21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CVC] CIVIC Tokensale :: 21 June on: June 23, 2017, 05:30:57 PM
I thought the ICO was very well executed personally. It provided a nice contrast to how Status.im conducted their ICO the same day.

Civic:
- queued their contributions to prevent network congestion
- ensured everybody had a space in line.
- provided clear information on when it would open (9am), so just get in line before that time and you're pretty much guaranteed a spot. Also communicated to users while they were in the line with a notice box.

Status:
- no queuing, and disrupted the entire network for hours with what amounted to a DDoS attack on the network by its own users
- no guarantee for a space in line, just an address that you need to send money to asap
- communication breakdowns while the entire network slowed to a crawl and people were sending money to a smart contract with no response. They took down their Slack channel after the blowback.

Civic conducted their ICO responsibly and professionally and I hope other ICOs follow their example.

well said! couldn't agree more

I would not be surprised to see the "value" of this token drop by 80% once it hits exchanges. The way they did the ICO has infuriated so many people.

There will probably be a new coin that does the exact same thing, but does a smart contract and a "normal" ICO and the price goes thru the roof simply because they didnt do this stupid ICO method.

I rate the ico, you was obviously at the back of the que. over 50,000 people were queing for the ico> are you trying to tell me that wouldn't crash the server?

Didn't buy because the ICO was priced insanely high. But I really like the model. It helps people get in, the big guys and the small guys. Amazing model!

how is $0.10 insanely high?

931 people in front of me. Any chance of getting in?

You have about a 1% chance of actually getting a token. They are 40% of the way through with the sale, and only ~380 have gone through the line.

Why they did not just do a smart contract is beyond me. In the attempt to "make it fair" they ABSOLUTELY FUCKED everybody who didnt get in line fast enough.

AbsoFUCKINGlutely unbelievable.

No More than 1000 people already gone. here is my stats
Your assigned number is: 6769
Number of users ahead of you: 5615
Your estimated wait time: more than an hour

34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CVC] CIVIC Tokensale :: 21 June on: June 21, 2017, 10:46:27 AM
I planned to invest in this. But I am not able to do so, because I just have a 5.1.1 Android phone.
One the one hand side this is bad for me - but on the other hand side it shows that CIVIC could have some problems going mainstream.
It should be possible to have an app which also runs on older phones.

I think you can register via tokenmarket.net

This seems to be an interesting concept, however could you please post more details about how the identity verification will take place? Since you will be holding lots of personal data, how are you goinbg to protect it form leaking? Thanks and good luck!

So if i understand correct:

I have the app installed and setup. When the ico starts i scan the QR code code for the deposit address.
But after that i can use my desktop to make the transaction right??

I'm not sure what's mean of the Whitepaper Page 15, section 6 :

6. Risks Associated with Markets for Tokens
The Tokens are intended to be used solely within the Ecosystem and the Company will
not support or otherwise facilitate any secondary trading or external valuation of Tokens. This
restricts the contemplated avenues for using Tokens to the provision or receipt of Services, and
could therefore create illiquidity risk with respect to any Tokens you own. Even if secondary
trading of Tokens is facilitated by third-party exchanges, such exchanges may be relatively new
and subject to little or no regulatory oversight, making them more susceptible to fraud or
manipulation. Furthermore, to the extent that third parties do ascribe an external exchange value
to Tokens (e.g., as denominated in a digital or fiat currency), such value may be extremely
volatile and diminish to zero.

Does this mean the Civic has no plan to let token to trade on market?  It can only be used in Civic Ecosystem?

This thread is useless. None of the questions are being answered...

why don't you take the time to contact support directly as I did. I asked them a question and got an answer..... its really quite simple...Huh

so now its my fault they cant answer simple questions in a 17 page topic....
Where  can i contact their ¨support¨. There is no info on their site.

Go to tokensale.civic.com and look in the bottom left hand corner of your screen and you will see a support button

When creating a custom token you don't enter your own eth address in the address field. Use the contract address.  Try this:

0x983f6d60db79ea8ca4eb9968c6aff8cfa04b3c63

Thanks a lot - my SMN tokens are showing up in the wallet now  Grin

Anyway - where did you find the smart contract address? I couldn't find it myself.
you click on somn token in ethplorer and a the contract address will wppear in a box on the left side of your screen

I'm in, finally. Bit pissed off that the ETC limit was hit before I could get onto their site. Had to transfer to an exchange and covert to ETH then send back to my wallet before I could buy in. Would like to know what the limit on ETC buy in was...
mine also said eth limit had been reached so I hit the refresh button and got in!

How do I get the coins from metamask, I dont see them shown. I see the transaction went through but I dont see the tokens???

I can't see mine too? I am not understand this.

go to send ETH/tokens in my ether wallet
look to the right and you will see an option saying "tokens (ethplorer.io)" click on it and you will see snm coins (hopefully)
then follow these instructions: https://myetherwallet.groovehq.com/knowledge_base/topics/how-do-i-send-tokens-and-add-custom-tokens
make sure you copy the contract address and not your address
