1921  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tradingview Error, its all blank on: October 14, 2021, 01:58:49 AM
What source are you getting the price from (exchange and pair)? I've experienced slowdown in price updates before now (especially on the few seconds chart where trades have gone through but the candles come in in a different order or something - so they're not just trading gaps because they get filled in).

It's likely graphing is prioritised more on exchanges that are integrated with tradingview and less on exchanges where they might be more interested in selling their own data and/or providing their own charts.
1922  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: October 13, 2021, 08:38:48 PM

Which means that my wallet isn't synced. How does the synchronization work? My bitcoin node (on testnet) is fully synchronized with the network. (with txindex=1)

Afaik, lightning nodes Index the network's channels to find routes through them. Have you tried leaving an lnd application open to see what it reports - as in syncing progress or something?
1923  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Arbitage trading on: October 13, 2021, 03:00:59 PM
Generally arbitrage trading benefits someone with funds in a lot of pairs on a lot of exchanges as you can do immediate buys and sells. This is the main way it works, I've seen divergences between prices of coins like eth last a long time when we're in a bear market but I still wouldn't rely on that.

Also take into account: a lot of exchanges might scam, especially the non major ones. And there's also trading fees to account for that you'll have to beat.
1924  Economy / Economics / Re: Is mintable.app good enough as marketplace for NFT? on: October 13, 2021, 02:29:04 PM
If you're not paying gas, I'd check to see how much you actually own the asset in the terms and conditions of the app.

If it's on an app the I'm also just assuming it's not decentralised and you might face additional problems in the future (eg what if the app goes offline, that's more likely - in my opinion - than the eth blockchain just going offline)?

And how does account recovery work? Can it be exploited, I think I'd have security concerns with something like that too.

Also nfts might not be the best or safest investment but I've not done much research on them so...
1925  Economy / Economics / Re: What will cause the next recession? on: October 12, 2021, 02:50:05 PM
Is recession inevitable?

In the current climate, there aren't many people dictating how many live their lives and a lot of those people (setting rates of the central bank for example) come from very similar backgrounds and are quite similar. Banks aren't controlled by many people either and often follow others, in the UK many habe the exact same interest rates on loans...

What measures can prevent recessions?

Probably making governments have a stock pile of funds they can give away to companies to keep them afloat or try to find a balance in the economy of permenant fixed rate assets.

Is it an end of a financial era or a temporary setback?

This is going to depend on how long you think an era is. Typically, over 20+ years, it can be viewed as a temporary set back overall. For people with jobs, assets and businesses they lose during a recession, it is going to be an end of an era for them.
1926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: iancloman+bitaddress.org and passphrase as a privatekey for coldstorage ? on: October 11, 2021, 08:12:39 PM
Aside from what bhc says which uou should consider (also maybe find a wallet you can download and trust that does accept bip39 if you do really need it for some reason).

I don't know if it's even possible to use a private key as a passphrase but it's not very useful either way - especially since you can just use part of an electrum seed.
1927  Economy / Services / Re: [open]1 week signature campaign ->>The International at 1xBit<<- no spots limit! on: October 11, 2021, 01:52:50 PM
Anyone applying for this might want to be aware of the open scam accusations against 1xbit: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2835882
1928  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC reach $100,000 in December? on: October 11, 2021, 01:03:55 AM
Because most of my friends believe that BTC reached 100,000 US dollars in December, so I want to discuss whether this is true Grin

This has been quite a long standing speculation and something that might become true just because people think it'll happen. We did get quite high and I think it's likely we'll see a new all time high within a year but whether that'll be $100k or not would be different...

Also if you're asking this because you're thinking of investing, it might be a bad idea to (at least with an unaffordable amount).
1929  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is Shiba Inu Coin a better investment than Dogecoin? on: October 10, 2021, 08:25:26 PM
And they probably won’t be around in the next 10 years.

Doge probably will, that's the only one I know a bit about though... It was always a meme coin and I think it'll probably stay.
It likely won't stay where it is now (compared with bitcoin especially) but I think a lot of people that have maintained the network until this point have just been doing that as a bit of fun too. They had quite a long blockchain compared to everything else a while ago too (I think I remember an order of: eth, btc, doge in length a few years back).
1930  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core Full Node and Port Forwarding on: October 10, 2021, 04:08:26 AM
Anyway, I realized that I'm not going to be a very useful full node because I do not have the ability to port forward at my new apartment.
If anyone knows a backend way to port forward or whether VPN services that allow port forwarding would work let me know. This would also be helpful for my bittorrent seeding which hasn't been working since I moved houses.

Quick fix for those: have you thought about routing them through tor?

It's normally recommended not to do the initial download over tor (because of its size - even if it is a slow download) but you'd still be able to connect to others and send blocks out/broadcast your own transactions.

I'm guessing you have no control over routers and such where you are too so I doubt vpns will work that well or at all (depending on how strong their firewall is).
1931  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What if the founder of Ethereum sells all the Ethereum he has in his wallet? on: October 09, 2021, 10:37:35 PM
Currently, price crashes spread the word about something. If it became headline news, I could see both securities doing well out of it.

That being said, an initial crash would be inevitable for both and might mean vitalik would have to accept less for his eth per unit so it's probably unlikely that'll happen (at least all at once).
1932  Other / Meta / Re: How can I change my Name? on: October 09, 2021, 10:33:18 PM
I have made a mistake, how can I change my forum name?

You might be better off just making a new account and moving on.

You can pm the admin but since you're pretty new, you might not get a response or they might not think it's worth doing because you might not stay for long.

Name changes also leave marks normally so you'll still have people seeing your old name in certain contexts (eg sending a message on the forum).
1933  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where to sell bitcoins without ID verification on: October 09, 2021, 05:17:49 PM
Hi everyone.I have some bitcoins that i want to switch into my bank account, but i have only found websites that require ID verification... Can anyone help me find some solution or recommend me some website?

For your own safety, it might be better just to kyc with a known exchange - especially for larger amounts.

Most non kyc exchanges limit you on how much you're able to transfer over a certain time period and you're likely going to have to give someone your name too.(for a bank account).

Of course if there was a reason you don't want to use kyc (for traceability for example) the community might be able to help you more specifically with that.
1934  Other / Meta / Re: How to buy a membership on the forum? on: October 09, 2021, 12:59:36 AM
The main purchasable membership is the copper membership I think the main advantages are halving the posting limit (newbies have to wait 360 seconds at most) and giving you a member signature - check the information available on that link and in the meta section to confirm what you're actually getting though. I'm not sure either of these are too useful though if you don't want them, I'd view a copper membership as a way to contribute to the forum and you could just do that later on if you wanted anyway.
1935  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hallo Meta on: October 09, 2021, 12:38:30 AM
Not sure about becoming a campaign manager but I would say: just don't try to hard on everything.

If you try hard at too much, you won't last and a lot of people might start to have problems with you from what I've seen around this forum so far. Trying too hard has been a red flag for a while (especially for community managed systems like trust). Focus yourself on authenticity and what you're actually interested in.
1936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Sep 2021] Mempool empty! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: October 08, 2021, 04:56:26 PM

The assumption that the fees were going to remain high was to assume that we were entering a more or less sustained price increase, which seems quite reasonable [...]
I am seriously interested if there is any data that backs this up; I mean the idea that there is not only a correlation between mempool size and Bitcoin price increase, but also that it's the causation for it. Why I ask this? Because (unfortunately) many people leave their funds on the exchange. So even if many people buy or many people sell, if it's all done on-exchange, there are no Bitcoin transactions needed. Now, this is only a hypothesis as well; I don't have numbers for it.

There must be some data showing it because a volatility rise normally always increases the fees (even some crashes have afaik).

The first wave of the current market sent us up to about 150 sats per byte. There also seem to be people tracking outflows from exchanges (although apparently glassnode is a paid for service) there might be ways to programmatically determine this if you wanted to though by looking at volume increases from an exchanges cold funds or making a withdraw (as a lot will be batched together or traceable).
1937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it possible to just copy and paste the bitcoin code? on: October 07, 2021, 08:00:05 PM
If this is possible would this produce the key to the genesis block? I am very curious why you'd see bitcoin spinoffs like BCH have different wallet formats than bitcoin.

As part of the source code for bitcoin, the genesis block reward is unspendable so you wouldn't be able to spend it unless you changed that and you might have to fix any security loopholes it could produce.

Although if you meant just making your own genesis block, you can of course do that but it's normally hard coded into clients that are distributed - potentially either for security reasons or to reduce errors/error handling as soon as the client is started.
1938  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Whose fault is that? on: October 07, 2021, 03:01:22 AM
Chain of events:

- FTX rebranded Pax to USDP on their deposit page, but they failed to notify users for the update.

- USDP is also ticker used by Unit protocol's stable coin.

- One FTX user assumed that exchange supports the Unit Protocol's stable coin - USDP, and he deposited the same (which in reality is not supported by the exchange but is erc20 token so ends up in exchange's address).

Was there a disclaimer about the name change on the deposit screen?

I don't think ftx have much of a reason to actually charge a fee for this either if they haven't explicitly put out any form of warning to say it's their own stable coin and not someone else's.

Also I haven't heard of "unit protocol" perhaps the exchange hasn't either but it might be useful got exchanges to start linking the contract address for coins or something identifiable on the chain to give users more confidence.

Updating conditions is shady. I'm not sure how enforceable online terms and conditions are (other than ones that get you to do a task such as answer questions, rewrite the paraphrased ToS or give a checkbox for a few important conditions they'd want to enforce) but you normally also need notice before they come into effect.
1939  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Would it be poor taste to translate existing posts into other languages? on: October 05, 2021, 08:03:19 PM
Generally if the post is from yourself:
Translate the post (without using an online translator on the whole thing) and link the original post at the bottom to say if was a translation.

If the post was made by someone else, it might be good etiquette to get the poster's permission before doing it but I'd: send a pm, wait a week and then post if they approve or don't respond.
1940  Economy / Economics / Re: Why exchanges are charging a big amount as transaction fee on withdrawal on: October 05, 2021, 01:01:19 PM
I normally just convert my coins to another currency on an exchange as they'll try to steal whatever they can anyway (0.0005+ btc transaction fees are quite unreasonable). If you can't work out a good currency to covert to, I normally use litecoin for low fees and high acceptance/liquidity from other exchanges.
Since OP didn't explain how he was going to convert crypto to fiat, it's hard to say whether converting his TRX to a coin with a lower withdrawal fee would have helped him, but I certainly see your point.  We'd kind of have to know which exchange he was using to withdraw fiat and whether a LTC-->fiat conversion is possible on it.
I would assume that his local exchange/custodial wallet only supports BTC to their country's fiat currency conversion. That was also the same case with us a few years ago until other cryptocurrencies with cheaper tx fees such as XRP were added.

I'm not sure on the security standards, and you need tor, but there's also bisq which mightve been a better option for op.

I've used it before for the same thing and I think I remember the system acting like a wallet so you can withdraw funds and set your own fee - I think the limit on altcoins was high as I converted over 20 ltc to ~0.1btc (but this is just how I've remembered it and don't really want to go back to installing tor).
