If it's a mass mail, someone should send 0.00000001 without fees to that address with a warning note like "IT'S A SCAM" and this thread's link. Grin
1984  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: In electrum, is wallet.dat the same as electrum.dat on: August 12, 2013, 12:38:31 PM
I use electrum and I want to backup my wallet. Is wallet.dat the same as electrum.dat ?

Also, how best to secure said wallet? I have heard of various ways, but don't know which is the best.

Cheers,

-synf

Yes it's same.
In QT it's wallet.dat and in electrum it's electrum.dat

Well best way to keep your wallet secure is, "keep your pc secure".
If you are using windows, check these tips.

Hi. thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I suspected that, but wanted to confirm it.

I don't use Windows for BTC. But I do use OS X and ArchLinux.

What's the general consensus about storing ones wallet on Dropbox? I take it that's a big "no no".
Regards.

If you are using mac, make sure to install a av atleast and yes i will say  "no" for dropbox, if someone got your password somehow, you will might loose your bitcoins.

However if you still want to put it on dropbox, zip it and put some good password in file.
Make sure to remember password or store them offline in a diary etc.

Good progress, there! You're getting close, as Kris apparently solved 1, 2 and 4, too  Smiley

I gave up on #3 and #5

5th is solved and 3rd one have a hint.
So feel free to try again and make that wallet empty. Grin

You can use the Ignore boards feature to get rid of posts like that https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile&;sa=ignoreBoards

^ Best solution.
I have ignored several local forums.
1992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is a "signed message" how/why to send one w/ bitcoin? on: August 11, 2013, 01:08:36 AM
It is important to copy and paste and send the message in the text box exactly as it appears. Sometimes it is lengthy (for example you might want to include a shipping address).  In the example above you might want to send of an email like this:

Address:
16m49pTkuxQ3zh2x24N5mVpPHmYgaG65

Message:

***********begin message***********
It's me escrow.ms
*************end message**********

Signature:

^ Yes, btw i deleted my post as i thought tradefortress's suggestion was better.

MOST FAMOUS ESCROW, JUST THE LETTERS, KEEP THE CASE.

User name "John (John K.)" minus the spaces, parentheses, and period = "JohnJohnK"

How did you found that? I mean A=T and B=N
OP posted a pic of caeser but i tried caeser shift and didn't got anything.

1996  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling Block Erupter .8 BTC per unit. on: August 10, 2013, 09:47:59 PM
When I was middle manning for some of these erupters originally along with an avalon unit (selling for a third party) I got lazy and just photoshopped an image to move the deal along. It was dumb. People (like the guy posted above) marked my account with negative trust. If I wanted to scam I'd just have made another account.

If that's the case then use escrow and btw your prices are pretty much high.
BE's are getting sold for 0.35 now.

1999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Would someone explain the Ubercart bitcoin module to me in English? on: August 10, 2013, 08:39:21 PM
I'd suggest just using bitpay's ubercart plugin. No need to worry about securing a bitcoin daemon (or even having one running), and it just works well. [I've been a Drupal developer for several years now, and I'm using BitPay's plugin.]
On top of that you will need 9-10 GB of space for blockchain file.

However if you still want to use it.

First you need to update your vps then install bitcoind

apt-get update
apt-get install bitcoind bitcoin-qt
<- This will install and setup bitcoind

then start bitcoind (or run bitcoin-qt until the block chain is complete, and then run the bitcoind once you close bitcoin-qt)

Once you start it type ./bitcoind getinfo and should get a response.

Then run this
bitcoind -rpcuser=testuser -rpcpassword=testpass -debug
( this sets the username and password that is allowed to connect to bitcoind)

------------------------

Then Follow step 2 instructions

Ps: I have never installed Bitcoind on a vps before,i just posted whatever was in article with some extra info.

I'm not sure but you might need to create a .conf file

edit: Yes I'm going to scam people for 0.24$ Cheesy What a profit!

No he was saying about "change address"  a guy got scammed for 40 btc because someone gave him a private key to import funds and when QT used it as a change address, that guy took his bitcoins.

Anyways i have sent you 1 mBTC on that address, you can now pay 0.0005 BTC fees and send money easily, use electrum or blockchain.info.
