18521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GENESIS-MINING Zcash is a fraud - look at the numbers!!! on: November 26, 2016, 08:30:29 AM
Very unfortunate to read this and I can offer my sympathies. It also doesn't help when people tell you to "do a little research" because this forum, for example, has many threads about investment and making bitcoin groz from cloud mining sites like GM.

If you were like me and am sure most people, simple research on GM and reading on these forums might mislead you into thinking it is profitable. Only when searching for "scam" or "roi" related information do you see many disappointed people.

Lesson learnt my friend. Stay away from cloud mining unless you're keen on investing huge against solid calculations and insider info.
18522  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: LBRY.IO - DICUSSION THREAD on: November 26, 2016, 08:23:42 AM
Hi,

I hope I didn't get "swamped" by the LBRY diehard supporters for voicing my honest opinion about this Coin.
We no longer able to voice our opinions in the LBRY slack as things become pretty defensive. Only compliments are allowed now.
I've seen a few members with genuine discussion and some frustration as well. The rest just choose to be silent or gone.
The mods just ganged up and jumped on anyone who talk the harsh truth about the Coin. Assume criticisms is trolling.
Comments will be deleted and a fews of them are banned. Now only the newcomers and staffs in chat.

I've been following LBRY for close 6 months even before those diehard supporters become mods in slack.

I came to know LBRY from their listing on Exchanges and "indirect hypes" from the team member eventhough they repeatedly dismiss claims that they have no intention to "lure" people to get to know about LBRY through "any sort of hypes" tactics. Anyway the team has successful got many people's attention including me at that time. I went to their website and read everything. The information back then is not much packed compared to now. No one knew the total coin supply and a lot of specific information was reluctant to share out at that time. Anyway, I started to invest time and money as the idea and concept seems promising. The closed invitation is also one of their "marketing tricks" but never a problem if you aware about the GitHub. The constant of creating "perceptions" that you are missing out. The roadmap is not the roadmap you know like all other coins. More like devs journal. Moreover it's not an accurate info. The windows release is a joke. Just an update on twitter.

We never heard a clear message from the founders until recently that they have no intention to "protect" the coin value knowing the fact it reflects public confidence on that coin. They just let the "people expectations" lingers around. It's like "sure why not let this hypes draws more people into this coin and we can still say we did not hype, it was the traders fault". I only wished if only the CEO made the Acrytypical statement on day one instead after a lots old-time supporters got burned and lost money on it. Got "tricked" by the team keep telling us to hold on it. I doubt we can get back our funds at break-even considered most of us holding on from 65k,40k,25k sats. Funny though, when price hitting 6k, LBRY staffs in Slack still asked us to keep holding on it as in long run it can be beneficial. Until few days ago, the CEO made an official statement https://lbry.io/news/acryptypical that they don't care about you and the people who bought into it because it's your own problem. They never force you to buy LBC. What can I say? I gave up and sold every LBC that I hold for past 5 months.

We know things take time to build the great platform/software, we also knew about the mining issues. We knew content creators might earn less because of great price fluctuations. We knew it and believe the team in long run. Most of us are not in for short term gains. However, as time goes by, we found out many things turned out to be far-fetched and mostly in theoretical "promises" and the team's eccentric ideology. Time to stop become a blind supporter. Plus, now there is competitors with big pocket from ICO funds like Maid, AMP and DCT gave opportunity for new users to pick which one is more rewarding for them to earn from using the platforms. It cost a lot of people hard-earned money to support the CEO imagination and philosophy. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy. It's like placing a geek in the business world.

The statement made by CEO has clearly stated the price will continue to fall until next year, hopefully not until July 2017 as that's where the operation funds is over. If anyone still lost money after this CEO statement, then that's not their fault anymore as the CEO publically stated the price will plummets for many months to come. Many old-timers speculate the price will fall below 1000 sats. Some even said under 500 sats. Guess what? The team don't care. There will be always a new bagholder. There is a lot coins out there valued under 100 sats. None fall like LBC. Atleast we know where ZEC heading in the beginning.

With the 400 mil premined coins & 500k funds, the team has nothing to lose but time. Mods in Slack has nothing to lose as most of them are in mining. While others hoped to be part of Mods, possibly wishing the future rewards from the reserved coin reward allocation.

Not blaming anyone but myself. Just sharing my last 2 LBC rant, peace.

good point, I hope everyone can have a look.take a look at LBRY team's shameless

Kerry you have a glaring point that can be applied broadly across the crypto community: almost any form of discussion / questioning / alternative dialogue is viewed as criticism or trolling.

I am often taken aback by the vicious defensive attitude of mods and experts who view any alternative opinion as an attack. It is an elitist perception that the few want to protect.

Regret to say it has made me less keen to speak out my mind, be it that I am a newbie in all things crypto.
18523  Economy / Economics / Re: What percentage of people on Earth will own Bitcoin by 2020 on: November 26, 2016, 05:17:13 AM
It is difficult to even know the amount of human population using bitcoin right now let alone in 2020, personally I don't think we are going to see a great and sudden amount of people adopting bitcoin so I think 0% to 2% is about right.

Indeed, if we want to think of adoption then the numbers will be far, far less. Simply opening a wallet and storing some faucet satoshis as a casual user already qualifies you as owning bitcoin.

But to adopt?
18524  Economy / Economics / Re: Invest your bitcoins. on: November 26, 2016, 05:13:20 AM
My investment activities in respect of Bitcoin is only in its purchase and storage. I do not invest in all sorts of dubious Bitcoin projects

That is quite safer if you ask me, because those investment projects are not always legit and in such cases you might lose some bitcoins if you invest in them, though you can earn some profits if you invest in trading but that needs understanding and learning.

Yes, only few sites niw are legit, most if invddtment site now are scammed or msybe legit for a few days then once they already earned, they will immediately run. Investing is really risky. Theres so many bad people now that are just waiting for thier time to do thier bad plans especialky when it comes to money. I think once you invest your bitcoins,  you should be always ready for any consequences that might happen. Its either you will gain profit or you will lose your investment,

Don't forget also that legitimate and trustworthy people or projects, or at least, deemed so by you, are as equally exposed to risk as any other venture. The riskier the venture, the higher the likelihood of loss.

The mistake of bitcoin investors are completely inflated expectations - for example, that profit is guaranteed or principal is safe, and that anything less than 10% a year is poor returns.
18525  Economy / Economics / Re: Long term OIL on: November 26, 2016, 05:06:42 AM
OPEC has slowly had its power eroded over the years but it would be a mistake to think the Saudis "lost" the price wars. They were willing to absorb years of low oil prices while continuing to build stockpiles and have already found how useful their substantial sovereign wealth funds have become.

American shale lost the battle for now but I think globallythe industry has past denial and is accepting that prices will be stable.

Can oil hit the prediction of this thread? Absolutely in the long term. Will this ever affect bitcoin? If only for its influence on the dollae, absolutely.
18526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH is sick again on: November 25, 2016, 06:00:16 AM
Curious question but how did the recent upgrade cause these 2 big clients to get out of sync? From what little I understand when that happens it is very quickly realised (only takes a block for the mistake to become apparent no?) and the lagging one gets back in sync.

Or have I misunderstood this.
18527  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Paypal a scam? on: November 24, 2016, 11:13:44 PM
It isn't an outright scam but is most certainly has, or at least had, incredibly unfair business practices. Their cheap reason is because they get scammed a lot but even Visa or Mastercard who probably have the most fraud don't have the same (lack of) ethics PP does.

I still own a paypal account but have not used it for years after a particular incident where I was labelled a scammer on forums because my account was frozen just as I was paying for a service. It took weeks to resolve, and each new login or activity required me to send countless documents and information plus cost me so much in phone bills trying to deal with customer service, I just gave up.

What unfair business practices are you referring to? I've never seen them take any action that wasn't warranted. People try to use Paypal to scam all the time, and PP has had to develop measures to protect themselves. But anyone using the service within the terms of service is generally not have problems. Anyone attempting to abuse Visa or Mastercard in the same way would face the same repercussions. Visa and Mastercard also have a lot more leverage with consumers, in that they can negatively affect your credit score, whereas Paypal, which doesn't deal with credit, cannot and has to be more proactive to head off fraud.

I mentioned one example in my case: I wanted to pay for a creative design service it was a very simple job and it was delivered to me. I had a VERIFIED account, linked to my personal bank account, no limits and all that nonsense I had to send so many documents. I click send payment and account locked. They could never give a reason why other than it being standard practice for security and so on. Fine, never mind, apology accepted but I asked them to at least contact the seller to inform him that I wasn't scamming him. They couldn't do that. I had no other way to pay the person as he only wanted paypal. My reputation on a freelancing site was tarnished because of that one incident.

The issue was NOT resolved quickly enough, and I recall the most difficult document was they wanted a MORE detailed invoice FROM the seller, who was already so pissed at me and wouldn't provide anything more. Of course he never sent it so the issue remained unresolved. The account was eventually unrestricted after 180 days (or rather, the issue resolved itself by expiring after 180 days I guess) but you can guess I had given up by then.

The craziest thing for me was it was just below 100 dollars or so.

I think my feeling here is that PP operates very well in N America and Europe and possibly Singapore but when it was starting out in Malaysia, where I am from, it was extremely problematic and continues to be for me today. I called in many times and emailed about the login issue (I travel and each login from a different country seems to lock the account). I understand security issues but to:

1. lock you out requiring account access and re-verification which will take several days
2. Requiring multiple documents MULTIPLE times after verifying countless times
3. >24 hours response and in some cases not responding. I have an email as recent as October which was never responded to when yet again I was locked out, had no way to call support because they insisted I call my home country (on roaming, yes) and they only provided an email support as an alternative.

These are to me, unfair practices, given that I had zero restrictions, zero problems, zero verification needed to fund my Paypal account. So they happily took my funds with no complicated process, but to send it out? Hell or high water.

18529  Economy / Economics / Re: Will governments create their own cryptocurrency that will replace fiat? on: November 24, 2016, 04:16:22 PM
In the next 100 years, do you think Governments will create their own cryptocurrency or digital currency that will replace fiat currency, i.e. coins, paper money, the paper dollar,  etc.?

If it does happen, will it be like bitcoin or will it still represent gold like how today's money works?

most likely
for example is Sweden they are creating there own crypto in past 10 years they reduce usage of paper money by 40% and they are going in this direction of creading some coin that will be used in Sweden only at least for now

if this comes ok or with good result think that some other countries or government will use this model for them or they will create something else

I think Sweden was just quick to move into digital currency, and not crypto, but yeah I read also they're planning to just go all out and put paper fiat into extinction. Their citizens are already so used to it that it doesn't seem very far away in the future.

How quickly digital will replace paper actually just really relies on how soon and cheaply ppl can access tech. You'd be surprised to learn that digital currency is booming in East Africa (using mobile phone SMS) simply because anyone with a 20-yr old nokia can access that technology.

Booking Indonesian translation Wink

I read about blatant scamming actually good for scammers as the right language and straightforwardness actually hooks them the right type of people they're looking for. Like how Nigerian email cons are deliberately using imperfect grammar and spelling as it's evolved to appeal to particular type of gullible people.

If that address actually fills up, maybe he knows a thing or two about scamming. Hope this thread's taken down (I guess it hasn't broken any rules though?).
18531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone ever look at "Announcements (Altcoins)" anymore? on: November 24, 2016, 03:58:00 PM
I at least browse through the threads and read - just as I do in most other sections. I probably haven't grown to be as cynical as the rest of you lot, due to my tender age in cryptocurrency haha.

I must say that the more I read the whitepapers, the more I believe a lot of them are deliberately written in confusing technobabble. Very few address a need, most seem to just create issues and claim a solution.
18532  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: R.I.P Ethereum - The Pre-Mined ScamCoin is dead on: November 24, 2016, 03:53:19 PM
What we need to look at is,
what can you actually do with ETH at this point?
Its traded on exchanges, its even got integration on platforms like Coinbase, which was a huge deal, being able to convert back and forth to fiat.
There are apps like Augur in the works that are built on the ETH platform.

But what do you actually do with ETH? Can you pay for any goods/ services with it?
Since the answer seems to be no, comes the next question.
Is ETH actually worth almost $10?

I may be very new to the scene, but I've already used ETH to pay for one service in September and October... and I requested to get paid in ETH for a service I provide (content creation). I haven't counted but I *have* seen a few merchants accepting ETH so just wanted to point that out. BTW I am not an ETH supporter, just a hobbyist/collector of crypto.

18534  Economy / Economics / Re: How many Bitcoins for Retirement. For Average Age and Salary NEWBIE. on: November 23, 2016, 06:28:47 AM
I live in a place where $10 is a lot (I can if living alone eat well for a week on that, and if in distress could eat enough for 2 weeks). But retirement is probably just as expensive for me as it is for most other people... assuming I'm past the age of productive work, I'll need to eat slightly better, be able to afford rent and healthcare for I don't know... 20 years?

I feel like even that's 240 months... if 1 BTC is worth even 1,000 dollars then, I probably could use up 1 BTC in 3 months for my expensive adult diapers and heart tablets haha.
18535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Gridcoin Wallet a little mystifying... on: November 23, 2016, 06:19:46 AM
You might get a bit more joy if you post in the Altcoins Mining section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0

Just a Sunday hobby - personally only tried cpu/gpu mining for a handful of the big 4 and then on Monero... I always seem to lose credits also after a long stretch of not monitoring (sleep, for example). Never really figured out why and support became too technical for me.
18536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2017: The Year of Anonymous Coins on: November 22, 2016, 06:50:15 PM
I for one truly hope that 2017 will be the year that pump and dump alts and ICOs stop plying their trade (and hopefully the Average Joe wisens up).

I also hope it is the year that the big guns in bitcoin come out a bit more publicly with gentler and simpler tones - more people globally have to be brought into the fold. The technical experts cannot continue to look upon the rest with disdain, while taking advantage of them for profit.

In 2017, more altcoins will be well established. It is more difficult to create a new scam coin and then pump.

But why would the establishment of more altcoins make it more difficult to create new pump and dumps? The market is bursting at the seams but saturation still seems many altcoins away.

But I hope you're right, for whatever rationale.

18538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ZCash...500 BTC worth mined every day? on: November 22, 2016, 12:18:51 PM
There is about 4500 ZEC mined daily right now. In 2 weeks time yes there will be 7200.  What will be price then or next year on 4 years form now no one knows.

Well I for sure know that next years price have 0.0001% chance to hit the current price.

Good odds, relative to the way it's performing now anyway! Why aren't any of us surprised at these numbers? Because whether we want to admit it or not, we all knew it was just another alt-for-profit, regardless of (or maybe because of!) the early hype around it.
18539  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do Bitcoin and Chinese Yuan Values Correlate? on: November 22, 2016, 12:12:50 PM
Some shades in the same question asked of usd/btc values. Correlation is fairly easy to achieve with simple manipulation of data.

Perhaps more information will surface if comparing btc/usd vs usd/yuan price charts.
18540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Circle CEO on BTC: Nobody Will Be Using Bitcoin in 5 to 10 Years on: November 22, 2016, 12:04:43 PM
There's nothing wrong with an alternative view and such sweeping statements can be taken grossly out of context.

He may be speaking strictly from an economic point of view in which case he may be closer to home than we would comfortably believe.

Also, he singled out bitcoin and not crypto or blockchain.
