19901  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: ricardotemporal on: December 03, 2013, 07:20:21 PM
I wanted to sell some bitcoins for pound sterling and was contacted by ricardotemporal who wanted to buy.
He posted a link to his localbitcoins account: https://localbitcoins.com/accounts/profile/ricardotemporal/ a heavily used and trusted account.

On his localbitcoin account he has a facebook link, so I asked him to message me from this facebook account, which he couldn't.  So I posted on the wall of the account to confirm that he was who he said he was, but I got a reply back saying that he had not offered me any deals.

Watch out for this guy.  Fortunately he is a junior member, but his trust is 0, so someone could easily fall for it.

Nicely played.
19902  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Got this in my inbox... on: December 03, 2013, 07:18:53 PM
Hi found this thread http://"http://...bitcointalk.yzi.me/indexphp%3Ftopic%3D276623.0/index.html"
about giving 0.002 BTC (2$) to give your signature, I want to know if they are really ginving those btc just for your signature

I'm not clicking that link, but yes, people pay out for sigs. Some are scams, some aren’t, and you can get way more than 0.002 BTC.

Interested in thread. I have a possible suggestion. Will get back to you soon.
19904  Other / Off-topic / Re: Silkroad 2.0 on: December 03, 2013, 07:02:36 PM
Where did U find this info?
It's available on the internet.

I wouldn't buy anything which could harm my privacy and freedom.

Don't forget that TOR browser was made from US Military, they could been working on a new SilkRoad and track you.

I heard there were quite a few undercover cops posing as dealers on SR, so they could get the addresses of buyers and arrest them.

feds are more interested in busting vendors. and what's the point in having undercover accounts when you could easily bust the people who provided their personal info without PGP encryption? lots of buyers didn't, quite possibly because they are junkies/addicts.

Yeah, I doubt they're gonna waste their time trying to catch little Jimmy Bob trying to be an eight of quality weed. And besides, I think it may fall under entrapment if they set the vendor account up themselves. They could maybe bust a vendor and take over his account and that would be legit, but I don't think they can keep shipping out the drugs, so I'm sure somebody will know something is up when a top-rated vendor's packages suddenly stop arriving. Feds go after dealers and suppliers, not waste their time on small time users.
19905  Other / Off-topic / Re: When will amazon accept BITCOINS??? They can deliver items via DRONEs now... on: December 03, 2013, 06:58:39 PM
I can make very good business shotting those drones down...

This. I would order stuff, wait for it to be delivered, then try either capture them or smash 'em to bits with a baseball bat.

Yeah, pretty mainstream but I only listen to the radio.
19907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help on: December 03, 2013, 06:49:40 PM

i personally have a Raspberry Pi that is my wallet. i only plug it in to send funds to another address. far cheaper then buying a whole new PC to use purely for fund storage.

This is actually a brilliant idea. Might do this myself. Gonna look into this as I was thinking about having one PC just for my bitcoins and nothing else.

And a ridiculously strong one for your bitcoins/banks etc. Dictionary words and birth year ain't gonna cut it.
Most bank websites in the US actually forbid strong passwords. The strongest I've ever seen is maximum of 12 characters, only letters and numbers allowed.

Typically you're restricted to 8 letters and numbers only.

Suppose that's not too bad. Most peoples' passwords will probably be less than 10 characters anyway. Is there a maximum amount on bitcoin wallets?
19910  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Free Mini-Bitcoin Lottery here! [FREE BTC] on: December 03, 2013, 06:29:22 PM

Bitmit is not operational anymore.

How much do you get for chatting on coinchat.org?

Meh, not much.

Don't expect to get rich in a day or something.

Because of the increase in btc price, they're giving something like 0.05 mbtc each time if you qualify for their award.

haha I'm not expecting to get rich, but how long do you have to chat for 0.05? How much would you get if you chatted all day on there?
19911  Other / Meta / Re: So Is The Forum All Cool And Secure Now? on: December 03, 2013, 06:24:34 PM
I'm going to have to come up with a separate password for each Bitcoin based website now because of all these attacks going on Sad

Actually, you should have a seperate password for every account not only Bitcoin based...

And a ridiculously strong one for your bitcoins/banks etc. Dictionary words and birth year ain't gonna cut it.
19912  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB: Small amount of BTC .02 on: December 03, 2013, 06:18:07 PM
Hi there,

I can sell you 0.02 BTC - no problem. PM me to proceed.

He seems to have already got half of it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=352622.msg3800938#msg3800938

Plus he sold his Nintendo 64 on the marketplace, but seems to be asking for another 0.1btc now, so maybe make the offer there.
19913  Other / Meta / Re: Petition: disable 'self-moderation' on: December 03, 2013, 06:08:59 PM

Please disable 'self-moderation'.  Legitimate debate does not need to silence dissent.  And this is exactly what its being used for, people trying to control perceptions of something.  And it has a chilling effect - why bother to type out a post if you know there is a chance your reply will be deleted.  And why clutter up the site posting a competing thread if the topic is only marginally important to you (and a competing thread doesn't address the problem of the original poster controlling perception for people that only saw their thread).

And if you look at what its used for: I see only people disparaging bitcoin with lies while deleting rebuttals, and some highly questionable services trying to maintain a positive image (I can't find the thread again, but a guy was offering bounties for links to forums using particular old versions of some software and the thread was 'self-moderated').

Forget about it.

If you don't want to be moderated, then don't post in that thread in create your own.

Problem solved.

Its not that simple in many cases.

Take the exam of 'XYZ mining' a ficticious mining company that rocks up pretending to have stock. We may find out information that categorically labels it as a 99% scam, but it gets deleted. A newbie rolls in and falls for it because they don't see anyone saying otherwise.

Its dangerous.

People create threads saying they are a scam. Problem solved.

If newbies still get scammed then they're idiots for not investigating first. Natural selection takes place.

I agree with this to a certain extent, but it's not always as easy and as simple as that, especially if the thread is buried or whatnot. And most newbs by definition are quite naive and are just looking to get some coins quick and easy, so this can lead to problems, but yeah, they should be weary of everyone and everything to minimise fuckups..
19914  Other / Meta / Re: Petition: disable 'self-moderation' on: December 03, 2013, 10:11:26 AM

Forget about it.

If you don't want to be moderated, then don't post in that thread in create your own.

Problem solved.

I suppose this is the first rule, but free speech shouldn't be stifled in most cases. Self-moderation is a double-edge sword. I don't think it should be allowed in some sections like the politics section, but for others I guess that's up to them. But like dogie said, it can be handy for scammers. If you're a scammer, you can delete the negative feedback or when people express doubts. Obviously this will immediately become a red flag to most, but not always.

It really annoys me when moderators on websites delete posts or even ban your accounts etc just because you've said something they don't like. It's pathetic.

I asked what the source for Max Keiser's coins was in rpietila's Bitcoin TOP-500 Richest thread, and he deleted my post without warning. When I questioned him he gave me this response:

What did you delete my post for?

Double-post. You have posted the same thing already, and nobody has answered. Also the original will soon be deleted, because it is useless to have a question which is not answered.

That is absolutely ridiculous logic. What's the meaning of life? Oh, it hasn't been answered so far so it's a useless question and must be repressed and removed.

Fine to delete a double post, but why delete a valid question that people are still looking for an answer to? I haven't seen any sources for Keiser's coins or many of the others on the list, so without sources this list is useless, not my comment looking for some facts. I'll never get an answer if you remove it.

He then removed both my posts asking for sources on Keiser's coins. Completely bizarre.

You should be doing that regardless.

This. You really can't be too careful, especially when there's cryptocurrency involved.
19916  Economy / Economics / Re: 1 bitcoin, 4 litecoins and 33 PPC, $ 500 more to use to buy coins - which one? on: December 03, 2013, 09:52:42 AM
I would go for Feathercoins, personally. They're pretty cheap at the moment and the potential for profit is huge. I expect big things from them in the near future.
19917  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the minimum IQ needed to understand Bitcoin on a basic level? on: December 03, 2013, 09:51:13 AM
I once heard a schoolkid on bus ask his mates "What does IQ mean?" One replied: "I think it means 'Intelligence Quiz'" I lol'd pretty hard.
19918  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can it be earning BTC from just ads and faucets on: December 03, 2013, 09:43:00 AM
Get a real job , earn some money , buy BTC.
You'll be spending more than 8 hours a day and end up with less than 1$ worth of btc.

Of course there is that as well, but some people are lazy and like to hope they can get free money for just clicking around on the internet.
19919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does the bible say about Bitcoin? on: December 03, 2013, 09:37:23 AM
Satoshi appears as a bible code in genesis , 3 times.... thats proof enough for me Smiley
http://www.divinecoders.com/index.php?keyword=satoshi&book=1

I've read that Bible Code book and it seems to "predict" anything the author wants it to.

This is one piece of literature where I recommend it's ok to judge a book by its cover.

But did you read the sequel?

Nope. Should I?
19920  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to safely sell Bitcoins on eBay? on: December 03, 2013, 09:28:10 AM
Would it be safe to send a paper wallet to their home address as long as they paid with a bank transfer or sent you a cheque or cash in the mail? Could they still open up a dispute? I don't think they could do anything that way, could they?

I guess you could sell them for money orders, but you don't want to take any form of payment that could come from a victim of fraud(that likely includes bank transfers). The real solution here is that you have to trust the buyer. If you don't trust the buyer don't let them purchase from you.

I'm curious, have any of these auctions for obscene amounts(2-3x market rate) been legitimate?

I am also curious of this. I have seen a million Infinitecoins go for $200+ on ebay. I bought 3 million off ebay a month ago for £7 and I thought I overpaid  Cool.
