1881  Economy / Economics / Re: Can bitcoin survive without the Internet? on: October 19, 2014, 02:31:37 PM
Internet down = Bitcoin Doomsday

This internet things become the major risk for bitcoin.

Gox cause $ 1200 to $ 800 , Internet Down forever will cause Bitcoin $ 0 aka dust

And that's why it's not wise to invest all of one's wealth into bitcoin.

If the internet going down is the only risk with investing in bitcoins, I would gladly take it.  Grin
The 'internet going down' is far from the only risk of someone investing in bitcoin. There are many, many other risks involved in bitcoin. It is still very new and is far from certain to succeed over the long term.

The internet no longer existing is only one thing that would cause bitcoin to no longer become useful

The probability of the internet going down is almost zero. Bitcoin going down is possible (51% attack, government regulation, altcoin with a brilliant new idea, etc). Bitcoin would really have to develop before it becomes ubiquitous like the internet.

1883  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin is satanic and Satoshi is lucifer! My uncle claims! on: October 17, 2014, 04:22:07 PM
I've heard all the theories possible on this. Namely, Satoshi is the NSA, Satoshi is the Rothchilds+Rockefellers, Satoshi is Obama, Satoshi is Lucifer, Satoshi is Dorian Nakomoto... there is nothing new to say, what the hell is next?

We will just have to wait till he reveals himself.  Smiley

Got a 1 mBTC, again.  Grin

1 mBTC? That is quite a bit... More than a transaction fee.  Smiley

1888  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the World Really Abandon the Dollar As A Reserve Currency? on: October 16, 2014, 05:02:46 PM
It is really interesting to see how much influence Bitcoin will have on this. Altho days of USD as world reserve currency are already counted down, Bitcoin can decrease them drastically. It can all happen just in a decade.

I would wait to see at least 1 country officially accept Bitcoin. That would mean a real new threat to USD.

What do you understand as accept BTC. To totally ditch their own currency? and just depend on BTC?  Or just not make any fuss of it and accept Bitcoin as any other foreghin currency?

I think there are many countries that already did or will soon treat Bitcoin as was my second option.

I think it will take lots of time until this happen. I think every country will still push forward their own currency as much as they can.

You see on this forum in altcoin sections. Everyone pushes their own altcoin, no matter how good it is. But all of them accept other altcoins.
Accept them for the payment of taxes. Roll Eyes

Or maybe add it to their foreign currency holdings. Smiley

1890  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin distribution on: October 16, 2014, 04:57:19 PM

This is not about BTC design, but about the very nature of money and capitalism. Even if the initial distribution was made in such a way that everyone started with the same amount, it would eventually return back to a few people.

Right, the capital distribution in the world is only slightly different because of government control, so that the poor are not too poor. But since there is no control for the bitcoin world, the poor will be extremely poor, and the rich will be extremely rich.

I am sure implementation of tax laws with respect to bitcoin will get stringent very soon.
1891  Economy / Economics / Re: China will become Super Power ? on: October 16, 2014, 04:55:11 PM
There is alot fake stuff from china , they clone everything and sell with cheap price.
Cheap but low quality.

China will become one of Good Economic Country in the world , but super power ? No

China has large growth of middle income population layer. This means they have bigger salaries that enables them to buy more expensive products thus making demand for higher quality.

This demand forces product quality to rise to meet demand. Whole process is slowly rolling to higher quality of all products.

Strong middle layer makes country strong. China is growing rapidly with some bumps on the road but evenutaly there will be tipping point when it passes US.

Everything depends on the future actions of US though. Only time will tell, but I am almost certain that we should start learning Chinese Cheesy

yes you right , chinese languange is become important in asia now ,in my country for new recruit in some company they must be fluent in english and chinese.

There goes my chance of a global career. Smiley
1892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin War on: October 16, 2014, 04:53:16 PM
The war will be to control hashing power.
An arms race has already begun. Secret agencies are stockpiling mining equipment.  Wink
1893  Economy / Economics / Re: Mainstream merchant adoption leads do declining Bitcoin price? on: October 15, 2014, 01:53:10 AM

I double checked, the block reward is currently 25 and that means 3600 bitcoins come into play a day.  By the end of next year though that will half to 1800 and I think that might help the system as a whole.  Not sure though.

The block reward drop is 2 years away.

1894  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: October 15, 2014, 01:51:12 AM
Gold for long investment  >10 years .Why ? small profit but im sure gold price will always up every year.
BTC for short investment < 2 years.

People usually think the other way around. No matter what might happen in the short term, bitcoin is going to massively rise in the long term.

Yes. If Bitcoin 1.0 dies out, Bitcoin 2.0 will come.

Bitcoin dieing is not some thing that people in this forum believe can happen.  Grin
1895  Economy / Economics / Re: [ANN] Announcing the first Bitcoin Exchange In Pakistan on: October 15, 2014, 01:49:48 AM
Its not just avoiding fees or remittance that we are concerned about. In Pakistan there is no way for people to get paid from international markets think of the huge workforce that will be available internationally and the amount of jobs it will create for freelancers from Pakistan. Websites that have difficult times using costly setup because of no credit card acceptance in Pakistan can now accept this and be secured with their payments. The potential is huge.

Aren't bank transfers possible to Pakistan? Bitcoin might help in micropayments, but then again, this problem is not specific to Pakistan.
1896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we build the crypto economy on: October 15, 2014, 01:47:52 AM
Options 1 and 2 are interrelated.
Higher merchant adoption will get the masses interested and vice versa.
1897  Economy / Economics / Re: Why bitcoin prices are always very unstable on: October 15, 2014, 01:45:14 AM
I agree that bots were certainly used, however I don't think there is evidence that the bots were used to manipulate the prices. From what I can tell the willy bot was only a way that whales were able to buy up large amounts of bitcoin without suffering excess slippage.

If the price moved up by such a large amount when the bots were buying, there definitely was slippage. Smiley
1898  Economy / Economics / Re: (The Fed) Federal Reserve Inc. = 100 Years of Failure on: October 14, 2014, 01:30:56 AM
whilst I agree with a lot of what that says, the undeniable fact remains that the US has achieved massive growth during the last 100 years, and indeed even the poorest people in the USA live enviable lives compared to people in other countries.

And the credit for growth goes to the Fed?
1899  Economy / Economics / Re: Stock market tanking away to day. on: October 14, 2014, 01:28:25 AM
The real estate bubble is about to burst across the world.

So is this good for real estate business or bad?

Of course it is bad for the industry. Smiley
Not so much for first time home buyers though.
1900  Economy / Economics / Re: What happens when all your VISA charges are doubled for two days? on: October 14, 2014, 01:23:15 AM
This is a peculiar scenario
So they doubled charged everyone hoping no one would be the wiser
Sounds like a bank

Of course they do it knowing that some people don't notice and they keep the change
The ones that do notice only get their money back no additional bonus for catching their mistakes or compensation in any way.

Meaning its a profit every time as long as they aren't stupid and do it to too many people at one time.
The ones that do notice would grumble but usually keep with their bank unless it was large scale like this case though.

The bad PR would easily outweigh any small transactions that go unnoticed.  Smiley
