1961  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 6 Red Lighting on: February 24, 2016, 05:11:40 PM
Thanks for the reply I managed to get everything back up and going again not long after posting the call for help but I appreciate the help regardless even though I sold not hours after restoring functionality.

Maybe mine was a "runt" or just a slightly less than average performer but if I didn't hit 11.9v. or higher on the GUI the damned thing wouldn't even come close to advertised speeds in fact at 11.5 and 11.6 I would routinely be averaging 2700GH/s that's way shy of what I was expecting.

Bought on ebay for 700 sold on ebay 690 maybe I got a "dud" but I found it to be far too high maintenance for my style.

If it's only getting 2.7T... you would have been better off going against who you bought from vs selling.  If someone receives a miner like that under paypal there is a HUGE  chance it's going to be returned.

Did you warn in auction it was getting 2.7T speed?  I wonder with red and speed.... if you possibly bought from someone who overvolted it and killed 1/2 the hashing.
1962  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 in a hot Texas garage? on: February 24, 2016, 05:00:43 PM
So I'm noticing the prices of the S3s and S5s dropping significantly.  I have 2 S3s and was thinking about adding an S5, but I have a few questions.

1. The S5 is as loud as a small vacuum, correct?

2. I live in Texas where it's easily 100-105F every day from June-Sept/Oct and never drops below 80F at night during the summer.  I would want to put the S5 in the garage, which gets even hotter.  Would this be ok or would the S5 not be able to operate at such temps??

The S5 is hot and loud.   Might look and see if you can find a DB rating, but "small vacuum" is hard to quantify that into a number.

Would I mine in 100F .... no I think heat is going to be a pain unless you have some really good cooling.   Add a few S5's to a area that is already 100+ F ... .you are getting very hot.

If the area is well aerated or open-ish, he might be able to get away with it by adding a second fan, and maybe he could also try to use box fans to blow air through transversely. Its hard to tell what will really do it, considering how the heatsink just throw air everywhere.

The print modded enclosure would probably also do it. If not, underclock.. but that would kinda suck. But if all else fail, its a good failsafe.

If your cool air you bring in with fans is 100F + .... its going to be hard.  A lot are right about under clock and lots of air.  But still sounds expensive to cool down and your getting under clocked rates.

Most likely going to a hosting center would make more sense.   If I was dealing with 100F+ I know I would be looking for hosting center and run gear not under clocked.
1963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Examples and pictures of <100$ mining rigs on: February 24, 2016, 04:55:40 PM
you can found the sticks from 25$ in USA or 50€ in Europe Sad, the hash rate is 8+Ghs to arround 15Ghs

I live in Spain and all the mining hardware here is more expensive than in other countries  Cry
I know sire, I'm from Spain too Smiley
The best way to get cheap hardware?

EU is going to be hard on getting cheap hardware.... due to VAT it will always be more expensive.  Just the way it is.

As far as cheapest normally forum on this site is.  Just be careful as you might need escrow on some deals within it.
1964  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 24, 2016, 04:45:42 PM

I don't think anyone has made a fake U3 that I know of.  If someone knocked it off that would be new.  The thing I don't understand is if the "Virtual" part of the auction as long as they are shipping you a U3 you should be good.   But other language + virtual needs someone else besides me to look at it.

Also before U3 read about zombies, and good methods to control them or it's going to be a pain.
1965  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and the Halving on: February 24, 2016, 04:40:58 PM
new asic will emerge the diff will keep climbing, maybe a minor slowdown initially, but in the end the diff always climb, just the the charts

weaker miner(in terms of electricity) will stop mining, and stronger miners, will add more hash

The happened before during the last mining. As long as the miners add more efficient miners, the difficulty will rise.

the diff always increase, you need to look at the whole picture, right now the diff follow the price and the price always increase by average each year, or by absolute average since bitcoin was created

teh same for the diff, it is always increase by average each year

I think the efficiency of the ASIC will reach peak this or next year. The miners will compete with the cheap electricity.

I don't think it will peak.... if it does that is not good.  That would mean companies are not investing in R/D which would mean profits for big companies don't look great.  Which means us little guy's even worse.

I feel we will continue to see improvements in gear 14nm heck it's a game changer and were pretty close to seeing it I think... bw has one being sold right now but higher specs then fined tuned one they talked about on site.   So gear is only going to get better.

Price a slight positive going at 423 right now and heading up.
1967  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is there any profit? on: February 24, 2016, 04:33:06 PM
Where do you get those prices from!?? In the EU an s3 used costs something like 300usd!!!

Lutzov: I ser the point of course. Profits trend to get lower. And comprensive about that.
I start to understand that, this is a question of strategy, balancing with care the costs and winnings.

EU Vat's kill almost any deal on mining gear.  Just so high it adds to prices and makes your miners higher.  There are some that lie on VAT... but personally fraud is not something I would go for.

You are better off with a hosting center.  I will be cheaper than you electricity you pay, and also can find one with no/cheap vat.  So gear is cheaper and makes a huge difference all the way around.

Same, it totally disappeared. I don't even know the correct number of posts I've made :-/

Same here. I dint realize today was the payment day and did not even count my posts. Now the bot is reset.

Same mine reset went to new counter but no payment was sent  for last week that was reset.
1969  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 0$ Power cost --> Antminer u1 miner rig profitable? on: February 24, 2016, 03:27:52 AM
Before you go buy or if you have already, the U1 and the U2 mine at basically the same speed. No difference in hashrate generally except for the fact that the U2 has a heatsink. U1s are generally cheaper and will perform at the same hashrate. Only big difference is U1 uses the 55nm BM1380, U2 uses the 28nm BM1382. Both are outdated chips, and even with free electricity the gain from them is miniscule.
The cooling on the U1 is terrible. The metal "heatsink" does almost nothing, and you're better off cutting it out and applying thermal paste and drilling a hole in for a homemade cutout heatsink.

With prices though buying neither makes sense compared to buying compac.  It at least get's you the most for your money.  And if you plan to run it ... yes it's a lotto or learning rig.  Your better off spending and buying BTC vs these mini rigs.  But that is not much fun.

I don't see neither U1 or U2 really making much sense, unless you happen to already have them.

Ready… thank you all so much for your help…. it worked!

Glad it worked! I like looking via router myself.

And some scanning programs are great others suck and are dangerous if you don't know what your doing.  If you set wrong address range... you might just be hitting someone over the web which is no good.
1973  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Profitablity of mining (cloud or rig) virtually zero on: February 23, 2016, 05:14:49 PM
big farm make money because there is no roi needed for them all their equipment minus the last one have roi'ed already

think about this, when you have 1k asic that roi'ed already you can other 10 and those 10 will roi in no time thanks to the first 1k, and so on

that's the trick that big farm are doing, they can add hash like nothing and roi in a few day, regardless of the actual roi time for that HW

I think for big farmer, when they invest in new miners, they will also consider if it is profitable to mine with that miner.

Yes I'm sure they do ROI math and check profitability.  But Amph is right about the "big farm" having a huge advantage.  They first get a discount when ordering in huge bulk what price we don't really know....  but if you order thousands of miners you get discounts.  And then consider electricity price.

A lot of these big farms biggest factor is electricity price.  If you pay only a few cent's it's honestly hard to get loss.   It could happen but if you pay a few cent's you likely have quite a while of S7, or A6's bringing in good profits.
1974  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Online Bitcoin Wallet on: February 23, 2016, 05:11:14 PM
Well it seems blockchain.info is the majority's choice as an online bitcoin wallet, personally I would not suggest it to you since I got a lot issue with the that made skeptical to it, it was eventually resolved though, but I decided to switch on electrum. Anyways based on what you demand blockchain.info will fit on you, but don't prefer lower fees than the required which is 0.0001 BTC, if you really want to save some fees, well you might consider trying coinbase as they don't charge any fee for sending bitcoins
seems yes blockchain is majority's choice because some people had comfortable using these wallet and i was already know that some people also have bad experience during use blockchain but as long i do not have any issue regarding my wallet i think it's enough for me

And everyone using it should use 2 factor.  I have tried stressing how important this is.  I think one day almost all will have 2 factor on most sites.  Just so much more secure.

With 2 factor a bad guy has your password... they cannot log in without 2nd factor.  So HUGE deal with that and could have saved some on losing coins.
1975  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 Refusing Connection on: February 23, 2016, 05:03:56 PM
you are not going to like this but here goes it won't work for you unless you find it address.

so this one won't let you steal from the uni.

All I need to do is get into the configuration file and I can make it work. How can I find it's IP when plugged directly into my computer?

Normally you would need to set up connection sharing.  Just plugging in a miner to computer I doubt set's up connection sharing automatically (unless it comes up with a set-up as you did it).

Have you tried going direct into router?   Normally that is best connection as you don't need a computer on to connect.  Long term a computer is a high priced way to get network connection.
1976  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and the Halving on: February 23, 2016, 04:47:33 PM
From january 13 we almost haved due to difficulty:

Feb 19 2016    163,491,654,909    13.44%    1,170,318,852 GH/s
Feb 07 2016    144,116,447,847    20.06%    1,031,625,717 GH/s
Jan 26 2016    120,033,340,651    5.89%    859,232,121 GH/s
Jan 13 2016    113,354,299,801    9.12%    811,421,684 GH/s

Were talking like 48 percent chance since Jan 13.   I am not sure having will have as big as change as I thought it would.  At least not at first.   I predict more slow upwards (hopefullly).  But there is no way to say for sure.  Also having is known it is not sneaking up on us so investors should know about it before and base investments knowing it's coming.
1977  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 19 to Mar 3? picks are closed setup time.. prize = 0.2 btc on: February 23, 2016, 04:44:05 PM
Well another quiet Day -11.81% 127 Blocks. Today at the moment looks to be similar, run rate for the Period now at -6.28% and Picks should open in about 14 Hours. So the big question is are we going to continue like this or will someone start piling on the Hash?

yes what we know is the network can do over  1,250 ph as it was doing it for days on end from  jan 22 to feb 14
so we start picking in 51 blocks.

This does make picks very hard since 100 to 125ph are on the sidelines.

No one knows if a big farm in China was busted stealing power. (we can all hope this is the case)

I want to say keep your eyes peeled for any info on the twitter-reddit- anywhere to confirm if a Chinese farm did get caught.
Oh coins went down to 420 usd this morning.

The coins going down is not fun.   But was nice to see the 440 area again even if just a while.  Bitwisdom looks even lower now:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    163,491,654,909
Estimated Next Difficulty:    164,747,179,820 (+0.77%)

I just don't know what to think.  We had crazy high numbers out of no where.   Now were getting more in line with what "normal" was.  So will be interesting to see where we end up.
1978  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 19 to Mar 3? picks are closed setup time.. prize = 0.2 btc on: February 22, 2016, 11:06:53 PM
Whatever is going on it sure is weird, I wish there was a way to definitively know instead of having to guess.  Price is strong right now, over $437 as I type, and difficulty is leveling off for this period anyway.  I would really like to see it stay level for the next few months, I'm hoping the big hardware push is done.  There's a point where there won't be enough time left to the halving for even the $0.01 kw-h power people can't ROI new gear, so it should settle down at some point.

Well my theory is that there was a big push to get stuff mining before the Holiday and now with the BW 14nm Miner being deployed and the Bifury announcements people will be holding back on further 28nm purchases, putting us into a slight lull waiting for full availability of new miners?

Rich

good as any other guess.

although I prefer a 50 to 100 ph group of farms in China were busted for power theft.  This would be very helpful to hash rate for a few jumps.

The only thing is that BW miner is quite different then the specs they released on miner long ago.  So they must be able to produce it pretty cheap if they launched a lot of them.

I'm not sure on chip design but they have a way's till they reach specs.   Not sure if that is good or bad long term.  They do seem to be first one to sell 14NM though at least one reseller had hands on a few from BW.  I have not seen any others sell a 14nm outside of company.

I think that the point is that all the noise from Bitfury and the actual existence of the BW Miner signals that 14nm is here / very close, so who is going to be buying a 28nm miner at the moment?

Rich

I would agree on the signals that 14nm is getting better and eventually will hit specs and knock all 28nm out at normal mining.  There are those super cheap or free miners though that will be super lucky and 28 NM still great.

If you had 1-2 cent electricity even after 14NM I suspect a S7 would still be a great miner.  I predict Bitmain keeps making S7's for foreseeable future likely as internal electricity is so low and cost to make is lowest it will be.  So they still have some big profits left on 28NM.

But for normal electricity you right when you look at specs (once the 14nm hits them) it is a game changer on electricity usage.
1979  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC halving on: February 22, 2016, 09:09:44 PM
The bitcoin ecosystem is too unstable to hold up a price double after the halving. If it does, I'm out. All of my 21 BTC will be withdrawn. There will be a drop. It's understandable for bitcoin to go up to $600 max, but $800 is to high for the community to keep up.

Speculation this far away from having is just to hard.  Likely investing if it happens will happen before and not one huge jump.   We know having is happening so it's not going to sneak up on miners/btc holders.

But as far as price it is way to hard know what it will be.  There are just to many variables to accurately predict having price currently, or I think so at least.
1980  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I have some questions about mining on: February 22, 2016, 08:59:37 PM
I'm thinking about starting mining,
and I think about using  a vps. I would love if some one who have already tried it help me a bit
the idea is to buy like 3 or more vpss and install miner in them !! would that be profitable regarding there cost?
any stats?

I started mining and I'm looking at a screen that's calculating , I hit start and in just watching it .
What do I do next , what do I expect to do after a while .

Nothing. The miner output is processed and submitted to the pool youre mining to. Your shares are calculated by the pool which will share the earnings with you. But if you're not mining on specialized hardware strictly for Bitcoin mining, you will not earn one cent.

You just let Cgminer run forever. Until its not longer profitable for you to do so i suppose.

It would not be cgminer with VPS's.   Most likely it's cpuminer you run, but Virosa is right it just is not worth it.  VPS's even if very expensive chances are can make more doing other things than mining CPU coins.

The day's of CPU mining are just over.   Might you make a little if "free" .... yes but were talking about very small amounts.  Not enough to interest most people.  VPS mining did not last very long.... it was a really fun type of mining but did not last long at all.
