1841  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GIVEAWAY] Free Bitcoin, Litecoin or Ripple on: June 12, 2013, 02:42:53 PM
You people shouldn't be giving your full names and email addresses to some stranger. What's the matter with all of you? You're supposed to know better than that, especially with a currency that's supposed to protect your anonymity. :/
Apparently many people just stop thinking when stupid greed kicks in.

Why did they do that despite not even knowing the amount that supposedly they should have gained, is beyond me.
1842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good bye LTC? on: June 12, 2013, 02:41:13 PM

1843  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin source code is a giant mess on: June 12, 2013, 02:38:15 PM
and of course functional programming is the way forward, not OOP.
so, you like functional programming, hence functional programming is the way to go, and everyone else is doing it wrong.

well thought... Roll Eyes

Eh, le asicminer a 2.1 mi è spiaciuto proprio non comprarle al volo...
1845  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crisis in Argentine on: June 11, 2013, 03:37:45 PM
EDIT: Realistically, the overall best investment for anyone here (or elsewhere) would actually be to start large scale ASIC mining farm, given we are paying 1/8 the electricity costs. But you would have to be very very very lucky to a) get an avalon unit (at it's official price, not the 10-20x resell price they are going for) and b) smuggle them from the US to Arg.
Actually it would be much easier to just offer some services on the web, accepting bitcoins as a payment.

4. Cat Rich or Die Mining
5. Fried Cat or Die Mining

1.Acquire USD through black market (at higher rate) (FEE loss #1)
2.Deposit USD to VirWox through CC or Paypal (FEE loss #2)
3.In VirWox: USD > Linden dollars (FEE loss #3)
4.In VirWox: Linden dollars > BTC (FEE loss #4)
5.Withdraw BTC from VirWox (FEE loss #5)
Why on Earth should you go such a complex way?

You can use localbitcoins much easier (paying directly with pesos), and even if you don't, I'm pretty sure there are many easier methods (though of course less easy than here).

Still skeptic but interested, email sent ; )

They do have Bitpay but was better to me to pay with MtGox...
Sure, but it isn't better for them: this might be violating MtGox TOS and they risk their account being closed, AFAIK...
1850  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: -18% Change (24h) on: June 09, 2013, 04:35:08 PM
1851  Economy / Economics / Re: Any idea on why the -20% of today ? on: June 09, 2013, 04:10:13 PM
Hope will get you nowhere, and you'll end up losing money either way.

You shouldn't have invested more than you afforded to lose.

I can lose all that I have invested !
I don't understand your intervention...
You complained you had to pay back a loan, so no you can't lose your investment, hence my post.
1852  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crisis in Argentine on: June 09, 2013, 04:05:42 PM
Did someone try to track the BTCARS exchange rate?

Obviously that would be quite difficult, since that's black market, but I guess maybe there are open sites with announcements, like localbitcoins?
1853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel about people carelessly running likely viruses? on: June 09, 2013, 03:47:17 PM
A: they downloaded something they should not have therefor installing the virus to make it become a mining bot .
B: Thought is was no big deal because really they were only costing the owner who does not know " a few bucks a day in electricity"

IMO, those that do and/or think its funny or okay with shit like this happening... Karma is a bitch. It might not happen now or even soon, but things do catch up to you.

I'm not talking about exploiting in general.

I was only referring to the specific cases were the exploit was so evident that anyone who actually thinks before doing anything wouldn't have done it.

I clearly failed in communicating, since the only responses I got were these, I give up.
1854  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: 1st Greek Hotel & Restaurant that Accepts Bitcoins! on: June 09, 2013, 02:17:28 PM
Very bad idea and possibly against their TOS.

Should use a proper wallet or provider instead.

What is your proposal?

As I said, use a real wallet, such as blockchain.info to receive payments, then transfer once in a while the funds either to a cold paper wallet, or to the exchange and trade them with a currency of your choice.

If you prefer you might directly use bitpay or similar services, though the fee is slightly higher (but you are much safer from sudden drops in value, such as today's).
1855  Economy / Economics / Re: Any idea on why the -20% of today ? on: June 09, 2013, 02:02:06 PM
Price is going slowly going back up, I hope the manipulator will not hit again.
Hope will get you nowhere, and you'll end up losing money either way.

You shouldn't have invested more than you afforded to lose.
1856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel about people carelessly running likely viruses? on: June 09, 2013, 01:50:48 PM
There are stupid people everywhere and I would count yourself among them if you think a victim's stupidity makes exploiting them justifiable.

Huh

I never suggested that, but I assumed somebody might, hence I wanted to know other people's opinions.

My personal opinion is that:
• the exploiter is in the wrong, but with a bit of discount due to extreme stupidity of the exploited
• the exploited is also partly in the wrong, because he could have avoided this very easily, and instead fueled this illicit activity (hence encouraging other people to perform such activities, too)

i don't think my virtual machine cares Roll Eyes

If you run that kind of stuff in a virtual machine, you definitely don't have your brain switched off, so it doesn't count.
1857  Local / Raduni/Meeting (Italiano) / Re: [MEETING] Bologna on: June 09, 2013, 01:48:27 PM

1858  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: -18% Change (24h) on: June 09, 2013, 01:46:08 PM
1859  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: June 09, 2013, 01:32:27 PM
No, that's exactly like just buying BTC and not spending them.

If you spend them for another BTC-producing asset is irrelevant relative to BTCUSD.

I accept your argument that the btc:usd rate doesn't affect return. However, the cost of entry to the product has lowered, making it affordable to more people. I would expect that to drive sales up.

Imagine the corollary. If btc:usd went up to $1000, a blade would now cost $49,990 cash price. How many do you think AM will sell per week at those prices?
I see your point, and while it does make sense, I don't think it weights so much.

I guess that this kind of "market" would auto-adjust, and if the price of BTC would go up too much, people who wanted to spend less would just either buy a minor product (i.e. USB miner) or buy shares such as PTs or virtual mines.

So, yes, sales could be slightly affected by such a thing, but not as much as someone might imagine.
1860  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How do you feel about people carelessly running likely viruses? on: June 09, 2013, 01:26:36 PM
This is only the most recent example, but something like that happens every day.

Someone post something which is extremely shady, and possibly without any apparent benefit (at least scammers usually try to lure you with greed, here there's nothing).

This was so patently an infected file that I was amazed how many people jumped in anyway without thinking, leaving their brains completely powered off.
Me and others posted warnings, and some people were still jumping in nonetheless.

I find this both entertaining and interesting on a social perspective, it is like looking at lemmings jumping off a cliff, without even the excuse that they might be stupid rodents: those are people who willingly refused to think, knowing that this would make them risk a lot of money and time, without any benefit, and did that anyway.

What do you think about that?

Do you consider it's ok to exploit them, since they took efforts into being exploited? Or at least it's partly justifiable? Or do you think it's still 100% wrong nonetheless?
Irregardless of what you think about the exploiter, do you think they should receive some extra punishment, since they fueled a system which affected more users after them? (i.e. somebody notices that someone is downloading, so he stupidly assumes it means it's ok and downloads too...)

edit: since apparently it wasn't clear, I'd stress that I do not personally condone those actions, still I wanted to know if you do, how much, and why.

edit again: locked, since it looks like I wasn't able to communicate clearly what I meant, and got only answers from people who misunderstood. Sigh.
