1881  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 18, 2013, 10:55:05 AM
I am speaking with manufacturers to have heatsinks made for the Klondike board. Having heatsinks made is going to be less expensive than purchasing and modifying any current solution. I need to know who is planning on purchasing boards, what quantity, and whether or not they would want a heatsink.

Specs are:
100x100x25mm
3mm base
1mm fins
2mm spacing
6000 series aluminum
4 mounting holes drilled, located in center of each 4 chip group.
Flat base/underside

This is a one time deal. Enough heatsinks need to be purchased to cover all the boards, with a few extra. Purchasing additional heatsinks in low quantity will be prohibitively expensive. These heatsinks will not be made available to the general public. They will only be made available to those offering bulk purchasing as I cannot sell these piecemeal. I will be offering as part of a package to those who purchase chips through me.

Group buy coordinators, Large private buyers, and Klondike resellers need to contact me ASAP.

Think people need to do heat sinks in local context. Larger orders shipped world wide going to get expensive for weight right? I am looking in Indonesia for a supplier for my boards. Might be smart for those with larger orders of boards to simply put heat sinks on after getting them.
Tru unless we do have time for a month shipment of the heat sinks. For a big order it will not matter
1882  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: May 18, 2013, 10:43:12 AM
I've swapped that unit over to a Raspberry Pi.  Quite painlessly, actually.  Removed the P5 jumper, grabbed a longer USB cable, compiled cgminer with Avalon support, and off she went.  To anyone else who might also try this, I had to run cgminer as root.  I had a rules.d for the FTDI, but maybe that wasn't working for some reason. meh.

I will let this run for a little while and see how is does.

Quote
Check the usb Cable first dude.
I checked to make sure it was seated correctly, along with the other cables.  However, I didn't try swapping the USB cable.  I might give that a try later after letting the Raspberry Pi have its fun.
Super - in case there are still problems using PC change the cable or put a hub in between.
Let us know how it goes

1883  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I'm starting to get fucking pissed (BFL) on: May 18, 2013, 10:40:14 AM
My advice: get a refund and don't look back.
My advise is - Unite and go to the court. It is US company after all. Where is American justice on the movies only or? I am pretty dam sure that there will be a plenty of lawyers interested in such big case we are talking for millions. When they see a REAL i repeat A !REAL! thread about their business and personalities things will start to move in a right direction FAST!

Remember - You have to unite first and act as ONE otherwise you are going to loose for SURE

Best
PS:
I can bet if all of you fire a claim worth for millions for preordes and another one 10xMilions for lost profits you will be rewarded with a lot of free units and all other fancy stuff coming from BFL. But i doubt it will happen because here everyone watches his own interest only and there is no community spirit at all. I might be wrong about the lack of spirit and i do really want to be ...only time will tell
1884  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 18, 2013, 07:33:39 AM
I thought the chips were roughly 2.5watts each, so 16 x 2.5 would be 40watts rather than the 32watts in the OP?

Has anyone heard anymore from Avalon about the open source details of their modules that were supposed to be released in May? It's just we are over half way though May already.
Concerning modules almost all info is already on their github except Power PCB BOM
You can check it.
1885  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: May 18, 2013, 07:13:40 AM
One of my Batch #2 Avalons is having trouble.  Every so often (~15 minutes on average) I get a long burst of these kinds of messages in the System Log (dmesg):

Code:
May 18 06:42:59 avalon1 kern.err kernel: [ 3872.320000] usb 1-1: clear tt 1 (8040) error -71
May 18 06:42:59 avalon1 kern.err kernel: [ 3872.330000] ftdi_sio ttyUSB1: failed to get modem status: -71
May 18 06:42:59 avalon1 kern.err kernel: [ 3872.340000] usb 1-1: clear tt 1 (8040) error -71
May 18 06:42:59 avalon1 kern.err kernel: [ 3872.350000] ftdi_sio ttyUSB1: failed to get modem status: -71
May 18 06:42:59 avalon1 kern.err kernel: [ 3872.350000] usb 1-1: clear tt 1 (8040) error -71
May 18 06:42:59 avalon1 kern.err kernel: [ 3872.460000] ftdi_sio ttyUSB1: failed to get modem status: -32

While that is occuring, all mining stops.  Either it eventually goes back to normal, or I see a message in the System Log saying that ttyUSB1 was disconnected, and then reconnected as ttyUSB0 (and vica-versa).  cgminer dies if that happens, and restarts.

I have another Batch #2 running smoothly.  So far, I have checked all of the connectors on the TP-LINK, PDU, and control unit.  I replaced the PSU, left the cover off, and left the PSU outside of the unit.  No joy.  All of the version numbers match my other Batch #2, so there are no differences in software/firmware.  One odd thing is that I notice mention of a usb hub on the wiki page, but there is no hub inside either of my black Avalons.  Is the hub built into the control unit?

I can only think of two other things to try.  Backup the working Avalon, and flash it to this Avalon, in case there's something weird in the software.  Or, replace the TP-LINK with a RasPi and hope that the control unit isn't at fault.
Check the usb Cable first dude.

If i were you i would remove p5 jumper, use USB powered hub and connect usb cable to batch one unit easiest or to linux PC to check. But first change usb cables and try other ports of internal usb hub if batch2 still has it

1886  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: May 18, 2013, 06:46:54 AM
Today I turned it on:

It works great but seems one module is broken, the other 2's heats and works flawlessly.. the bad one is colder. I'm not getting the average 65Gh/s of a standard Avalon. This is very frustrating  Cry

I believe my unit was damaged during freight or even at customs, but considering the unusual scratches and dust inside of a the unit.. there is no doubt this is a used before item.
On the other hand, the parcel was amazingly well wrapped and sealed.. thick foam packing bars on every corner + full of airy sheets inside & outside of the containing box.. Really, I can't imagine what kind of scenario it had to go through to end like this.
Some might blame EMS others might accuse Avalon Team, but I'm the true victim here. Receiving a used unit never was part of the pre-order conditions (correct me if I'm wrong).

Does the Avalon warranty applies here? please share your thoughts.

Dude,

There are reports that the module could work with some of sub modules removed. If the whole module is cold it probably means that there is a problem with power cable. If i remember the cable was damaged according to your pictures. Take a multimeter and make sure that power power cable is ok. The second thing to check is to disassemble the module and see if hash power PCB is damaged (the board with connectors where asic are plugged). If above two are ok, you can test all 8 modules separately this is presumption.
About the warranty that shall be commented by Avalon but i think it shall be replaced and it will take time for sure.
If all of the above fails we badly need 10 Asics for Klondike project
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=190731.0
and we would be more than happy to buy part or whole 8 x 10 Asic chips.

PM me if interested

Remember guys, batch2 has a black casing. Just because of this, it should be worth at least 600btc.

+1

Don't worry bro, haters are just jealous. I'd fork over 300btc for this beauty if I had it.
You are in charity business are not you?

Please donate to good cause then.

Or probably you are missing basic math lessons?

Any way i will be glad this to go for 400 BTC and max inbox profit. And batch 4 to reach 600 Btc per avalon. That is going to be the case if i was in Yufu shoes for sure! It suits me best. Good luck to all of you.

You seem to be very good at counting other peoples' money.
Wrong again i am counting my money only. I do not count others at all. You are not getting the point at all dude. I do not care if he will sell and he probably will sell his unit for that amount i do care about consequences that is all. But it is not important for sure at least for you.
For 300 BTC you can buy 6 blades 12GH each = 1 Avalon. But Asicminer is a producer and he is the one to decide about the price. following this math batch 4 avalon shall cost 4 times more and it will. Are you going to be happy? What about the community? The happiest person will be the inbox himself and few others who made some quick money.

Yes, welcome to the real world, where there are winners and losers.
Yes life is a bitch. Some win some loose. With that deal there is only one to win and many to loose (not only the buyer). As i said good luck to inbox and who ever gets the unit.

Hi,
I own custom machined parts shop .( EU based)
We do a lot of custom fans .
May be it'll be a  good way to use standad Alu profile to be cut and drilled to specs.
Most probably it's going to be with ribs in one direction .
In a day or two I provide calculation based on your specs
I am interested marto. It may turn out that i will be able to pick up my heatsinks locally Smiley. Buy the way can you make some calcs for original Avalon heat sink also. It may turn out that i (and other folks) will need some of them also.

Personally I think that after that they delayed batch 2 for 2 months (and counting) they really can't tell us what to do with our units. I'm quite sure that he wouldn't have sold it, if the unit was received on time (firsts of march).

I get your point, but I don't agree with you.
Nope dude. I am not advocating for Avalon and their delays BUT i am sure that dude did not have any intention to mine with his unit at all. And it is not only him and a lot of others also. That makes me think that this is the main reason for delay. And that delay is happening on purpose to prevent this. And we all suffer and will have our batch 2 units after 30 days not early because of this

Avalon are purposely delaying orders just to spite people reselling? C'mon

This guy wanting to sell his order makes no difference to anyone else's order! It's his, he bought it, he can do what he wants with it.
Correct. It is his unit and he is free to sell it no doubt. I wish ngzhang ot Yufu to put a word here but they will rather do it. If they do the things written can surprise you for sure.

You are a star!
My suggestion is to live oscillator  if possible. 1 USD is not deal breaker at all. If i understand it right oscillator  will work better compared to  internal PIC oscillator, right? It might be a stupid question as long as i am not hw expert but  having both oscillator + NOR Gate will not do any harm to design. If yes please leave external oscillator.
10X
No, the NOR gate and the oscillator are unrelated. Just both design changes made today. The spot for the oscillator will still be there but during testing I will be able to test without it by shorting two pads, bypassing it. Doing this and seeing how stable the ASIC is will tell me if it can be removed entirely. Typically at these clock speeds the jitter isn't an issue but since the ASIC multiplies the clock to get up to 300 MHz it could be, and so it needs to be tested and probably scoped before any decision. The PIC clock is good enough for USB specs and it would just be nice to remove unnecessary parts.
Super!

Thanks!

BKK,

Please comment allten post about I/O timing.
10X
This did look tricky at first and a software only solution would be difficult or impossible. I went to bed last night thinking about how to make this work. Woke up this morning with the answer.

I'm using a single NOR gate on the REPORT_N / _P outputs. This combines the two data signals to extract a separate CLK. I use the EUSART on the PIC in Synchronous Slave Mode. This accepts stateless data RX, CLK as input and shifts in data at high speed. I take REPORT_N as data (either will do) and the combined CLK. The UART has a 2 char FIFO and interrupt, so the instruction cycle isn't a constraint any more. Oh, and I've added a small capacitor to delay the clock edge slightly because the NOR gate doesn't have much delay. This should make data sampling reliable.

I already had the UART pins routed to the ASIC but was expecting asynchronous data. So had to change plans on that.

So total cost for solution is 0.12 gate, 0.015 cap = $0.135.

I've already discussed this with allten and we also discussed being able to remove the oscillator and use the internal oscillator in the PIC. This saves about $1 cost but will depend on whether the ASIC can live with the jitter as the PIC PLL is not as good as an oscillator. I don't know how sensitive the ASIC PLL will be, but I'll leave the oscillator pads on board so that either method can be used.

He, he got incredibly lucky.
But how does he damages the other Avalon customers? Sorry but as you said, I don't understand it.
Put your self in place of ngzhang or Yufu? What will you think abut this? And how are you going to treat this dude on his next order for example? How you will make a difference between him and rest of us? Do you got it?
1897  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 1x Avalon ASIC Batch #2 w/ tracking information SHIPPED!! on: May 17, 2013, 07:28:36 AM
Why you dont complain at the same level of the am blades, that are as massively overpriced as this?
If not for 300btc, I'm quite sure that he will have no problem placing it in the 200/250btc range.
You do not get the point dude..Any way I am not interested in the blades and did not post a single line there about crazy price about 50 BTC for 12GH. Every one decides what to spend his BTC for. What is happening with offers like this is to make all Avalon customers to suffer because of the guy's like him. And most sad part that this dude was chosen by Avalon team so he can got his unit first. That is why i am complaining!
1898  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 1x Avalon ASIC Batch #2 w/ tracking information SHIPPED!! on: May 17, 2013, 07:22:18 AM

Feel free to post your offer if you are interested.
Here is my offer
I do have batch1 unit minig making 71GH in working condition
I am offering it for 9999 BTC and i will will include free fastest possible shipping to anywhere as a BONUS.
PM me if interested Grin
This is just crazy!!!!
PS:  9999 BTC Price is final no comments and no REFUNDS!
On a seccond tought price has just increased to 99 999 BTC. Act fast it will go higher for sure !

Order #44xx made on February 2, 2013. Order status: completed.

I have tracking number for this order. Should arrive Friday/Monday according to DHL. Buy now.

BTC (escrow payment with john) or wire transfer.

300btc
300BTC? Are you crazy? How long do you think it will pay out? I am wondering why are you buying it after all? To make some quick money or what?

Any way it is a free market and people just got insane.

Let me point that now Avalon is making about 3 BTC per day and that amount will decrease for sure. So 8+ months for ROI i am not mentioning the fact that it will pay out eventually in 12+ months
Good luck with your sale dude
The buyer will take all the risk and spend about 22 000 EU. And you will collect about 14000 EU seems fair deal to me
I am not mentioning the fact that batch 2 was priced in USD not BTC!
1900  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 16, 2013, 06:26:28 PM
But the blade is made up of multiple modules of 10 chips each. If one chip fails, only that module stops working. I don't know for certain, but I can only assume that removing a module or two of 10 chips each would not take down the entire unit. But I'm only assuming, and we know what that means...  Cheesy

I guessed about this too... the risk probably lies between a complete blade (80 chips) to the 10 chips you mentioned. Would be probably better to know it before taking chips out.

He can test by just removing the 10-chip board, and seeing if it still works. If it works without the board, he can leave the board out, and remove chips from it, leaving the board(s) out until he gets the chips back.  Grin

Yes that is what i am thinking. I will skip remove part though i am not skilled enough. Let us wait to see if avalon will send demo chips as promissed. Or if we can buy broken module from somwhere
