1961  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What should power limit be on a mining equipment in your country? on: June 24, 2013, 03:47:27 PM
What should power limit be on a mining equipment in your country?
Please name the country and list Volts/Amps

In USA many people are limited to 120V/15A while you can get 20A circuits in some places.

Decision is ether to make miner fit into 120V/15A or 120V/20A and then if mined is rated for 15A you don't use 5A on 20A circuit or if miner rated for 20A you have to set it to lower performance on 15A circuit and loose 25% performance. Which one is better?
Obviously miner can use multiple 15A circuits to get better density.
How will your asic use 1800(!)watts? Also, if you're serious, you could hook up mining units to 240v outlets (the ones used for dryers).

[...]
By the way it's the Amps that kill you, not the Volts, America got it wrong, crony capitalism won out over science fact!  Wink
Or maybe, don't fucking touch the outlet?

Are there any AGP cards that will get me 200+ MH/s?
Don't bother. With ASICs coming online and abysmal MH/$ of low end cards, you will never make ROI.

"Vapor-X" has custom cooling, so you can theoretically get better OC. It also looks like the "Vapor-X" version is factory overclocked.

Also like to get 0.01 BTC.

no, because the previous thread had too many users that wouldn't respond to offers.
1969  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hosting Blockchain on the Cloud on: June 24, 2013, 01:45:18 AM
that's not the blockchain, it's only the genesis block.

Incorrect.  bootstrap.dat is several gigabytes in size, and comprises the vast majority of today's blockchain.

Thanks for the correction, always appreciated. Smiley
1970  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Limit to active connections on Bitcoin-Qt on: June 24, 2013, 01:00:26 AM
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin
by default, it's 125 connections. Your client will make 8 outgoing connections and accept up to (125-8) incoming connections. Those take a while to accumulate, so you need to leave your computer on for a while.

It would be nice to see the number of incoming as well. It normally just shows "8".
just assume incoming is (total - 8).

1973  Economy / Goods / Avalon Batch #3. 3 Module, PSU included [Shipping next monday!] on: June 23, 2013, 11:30:27 PM
I'm looking to sell my Avalon batch #3 preorder. It has 3 modules (63 GH/s stock, 77+ GH/s OC stable) and PSU is included. Order number is 70xx which places it in the middle of the order queue. Escrow mandatory. Coins do not need to be pay upfront, but I do require a deposit (with the escrow) to prevent trolling. In the case of cancellation, the canceling party's deposit is forfeited to the other. Batch 3 is shipping next Monday!

Why am I selling? My DSL connection is not exactly reliable. I suffer from frequent disconnects. See my line stats. Repairs will be costly because the fault is within my property. This ASIC can be put to better use if someone with a reliable connection is mining with it.

Asking price: 105 95BTC + shipping. I will consider offers below asking, but minimum price is 80 BTC. Anything lower, I'm better off getting a refund. Keep in mind this is not an auction, so don't place "bids". If you want to buy or make an offer, send me a PM.

ROI/difficulty speculators, please post in mining speculation instead of this thread.
1974  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Using Bitcoin Block Hashes For Random Numbers on: June 23, 2013, 10:41:51 PM
What's the reason behind the bias to lower numbers with a block hash?
For the block to be accepted, the block hash has to lower than a certain number (varies by difficulty). That is the principle behind mining. If you check the previous block hashes on blockexplorer, you will see all blocks have plenty of leading zeros.
1975  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Using Bitcoin Block Hashes For Random Numbers on: June 23, 2013, 10:34:42 PM
You might want to take the hash of the block and concatenate it with some arbitrary string, then hash it once more to get more randomness. A block hash alone has a bias towards lower numbers.
1976  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon batch #3 approaching "NO ROI" point on: June 23, 2013, 09:49:31 PM
If Avalon Batch3 is approaching "NO ROI" you would think folks would opt for the refund that Yifu is offering.
So far as I know, NO ONE has taken him up on this offer (maybe B1-er anti76... but it doesn't look like it).
Please tell me more about the refund offer.

I just switched to Eligius and testing running if I get a better return I will be hashing away? I just don't understand why more people don't use Eligius?
because people like sticking to their old pools, even if it means paying fees.

what could possibly go wrong?

Plus, I like how your user name doesn't match your ebay user name, nor does it match your domain. Also, ebay profile says you're from united states, but "your" blog says you're in Bangkok.

Is there a guide to making 16x->1x powered risers?
you take your x1 riser, then you saw off the end.
