21  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Post your Temps! on: May 22, 2013, 05:12:59 AM
Living in Atlanta. In the daytime my xfire 7970s are averaging 78-82 C during the hottest part of the day. Been around 85F, 30C ambient temperature in the room where the machines are running. Temps outside also the same though very humid out there.

double post. Tongue ignore

Still down for me. BTW, here's an interesting attempt by someone else to sell their bitcoins that could possibly suggest manipulative practices by coinbase:

http://www.brandonorndorff.com/bitcoin/exchanges/coinbase-buys-and-sells-are-currently-paused/

Not hard evidence by any means but could be possible that they only will let you sell once bitcoins have gone down below a threshold that they set to give you less money and increase the gap between what they will let you buy them them for and what you *can* sell them for for increased profit margins.

Anyway I'm going to stop transferring bitcoins to them for a while until I regain confidence in their service or they post an update acknowledging their current paused state.

Edit:

Just got a sell in. Seems there are small windows for making sells possibly *sigh*

Trying to sell a small amount (<1 BTC) at coinbase and getting a message "Buys and sells are currently paused. Please try again in a few minutes." Is this happening to anyone else? Is this rather common and just the first time that I've encountered it? I know they meet their buy limits a lot though this is the first time that I've had a sell that I couldn't submit.

That might be a bit low. At your lower end, a 300 mhash/s graphics card costs just under $150 let alone an entire rig.
26  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: hashrate on 6870 unusually high on: April 29, 2013, 07:12:28 PM
The pool hashrate for me seems to be averaging around 390 mhash/s with a little variance. Overall I'd say it's about 10 mhash/s below what cgminer shows. Still above where I thought I'd be. Of course I'm happy and imagine that I can get better mhash/s with even a modest OC. Though I'm still a bit in the dark on how much graphics cards can differ in the same model. I wasn't expecting such a standard deviation from the average hash rates that I've seen online and on the hardware comparison page.

Have a few of these myself from my cards. Thinking one as a birthday gift for a friend whose birthday is coming up soon. Smiley
28  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining Without Electricity Cost !!! What Do You Suggest? on: April 28, 2013, 11:44:17 PM
Heed what others have said about bitcoins becoming less profitable on GPUs over time. Be sure to figure for the long run how much you will be able to mine.

For example I'm using a mining model that says each future month I will make roughly 33% less bitcoins than the previous month. So if I can make X amount of bitcoins this month, then I expect to have minted X*(1-0.67^n)/(1-.67) coins over n months. Then I figure where the rate of generating bitcoins equals the cost of electricity to get a *rough* idea of how long my mining hardware will go. Though since you're not paying for electricity you can just use the equation to figure out how many coins you can make in n months or figure out how many months it will take to make Y coins.

Hi. My name is rabbitweasel and I'm a bitcoin mining addict. *hi everyone*. Pulling about 2Ghash/s currently and complaining about my powerbill going up even if I'm making a net profit. Smiley
30  Other / Beginners & Help / hashrate on 6870 unusually high on: April 28, 2013, 11:17:13 PM
Picked up a 6870 recently for mining for a secondary rig. Card I got is right here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202032&IsVirtualParent=1

The unusual thing that I noticed is that I seem to be getting around 100 mhash/s more than I should. Running stock core @ 900mhz and getting 400 mhash/s +- 10 mhash/s over 24 hours instead of about ~300 mhash/s that seems to be the normal based on the bitcoin hardware comparison and other posts that I've found.

It's definitely a good surprise though I'm still wondering what the reason is. Is there anything different about this card to differentiate it against a normal 6870 as it doesn't seem to be different. Using GPU-Z and I'm sure that it's not auto-OC'ing under a load. Seems like performance that I would be getting from a 5870. If 6870s have changed (doubt for an old generation) and I can get performance like this I would consider getting another one for another rig that's not running. What are your opinions on this?
