If there's no mining in NXT, how exactly did the coins get distributed? Someone mentioned that people bought them initially. So the developer made BTC off of selling his premined coins? At least ripple gave some away for free... Initial IPO of NXT was only 21 BTC. PoS must be initially distributed- it lies in its nature. The way BC did it was very smart : Proof of Work. There's nothing shady with these. Just a lot of misunderstanding usually. So how many people exactly received NXT in this initial IPO? probably just the dev and a close circle of his friends. This BlackCoin thing doesn't seem much better either. How long did the mining period last for? Probably only a few people got their hands on them before mining ended, which is weird as the coin is like 2 weeks old. LiteCoin has a better distribution than both of these, and people can still mine them with GPUs. As far as I can tell, this BlackCoin only has pump-and-dump potential at the very most.

None of the alts go up long-term except for LTC. Sure some of the early ones like NVC and NMC did, but that's only because they're on btc-e. Auroracoin is going nowhere except down from here.

I keep hearing people saying that this coin has a decentralized exchange. Why are people trying to get it on the major exchanges then? Also, aren't most of the coins in the hands of the initial investors? So one would have to purchase this at a really inflated rate to get their hands on some coin?

A new coin would need infrastructure and adoption in order to overtake Bitcoin. Bitcoin has set the standard for cryptos, much like Apple or Paypal/Ebay have in their respective fields.

Auroracoin is all talk but no substance. How are they supposedly going to airdrop coins to every single citizen? The manpower and coordination that would be involved in such an endeavor would be massive, and impossible without government intervention. Judging by that article, it would seem more likely that AUR gets banned by Iceland than the airdrop actually happening.

Bytecoin.biz is the one that Maria released and is an exact replica of BTC with a different name. I don't see this one going anywhere, simply because of the confusion with the other bytecoins

At least this time the theft doesn't affect BTC

As far as I know there is no way at the moment. Some people may be fine with seeing the unconfirmed payment just going through, but most will want at least 1 confirmation. Some people have suggested that this could be mitigated in the future by using 'trusted' addresses or payment gateways.
Edit: Litecoinguy is correct. With small transactions there's not really much risk involved.

Honestly, I don't think Wikipedia accepting bitcoin donations is going to make much of a difference in the grand scheme of mainstream adoption. They're the main ones who stand to benefit from adopting BTC.

At this point GPUs are still very much in the game when factoring in the price and mining speed of Scrypt ASICs. Maybe someone will come up with another crypto that uses a different algorithm. Or maybe we'll see a lot of cheap GFX cards on craigslist soon Either way I think the direction that Scrypt mining is headed in is good because a lot of electricity is being saved. GridSeed miners only use 7W per module when mining Scrypt. Who knows, maybe Scrypt ASICs will become more popular with consumers than SHA ASICs.

What exactly is BC? So many altcoins around now that it's impossible to keep track. I gave up on most alts after dumping my BBQ coins.
Didn't give it up completely though did you... Why give it up when it can help my BTC stash grow?

Is this the same ByteCoin that was announced by Maria?
Also, the website uses BTE and you're using BCN...

What sets this BlackCoin apart from the next CloneCoin pump-and-dump?

Gotta love the BS stories some of these devs come up with to rob their own community.
Seems to be a trend.
Baritus a self proclaimed crypto-security guru god second only to Realsolid in his granduer can't secure his wallet.
Sure buddy....sure.
~BCX~
Lol, it's like you can't even go by a few days without hearing one of these stories. Oh, the drama...

I would do some serious research on most of the coins that people suggest, as you may find that they're nothing but glorified pump-and-dumps. I haven't seen a single coin that is superior to BTC yet.

At this point, I see less than 5 promising coins to invest in

Why not create a paper wallet using the offline method and then send and coins you get to that address. They'd be safe from hacking that way. Also, you seriously need to get your computer looked at if you're getting hacked that frequently.
