by not having enough amperage supplied from the rig instead of the reverse.

I honestly belive your S5 only needs to be shut off for a while [Maybe after doing evening a hard reset] then turn it back on to see if it begins to hash.

Let me know how it turns out.

PS - IF someone knows the specs on how much amperage is provided by the rig for the fan(s), please let us know?

Hey dmwardjr

haven't noticed you in while how are you ? , how close have you come to that 1 PH in your home ? Smiley .

just saying HI

cya .

Hi toptek,

Good hearing from you...

I've been staying right where I'm at (just under 60 TH/s) with S3's, S4's, S5's and SP20's.  I'm kind of on the fence about going to Washington State at the moment (50/50).  Plus, I've been saying [For quite some time] I would go some time in quarter 4 of 2015 or quarter 1 of 2016.  If I go, it would more than likely be quarter 4 of 2015.

My power costs have been going up quite a bit here in Alabama.  I'm still making money but nowhere near as much as what I could make in Washington State.

I've been doing research on loans to get a kick start in mining with 1 PH/s out the gate.  However, I do not like what I'm seeing with these loan offers.  This means I would only be willing to invest approximately $90K maximum out the gate with my own cash getting started.

I've also been looking into trading pairs on FOREX lately.  I'm going to school online at http://www.babypips.com/school and learning a great deal about trading from the first 5 videos on FOREX at http://theinnercircletrader.com/Tutorials.htm.  The other videos on trading are great as well.  I'm going to start trading on FOREX with $5K in a couple of more weeks just to get a feel of it while putting only a small amount of my funds at risk.  If I do well with it over a couple of months, I may go ahead and add another $50K to my account.  Then, use gains from that [If successful] to start off in Washington State with more than the 250 TH/s I could start with right now.

It's quite a gamble to move out to Washington State.  If one is to move out there, it needs to be no later than the end of Quarter 4 of 2015.  The reason I say this is to allow yourself to ROI before the block halving.  What happens after the block halving remains to be seen.  I would hope it would be at least double what it is right now but who knows.

Needless to say, I have a lot of options I'm considering and remaining patient while trying to make the correct decision.

Cheers M8

Sound levels seem a lot higher on the S5+ than any of the previous machines, right?

They have to be twice as loud as its predecessor but I don't mind.  My little mining closet keeps the noise down anyway.  However, I'm not buying many more rigs anyway unless I move to Washington State.  I still have not made up my mind as to the move yet.
