Welcome back!!  How's Chris?
1922  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is the incentive to collect transactions? on: October 05, 2012, 10:17:09 PM
Holy shit I was so confused when reading this... I didn't look at the date to start with and was like total WTF.

But to answer your question: What is the incentive to do so?  To destroy bitcoin?  There are easier, quicker, cheaper ways to do that... The threat of a state or powerful actor going through the trouble and expense to wreck bitcoin in that manner is pretty remote, because it's exceptionally inefficient once the ASICs are in the wild and network hashing power is measured in hundreds of TH, not just 10 or 20.

The web page needs more frequent updating... but someone who shall remain nameless and is likely to read this likes Wordpress and I find it an incredible chore to navigate/work with/find anything in it, so I tend to put it off.  I will try to make a concerted effort to go through the whole thing and get it updated to the current status.
1924  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are the chances Bfl. Basic. Avalon. Etc use the same gear? on: October 05, 2012, 10:04:06 PM
Well, I guess that depends on what your definition of "all" is ... But for the commonly accepted definition of 100% original IP, I would say yes.

Gah!!!

I broke it again... haha s%@#$@#t... I will have it fixed by the time you read this.
1926  Economy / Goods / Re: any old hardcore kids on: October 05, 2012, 08:17:50 PM
Violent Femmes are total win.  Hell yeah Ramones, Talking Heads, Sex Pistols... ahh the memories.  When I think of old, I think of crap from the early 70's, rainbows and bell bottoms.

I might be able to buy into some 80's stuff being old, but ouch!  Our house... is in the middle of the street.
1927  Economy / Goods / Re: any old hardcore kids on: October 05, 2012, 08:07:51 PM
You say "old" and then say circa 1997 - 2000. 2000 != old

Huh... or maybe I'm just old.  WTH  Oh well...
1928  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are the chances Bfl. Basic. Avalon. Etc use the same gear? on: October 05, 2012, 08:07:03 PM
Yes, 100%

Still?  It should have been fixed yesterday.

I broke it more yesterday, doh!  It should really be fixed now.  Let me know if it's not.

1932  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are the chances Bfl. Basic. Avalon. Etc use the same gear? on: October 05, 2012, 06:36:51 PM
The probability is exactly zero that anyone but BFL is using our chips, since ours are 100% original proprietary IP.

Err... power?  You are missing power... lots of power.

They are disclosed (cut and paste from the Dwolla payout page):

Quote
We offer the ability to send you a payment either as BTC or as Dwolla. You have elected to use Dwolla. Please note that we are not a money exchange service. Any payments made are for services rendered, in this case it is computing resources. We do not have the ability or provisions to accept BTC transferred to us and have no intentions of ever offering this service. While our Dwolla USD rate is based off of the MtGox BTC rate, that is only for calculation of appropriate payment for the amount of work contributed.

Our current Dwolla facilitator fee is 2.5% and it is computed by taking the last BTC sale on the Exchanges OR the daily average BTC rate, whichever is lower.

The amount paid will be slightly different than what you see below depending on the exchange rate at the time you submit your payout and does not include the 2.5% facilitator fee charged through Dwolla.

Minimum Payout is .02 BTC of value.

Approximate DWUSD Payout:

Regular Dwolla payouts do not cost any additional fees and can potentially take 3 - 5 business days to process. We also offer a service called Dwolla Instant, where you are paid instantly for an additional 2% fee.
1935  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Handle much larger MH/s rigs : simply increase the nonce size on: October 05, 2012, 05:55:11 PM
The BFL units have made provisions for a larger nonce range in our firmware already, so if/when this happens we should be able to accommodate it without any problems.  The rate we chew threw the nonce has already caused some concern internally, so it's been a design feature almost from the beginning.  Personally, I would like to just see a 64 bit field for the nonce, that would give us a lot of expansion room and it would take a truly monster machine to chew through that in a reasonable time frame.  I don't see monster machines like that happening anytime soon.

Maaku: The nonce range and difficulty are two entirely separate issues.  One is a problem for the hardware one is a problem for the software.  Both need to be addressed (and the software side has been addressed with variable difficulty and GBT/Stratum) - but the hardware issue still remains as Kano has outlined and I think his proposals are the best long term solution so far, everything else is just a hack that is prone to problems and also being overrun as hardware becomes faster.

Mmm. Oklahoma Joe's is the best.

We use GBT, which doesn't require any funky proxies or anything on your end now.  It just works magically behind the scenes if you're using BFGminer 2.8.0 or later.
