1981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [GBYTE] Byteball Speculation on: July 09, 2017, 01:03:10 PM
the dump was very interesting today. it seems like everyone had their watches set on a couple of hours before the distribution to dump.

what do we think here?
i am waiting for a bottom to pick some additional bytes for HODLing. don't know where the bottom is for now though.
1982  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum and 1st of August. on: July 09, 2017, 12:38:07 PM
QR code is just a bunch of dots on a square, it is not necessarily your private key. think of QR as barcode but instead of 1 dimension it has 2.

make sure you are using the QR code of your "private key" not QR code of your public key, or bitcoin address or anything else if you want to back up. for example in bitaddress.org the QR code on the left is your bitcoin address in base58 and the QR on the right is the private key.

p.s. private key starts with 5 or L or K

Thank you so much Smiley

QR in electrum starts with 1 so that is only public key.?

Would you know how to get private key from electrum ?
I'm worried to send BTC to some random generator :/

if it starts with 1 then it most probably is your bitcoin address like the one you see in my profile for example.

and i've read the previous comments and it seems like your wallet is old so that must be the reason you don't see the private key option when you right click on an address like this:

you can also do this:

but and as someone else already mentioned, you just need the seed. your seed is your private keys.
IF you have not imported any keys in your current wallet then all the private keys that you are seeing right now can be easily derived from that seed. that is how deterministic (or HD) wallets work.

good luck.
1983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why is altcoin under rated? on: July 09, 2017, 12:27:11 PM
why people don't invest in altcoin? Why is it so under rated?

"people" are two groups.
those who are aware of existence of bitcoin and those who aren't.

anybody who doesn't know what bitcoin is obviously don't even know what the hell an altcoin is. so they will never invest in either of them.

but those who know about bitcoin. will at some point find out about altcoins too. and some of them who are interested in trading will buy them. others who are not willing to take the risks associated with trading will never "invest in altcoins" because it means loss for most people without experience.

1985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I invested in NAV coin but drop a litle bit should I keep my investment? on: July 08, 2017, 11:11:04 AM
Hi . I wwhant to ask if is good that I invest my money in Nav coin. Sincerlly Im relatively new here. I know I need to make my own homework .... I research about it but I dont know yet if is  good or bad investment. So I whant to ask what you think about this coin and tehnology ? thank

i won't tell you if it is a good investment and whether to keep it now or sell it.
all i can tell you is that when you make an investment at some price and that investment fails you need to sell at the early stages before that fail turns into catastrophe.

so think to yourself, how much have you lost so far (percentage-wise) and how much loss would you like to tolerate. if the loss is more than your tolerance then sell. if not hold.
and if you decided to sell, then only buy back if you thought price has reached the bottom and only if you think it will rise.
1986  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Know a .00000001 minimum btc trading exchange? on: July 08, 2017, 10:52:36 AM
these are the limits i have in the list of my exchanges that i use (numbers are satoshi):
bitfinex: 1,000,000 (0.01BTC)
bittrex: 50,000
c-cex: 10,000
NovaExchange: 10,000
BleuTrade: 1,000
Cryptopia: 500

also i believe btc-e is also 10,000 and the 0.01BTC limit is only for their metaTrader not their Api regarding their main platform.

p.s i have never seen anything lower than 500 satoshi and there is no point for it either.
1987  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: WHY IS IT THE GOOD TIME TO INVEST IN RIPPLE (XRP) NOW? on: July 08, 2017, 10:45:10 AM
Is this still worth investing in? I would get in for a little.. not so much. Price seems reasonable for a first time investor in this world.
It's already #3 in market cap, so unless you think it will overtake BTC & ETH, idk..

ripple has always been in the top 5 or worst days top 10 altcoin in marketcap ranking system even when the price was 800 satoshi and lower.
and it has always been a useless altcoin.

what you don't realize is that ripple and coins like ethereum are only up there because they have a very huge supply. so it really doesn't matter if ripple is worth 10 satoshi or 10000 satoshi, it will still be up there because they will release a couple of billion coins if it drops down lower to keep it up.

but that doesn't make it a good investment...
1988  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What are some "must have" trading tools? on: July 08, 2017, 10:36:22 AM
there are not "must have" tools for trading in my opinion. if you are good at it, you can make profit even with your bare hands and at the same time all these tools won't change a thing if you have no idea what you are doing in this market Cool

but of course any kind of help that you can get from bots, alerts, automations, stop losses, ... is good as long as it is free and helpful.
1989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Peaks and Troughs on: July 08, 2017, 10:28:42 AM
Is Ethereum now a joke network in the forum? There are many negative comments about it now that it was uncovered that it cannot scale. But what about the hard fork to POS and sharding? Both will be ready by the end of the year if I believe.

switch to POS is a hard fork which may cause another split in ethereum chain and make another one! because the miners who are currently receiving a nice big reward and are mostly GPU miners are not happy about this change at all because it will be the end of their revenue.

whether it will solve its scaling issues, i am not sure. haven't checked it much and there aren't enough information on it either. most people even call it a useless solution.
1990  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to have fast execution trading platform ? on: July 07, 2017, 11:33:49 AM
whatever you do, you need to connect to these exchanges servers. bittrex, poloniex or anything else. and if these servers are lagging then there is nothing you can do about it, you have to accept it.

although i have to say, i have not experienced lags on bittrex. they are mostly common with polo.

it also depends on your internet speed and the code that you are using and your latency.
1991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Some LiteCoin (LTC) analitic on: July 07, 2017, 11:24:07 AM
Litecoin have zero progress for 5 years.

Zero progress and 5 years don't match.

haha, exactly. by no progress OP means litecoin has kept up the number of transactions that it has on a daily basis on a high number (5k-10k) for more than five years and then this number grew during the price rise.

and here is SYScoin that he advertises: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sys/#
all the blocks are empty and only have the coinbase transaction (the 1 mandatory transaction that gives the block reward to the miners)
1992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: liteaddress.org says bitaddress.org after downloading zip on: July 07, 2017, 11:15:44 AM
I have to jump in here, as I'm attempting to create a paper wallet (sorry for the bump !).
Not only does the offline version say "bitaddress.org", but the wallets it generate are definitely bitcoin wallets.

Kinda useless for Litecoin Tongue

Any idea where a proper offline version of liteaddress.org can be had ?

hmm, that is very weird indeed.
i believe this is the repository: https://github.com/litecoin-project/liteaddress.org

i've also sent a message to coblee (the litecoin creator) about this.
1993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN Q AND A - LAST AND NEW Q`S on: July 07, 2017, 10:57:21 AM
#1 No. just no!

#2 that only shows less transactions because the spam attack stopped. in fact the number of real transactions have been growing for some time now.

#3 if you have something to say, say it here. i have a feeling you just post low quality stuff with your caps lock on which is annoying. so i wont bother reading this.
and the question should actually be "why so low price"
1994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is digital gold, what will be the digital "dollar"? on: July 06, 2017, 10:51:08 AM
And yes, I was talking the slowness in validation for Bitcoin. If you're at the grocery store, waiting 10min for confirmation isn't an option.
- It's currently not suitable for quick transactions due to the time needed for validation. If you were to buy groceries with gold, validation would make it unpractical.

i suggest you to in the real world and find these shops (grocery store or coffee shop or whatever) that are accepting bitcoin. and then ask them two questions.
1. do they require confirmation before we can leave with the goods
2. have you ever been scammed by someone paying with bitcoin

the answer to both these questions are no.
it may surprise you but double spend is not easy and also figuring out the risk of a double spend is a piece of cake. and the computer running a wallet application in front of the cashier can tell him/her in about 5 seconds.
1995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I'd like to invest 100€ for now, is this the right way? on: July 06, 2017, 10:39:45 AM
you are starting with a small amount of money and that is already very good decision. and also you should always remember to invest what you can afford to lose. don't get greedy because you made some profit and go all in!

also in my experience in this market you need to know two things:
1. what that coin you are investing in, is offering.
for example is it really offering some useful features that people are using, is there any reason for it to get more adopted or is it all hype and a big pump and dump

2. what does its charts look like.
this is very important. i am not a big fan of TA and i don't think it works much in altcoins but it is good to check to see if they are at least in a bubble after a pump or in the beginning stages of the pump. then invest in it is the later not former.

your investment:
i personally don't like ethereum and believe it is a very high risk investment with low returns at this point.
ripple seems to be in a dip and may give some profit but i don't expect much from it either.
not sure about antshares
but litecoin has a lot of potential not only because it is on the rise but also with all the additions lately it is being improved a lot and is becoming a good challenge.
1996  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best wallet for altcoins? on: July 06, 2017, 10:29:56 AM
only cold storage.
things aren't really different when it comes to storing an altcoin. so same as bitcoin the safest way to store them is using a cold storage. and that means paper wallet or anything else that offers cold storage. for example Trezor which is hardware wallet supports a couple of altcoins too.

if you search around there are tools for making paper wallets for most of the altcoins too. you just make it offline on a clean computer and then at the time of spending you just install the official wallet and sweep them.
1997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about Pump-dump groups? on: July 06, 2017, 10:20:08 AM
what you keep seeing is one person who is desperately spamming about his scam on the forum, everywhere to get more victims.
and it is idiotic and too obvious. they just list a couple of altcoins that have already gone up and take credit for their rise.

and as always all these pump groups don't care about other users who join them. as i said they want victims. gullible newbies who are desperate to make some money just because when they asked "how can i earn bitcoin" people told him trading is a way to make lots of it. and when they tried they obviously failed to do so.
and instead of going the hard route of learning, they choose to be a sheep Cheesy
1998  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is it possible to transfer its Bitcoin to Bank Accounts or Credit Cards ??? on: July 06, 2017, 10:12:06 AM
in case you are trying to receive payments in your business using bitcoin but receive fiat instead you can check out bitpay. they offer such services, you integrate their system in your business and give them a price and the customer sees the value in BTC and pays in BTC but you can choose to either receive that BTC or receive the fiat instead. and that is done automatically to your bank account.

2000  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is digital gold, what will be the digital "dollar"? on: July 04, 2017, 11:52:56 AM
Bitcoin is also fairly slow
it is the fastest thing you can hope for. when you send a transaction it takes about 3 seconds to propagate through the whole network and for the receiver to see it in his wallet.
the confirmation is what takes time and that time is 10 minutes on average for 1 and for making it un-spendable 1 is 99% irreversible because of the high difficulty and 3 is more suitable for bigger transaction sizes. meaning time is between 10 to 30 minutes.

in comparison i have never checked the propagation time and never seen any studies (the 3 seconds above was a research) so i can't say anything about that.
some altcoins have faster blocks even in seconds but because of number of orphans, lower difficulty and some other things everyone asks for much higher confirmation which means the total confirmation for an irreversible transaction is usually the same 30 or in some cases 1 hour.

Quote
Bitcoin also has a cap at 21MBTC.
this is only a positive thing!

Quote
Could it be that Bitcoin will become the equivalent of digital gold?
No. despite everyone wanting to see it that way, bitcoin was made with the purpose of being a digital currency and it is doing exactly that.

Quote
Everyone recognizes gold as very valuable but it's not used for everyday transactions.
gold used to be used as a currency for transactions. and now it is used as a backing for the fiat in many countries.

Quote
I've seen people describing LiteCoin and Etherium as digital "silver" if BTC is the digital gold.
they call litecoin the silver to bitcoin's gold never before anyone called ethereum as such.
ether is not even a currency to be compared with bitcoin. it is a platform for smart contracts that happens to have a token which is only supposed to be used for smart contracts nothing else. and it can not and is not designed to be used as a currency.

Quote
But silver isn't used in everyday transactions either.
nobody uses a precious metal for transaction (aka as a currency) you can make coins out of them like the old ages and use  those coins as currency though.

Quote
Is there a cryptocurrency out there that has what it takes to become the "digital dollar"? A cryptocurrency suitable for everyday transactions...
What makes it/them suitable?

IMHO the concept is a bit awkward.
The Dollar (and any other Fiat currency out there) is constantly being diluted with freshly printed Fiat, and that is the exact opposite of what we want from a cryptocurrency.
But if a currency only has a fixed amount of units, it'll be in a perpetual deflationary state, that's not necessarily a positive thing either.
i don't quite get this part.
if you want a digital crtypocurrency which is decentralized, has a large supply without an end (no cap), has a solid blockchain and network, is secure, fast and cheap then i guess off the top of my mind i can name Dogecoin.
i believe they removed the cap!

but the problem is always adoption. it doesn't matter what the coin is, as long as nobody uses it as a currency, it will remain useless.
