21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Who has rx 570's in stock? on: May 22, 2017, 03:41:40 PM
Hi everyone it's been a while!  Been doing some other things and decided I need to build another rig.  But the RX 570's seem to be sold out everywhere.

Any good tips on whee I should be looking? Newegg and Aamazon seem to be failing me.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3 - 250mh - 400watt Scrypt miner coming soon on: February 19, 2017, 03:51:16 AM
I dont think this will ever get released outside of China to many large farms in china they probably buy up all the miners direct from bitmain and pay them not to publicly release them

I really hope it makes it out.  I still remember the L1 I ordered long long ago that they ended up canceling orders.   I would like to see this L3 make it out to public and also see some first hand's of what people think of it.

The "coming soon" of title does seem to be off.  And you might be right about not going directly to public. If they have made it and no real compitation out there it might make sense for them to mine them for a certain amount of time, then sell them.  As chances are they can still sell them down the road even if used.
They already sold them to the public as "Batch 1" and they are exactly to spec.  Everyone now is waiting on a second Batch.

I have been busy with other project's lately.  Was it a small batch?  I just thought I would see a lot more hand's on type threads if big launch.

24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The Future of GPU mining on: January 29, 2017, 07:56:52 PM
Modding on Rx models is pretty easy, you can search this forum or go to my website, www.cryptominingtalk.com and there is a section on it with links to .roms, etc.  I always suggest to new people this.  do you have a computer at home?  why not just buy a good GPU and mine with it ?  then you can test stuff, get experience, see if everything works.  AFter that, you can see if you want to expand, get one rig, set that up, etc.  A lot of people invest huge sums, only to run into problems and find out its not as profitable as they thought it would be.

There are also some articles out there on making your own rom's.  I did that personally as I like to see what is changing/happening.    I would agree on RX models being pretty easy if done right to get extra power (Disclaimer any flashing does have a possible brick chance, but so far I have not bricked a single one from flashing).

I think GPU mining is here to stay always will be some coin that remains popular, all we need is asic resistant coin's like some out there.  My advice is only invest what you can lose, and also look into buying those part's separate normally when someone sells a pre-built system it's higher then building on your own.  With gamer market always being there I view GPU mining as a little "safer" then asics just due to resell.

25  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Raspberry Pi 3 Mining on: January 02, 2017, 05:03:54 AM
I would REALLY look at a different option on some.  You will never make near what the 180 is on this were talking not even close.  You could use a RPI 3 without kit and just get parts you need.

I think you could find a powered hub for cheaper, and for one compac unless OCing you will not need the fan.   On Compacs it appears secondary market is pretty high to spend 70 dollars on it.  If you can wait you can look at sidehacks current project for about 1/2 the price - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1718358.0

So that would be my advice streamline the RPI and get just what you need.  Wait for sidehack on his next project as it just makes financial sense.  And look at hubs and see if you can find one for lower price.  But you can do something to learn much much cheaper then 180 dollars for a learning setup.
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: IS PANDAMINER an AFFILIATE of ZeusMiner, ZeusHash, OXBTC, HalleyBTC on: December 31, 2016, 03:45:55 AM
a test unit arrives from them to my home this Friday.

The first launch is limited to 500 pieces.

Lets see how it works and how  many can be ordered safely from them.

They sent the unit to me with no payment,  I am to buy it or return it after a week of testing.

Zeus  started out great to , then after months took pre orders then said they wouldn't be selling there new 300 MH miner that would have out done the A2 and you were going to be able to buy to upgrade kits the whole nine yards then they riped off millions if this is Zeus with a different name .  I saw you got one for review and gonna watch that thread .

The sharing of phone number is a little bit of a red flag.  I think it is a neat looking piece of hardware and am excited to see phil's review on it.   The two things I have trouble with

*Trusting a new company in this space.  Just so many scam's start out good and then vanish.  They really are going to fight a uphill battle to become trusted.  And the sharing of phone number in thread is interesting.
*Is resell value as you will be only selling it as a miner.  Even if everything go 100 percent good you could loose a decent amount of cash not being able to sell GPU's off one by one.   And not to mention losing warranty that the GPU's come with that is a pretty big thing to lose.

So really cool idea but not sure it makes sense for most of us miner's.  If you were to start a industrial GPU farm I can see a possible market.  But I don't think it will be for the common hobby miner.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins on vps on: December 26, 2016, 09:13:34 PM
yes, but in past, now even real GPU work hard to get small profit, any way you can try!

For a while I have been back into GPU.  The thing about it is we own the equipment so time/work/effort there is something there we can control.  I LOVED vps mining days but it was so quick/fast as abused bargin VPS sites.   I mean you could ROI instant on some which was just to good to last.  And it was not running it for cents in profit when it happened.

If someone set's up where ever this "free" vps is most likelly you will spend time/effort and they will ban it.  As unless its a trial who provides a good free VPS that is reliable and allows high usage? It is just to good to be true.  Don't get me wrong it could be a way to learn something and good to become out of it.  But if wanting to try for profit look into GPU.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins on vps on: December 26, 2016, 03:53:32 AM
If it's free you will be 99% banned for crypto mining, btw you could share how you got it  Grin

i also have some vps but i think using it mine coin is useless

I think most will be promo's some run like EC2 that you can run decent amount of cores without ban.  Anything that mentions like OP lifetime, or is a "bargin" type vps i know it's not popular not but Digital Ocean was the hot one when VPS mining hit it's small window (you can look it up lot's of old threads on running there).

It was a ton of fun... but it's been over a long time.  If anyone does some ROI math most is cent's.   If you are making dollars I think you would be spending so much more in fee's.  I would love to see some math behind anyone thinking of doing it.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins on vps on: December 25, 2016, 04:33:47 PM
yo - I've only had luck with two VPS hosts - one being via Winity.io - the most recent virmach.com

Virmach is prolly the way to go - you'll need to choose 'Add Upgrades/Addons' inside the UserCP and pay $10 for CPU cycling if you want to actually earn your money back. I never did, instead I just kept the standard 8gb/4core plan - if I remember correctly.

Windows Server via Remote Desktop makes it super easy to setup, and it yields results that are disappointing if you're in it for an actual beneficial arrangement, but, if you're a nerd at heart like me then it's worth the $4.99 or whatever the first month works out to be when you can apply a discount code or something.

GLHF -

if you end up going with/trying other VPS hosts for this purpose please let me know via PM or whatever - im interested in this side of things.

VPS mining has not made sense for a very very long time.   It really was really fun but a short lived mining (for the most part).  There was a TON of digital ocean long ago but they figured out pretty quick and banned users as high usage.  Almost all have a clause to shut down users that are high usage user's that are budget ones.

And even if you found a budget one that would allow mining I have not seen one for year's that made financial sense to use a VPS to mine.   I personally would suggest to anyone to look into building a GPU unit at their own place over trying to mine CPU on a VPS.  Even if you had say a free trial I would be surprised if you make much on CPU more then a number that is in the cents.
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ribbon vs USB risers, performance difference? on: December 05, 2016, 12:25:26 AM
Are USB risers really worse in terms of performance?

I know most of Ribbon risers are not shielded and the fact that cable's length plays a (significant) role in this too.

Also I saw USB risers rev 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, but I'm not sure what's the difference, they all look the same.
is someone still using ribbon risers ?

The one's I have had since LTC day's I have.  Amazing how long some of them have lasted on part's.   But I personally love USB riser's if I build a rig anymore.  You get extra space to spread out card's.  It looks much cleaner.

Either will work but once you try USB risers I think most will like them better.   Just so many advantages at least for me.
31  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: November 13, 2016, 06:27:43 AM
Going to buy a few s1's off Craigslist this weekend

I wouldn't jump the gun so quickly. Chance of Bitfury going bankrupt > delivering chips.

Yeah,I seriously doubt poor sidehack will ever see any decent amount of chips...anytime soon from Bitfury  Roll Eyes

They have proven to be teasers to this community since they ditched us years ago  Wink

I think the problem is they want to deal with only huge fish as buyer's.  In past it seemed hobby/home miner's were not really target market.   I mean they announced long ago they would sell the lightbulb they had.  I would have loved one for the heck of it, but nothing ever came of it.

I hope I am wrong and sidehack is able to get a source of chips, as I have enjoyed his compacs very much and would enjoy a 16nm from him.  But I would agree until sidehack say's he has chips in hand I would not go crazy buying S1's.
32  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How do i get started in bitcoin mining? on: November 12, 2016, 08:32:23 AM
Using your personal computer for mining bitcoins hasn't been an effective way of doing it for many years at this point, and I'm not sure that USB miners have ever been "profitable". If you want to get started with bitcoin you better start looking into some solar panels for your home to kill electricity cost and have a chunk of cash to throw at miners to actually generate a significant amount of coinage.

At one time they were a huge advance in asic mining.  The original block erupter's were really the only real time people might have been ROI'ing on them.  And that cold vary on if they sold them, and when.  I know I had 50 or 60 going at one time.   All of which I sold eventually.   But was a fun time.

Anymore it really is going to be a lotto machine/learning with usb sticks.  They just cost to much vs the big machines on hash.   So getting started to learn not a bad thing you can also get a RPI and learn a little Linux if not familiar with it.  So lot's of good learning possible for some.  But if profit is what your shooting for I would not look at usb sticks.  With today's asic's it really is kinda all about having cheap electricity.
33  Other / Meta / Re: I think this user needs banned on: November 01, 2016, 04:24:01 AM
I would only ever copy-paste code if I intended to reedit it soon after - making sure I later on edit the copy so I could reuse as much as possible. And by soon after, I mean minutes and hours later, not days and weeks.

I think college got me where I did not copy/paste, as even if notes and you forget to remove it was had to go in front of some honor board.  I never had any issues as I did not copy/paste.

Don't know if a report is possible but on new forum they might see if adding some automatic copy/paste searching software is possible.  I know in most big assignment teacher's would have assistant's scan in paper's or you had to upload digital copy and it automatically searched and came out with a report that was pretty impressive.  I think the school's paid a good amount of money for software so not sure how practical implementing something like it in the forum would be.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which incoming ICO to invest our BTC into? on: October 31, 2016, 08:37:51 PM
If people start to give their advices, don't follow them. If someone has a lucky plan, don't count on him to shout it everywhere.

I'm not sure this is alway's true there are a few coin's if I would have listened I would have mad massive profit's.  Then again I would have lost on almost all of them.  So a few diamonds in  there... but hitting them very very hard.

One thing to add is if you see referral take even less notice.  Some do referral spam saying X is great! Here use my link.    I pretty much do ignore all of those.

Guys all the credit goes to Fatunut here. He did all this work and received a bounty for it as well. I just posted his findings and fired Financial_Genius. It definitely was a damn good job by Fatunut here though.

yahoo,
please see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1648941.msg16737630#msg16737630
any bounty on wibuindon copy paste?

He said he wished there was one, I would not expect to see one.  It was great work on you guy's finding them as they lead to utter crap post's.   But I think any system rewarding catching copy/paste could be abused.

Someone copy/pastes on a account then turns it in... could be profit if bounty.   So I think "bad guys" make any system of bounty hard to implement. And I could be wrong but I think a few would abuse it and ruin for all.
36  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: SUGGESTIONS INQUIRED START UP A NEW MINING CENTER WITH BITMAIN ANTMINER S9 on: October 31, 2016, 08:05:55 PM
One advantage of the S9 over previous designs is that it makes less noise and less heat so your cooling cost is lower than the S7. R4 is still the best of them all but I'm not sure Bitmain still has anymore as at now.

The S9 I have had good luck with but I would not consider it a quiet miner.  You must be downclocking it a way's to get it even close to quiet.  And also most at this point use server PSU's on them and they are not quiet for most part either.  These are not problems for me with my mining area but a S7/S9 in some places might be to loud.   There are some who have made boxes or other things to help soundproof and that can make a difference.

But if quiet is what your looking for there are some older generation stuff that are much more quiet.  Or wait and hope to see more of R4.   But hard to predict what is happening there so would not build a "mining center" waiting on R4's.

But OP you need to go into so much more detail's and you really are going to have to do a lot of research to.  We really cannot set up your mining area , but can help on some aspect's.  But again need a lot more info.  I suggest reading some other threads on this or look at picture thread for idea's.  Come back with what you want, budget, etc.  And you will find much better help.
37  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Starting to mine on: October 31, 2016, 07:49:08 PM
I have no problem when It comes to the noise but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to cool it , is there is any machines for that ?
I really want to know how much It costs to open a mining farm + how much the monthly earnings that could be made from it ? I'm sure the earnings between those who mine in their houses and in a mining are incomparable , If opening a mining farm worth it , I may really consider doing it.

One thing coming up for many miner's is winter in not to much longer.  We have made it through a lot of summer already.  But we would really need to know where you are and climate.

Personally best cooling I think is evaporation if you can use it.  But I live where climate makes evaporation cooling not a option.  So I use what most do and that is high CFM fan's to push the heat and a commercial exhust.  I used standard attic exhust and I just got to hot so that is what made me go commercial and yes it put's out some air.  You can read from a summer ago me battling heat - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1020826.new#new .  I do have a assortment of fan's at this point but main two I use are Utilitech Pro 24 inch (7860 CFM), and a Utilitech Pro 36 (12,000 CFM).  This will be overkill for most out there though as again it depends on how many watt's you plan on using making heat mining.

It all depends aswell on how many miner's you have as the more miner's the more heat.  Also keep in mind you need to be able to handle the electricity, if you plan on decent size most places are not wired up for it and you will need to get some wiring done.  So there can be some setup cost's cooling, wiring, PDU's, shelves, etc it can add up but most one time investment.

I guess you guys got a point , It's simply that I got excited when I saw that some people are earning thousands/millions of of dollars , It could me some take but I want to know how much It could cost approximately (saying It costs 1m dollar to earn x $ monthly) , I want to set some goals so I start once I'm ready.

Again setup cost's we simply cant know as we don't have enough information.  We also don't know how many watt's of gear your planning on using or how much electrical capacity you have.   Also you mention different prices if you do a decent amount of miner's it could possibly bring you out of that cheap electricity you mention houses have there.  We don't know since we don't have electric plan/information.   We do not even know your budget which is important.

You hare going to have to do a LOT of legwork to look at running a mine earning thousand's a month as you mention or more.    You might be able to find local miner to help  and consult.  But again as some have said it's not a get rich quick scheme.  I say set down and make a business plan of it, and also start small don't jump in hoping for thousands.  Keep in mind earning thousands and profiting thousands are two massively different things too.
38  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: optiona is allways good. 16nm ASIC, 100w/THS 0.1J/GH on wall. on: October 31, 2016, 06:19:37 PM
Others have tried to be competitive with Bitmain before and it just is hard to do.   SP did that with SP20 and they claimed to be losing money on them
Do you trust them?.. I would not. Because:
..

I don't know much about them, I can say before buying I would want a video showing it working and also pool side shown.  Then I would want to read a few reviews to see what others think of it.   I have only purchased once during devlopment... terrahash long long ago and learned lesson and paypal saved my butt on that one.  So if were talking about trust to purchase... no not yet.

And it could be me but https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1317180.msg16681727#msg16681727 look a lot like some old S5 part's for chassis.  And I could be wrong it's been a while since I have had one.  But that makes me wonder even if work's if still in prototype stage vs production.

But again I have not followed them closely, I would love to see more miners out there.  But I'm a skeptic at this point with new gear I know little of.   And no offense was meant by that to OP.  It just is there is a lot more they could show assuming that unit works.

Hi All,

I cannot get silent army miner working on any of my rigs (win 7 and win 10).  I have updated to 16.40 drivers but silent army just crashes the drivers and then when drivers restart it runs at a fraction of the sol that the normal miner runs.  Does anyone have any pointers? - I am getting about 14 sol on a 7970.

any pointers much appreciated  Grin

Read this topic

It is 1/2 right now talking about payment's.  I don't see a whole lot of troubleshooting for win 10 so I can see his question as valid.  I posted a error and never saw an anwser.

So if you are able to link to Win 10 instructions/troubleshooting instead of saying to read this huge thread... it would be much more helpful.
