1981  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Page AntMiner on: February 22, 2016, 08:54:46 PM

It is an S7.

If you connect to your router do you see it on list of connected devices?   Should be able to go down list tying IP's and one  of them should be it... with it hashing it should be up and running fine.

How did you set it up on pools to hash?  I'm guessing you connected to it before.
1982  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 0$ Power cost --> Antminer u1 miner rig profitable? on: February 22, 2016, 08:49:54 PM
You will not ROI on these stick miners.  They cost more then they will bring in it's for leanring and lotto mining at this point on usb stick miners.  If you have free power I suggest looking at bigger rigs.

As far as if you do want to do a stick miner for fun.  Get a RPI and a compac, the compac is much better. Again it is not going to ROI unless you make more by selling it.  But you can use it for learning and lotto.
1983  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how will 'micro miners' like 21 chips and bitfury lightbulbs work? on: February 22, 2016, 08:46:36 PM
More than I thought actually. I didn't think they were mining at all. What I meant by chip manufacturer wasn't one of the ASIC guys, it was Qualcomm now I've looked it up. They must have something up their sleeve to have attracted such a pile of cash but I guess we'll see along the way.

They claimed to have many things up their sleeves.  But they only have done 2 things we know of.  Make gear internally and release a very small RPI miner.

For all their talk about putting it in everyday items... it never really happened.  Biggest focus by far was internal miners.   If they change from this?  No one can really say.
1984  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 19 to Mar 3? picks are closed setup time.. prize = 0.2 btc on: February 22, 2016, 08:43:24 PM
Whatever is going on it sure is weird, I wish there was a way to definitively know instead of having to guess.  Price is strong right now, over $437 as I type, and difficulty is leveling off for this period anyway.  I would really like to see it stay level for the next few months, I'm hoping the big hardware push is done.  There's a point where there won't be enough time left to the halving for even the $0.01 kw-h power people can't ROI new gear, so it should settle down at some point.

Well my theory is that there was a big push to get stuff mining before the Holiday and now with the BW 14nm Miner being deployed and the Bifury announcements people will be holding back on further 28nm purchases, putting us into a slight lull waiting for full availability of new miners?

Rich

good as any other guess.

although I prefer a 50 to 100 ph group of farms in China were busted for power theft.  This would be very helpful to hash rate for a few jumps.

The only thing is that BW miner is quite different then the specs they released on miner long ago.  So they must be able to produce it pretty cheap if they launched a lot of them.

I'm not sure on chip design but they have a way's till they reach specs.   Not sure if that is good or bad long term.  They do seem to be first one to sell 14NM though at least one reseller had hands on a few from BW.  I have not seen any others sell a 14nm outside of company.
1985  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Online Bitcoin Wallet on: February 21, 2016, 08:38:47 PM
I am using blockchain.info and xapo.
Xapo has no fees.
But before used coinbase.

i agree. Blockchain is the best online wallet. Cheers!
Blockchain was a good wallet earlier but now people prefer coinbase a lot as blockchain is down most times which delays transactions by 1-2 days. Signature campaigns also don't use it as often as they used it before. With regards to fee also, xapo and coinbase are preferred.

I think blockchain is still bigger then Xapo on userbase.   It tends to be the most popular hot wallet.   I admit though Xapo is getting mentioned more and more I think due to use with faucets.

Coinbase I think some prefer do to the insurance policy the have.  But you give up having up the private key like on blockchain.  With Coinbase your 100 percent relying on them.  Say blockchain you have a private key if you want in advanced that can be put into another wallet and used if site was down.
1986  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how will 'micro miners' like 21 chips and bitfury lightbulbs work? on: February 21, 2016, 08:33:59 PM
I thought the 21 computer was only for development. No consumer is gonna lay out for something like that. Weren't they setting up some type of deal with one of the major chip manufacturers?

They are a private company not public so we really don't know a whole lot.  We do know they at least made some internally and slowly have grown less and less of the total hashrate.

Look at last 4 day's they are 2 percent of the total mined - https://blockchain.info/pools?timespan=4days .  So that is pretty small compare to some who reported to have new chips like BW and Bitfury... they are much more right now.

I'm not sure we will see much more out of them honestly.
1987  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Yesminer M20 / M10 on: February 21, 2016, 08:30:16 PM
please read entire thread. there is no company !!

its a one man job

look at the youtube videos - this was the most pathetic scam i ever seen. anybody who lost money on this deserved it.  the scammer didn't even show his hand in the video and no voice.  who spends thousands with a company who hasn't even proven the existence of a single person.

I could have programmed a PC to write this entire scam in code.

And this is reason from page 1 people warned about it and even more heavily in page 2.  If you are seeking money from them might backup videos 2 are already deleted on youtube.

The thing I found crazy watching video... no network cable plugged in yet LCD shows hashing.  People should have questioned the crap out of that and not invested.  You are right a LCD could easily be programmed to say that.  I honestly am surprised people bought  these.  It does appear to be scam from beginning not a failed venture... so that is going to make it even harder to get any money back.
1988  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Periodical Cleaning of Antminers on: February 21, 2016, 08:22:16 PM
Hi everyone,

Just a query I had recently regarding cleaning out the antminers (S3's in my case). Would the removal of dust etc bring down temps and improve the hashrate at all?

My hashrate seems to fall slightly over the course of a couple of weeks (2-3ghs) and wondered if this was a normal thing or due to something else.

Thanks.

If you are in a dusty area it depends on the miner on how easy it is.  But if it is a miner that people can easily open and is out of warranty yes if lots of dust I would open it and remove it.   I have noticed fan's can get a good amount.   You can also make it better by cleaning off the fan's and get the dust off of them.  When I sell a miner I try to clean it to normally.

I don't know why but I never opened my SP20's just never seemed like they opened as much as a lot of others.  With them I used air you can push a good amount out with air.  It's not as good as opening a S3 and cleaning off the heatsinks and fan's.  But a little of air is better then nothing.

I don't think your hashrate decline is on a S3 is due to dust though.
1989  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why doesn't someone just design a miner, which will ROI and profit in a year? on: February 21, 2016, 08:17:36 PM
Why would you R&D something and then sell it for less money than it could earn if you just kept it yourself? It's no coincidence that mining hardware manufacturers choose the price point just above what the miner will earn in its useful lifetime. ASICminer were the first to sell to the public doing this and everyone else followed suit since it's such an ideal business model. Of course I've been warning people of this for years but people still don't see it...

Us donkey's like chasing the carrot.

Everryonce in a while we get a price war... have been vary few of them.  SP20 went at S5's prices and drove price down.   After selling SP claimed to lose money at the final price (not sure I believe it).  But there have been a few unique times.

But I agree sadly 3 month ROI's are dead.  It seems a lot of sellers base off lifetime earnings, just look at S7 how fast they can drop profit when difficulty changes.  This shows crazy profits on a lot of batches.  Or I think so at least.

What you say is already happening. All big mninig companies already are alread in some kind of 'war'.

Pretending to offer the lowest prices but in fact we know that all of them are just making profit from  us.

this is nothing new though it always has been companies at war for the best chip.  You have the best chip... you get the big buisness the huge data centers.  That is where the big money is at.

Home/hobby mining can provide profit's to but it's data centers that as a company you really want adaption.   And can't blame them for it.  Look from the beginning on asics there is always a push to a new better chip.  This will always happen as long as there is financial gain for it.  There are winners and losers.  And if you lose... it can be big we have fewer and fewer companies it seems to me.
1990  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how will 'micro miners' like 21 chips and bitfury lightbulbs work? on: February 21, 2016, 08:13:10 PM
I've seen talk of Bitfury lightbulbs and 21 chips embedded in our toasters and stuff to mine. I assume these guys know what they're talking about but I don't see how they can stand up to mining farms.

Does anyone know how this stuff could possibly work?

21 chips.... are really not like what I thought they would. They talk about having them in every day object's.  And what did they come out with?  A 400 dollar RPI... it was not really integrating into everyday object.  And price was made where most will not ever have a 21 chip RPI.

Bitfury lightlbulb is another story it was a prototype.  They said they would release it and get made but seems it never did happen, they put focus on bigger miners which I can't really blame them.  If they ever go back to it I still would love to have a mining lightbulb for 100 percent fun reasons.
1991  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Core Help on: February 21, 2016, 06:46:16 PM
Blockchain is a pain in the ass. For someone like me with 130 mbps internet, it takes FOREVER to sync. Even though syncing takes so long, it's all worth it because a hard wallet is the best way to keep bitcoin. Best security.

I have a significantly slower connection and sync (daily) under 5 minutes. I guess you either have a slow disk or CPU, probably both if it takes "forever".

I am lucky and I cannot figure out for the life of me why.  I live on a old family farm I should have slow internet, this place had satellite for a while.  For some reason the local city went to all the farms with fiber... yep they spent I don't know how many months laying fiber.

I am sitting on gigabit internet and very happy.  Only problem after getting that was getting a router that handled it.  Ended up with a Netgear Nighthawk and love my router now to.
1992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Who gets the miners fee? on: February 21, 2016, 06:43:02 PM

I do not understand why we have to pay for 4 cent per transaction tough, isn't that too much? Who decides the 0.0001 should be the optimal miners fee? How come I get lighting fast transaction if I pay 0.01 and I wait 2 days if I don't pay any?

On costing to much try to send money around the world.  I think bitcoin as far as fee's is going to be one of the cheapest.  Paypal, western union, etc all have substantially higher fee's.

I myself have not had a problem thinking fee's are to high.  Although if someone had a wallet full of dust it might seem like it.
1993  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Community Miner Design Discussion on: February 21, 2016, 06:27:28 PM
This thread gets better everytime I check it.  Great news from kilo and much like everyone else I'll be watching with much interest.

It really does seem pretty positive.  I was really surprised on Bitfury jumping on board.  I applaud them though for doing it.

Any way that get's me closer to that chip of theirs mining in my hobby mining area I see as positive.
1994  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Yesminer M20 / M10 on: February 21, 2016, 06:23:15 PM
My English is minimal and no relatives and acquaintances in germany.

That is the hard thing about these scam companies.  For those with just a little amount it's hard to do something.   I mean do you hire a international lawyer, and try to get compensation?  I doubt a lawyer working internationally would 3k worth his time and fee's.     The ones who ordered many yes a lawyer is something in the cards.

Sadly the past companies a lot of them ride into the sunset with customer's money.  It is just hard to go after them.   And some are scams from the beginning which this company appears to be... so I'm not sure how easy it will be to go after.

At this people should not pre-order with a new company.  Just has gone wrong way to many times.
1995  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: February 21, 2016, 06:14:16 PM
David,

To answer you question.  All 3 of my Batch 10 units and 7 of my partner's do not have the 6 FAN or 9 Hashboard connections.  They strip them off just like previous batch, although some units did include it in the past

It could be luck and they used up ones they had left with 9 connections.   I wonder internally if they use 9, it would make sense that internally they like 3 together.  That is pure speculation though.

I am surprised they stripped them I always thought they might have did it for a S7+ one day, just like they did on S5+.   But then the latest ones don't have 9.  So I'm not sure what to think.  Makes me think no S7+ in near future though or they would focus on 9 board versions.
1996  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Solar array starting to look good. on: February 21, 2016, 06:07:26 PM
Yes NJ has a performance incentive in place for solar and other non polluting energy technologies. It's about $250/mgh right now.

Residential roof mount solar systems are about $3/watt installed in NJ. And typically pay for themselves in about 6 years. Businesses get additional tax incentives and have about a 4 year pay back right now in NJ.

Core components using tier one generic product that is certified to high standards and come with substantial performance warranties:
Solar Panels (25yr warranty) ~$0.70/watt
Inverters (10 yr warranty)    ~$0.40/watt
Rack (5yr warranty)             ~$0.38/watt

Core components using top tier name branded product with highest standards and efficiencies:
Solar Panels (25yr warranty)  ~$1.18/watt
Inverters (20yr warranty)      ~$0.48/watt
Rack  (10yr warranty)           ~$0.45/watt

There are cheaper products available, but everything I use falls into those 2 categories because I only use products that have been tested and certified to very high standards and are compatible for connection with the public utility grid. These days panels with performance irregularities and esthetic defects can be purchased for ~$0.25/watt. I've also seen a few auctions for used high quality modules ~$0.38/watt. But the incentives in my area only apply to new product.

Thanks for putting together such a good list on price.  What do you calculate on time to ROI  on your setup?

It's super impressive just curious with you being a expert in the area what your time is till it's paid off from usage.
1997  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Online Bitcoin Wallet on: February 21, 2016, 02:39:31 PM
A lot use blockchain as a hot wallet it is very popular (I'm guessing most popular).   You can do things to secure it more I suggest looking at my hand's on with Yubikey and blockchain. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1353231.0

And no matter what make sure you treat it as a hot wallet.  As it is that so it should effect how you use it.

it's very nice hardware, iam interesting to buy 1
maybe next week i will buy yubikey, after i get payment from bitmixer signature campaign

I think you will love it especially if you use a good password manager that uses it to.   They are great tools to add 2nd factor.

There is a lot of models to choose from.  I was surprised I thought I would like full size best.  But I can leave the nano in my laptop and it barley sticks out.  And it's there when I need to use it so its very nice and cannot be triggered remotely.

password manager ?  Undecided
Im never have think about it, because i have bad experience with hacker, i lose my 2btc at bittrex and local changer >_<

Yubikey is not a password manager.  It can be used as second factor physical tokens that can be used for blockchain.info wallets.  If you don't know about second factor... read up.  Basically you need password and the other token.  So I physically have to press my Yubikey after entering my password.

If a hacker has my password does them zero good without my Yubikey which is a physical item they cannot trigger remotely.  You must press a yubikey to send a code it can not be done remotely via software.

If you used 2 factor it would have saved your BTC from someone with just your password.  Dont know much about bittrex and if it offers  it though.
1998  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC halving on: February 21, 2016, 02:34:21 PM
I remember when the first halving happened. I got drunk and forgot about it. BTC was the same price the next day. Cool

This it will not be like that dude. It's all because demand and adaption. If you take first halving's time. There was not big demand for bitcoin that time but now situation is different.

There is not that big of a difference.   Bitcoin's price is based on a open market.  Do I think they will switch price to double due to having... no not quickly.  Long term no one knows.

But it already is a free market on price your giving to much power to having.  Have you seen difficulty for miners go up? Does it mean less coins mined for normal miners (or at least coins hitting market quicker) ... yes and is it always directly reflected in price.... no.  So we have many things showing you are wrong.
1999  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Hands On]Yubikey - Help secure your digital assets - Including Blockchain.info on: February 21, 2016, 02:28:14 PM
i want to ask, can i save something at yubikey? like notepad or link site?
i have idea to create new blockchain wallet without email,
like this https://blockchain.info/wallet/678a3341-c9df-452e-9cef-dde026fd1bc5 (password trialtrialtrial)

can i do it ?

I am using it in a mix with Lastpass as I really like it as a password manager.  With lastpass you get a "vault" where you can store notes even.

So I have lastpass with storage of info and security of needing my master password, and my Yubikey.  And my Yubikey you must touch to send a code cannot be done remotely.  So it is pretty good for storage in my use.

http://lifehacker.com/lastpass-hacked-time-to-change-your-master-password-1711463571
https://blog.lastpass.com/2015/06/lastpass-security-notice.html/

are you sure with password manager ?  Undecided

That article is quite dated look at date, nothing new.    But yes I feel secure as I use 2 factor.

And with Yubikey the great thing is even if they have masterpass does them 0 good.  They need the Yubikey.   So the 2 factor saves you once again.  If you use a password manager use 2 factor.  And I still highly suggest Yubikey.

So those with Yubikey's were in no risk essentially with the 2 factor on lastpass even then.

China is on the lead. Watch Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E67XXXhZgY
Or search yourself on google and or youtube.
They have such massive power, you'll easily get drowned with your two asic's.
The transition from homemade coins to huge investment driven companies/ventures is already past.

That is a good video been a while since I have seen it.  But the sound I would not consider it so secrative, that has to be able to be heard from outside.

One of my favorite threads about a mine is HAO's.  It is a great read - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1072474.0 .  They use hydro electricity and have a heck of a operation.  You can really see some of the day to day it feels like through that thread it is long but it is worth reading if you have the time.
