21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can I find a good altcoin? on: January 09, 2018, 07:23:08 PM
Since someone recently asked me "what coin are you going to invest in", I'll explain how I came to my last investments
I just went through a bunch of these kind of posts for 5 hours and made a list of all relatively new coins.
So I kept how many times it was mentioned, by what kind of profile, what the reason was he mentioned it (good tech or just 'look at my coin').
How many times is of course irrelevant for smaller or rather new coins. I then listed market cap and whether the coin had already a serious spike or not and how long the coin is active. Then I picked about 8 that sounded interesting and are not already at a super high market cap.
Finally I researched team (I especially look at strong developers personally) and read the use case to see whether I believe in their ideas/project, then I check some reviews of other people. I ended up with:

DRGN - blockchain platform
QRL - Quantum resilient Ledger (quantum is probably coming faster than people think)
FLIXXO - Film distribution network
VIB - Network to connect music artists and bookers
EXRNchain (but this one is a risk, I've only put a small amount here) - inter blockchain gateway (transactions between different kind of blockchains)

Obviously I focus on rather new coins (and therefore maybe more risky) with (what I believe) is a good use case, strong tech and which have no insane market cap (I don't expect market caps of several billions to rise 1000%).

I love the sound of silence, This means 97% of the XUN community members are happy Smiley

I sure am happy, thx for the quick responses to keep us up to date on the situation on discord .. and of course the airdrop for the block that was stuck.
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most anonymous coin at the moment, Deep onion or not? on: January 07, 2018, 09:01:20 PM
It all depends on how you approach it. Different coins have different opinions on how anonymity should be implemented.
There is in my opinion not something as 'this is the most anonymous' coin. Clearly the fact that we are talking about 'more' or 'less' anonymous is that all of them have positive points and flaws. Else we would answer this question with: "they are all 100% anonymous, just pick the flavour which you like most". For a comparison, someone has recently put some work in that:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2669844.msg27619280#msg27619280

They are missing some of course.. e.g. anoncoin which is there from the start but is often overlooked since they care mainly about the tech and algorithm and not about marketing and pumping the coin. In a conversation with them when I ask how they are different they actually were quite open to how other coins approach the problem instead of answering: "we are the best", which is how it should be... they should not compete, they all want to achieve a common goal and are learning (and sometimes stealing) from each other.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can anyone explain why titcoin price is going wild lately? on: January 07, 2018, 08:53:20 PM
Any theories why the price is rising that strongly?
https://www.coingecko.com/en/price_charts/titcoin/usd

Did anyone use tit already in their game (http://store.steampowered.com/app/508660/Triple_X_Tycoon/)? Since it seems the price is rising strongly but I don't see why.

I am guessing it tickled some peoples fancy. I have had a titcoin wallet for some time. It just appealed to me. I also have quite a few other crypto currency wallets. The other one that was doing crazy things was the UNIT crypto currency. It was up to about 80 cents a Unit, with sometimes going over $1 per UNIT. The problem with UNIT is the wallet is incredibly slow on my machine.  The TITCOIN wallet is quick, and by quick, I mean it quickly synchronized with the TITCOIN blockchain. It took about a week for my UNIT wallet to sync.

Overall I think miners are looking for currencies they can quickly mine, and speculators are looking for fluctuating coins they can make a quick profit on. The speculators give the miners someone to sell too and the speculators then can sell to other speculators.

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense.

Does someone have an idea how Anoncoin (ANC) compares to these?
They barely don't do any marketing but are developing again since recently.

28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: You should NOT be buying altcoins now! on: January 05, 2018, 06:44:51 PM
Bitcoin aka Shitcoin will be dumped again. It unavoidable.
Bitcoin is inferior to so many altcoins, that the true altcoin is really Bitcoin

then go all in right now on any piece of crap that isn't bitcoin right this very second. good luck with that one. i think it may not work out how you plan.

bitcoiners have a blind spot when it comes to taking alts seriously. alt fanbois have absolutely the same problem in the opposite direction. everyone should be owning both and they'll be a bunch more relaxed.

I did own both and what I try to explain here is not to bash on bitcoin, I genuinely try to understand the reasoning for someone to advice that you should buy bitcoins.
yet, please convince me why I would still hold bitcoins? The only reason I would think of would be that I believe that it would rise in price. For transactions it is not usable at all atm and extremely expensive. If that is the only reason, then the next question in my mind would be: "why do people still think that bitcoin will rise?". I'm not saying it is not possible, it is just illogical, even if it is purely because people who want to gain money keep pumping the bubble.

Bitcoin drops in price as far as I know were caused by people (bitcoin.com) or platforms (steam) who were sending messages to the world that bitcoin is at its limits (ok, some are people who want to scam you in another coin *cough* bitcoin cash.., but certainly not all of them). Which is probably true given the transaction times and transaction fees to send something. If it would rise even more or the usage becomes more then these problems become worse. more problems means more public complaints, less usability, less incentive to buy. I imagine a storm of complaints coming from people who hold bitcoins that are basically worthless since they have to pay an insane amount of money just to transfer some. They probably won't care since they got rich holding them in that case, yet who would still buy them at that point when the transaction fee to get them is so high to buy them and to sell them again you'll lose a few 100 dollars. I do all my transactions recently in ETH because bitcoin is basically burning a big chunk of your money at the point you buy it.
If nobody buys anymore.. price will drop again, that or bitcoin will become a niche and be useful for the super rich. Or am I missing something?

So I really can't see why some are saying that bitcoin will hit 100 000 some day. I do not claim to understand this, I am following this as a hobby and not looking into the techs as much as I would want to, but by all means give me arguments that what I am saying is wrong.

Besides of that, it is true that it is inferior tech and there are still people out there who are no creating coins because they want to improve the technology or provide other use cases. Most of the coins out there have better tech than bitcoin. Granted, most of the coins out there copied the tech from another coin. Originally the possibility of moving money out of control of governments and a certain degree of 'anonymity' made bitcoin popular as far as I know. Why would a coin that provides better anonymity (hence the hype on anonymous coins recently I assume), faster and cheaper transactions, better toolchains, other use cases not take over at some point.

At some point, if it is not in the first 2-3 years and if blockchain is here to stay, then it is not unthinkable that some other coin will take over. Nobody knows which one.. for all we know nobody gains a thing and loses everything if the winner appears to be a completely new coin created by a political council once bitcoin-likes are completely accepted by governments and banks (if ever they will accept that or if ever the community will accept government control, yet remember laws can make it difficult for people to put money in and out of bitcoin) and the only way to gain these coins will be by exchanging with banks. Nobody can predict what will happen. So is it worth investing in altcoins.. who knows... probably not in the very long run, but why is bitcoin better?

Great thread, I appreciate it, just wanted to thank you as it's a very nice initiative and a really good job  Cool

Indeed, great job... I was thinking of doing something like that but I do not have the necessary knowhow to do so and it seems like a lot of work.
One of the oldest coins named 'Anoncoin' does not seem to be there. I already informed the devs about your thread.
(they are mainly focused on development and less on marketing)
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: January 05, 2018, 12:45:46 PM
Dear devs,

I noticed someone is comparing anonymity of coins and noticed anoncoin is not in there?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2669844.0

Maybe good to follow that up.

Kind Regards,
Shin
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Top Coins for 2018 you need to HODL! on: January 01, 2018, 11:36:59 PM
What are some of the most Anonymous coins for 2018?

After version 1.4 (end of January), and definitely after version 2.0 (Q2 2018), it would be XSPEC: stealth addresses by default, only coin integrated into TOR and with OBSF4, ring signature and many more nice and unique features.

I would also go for Xspec,
and I would follow up on Anoncoin as well for the future, although they do not solve the problem with tor but with I2P

ok great,

but I have only 400-600 H/s btw, I'm a casual miner.. if that's a thing.
Is that normal?
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] #3 [XUN] UltraNote is READY, Everyone is welcome to mine. on: January 01, 2018, 04:23:13 PM
guys, the alpha.ultranote.org pool is giving back errors with message: 'Whoppie!'.
Although the message is funny could someone take a look at that?  Roll Eyes
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I have $50000 for investment which fortfolio is best for 2018 on: January 01, 2018, 03:48:06 PM
As most people say, decide for your self how much money you want to put on:
- relative certainty (known coins and good tech)
- hoping it will increase strongly in the long run (good tech, not widely known)
- gamble (unknown coins)

Personally I would put 50-70% of such an amount on rather safe established coins so you are sure that that big amount of money does not fade away into nothing (monero, ethereum, neo, etc...). Personally I do not thrust the value of bitcoin to stay up at all, although a lot of people still heavily believe in it. Bitcoin also does not fulfil the 'good tech' requirement imo, everyone knows it is at its limits and that most other coins have a better foundation. Which is logical, it was the first one..

For the 'gamble' I would also aim for icos (e.g. crypterium), rather unknown coins which are rising (e.g. devs of anoncoin came back, casinocoin is booming since a new gambling goeroe joined the team), or just read up on new altcoins and try to determine which seem to be solid. In terms of coins with strong tech, I had quite some luck with Factom and Spectre (xspec), Deeponion lately. The latter two are hot because anonymity is hot again. But be advised that anyone will advise the coins they hold money in... since:
- they know them.. and you can't know all coins
- every time they mention it, there is a chance someone else invests in it and the coin grows bigger.
- if you invest, the price goes up for them, remember that!
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Top Coins for 2018 you need to HODL! on: December 30, 2017, 08:45:18 AM
Thanks for the pointers, will certainly check them out.
I've put most in Spectre(XSPEC) atm, that was apparently a very good choice until now.
Anoncoin is probably going to rise quite a bit as well since their devs are back (coin that runs on i2p https://www.ivpn.net/privacy-guides/an-introduction-to-tor-vs-i2p).

Both of them were low to buy because they are doing solid dev work and were/are not marketing a lot (yet).

Why after 2 hours of mining (I waited a night after doing that and just restarted) does the balance remain 0.
My hash is around 500-600 H/S
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most anonymous coin at the moment, Deep onion or not? on: December 28, 2017, 11:42:06 AM
anoncoin's blockchain is running under i2p. also new implementations are being developed to make additional obfuscation features.

exactly, a coin which has been there from the start and has proven to have honest devs until now.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your cryptocurrency for 2018? Tell me! on: December 17, 2017, 04:17:09 PM
I am still waiting for some very old coins (although they are not so cool technically as the existing ones)
Anoncoin might see a strong rise -> the dev & team are back and planning new things for 2018
Casinocoin might see a strong rise -> moving to ripple network
Titcoin is currently rising due to the devteam that took over.

For the newer coins I am aiming at:
XSpec
DeepOnion
BAT
Factom
Ardor

39  Other / Archival / Re: what ALT coins are hot atm on: December 17, 2017, 02:41:47 PM
Deepcoin & Xspec.. (anonymous coins), personally I can't make out which of the two are better only that deepcoin is doing a lot of marketing and xspec seems to be focusing on development en tech
Casinocoin has been hot and will probably be hotter since they are changing to ripple network (dont forget to swap if you buy). Not sure of the real value here though..
Ardor..
Somn maybe soon? Still doubting myself whether to invest
