18501  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S2 upgrade kit? on: February 19, 2015, 09:40:06 AM
Is it really worth the upgrade for 0.4W/Ghash ?  Don't we have miners right now at 0.5W ?

It doesn't seem right now like its worth buying any miners or even manufacturing them with what is going on with the BTC price.

Maybe if it was 0.25W/Ghash or so.

18503  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Methods of getting free electricity on: February 19, 2015, 09:27:11 AM
I am in the USA. I am wondering what ways there are to get free electricity. For example, maybe certain office leases come with electricity up to a certain amount. Maybe the place i work wouldn't notice or care if half a dozen power supplies were humming away in my cube. How about buying a home that has lots of solar panels just for the sake of hosting miners.....

When i was in college, our apartment rent came with electricity. I am doubtful though something like that would hold up long with the electricity bill was all of a sudden 2k a month.

Any ideas appreciated, thanks

Move into a building built in the 1960 and prior.

Okay...You sparked my curiosity. Why 1960 and prior???
'

Most buildings built in the 70s or prior didn't have individual meters because electricity was super cheap in most of North America.

So there are buildings where you pay a fixed rate per year. At the end of the year they take the entire buildings bill and split it against all the occupants. So your 1-2KW miner won't really have much an effect against hundreds of other occupants.

It would be too expensive to re-wire all the electricals just to put in individual meters. I am sure these days "MOST" miners who are still mining with old hardware are only mining because they don't pay for electricity. I am pretty sure this is true for anyone out there still mining with GPUs since its next to impossible to make money on those if you pay for electricity.

Also most business and offices have really cheap or fixed electricity. So you can ask your boss if you are allowed. Most tech companies don't mind.

And if you are a student and live at a college or university you should have free electricity also.
18504  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Renting office space with included utilities (electric, cooling) for mining on: February 19, 2015, 09:18:45 AM
8 months ROI? That's crazy long and by then BTC will be $25 and difficulty will be 1,000,000,000,000.

Honestly this is one of the dumbest dumbest ideas I've ever heard. How old are you?

These small offices usually have other people who occupy other offices. Usually its a large office building and they rent out the individual rooms.

You would probably only have access to one 15A outlet. Max you would be able to pull is 1800Watts or so. I don't think the landlord would even care. There are women who don't want cold feet and use 1800Watt space heaters.

Problem is the noise would bug the other office workers and you would really be better off keep your 2 miners at a data center.

How do I get KNC Jupiter to mine properly with Nicehash. From time to time I keep getting a slower speed (25% slower) because it keeps reconnecting or submitting 0 shares.

How to enable the extranounce ?

Please take a look here: https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=software#bfgminer

1. Update your miner to the latest firmware.

2. Set pool like this:
stratum+tcp://stratum.nicehash.com:3333/#xnsub#skipcbcheck
or
stratum+tcp://stratum.westhash.com:3333/#xnsub#skipcbcheck

Doesn't seem to work. In the stats it says Extranonce subscription is not enabled.

I upgraded to BFGMiner 5.0 and tried the

stratum+tcp://stratum.nicehash.com:3333/#xnsub#skipcbcheck
stratum+tcp://stratum.nicehash.com:3333/#xnsub
stratum+tcp://stratum.nicehash.com:3333#xnsub  <--- says its dead this way

Never heard of TECHNOBIT

then you are lucky and did not lose money to them.

Are they a chip manufacture? or some scam ponzi website store?

18512  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Running miners outside on: February 18, 2015, 08:47:50 PM
Can somebody post their setup of how you are running it on the balcony.

I am not worried about snow or rains because ahead of time I can always check the forecast but the problem is dirt, dust, ants, getting into the miners and PSUs.

Miners I dont really care about at this point since most are useless but I don't want to ruin a perfectly good PSUs.

What are our options now for withdrawing FIAT in Canada? Im a miner mostly and usually sell BTC and want to withdraw FIAT.

Don't want to deal with the headache of localbitcoins again.

18517  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Neptune Miner on: February 18, 2015, 01:28:43 AM
Hello,
I have the chance to get my hands on a new, never used KNC Neptune Miner that my friend is willing to sell to me. I have messed around with buying and selling bit coins but I am new to bit coin mining. I have done a good bit of reading online but I would like advice from someone that has a lot of experience and helpful input.
Should I buy this machine from him, he is related to me so he will give it to me for $1,500. That seems like a good deal to me.
What type of software will I need?
Will I need to buy any other equipment to use the miner.

Any other information is appreciated.

I apologize in advance for the noob questions.

You should avoid the Neptune miners because they can burn your house down due to bad engineering.

You should try to sell these on eBay. You should get a pretty good price for them there.

Just picked up one of these babies.

Since I bought it used, is there anyway to figure out which batch my KNC Jupiter was built in? Doesn't say November or October anywhere on the boards.

silver vrms oct

Ahh I see. I see 4 silver vrms.

I checked online and some have 8 silver vrms? Any idea why I only have 4?
