1922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the three most important features of a crypto-exchange? on: March 01, 2018, 09:20:49 AM
This is a nice post. In my opinion, an exchange should let you deposit and withdraw fiat, should have low transaction / withdraw /deposit fees and must have a good network connection in order to let you transact without problems. The last one is the most important. We all know the frustration we have when we want to sell at a specific moment and the exchange webpage doesn't respond because the network was crowded. Anonymity is not possible if you want to use fiat money. If you don't need to use fiat a decentralized exchange is probably a much better option.
1923  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is MEW Safe to use now? on: March 01, 2018, 07:39:59 AM
MEW is safe as long as you keep your computer safe. Usually when I'm reading about hacker attacks always there is a problem with the victim's computer which was compromised. Some of them use it for gaming torrents and exchanges. Another one had all his coins in one app and used his phone in open WIFI.
What I want to say is that we must be very careful, if you can't have a 2nd PC just for transactions, buy a hardware wallet or use paper wallets, but don't blame MEW or other wallets.

1925  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what altcoin is suitable for long-term storage?? on: February 28, 2018, 08:56:11 AM
All coins mentioned are very very good. But if I were you, I would invest in more than one coin. They say it is not good to keep all the eggs in the same basket.
So it would be better to choose a number of coins and split equally your money to them. Store them in paper wallets keep the private keys safe and just forget them.
Be sure you make a plan on how long you want to keep them and don't be tempted to sell them.

I am confused to determine which altcoin I will buy to keep in the long run, do you think?
Ofcourse if you plan on investing for long term, id suggest you better invest to trusted crypto and to the crypto that has big potential. So id like to recommend
1. Btc
2. Eth
3. Ltc
4. Neo

1927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC or Eth as payment solution on: February 28, 2018, 08:24:16 AM
Both coins are good for transactions because they have low fees.
I would choose both coins because in business you have to be ready to accept anything that your customer has to offer.
But if I had to pick one of them I would choose Litecoin. I am a little bit sceptical on how the Ethereum blockchain will manage a so huge number of data with so many smart contracts and coin transactions running (forever) on it.
This is my concern otherwise both are perfect altcoins.

As a payment solution for businesses, vendors and services which one of these coins is more suitable? Litecoin or Ethereum ?
Because bitcoin is not good especially because of high fees and slow transactions in smaller payments.

Which one is better and why?
1928  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litepay game changer for LTC? on: February 28, 2018, 08:04:32 AM
I like Litecoin and I always considered it as a decent coin. Actually, I bought it because it had a good price.
I've never regretted, the coin's price doubled and tripled many times but it seems that it was somehow stuck and I thought that it hadn't anything else to give.
Litepay is an innovation in the cryptocurrencies and I believe that it will inspire other coins too, for better ideas.
I am very positive and I believe it can boost the price much higher.
1929  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tips To Keep Your Cryptocurrency Safe on: February 27, 2018, 06:57:39 PM
The safest way to keep your cryptocurrency is paper wallets. If you are a holder and do not use your coins, you can make a wallet in an offline PC, or by booting your computer using a Linux cd. I used another way because I have a Raspberry Pi.
I've created a new Raspbian version and I've downloaded the wallets then unplugged it from the internet, and when I was ready with the addresses I've formatted the mini SD card. If you make transactions it is better to use a hot wallet - cold wallet combination.
A hardware wallet is a good option too.
1930  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to stick to your crypto portfolio for long term investing? on: February 27, 2018, 06:35:15 PM
I think the best is to have a plan and stick to it. For example, you can pick 2 - 3 coins or more and invest some money in them.
If you want to invest long term, it is easy, make some offline addresses (ex. paper wallets) send the money from the exchange, and forget them (except you private nr).
Then you can decide to invest (let say $100 each month) if later you find a new coin interesting, and read a lot for it, just buy it and you'll have one more in your portfolio.
The question, how long to keep the investment, depends on your needs. The majority says 5 to 10 years.
I say if your investment is enough to buy a house and you live on rent, then buy the house, it is a better investment.
1931  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTCP/Electrum Wallet Issues on: February 27, 2018, 06:04:41 PM
First of all check the wallet's address again, in order to be sure that you have given the correct number.
Then connect to the blockchain explorer of your coin) giving your address in order to check the balance.
The transactions need some time in order to send the money. If you still your balance is zero, the best you have to do is to contact Cryptopia and tell your problem.
I hope that your PC wasn't compromised and the wallet you've downloaded was the correct and not a copy.

In need of help...

Bought ZCL on Cryptopia, downloaded the new ZCL Electrum Wallet compatible with BTCPrivate. I *thought* I had everything set up correctly for the transfer to the wallet. Several hours after sending it from exchange to wallet, on Cryptopia, it says "Complete". My wallet shows a zero balance of ZCL, nothing even pending. I don't know what to do, so I'm freaking out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1933  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin making alts useless on: February 26, 2018, 05:36:10 AM
Bitcoin is the first crypto ever created and this is the reason that makes it popular. It is the first thing people think when they hear about digital currency.
When I found out this forum, I didn't know there were other digital coins too. It was also the first coin I have ever bought.
I believe more or less this pattern of behaviour, like mine, is the most common among people.
I don't believe there are useless alts unless those created for profit. or the decentralized ones that we all know (more or less) who they are.
1934  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is 1ETH=$10,000 worth the possibility? on: February 25, 2018, 02:58:07 PM
Ethereum is, in my opinion, the most important existing coin. Bitcoin is the father of all cryptos and worths our respect, but the ability of smart contracts can easily launch Ethereum to much higher prices than 10K. Unfortunately, there are other coins able for smart contracts too and that thing can slow up Ethereum to reach a higher price.
Another disadvantage is that Ethereum seems to be somehow connected with the Bitcoin (as all the rest alts) and its price is stuck.
1935  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: better invest and hold Bitcoin or Altcoin? on: February 24, 2018, 11:49:56 AM
They say, it is not wise to keep all the eggs in the same basket. You can say the same about investments.
If you want to be a holder, I would suggest to divide your portfolio into many parts and buy more than 2 or 3 good coins and keep them safe in your off-line wallet.
If you intent to be a day trader i think you can buy more, in order to get advantage of the volatility of their price.
It is not an easy task and soon you'll find out that not all people can to be traders.
1936  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Open source, safe... and then Windows on: February 24, 2018, 09:25:38 AM
I believe that a dedicated computer just for your wallet and your transactions is the best option. I don't think that Linux is better than Windows.
If you have one PC for games, torrent cracked programs and your transactions you have many possibilities to be the next victim.
Linux has the advantage to be free and there are versions running on older computers.
Read about cold - hot wallets, how to use them and what a safe transaction means and you'll be alright. It is not a rocket science...

I ahve read many security advices telling how you should keep your keys off-line and make sure you only use open source wallets and app. And then all that goes into Windows, one of the most obscure pieces of software known to mankind.

Is safety achieved on Win or you have to stick to Linux?
1937  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does a smart contract give you any assurance? on: February 23, 2018, 11:10:56 AM
I think, that almost all smart contracts are published on GitHub, but that doesn't make them more trustful.
You probably know that the majority of the investors don't know how to read the code. Even if an ICO doesn't publish their smart contract, it would be better to read the white book of the ICO, to check their webpage (if there are any phone numbers to call, emails, address etc) and check the names of the team. Do they exist? Do they have a profile on Linkedin? Any followers?
If you search this forum, you'll find more information.

Does a good Github and a publicly written smart contract give you any assurance regarding the legitimacy of an ICO? How? Does a project look more legit by having it?

1938  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happens when I blockchain gets too big? on: February 23, 2018, 09:11:05 AM
I suppose it is going to be bigger and bigger. A normal 8086 PC back in 1989 had just a floppy disk or two.
If you wanted a 25mb Hard Disk, you should pay extra for it, and it was very expensive. A simple web browser today has much more than 25mb.
If you buy a PC today, you'll probably have a 1 TB HD or more.
What I want to say is that as the technology evolves, HD's became bigger, less expensive and available for applications like blockchain.
1939  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Creating paper wallet while offline on: February 22, 2018, 11:53:51 AM
The Blockchain records only the transactions and the new coins created by the miners. If you type one by one all the addresses that can ever exist, it will return 0 or a number (the existing amount of coins). When you create an address online or offline the blockchain doesn't know it.
If you transfer a coin to this address then it will record it and will return the transferred value or the sum of the address.
I hope I have helped.

I want to understand the background of this:

Once I've created my paper wallet offline (with a generator) I go back online and all of a sudden there's a new empty wallet "floating" around somewhere just waiting to recieve coins.

How is this possible when I was offline the whole time during the creation of the wallet? There was no communication with anything on the internet.  Huh
1940  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to not waste time with terrible bounties - for dummies on: February 22, 2018, 10:26:26 AM
This is one of the useful posts I have read on this forum. I confess that many of what you have written was completely new to me.
By reading it I recognize many of the mistakes I have made so far myself due to lack of experience.
Nevertheless, I believe luck plays an important role in whether someone will make a profit or not because many good bounties do not have a good development and then fail.
Even a good manager cannot save a good bounty.
